Used Car Feature Proper practical 4x4s The recent “worst winter in 30 years” has seen cars with off road ability come back in favour again. If you want to stay under the radar of the eco activists and don’t want to take out a second mortgage to pay the running costs, any of these four would suit your needs admirably. Landrover Defender Td5 (1998 to present) Based on a car first produced in 1948 the Defender is classless and timelessly cool. That tall boxy body provides plenty of room and it’s good enough in the mud to meet the needs of most of us. It is comfortable, well equipped and staggeringly well screwed together. That flat four turbo is a detuned version of the one that hurls the Impreza WRX around rally courses so it’s no slouch either and it’s so understated that even the most eagle-eyed Greenpeace member won’t give you a Audi Allroad Quattro 2.5 TDI (1999 to 2005) second glance. Community First Responders are an intrinsic part of the North West Ambulance Service. Responders do not replace dispatching an ambulance but are uniquely placed within their local area to responder rapidly and attend to provide vital life-saving treatment. How it works Responders work as part of a local team. They are on call and are dispatched when an emergency life threatening call is received by the ambulance service. Since they are based within the communities they cover, they are often able to get to a scene first and provide critical care prior to the arrival of the ambulance. Responders are trained to deal with life threatening conditions and carry equipment such as oxygen and an automatic defibrillator designed to provide electric shocks to restart the heart. So what is it like being a community first responder? Being a community first responder has allowed me to feel like I am giving something to the community, helping people who really need some support. Some jobs are just providing some oxygen to someone who is having trouble breathing to helping someone stay safe after a fit. Some jobs are literally trying to save a person’s life. A typical duty would consist of checking the kit is all in working order, notifying control of your availability and waiting. Some days you can be sat there and get no calls, others you can get several and each job is different. Do you have to stop what you are doing? The short answer is no, ideally first responders would be available 24 hours a day but with most of us having busy lives we do know that for many people things crop up and you might have to come of duty all we ask is that you let someone know as somebody else in the group may be able to respond. But I don’t I need to know first aid? Community first responders are trained and equipped, by North West ambulance service and have to pass regular assessments. How much training is involved? The initial training is approximately 28 hours, followed by regular group meetings within your local area, which provide support and assistance to each other. http://www.nwas-responders.info

Heart charity, Heart Research UK, is looking for walkers in the Lancashire to join the fight against heart disease by putting on their walking boots and tackling the challenges of the Lyke Wake Walk or the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge in 2010. The walks will both be held in June of this year anyone can take part with friends, family or colleagues; everyone is welcome. On Saturday 5 June walkers can take up the challenge of the Lyke Wake Walk. It’s a demanding 40 mile crossing of the North Yorkshire Moors from Ravenscar to Osmotherley, with participants challenged to complete the walk in less than 24 hours. It is a hard walk, not for the faint hearted; it involves climbing 5000ft and is undulating with a number of short steep climbs and two ravines, coupled with peat bog crossings.
“If you’re looking for a walk that’s a little less extreme then perhaps you would enjoy the Yorkshire Three Peaks Challenge?
”
The event takes place on Saturday 19 June and covers three of the highest peaks in the Yorkshire Dales – Pen-y-Ghent, Whernside and Ingleborough. The 25 mile challenge provides spectacular scenery, gets your heart pumping and helps to raise money for pioneering research into the prevention, treatment and cure of heart disease. The charity needs as many dedicated, physically fit people as possible to do one, two, or even three peaks to help it continue the fight against heart disease.
If you’re interested or for more information on either of these events please contact Heart research UK on 0113 2347 474, email fundraising@heartresearch.org.uk or visit our website www.heartresearch.org.uk

BE UPRIGHT, CONNECTED and TRULY HEALTHY GET RID OF BACK PAIN, STIFF NECK, HEADACHES, TRAPPED NERVES, DISPLACED PELVIS, KNEE PAIN, ETC… Did you know that the Atlas bone (First cervical vertebra at the top of the spine) is misaligned (or luxated) in most humans? We define the Atlas as misaligned when the convex bony formations (occipital condyles) on the sides of the hole in the base of the skull (foramen magnum) do not properly fit into the convex receptacles on the top of the Atlas (superior articular facets). Furthermore, one side of the Atlas (transverse process) is inappropriately locked in front of another bony formation of the skull (styloid process of the temporal bone). This condition leads to a variety of physical and psychological ailments and illnesses. Fortunately, it is now possible to relocate the Atlas to its correct position using the AtlasPROfilax method. This technique was discovered and developed in Switzerland between 1993 and 1996 by RenéClaudius Schümperli (who was himself painfully affected by a misaligned Atlas).
spinal cord, cranial nerves and other nerve tracts under constant pressure. The reduction of the opening of spinal canal (foramen magnum) affects the proper communication between brain and organs. It may also result in neurological disorders due to the pressure on the lower part of the brain stem which deals with vital functions. Also, due to the connection of our vertebrae to the energetic pathways of our internal organs and emotional patterns, such a twist of the spine is able to unbalance the psyche. How is this different from chiropractic work? The Atlas correction is a unique, effective, nonmedicinal method and requires no cracking neck or manipulations. It is not an adjustment but a powerful relocation of the Atlas. We massage the tight muscles around the base of the skull where the Atlas is trapped and release it. The atlas moves into full location in one session. We do not require more treatment, only a follow up to make sure it is stabilized and to offer additional support for the selfhealing process. How do we relocate the Atlas?
