James Jackson’s
CENTRAL GARAGE LTD James started his career in the RAF, where he trained as a motor mechanic. On leaving the RAF, he bought his first garage on Station Road in Poulton in 1993. He steadily built up his business and then expanded into larger premises, when he moved to Fleetwood in 2002 by buying Central Garage on Albany Road. He has built a team of thirteen dedicated people offering a high standard of customer care from the moment you arrive through to delivery of your vehicle. They offer a wide range of services including MOT testing (class 4, 7 and motorbikes), fixed-price servicing, diagnostics, computerised wheel alignment & tyres, air-conditioning checks, batteries, etc. They also offer free courtesy cars, and even have a courtesy van for commercial customers! James has a simple philosophy, “We take good care of each and every customer that comes our way”. This ideal runs right through the company where there is a strong emphasis on customer care. Lesley and Debbie are on hand to take your call with access to highly trained mechanics, the team can assist and advise you every step of the way. Postcard from Cleveleys We’ve had some bad weather on our coast and it was even too windy for the first day of the BKSA national kite surfing competition which returned to Princes Way for the second time this October. The team managed to compete on the second and third day drawing sportspeople to our shore from all over the UK, and enjoyed Beat Night at SubZero instead of their usual barbecue!
As the summer season comes to a close, Cleveleys is getting ready for winter with the Light up a Life Christmas festival on 24th November. Join our primary schools along with Tom Bright and the Jack and the Beanstalk pantomime characters from Thornton Little Theatre, plus the skating stars of ‘SubZero The Ice Show’. Meet at 3.45pm behind SubZero for a glo-stick parade, choirs and singing and the lighting of the Christmas tree. A small group of people are trying to make it easier for community groups and performers to appear in Cleveleys to create an ongoing street entertainment destination. The Seagulls were formed in 1951 and played in the Midland Intermediate League from 1951 to 1955. In the 1955-56 seasons they lost just one match all year. In the 1960’s with no official leagues in the UK ‘non-league’ ice hockey continued with mini-tournaments competed for at the ice rinks of Blackpool. In 1982 they joined the newly formed British Hockey League (BHL) which has replaced the three top flight regional leagues in the United Kingdom, to form one top flight league. In 1982-83 they finished second.
Now twenty years after the disband, Simon Pearce (Head Coach) alongside old Seagull Gary Shearman, the Seagulls have been reborn with a new team in the brand new Sub Zero Arena in Cleveleys.
The Seagulls then joined the newly created second tier of the BHL, The British Hockey League Division One. In their first season in the First Division, 1983-84 they finished in sixth place out of eleven teams. The following season was more successful as the Seagulls finished in third place.

The 1986-87 seasons saw the Seagulls finish in the lower half of the Division One table, the 11th out of sixteen teams.

‘Diary of a local Councillor’ Paul Galley is a Councillor for Anchorsholme in Blackpool and each month he writes a weekly diary of what he has been up to. Friday: One of the nicest parts of being a Councillor is I get to meet lots of different and interesting people. Today I was invited to go to Anchorsholme Primary School to give a talk to a group of children aged between eight and eleven years old about debating and our political system. I described how the Council operates and what a Councillor does. It was a pleasure to be asked and meet such well behaved children and it was inspiring to see how interested the children were in politics and what good speakers they are. Following the visit I’m going to organise a trip to the Town Hall for the children and organise a debate for them there so they can gain some experience of debating in the Council Chamber as I’m sure we will have some Councillor’s coming from this group of young people in the future. Saturday: Today I had what I call a “dot the i’s and cross the t’s day”, a day where I catch up with all my emails and plan for the week ahead, one of those days which is really productive because you have time to do lots of smaller jobs which if ignored soon become big jobs. Sunday: I love Sunday mornings as it’s the day that my girlfriend and I go to church. We attend Anchorsholme Methodists Church which is a really friendly church and if anyone likes a good sing and a cup of tea with friendly people I would recommend the 10.30am service on Sunday. Anchorsholme is blessed with four really good churches. As everyone knows we have so few public buildings in the Anchorsholme, the four churches play a key role in bringing people together. In the afternoon I took some telephone calls from residents who are concerned about the number of camper vans that are parking on the prom, making it hard for local people to park their cars there. Councillor Tony Williams and myself have lobbied the council for a long time about getting some parking signs on the prom in the area in front of people’s houses, so hopefully by the time you read this, those signs will be installed. Our plan should allow the best of both worlds, camper vans to park in front of Anchorsholme Park and cars to park in the area where the houses are, that way everyone wins. Monday: I am involved with the local A.C.T (Achieving Communities Together) group so this morning I attended a meeting to discuss some issues regarding our Open Day in October. ACT is really close to my heart as I want to unite all the community groups and encourage more people to join them and give their time to help their neighbours. Anchorsholme has a really good community spirit and there is nothing more rewarding than helping

other people. Following that meeting I went to see a local resident who is involved in the Judicial Review that is being held over the closure of the Lauderdale Avenue tram crossing. We are waiting to see if we will gain legal aid or if we will push the case through ourselves with our own legal advisor giving his time for free. Very much a case of watch this space, but we won’t give up without a fight. Tuesday: Today was a quiet day, so I spent the day working at my recruitment agency. In the afternoon I received some good news about the road surface on Redeswood Avenue in that it is to be fully repaired and resurfaced. Councillor Tony Williams and myself have been lobbying to get this road properly repaired for along time, so I’m over the moon about this. I’ve set myself some ambitious targets over the next four years from planting flowers, trees, improving the parks, setting up community groups, installing street lights on the alley way between Idlewood Place and Sevenoaks Drive and getting Redeswood fully repaired is one of them, so I’m very pleased. In the evening I held the monthly Friends of Eastpines Park meeting which is a great chance to discuss the park and meet up with some fantastic people. We have planned our Christmas Fair for Saturday December 3rd from 12pm - 4pm. If anyone wants to donate anything for the raffle prizes please do contact me. Wednesday: In the morning I went to St Teresa’s to help out with our bingo morning. I love calling the bingo and our little group is growing all the time, again anyone is welcome (it’s between 10am and 12pm at St Teresa’s Church Hall). In the afternoon I attended a meeting with the “Call In” committee at the Town Hall about the Lauderdale Crossing. The Call In Committee is Blackpool Council’s final place of appeal against any decision made by the Council Executive. I spoke first on why the crossing shouldn’t be closed. Unfortunately the Call In Committee voted to uphold the decision to close the crossing, which leaves us with one final card left to play and that is to seek a judicial review, which I will keep everyone posted about. In the evening I attended the local P.A.C.T meeting which is a great chance to talk to local residents and local police officers about crimes in our neighbourhood and what we are doing to solve them. If ever you have any issues with crimes or anti social behaviour issues let me know as we have a really good Community Police Officer in PC David Clarke, he really is a good man, a very good police officer and someone who really cares. Thursday: Councillor Tony Williams and I are in the process of producing our first newsletter since the election. We aim to produce around four newsletters a year. It’s important to keep local residents up to date with what we are achieving and what we aiming to do in the future, so am pleased to be finally rolling the newsletter out. In the evening I held our surgery at All Saints Church. If anyone is interested in attending we hold our surgery on the first Thursday of the month between 6pm and 7pm.Whilst I encourage everyone to call or email me or stop me in the street if you see me, I thought a monthly surgery would be good as it gives another means for people to contact me if they have any concerns about anything.
