• Staining Women’s Institute Our members meet on the 3rd Wednesday of the month, 7.30 pm at St. Luke’s Church which is on the main road through the village. There is a car park next to the Church and entry is via the school gates. The building was originally used as a School during the week, Church on Sunday and a Meeting Hall in the evenings. Although the Organisation is non-political and non-sectarian, Staining ladies find it a convenient meeting place. If, however, they require a larger hall with a stage then the ladies book Staining Village Hall for that one meeting. For years, WIs have been put into groups which meet annually with each area taking turns to be responsible for hosting a large meeting with a speaker, refreshments and entertainment. This is when members can show off their “talent” then sit back for a few years just watching until their turn comes around again! This will be taking place at Staining Village Hall, 7.30pm on Thursday, 29th March. Tickets are £5 and spare ones might be available for non-members. Please ask a member. BJFF – Club House / Sports Hall Development – New 3G Surface… BJFF are delighted to announce that our indoor sports hall has been fully re-fitted with a state of the art 3G Astro-Turf surface, a far safer and football friendly surface for all of our boys and girls to experience. The 3G surface is a significant investment in our children, and will be opened officially on Saturday 24th March. A huge thank-you to local firm JP CONTRACTS who undertook the work. BJFF - Football for ALL SKILLS Academy Initiative – Re-Branding... Our Football for ALL initiative has now been re-branded “Football for ALL Skills Academy” and welcomes children who are new to football, or who would just like some extra training, with the emphasis on a fun and friendly environment. Headed up by Level 2 coaches, Joe Rooney and Adam Monk, we have two age-group sessions on a Sunday morning. We welcome Boys and Girls aged between 4 and 8, each and every Sunday, from 10:00am - 11:15am, and then from 11:15am until 12:30pm we welcome Boys and Girls aged between 9 and 13. Trainers, Football Boots, Shin Pads and a Drink recommended. The BJFF Club House is on the corner of Kelvin Road and Carr Road. Training will be mainly indoors during the winter months, but when the weather permits we will be training outside. Newcomers will be given a warm welcome and ALL SQUAD children are encouraged to attend. Each regular participant will be presented with their very own Skills Academy tangerine training kit. Shaw, have notched up back-to-back wins, 2-1 at Home to BCSC Blues, in which Rebecca picked up her first PoM award, and 6-1 away to Great Harwood, with PoM Kathryn Lomas scoring 4 goals, showing that the hard work our girls have been putting in with their new coaching team has reaped rewards. In the Lancashire Evening Post Youth League, our Premier Division title challenging Youth team have picked up where they left off, and have 6 points out of 6 with two narrow 2-1 victories keeping up their excellent run, with some title deciders to come in the closing weeks of the season. Onto Blackpool and District Youth League action, and the team of the month with 2 wins out of 2, scoring 19 goals for and conceding 6, was our Under 13’s, who followed up a 12-3 win at home to Warton Typhoons (Callum O’Neil scoring 5, and Adam Murphy 4) with a 7-3 away win against FC Rangers Stripes, with hattricks from Harvey Poland and Ryan Walsh. In Hogan Cup Quarter-Final action, MoM Tyler Rainey scored 4 goals in our Under 11’s Blades 7-0 romp at home to FC Rangers; a Semi-Final berth secured with the prize of walking out at Bloomfield Road in the Hogan Cup Final now up for grabs. In league action, a good 1-1 draw against Kirkham Juniors showed a marked improvement on the result between the same two teams earlier in the season. Also through to the Hogan Cup Semi Finals are our Under 16’s, who won a thrilling Quarter Final 4-3 away to AFC Blackpool. Congratulations and Good Luck to both teams for their Semi Finals at the end of March. Our other Hogan Cup Quarter Finalists, our Under 15’s Whites, were knocked out in a close fought game away to Lancashire County Cup Runners-Up, South Shore, eventually succumbing to a 1-3 defeat. Our Under 16’s suffered from a Cup hangover, losing their two league games in the month, both by narrow margins (2-3 away to Fleetwood Town, and 1-3 at home to local rivals Blackpool Rangers). Our Under 14’s maintained their title challenging, topping the table with 6 points out of 6 during the month, with 9 goals scored and 0 conceded, thanks in the main to the goalkeeping exploits of Matty Greenhalgh. Our Under 12’s Blades lost a hard fought league game against title challengers YMCA (0-2), but progressed in the Plate competition, beating Staining 5-2, with Charlie Wood putting his injury nightmares behind him with a hat-trick. Our Under 12’s Predators provided some thrilling entertainment, and edge of the seat stuff, being involved in 4 games which were decided by the odd goal, losing out 1-2 twice and 0-1, but also securing a 2-1 victory, playing some fantastic football in the process.