The AtlasPROfilax method is unique worldwide and corrects a misaligned Atlas with only one application, accurately, safely and permanently. The AtlasPROfilax application consists of a safe, The Atlas carries not only the skull, but also facilitates SUSPENSION, BALANCE, and CONTROL strategic, non-chiropractic massage to the short muscles of the neck, to loosen the tension and allow of the human spine and skeletal system. Is this treatment for children and elderly?
“I‘ve had no back pain or migraine, this is phenomenal” – C.H, 41yrs old
Most of the time, we take care of our health only when pains and problems are already at a very advanced stage and no longer bearable. The repositioning process of the Atlas is a simple and safe procedure providing life lasting advantages. Children can especially benefit from this treatment as a preventative measure, allowing them to grow up healthily and develop their potential to the fullest. The treatment of children is particularly recommended because of the ease of execution, resulting from the near-absence of muscular contractions and the greater capacity for adaptation. Newborn from 4 months old, children, teenagers, adults and older people, have been successfully corrected applying the AtlasPROfilax technique.
“Vertigo has disappearedT my hearing has drastically improvedT I can now move my head normallyT I used to zigzag and struggled walking straight. I now have a perfect balance and I can walk straight” – P.C, France
HOW DID THE ATLAS GET MISALIGNED IN THE FIRST PLACE? Birth could be very traumatic for babies (forceps, caesarean, prolonged labour, suction), sometimes also the position of the foetus is not quite right in the mother’s womb. Interestingly, a lady who has her Atlas corrected before conceiving a baby, passes on that full alignment of the Atlas bone to the child. However, we observed that even babies born by caesarean could have their Atlas out of place. There are other contributing factors like the tremendous stress children undergo (falls, knocksT) in their early age, when they learn how to walk or ride a bicycle. Later on, additional traumas could aggravate the situations in the event of car crashes, sport or work injuries, bad sleeping conditions, whiplash, etcT Unproven theories suggest that the earth is 23.3° tilted and so is the Atlas either that or our DNA has possibly been modified.
“I am spiritually open as a person and I have felt a change in my energy immediately after the Atlas was correctedT my energy field feels open to the sourceT” – M. C, Birmingham “After his adjustment he looked alive, now walking taller, upright and straight”- C.H, East Grinstead “I have had whiplash, lot of pain in my neck (loud “cracking” noise) plus that I always had problem/pain in my left wrist and left elbowT Today, I have no pain in the neck, no pain in my wrist and in my elbow anymoreT - M.H, Danemark “Immediately my intestines started working better and are now functioning very wellT I generally feel balanced, physically, emotionally and spirituallyT In the past I have done a lot of self improvement and process work and it is just so much easier nowT J.D, Exeter “I feel very blessed to have received the Atlas adjustment, my body has been much stronger since thenT.. and feel much more optimisticT” - D. R. W, London “The treatment was quick and almost immediately my sciatica, constant headaches, lower back pain faded away. I was able to bend down and almost touch my toes, which I hadn’t be able to do since I was sixteenT” – Mark, Scotland
For more information you could search on the internet for the article “Reversing the Curse” by Jean“T I have found that my eyesight has improved as Claude Koven, about a genetic engineering that well” – L.P, 45yrs old misaligned the Atlas, limiting our potential. TESTIMONIALS: « Nothing I have experienced nor performed has given the benefits and results that this onetime treatment has. The experience to date with the AtlasPROfilax treatment is that my atlas has maintained proper alignment and function. I have felt GREAT ! The chronic pain at the base of my skull is gone. I am more balanced and empowered in my life”- Dr. Robert A. Pope, Chiropractic Physician
“T I feel an overwhelming calming peace within me, my mind and my spiritT it is amazing, overall my memory seems more wide-awake, my nervous system has remarkably improvedT I move steadily on my feet not wobbling as usual or supporting myself on shop windows or doorsT” - S.B, 85 yrs old YRS old
In no more than 25 minutes, nearly all my tensions in my back went. The feeling of relaxation was intense. Now I can watch TV in my bed without any pain in my neck” – R.B, West Sussex

THE TRUTH ABOUT SUCCESSFUL WEIGHT LOSS by health and fitness expert Pam Tribick. Why is it so complicated to lose weight: counting points, combining food colours, the list of complex diets is endless. It’s not necessarily easy but there really is no secret to successful weight loss. No magic cure, no amazing diet. The choices which will make you look and feel the way you want to are there for the taking but the bottom line is: to lose weight you need to burn more calories than you eat. To reduce calorific intake, consider: Eating smaller portions. Making compromises, e.g. cheese or butter on a jacket potato, not both. Get thin crust pizza and pile on the veggies - forget fat laden pepperoni or sausage. At least you’ve got a pizza! Dessert is a habit. Habits can be broken. We don’t eat desserts because we are hungry. Alcohol consumption increases high calorie food cravings. If certain foods are irresistible, consider giving them up completely. Someone I know can’t eat butter in moderation so she doesn’t buy it.
