Chinese Antiques Market Booming!!! £2000 for Blue and White Chinese Jar £1300 for Chinese Sceptre

The rapid growth of the Chinese economy over the last few years has now resulted in a massive demand for good quality Chinese antiques, with many of the better off Chinese attempting to buy back some of their” heritage”, in other words, some of the high quality items historically exported/ plundered over the last four hundred years. It is this rapidly increasing demand that has caused a continual upsurge in prices at antique auctions all over the UK, with some of the buyers being Chinese based in China and others all over the world. It is also the development of the internet, which has resulted in many auctioneers, becoming truly international, including Gerrards, where their Chinese sales have recently grown in value and volume, for example, the Chinese Blue and White Jar and Chinese Ruyi Sceptre, featured in the two photographs, would have fetched a few hundred pounds a year ago. So, if you have any pieces of Chinese porcelain or other interesting Chinese items (and most of us have something like this in a cupboard or in the attic), now is the time to let the experts at Gerrards have a look at it, to see if you can take advantage of the current trend, by placing it in auction, with a protective reserve price.

Due to the weather most YMCA teams had very little action during December. Waterlogged pitches decimated fixture lists throughout the Fylde Coast and many local teams didn’t play a single game on the three weekends prior to the 2-week Christmas break. The club’s Under 9 and 10 seven-a-side teams did manage to see some action though and although points were dropped by the Under 10s they still reached the end of the calendar year as league leaders but the 9s lost top-spot after also dropping points although they remained well in contention. In the Sunday afternoon 11-a-side league all five YMCA teams, the Under 11s, 12s, 13s, 14s and 15s ended the year in good positions in their respective league tables and all entered the New Year well in the hunt for league honours. The Under 15s also clinched a place in the County Cup semi finals and will play local rivals South Shore Youth

hoping to claim a place in the final for the 3rd successive time. The club entered all three competitions in the Annual indoor 5-a-side tournament organised by the Fylde Coast YMCA Sports Development Team at Lytham YMCA during Christmas and New Year for Under 7s, 8s and 9s. The Under 7s and 8s were non-competitive events and in the main competition, the Under 9s, YMCA FC took the winners and runners up medals after both teams entered reached the final without losing a game in the group stages.

Rotarian Honour Mayor’s International Work Good works across the globe have resulted in a top Rotary honour for Councillor Howard Henshaw. The Fylde mayor met 60 Lytham Rotarians last week when he was guest speaker at the Rotary Clubs first luncheon on the year at the Clifton Hotel.

(Mayor Rotary) International thanks for Fylde’s first citizen: from left, mayoress Karen Henshaw, Howard Henshaw, Chan Jukhoop, Lytham Rotary president, Mrs Sue Jukhoop.

Howard gave a talk on his career in international banking which started as a junior clerk at Barclays Bank in Preston before retiring as an executive director of Standard Chartered Bank in Tanzania. But as he sat down Lytham Rotary president Chan Jukhoop presented him with Rotary’s Paul Harris Fellowship Award for furthering friendly relations across the world. Councillor Henshaw said: “It is the highest award that Rotary International can bestow on any individual, so I was deeply honoured. “The award was for sending and distributing educational books to schools and libraries overseas. It was work I was only able to do due to my role as a banker in a number of countries.

Many Rotarians do fantastic work locally and it was my good fortune that I was able to help people on a wider stage. “Rotary is one of the largest, if not the largest, charitable organisations in the world and members are obligated to help others where possible. Tens of thousands do similar good work – so I was flattered that I was singled out to receive the award.” From starting work in Preston in 1957, Howard went on to work in Zambia, Tanzania, Qatar, Uganda, Sierra Leone, Malaysia, Singapore, Hong Kong and Dubai before retiring in 1994. Howard joined the Round Table in 1964 and joined Rotary in 1981. He was president of the Rotary Club in Lytham in 1999.

Apply now for free home insulation

“No-one should be cold in winter in this day and age. The extra insulation will save money and keep people cosy.

Free cavity wall and loft insulation is now available to Fylde householders – thanks to energy companies and Fylde Council.

“The money is expected to run out fairly soon though, so we are advising people to apply soon.”

The companies made the money available to some householders earlier this year. Some of the money remains, so the scheme has been extended to all private households.

The funding is available for standardconstruction homes with suitable wall cavities and for homes with less than 60mm of loft insulation. The free offer applies to labour as well as materials.

The scheme is being implemented through Kirkham-based Home Insulation Services and will save householders an estimated £270 per year.

The offer is not dependant on the householder being in receipt of benefits – as previously – but suitable houses are deemed to be those where scaffolding is not needed while all properties must also be self-contained.

Councillor Cheryl Little, Fylde Council cabinet member for Social Wellbeing, said: “This is a marvellous Christmas gift to hard-pressed residents across Fylde.

Home Insulation Services can be contacted on freephone 0800 0121804 or via email on: sales@hisgroup.com

“The work itself will be done for free, saving hundreds of pounds for householders. Once installed it will save money each year for ever – a fantastic relief in these difficult times.

Non Surgical Cosmetic Treatments Non Surgical treatment has become increasingly popular for both women and men over the past decade. Indeed a troll through the internet can leave you confused and baffled as to which clinic to choose and what treatments to choose help improve your appearance. I have chosen the two commonest non surgical treatments offered by most clinics, that is, Botox and Dermal fillers.

Botox (anti-wrinkle injection) is mainly used to treat the upper face and improve expression lines on the forehead, brow and around the eyes. It works by relaxing the muscle in these areas, hence soften the lines formed over the years. With regular treatment lines can actually disappear. Indeed there are a number of different brands of anti-wrinkle injections but they all essentially work in the same way.

Dermal fillers on the other hand is generally

used to treat the lower part of the face especially lines around the nose, mouth, upper lip and chin areas. Dermal fillers are also used to give volume and shape to both upper and lower lips. There are also a huge range of branded fillers but the most well know is Restylane. Fillers are injected along the facial lines to help lift and smoothen their appearance. Essentially they replace the hyaluronic acid in the skin lost with age. Results can be very user dependent so make sure you choose a fully qualified practitioner. At SL Medical we take the time to understand and address our client’s needs and expectations before taking any decision to treat. That is why we offer all our clients a free no obligation consultation and provide expert advice on the range of treatments we offer. All treatments are performed by a fully qualified doctor. Visit our website at www.slmedical.co.uk for more information and testimonials from just a few of our clients.

Valentine window competition launched

Super-binmen on road to record

The mayor of Fylde is inviting Lytham shops to take part in this year’s Valentine window competition.

Fylde’s super-binmen hit an all-time record over the Christmas and New Year – they missed collecting only five bins over the festive period.

The ever-popular competition was started by former mayor Dawn Prestwich in the 1990s as a way to get people into Lytham shops in the run-up to Valentine’s Day.

The weather was atrocious, the fireside was beckoning…but Fylde Council’s binmen were in good spirits. They worked Christmas Eve and New Year’s Eve and took only Monday 26 December off to be with their families.

Councillor Howard Henshaw, Fylde’s current mayor, is keeping the tradition going by writing next week to 200 businesses in the town to ask them to take part in this year’s competition.
