W

ell that was an interesting last month, hosepipe ban then days of rain, here’s hoping we get some great weather for the holidays now the kids are off school. Lots going on in your area this month, lots of events around the area check out our what's on page and special discounts at Farmer Parrs and Thingajigz for a treat for the kids. Bispham is a great little part of coast with much to see and do, so get out there in the community this August and make the most of local offers and events. As a kid I wasted away many a day along the Bispham cliffs, playing on the concrete whale and crazy golf, not to mention going up and down the cliff lift and playing in the boating pool (go karting anyway) We are looking for more local features and positive stories, if you have something to share, email us at LINK with text and images and will see what we can do. Congratulations LINK-Spotter Bert Aldred of Poulton who won our where am I competition £50 on its way to you. NEWS: LINK-Magazine has now expanded into Over Wyre with our extended Poulton Le Fylde edition, added to increased number of magazines in each area, this now takes us up to 47,500 magazines a month in Wyre and beyond. Just like to say thanks for all that have supported us so far, to help make us the largest monthly advertising media in the area, we have a great team here at LINK of 32 people from distribution, artwork, sales and accounts that makes it work THANK YOU!

bare facts for rooms

Natural materials are all the rage with wood, stone and organic fabrics featuring in homes that embrace eco principles. Check out the ingredients for naturally stylish homes.

T

his refreshing home trend is all about simple and unadorned settings. By contrast, it celebrates the beauty and neutral tones of materials such as unvarnished wood, stone and hand-cast ceramics, and complements them with 'touch me' texture fabrics such as bleached linens, pure cottons and slubby wools. The key to pulling off the uncluttered and under-stated neutrals and naturals fusion is to create a palette mimicking 'cosmetic' shades. Think in terms of 'highlighting' rooms with foundation and blusher shades muddy pinks, browns and taupes for furniture and floors, and a 'base' of ivory or pearly cream on walls.

Use personal touches such as rich, wool throws and cushions trimmed with sequins or lace. Alternatively, make a sharp contrast with splashes of colour in accessories like vases.

Meridian Range from Kitchens Direct

Back to basics Wood and stone are enduring choices for interiors – particularly kitchens and bathrooms - as they're hard-wearing, especially with the advancement of sophisticated, protective finishes which don't mask their good looks. "Designers are marrying nature with inspirational sculptural design in stone," says Cheryl Gurner at Bathrooms International.

So stripping-off this summer couldn't be easier - just dress rooms in flattering, spaceenhancing shades teamed with nature's best materials and wait for the compliments!

"Sinks and baths are being crafted from a single boulder of stone, leaving the exterior sides in a natural raw state, while the interior surfaces are polished and glossy. We're also seeing bamboo - one of the planets most sustainable materials featuring in furniture." Advertise Call Martin 01253 777545

Wooden-it-be-lovely

"Awareness of how and where things are made is integral to this trend. Handmade things have an authenticity which is ultra fashionable currently," says Anita Kohn at interiors specialists, Living In Space.

Wooden furniture adds real impact and character in a neutral room. Showcase the material a piece is made from, and appreciate its connection to nature demonstrated by raw, unfinished surfaces and the blemishes that can only enhance its character.

"There's a growing demand for pieces that aren't bland and boast unique knots and grain. People want pieces that will grow old disgracefully because wear and tear - like laughter lines - adds to both patina and visual charm."

"Wool, hemp, jute, linen and even horsehair are some of the natural materials that featured in the Summer collections of the major fabric houses." Natural beauties: A new modular seating system called The Terrace Loft is made from carved, reclaimed teak and upholstered with generous, squashy cushions. Prices start from £4,795 from Raft, a company offering ecofriendly traditionally crafted furniture.

ooking to impress can be a daunting experience, and with certain celebrity chefs urging us to try all sorts of farfetched and elaborate creations, it can seem downright hopeless.

This Morning's Phil Vickery explains why good food needn't be difficult to make, and how you can make puddings by using basic offthe-shelf products. The husband of TV presenter Fern Britton, Vickery is one of an elite circle of chefs to have bagged a Michelin star four years in a row, so it seemed only right to test his theory. These recipes might not be the

healthiest, but then they are desserts - and they're inexpensive to make. “As long as people are getting value for money, they're happy."

Here are some of Phil's recipes to try out:

cheat's chocolate

banoffee pie Serves 12 Preparation time: 1 hr

Add the melted butter to the crushed biscuits and blend well. Press the mixture into the base and part way up the sides of an 18cm loose-bottomed cake tin, then chill well. Make the filling: Melt the chocolate gently in the microwave then mix in the Carnation Caramel. Beat until smooth. Spread the filling over the biscuit base and chill for about 1 hour, until firm.

For the base: 85g butter, melted 250g dark chocolate digestive biscuits, finely crushed

For the filling: 200g dark chocolate, melted 397g can Carnation Caramel

For the topping: 4 bananas 300ml double cream, lightly whipped Cocoa powder to dust

To serve, slice the bananas, fold half of them into the whipped cream and spoon over the base. Decorate with the remaining bananas and dust liberally with cocoa powder.

Raspberry & white chocolate chunk cookies (Makes 20-30 cookies) 225g unsalted butter, softened 225g caster sugar 170g tube Carnation Condensed Milk 350g self-raising flour 150g white chocolate, chopped 175g punnet raspberries Preheat the oven to 180 degree Celsius/Gas Mark 4. In a large bowl, cream the butter and sugar, until pale and then stir in the condensed milk. Sift in the flour and then work into a soft dough with your hands. Mix in the chocolate. Take a small handful of dough and flatten with your fingers. Place 2-3 raspberries into the centre of the cookie and fold over the sides of the dough to encase the raspberries. Repeat with the remaining dough.

Place onto parchment lined baking trays, spacing well apart and bake for about 15-18 minutes or until golden brown at the edges, but still a little soft. Leave to cool slightly and set before transferring to a cooling rack. The dough without the raspberries will keep in the fridge for 2-3 days or for about 1 month in the freezer - freeze in small slightly flattened chunks and bake as required.

Bispham Junior Football Federation agriffit@csc.com). Club House & Facilities News.....Work on the concreting of the car park, under-taken by our local contractor CALMAC, has been completed. Our new mini soccer pitches, directly behind our Club House, are taking shape, with the covering of grass benefitting from the recent rain. Unfortunately, the fencing we had hired to protect the area of land has been stolen (overnight the day before Bispham Gala) so this means we are now liable to the hire company for replacement of 50 Herras Fence Panels, potentially costing the Club £2,750. Stealing from Kids is the lowest of the low.......... Fund-Raising and Social Events.....The Fund-Raising and Social Team have as always been busy, with the World Cup Raffle drawn on World Cup Final night the two star prizes were claimed by two lucky winners, with the funds raised put towards the fundraising team target, to pay for the concreting of the car park. We also took part in the Bispham Gala procession on Saturday 17th July, with over 150 youngsters taking part decked out in full BJFF regalia.............. a fantastic sight, and showing our full support for the community. We have just held our end of term, schools out, Hawaiian Luau Party, at The Red Lion. With 230 BJFF revellers descending on the Red Lion in Hawaiian shirts and Radio Wave presenter Hayley Kay in charge of the fun and games, everyone had a fantastic night, celebrating the start of the summer holidays and raising some money at the same time. Finally, we are on the lookout for donations of crockery for our "Smash the Crockery" stall at our Tournament at the end of August - if anyone can donate any surplus crockery please contact Andy Griffiths ASAP on 07884 476954 (or e-mail agriffit@csc.com).