G Pitman & Son
Think about what you eat. Do you really need it? Will it help you achieve the shape you want or will it take you further from your goal? And of course, there’s exercise; when we were younger we may have been able to eat what we wanted and not gain weight but as we get older we can’t get away with this as we tend not to move as much. The choices to lose weight are within your control: if you want to eat it you have to move more, if you don’t want to move more then don’t eat it. Post Christmas Financial Blues? It’s around this time that the credit card statements land on our doorsteps and we realise how much we actually spent over Christmas and the New Year. For a lot of us, the reality is that we can no longer afford to pay the credit card bills and loans in full as and when they fall due. So, what to do? Well, there are a number of measures you can take to avoid your credit history being ruined or impaired. Do a Budget – make a full list of your income and expenditure and identify where all your money goes. Be honest with yourself. Cut out some or all of the unessential expenditure. You may have some tough choices to make. Shop Around – you might be able to get cheaper rates on your credit cards, loans, insurances and mortgages, or cheaper gas and electric, (or consider a meter for utilities such as water).
Get Advice - If you’ve cut expenditure to the minimum and still have more expenditure than income, or if you’re considering cancelling important financial planning payments such as life insurance, income protection or pension contributions, then you should seek independent debt advice immediately. You may have heard about various debt solutions such as Debt Management Plans, Individual Voluntary Arrangements (IVA’s), Debt Relief Orders and Bankruptcy, There are also similar solutions for limited companies that are experiencing financial problems. Information on all these solutions is available on our website www.debt-advice-blackpool.co.uk Tim Johnson is a Managing Partner of Debt Advice Blackpool, a free Debt Advice Service for Blackpool and the Fylde. Football For ALL Initiative........ Our Football For ALL sessions continue EVERY Sunday morning from 10:30am - Midday, at the BJFF Club House. Our sessions are aimed at new players (Boys and Girls) between the ages of 4 and 10, who want to take their first steps into football in a fun and friendly environment, as well as for squad players who need some extra training. During the winter months all sessions are INSIDE at our Club House (trainers and a drink required), although we are hoping to move outside during March. Our Club House is on the corner of Kelvin Road and Carr Road. All newcomers will be given a warm welcome. If you are interested in coming along, with your son or daughter, you can simply turn up at the Club House on Sunday morning, or pre-book with our Football For ALL Lead Coordinator, Andi Whitworth (FA Level 2 coach) on 07791 137682 (or e-mail -andiwhitworth@hotmail.co.uk). The first session is FREE, and then ÂŁ3 thereafter. New Players Required - GIRLS Teams..... At BJFF we currently have two dedicated GIRLS only teams, training and playing matches in the North Valley Youth League. We currently have teams representing BJFF at Under 12's (School Year 7) and Under 14's (School Year 8). We are on the lookout for players at both age groups, and we are also currently recruiting players to start a NEW GIRLS TEAM at the Under 11's age group (current School Year 6). If you are interested in joining this new team, training will initially be with the Under 12's Girls, separating as the Squad becomes big enough to sustain itself. Please contact Simon Walford (Mobile - (07920) 865497, or E-Mail siwalford1965@googlemail.com) for more details. Club House & Facilities News..... The new perimeter security fencing has now been completed, with access gates now fitted to the front and rear of our Club House. We also have a new corrugated roof, with thanks to Dale Ritchie and DMR Roofing Contractors. We have also been successful in a grant application to convert the barren land behind our Club House into two mini soccer pitches, providing much needed 7-A-Side and training facilities for our younger children. A huge thank-you to our local councillors for their support with this application. It is hoped that the contractor can be engaged to commence works by the end of March. This will provide a huge boost in time for the start of the 2010/2011 playing season in September.
Plea for Materials / Labour..... If any businesses can provide materials, for any of the jobs mentioned above, or for pitch renovations, car park flattening, paint, timber etc etc, please get in touch with our Chairman, Andy Griffiths, on 07884 476954 (e-mail agriffit@csc.com). Similarly, if any businesses, or local tradesmen, have some spare time, and would like to do something worthwhile for the children of Bispham, our local community, by volunteering their expertise, if you could contact Andy with how you can help, it would be very much appreciated. Fund-Raising and Social Events..... The Fund-Raising and Social Team held their first meeting of the New Year, and have agreed a programme of events to be held during the year, starting with a Race Night on Friday 23rd or Saturday 24th April (date to be confirmed) and then a Family Fun Day / BBQ / Sporting Challenge for ALL members and families on Saturday 22nd May at Bispham Gala Field. We also have our Annual GIRLS Tournament on Saturday 5th June, and our Annual 3-Day Football Festival from Saturday 28th August - Monday 30th August. On The Playing Field..... All squads are now back in training, with a full games programme scheduled for March. If you are interested in joining BJFF, we have opportunities available from our Development Squad (Under 4's / 5's) through to our Under 14's, including our developing Girls section. Summary.....
