(Pasta with a Chilli, Bacon and Tomato Sauce) (Serves 4) ingredients 400g bucatini 80g pecorino, freshly grated For the sauce: 130g pancetta, cut into small cubes 1 small onion, finely chopped 3-4 tbsp extra virgin olive oil 1 hot dried red chilli, finely chopped 2 tbsp dry white wine 500g San Marzano tomatoes, cut into quarters For the sauce, put the pancetta and onion in a pan with the oil and chilli, and fry gently for about 4-5 minutes. Add the white wine and tomatoes and cook for a further 15-20 minutes, stirring occasionally. Meanwhile, bring a large saucepan of lightly salted water to the boil, and cook the pasta until al dente. Strain the bucatini and mix with the sauce. Serve sprinkled generously with the freshly grated pecorino.

(King Prawns and Crab with Garlic and Chilli) (Serves 4) ingredients 175ml extra virgin olive oil 12 fresh raw king prawns, shells on 6 garlic cloves, sliced lengthways 1 large red chilli, finely chopped Fresh crab meat from 2 large crabs, in chunks Salt A handful of flat-leaf parsley 250ml white wine 1 lemon, cut into wedges

Heat the oil in a large frying pan, add the king prawns and cook for 2 minutes, turning once. Add the garlic, chilli and crab meat, season with salt, then reduce the heat and cook for a couple of minutes with the lid on. Add the parsley, increase the heat and add the wine and reserved juices from the crab meat if you have any. Bubble until evaporated, then serve immediately with lemon wedges and lots of good country bread to mop up the juices.

Fleetwood Museum will again be hosting events during the Fylde Folk Festival Weekend. The Museum Book sale will be open during the weekend and on every Tuesday till the end of October- from 11.00 to 13.30. We have thousands of titles all at the incredibly low price of 50p. Each.

September is always one of our busiest months. From Thursday 12th September until Sunday 15th September, the museum will be participating in the national Heritage Days programme. A number of Fleetwood’s prominent historic buildings will be open and a programme is available free from the Museum. As part of that major event we will be organising a heritage walk – on the afternoon of Friday September 13th, leaving the museum at 13.30. The theme of the walk will be Fleetwood Railway History 1840 -1970 and examining the effects of the railway in the growth of Fleetwood as a port and resort – please pay on the day -£2 per person.
The annual Decimus Burton Commemoration Day will take place on Tuesday 1st October. There will be a short talk on the architects work, a walk around several of the buildings he designed, near the museum and the popular afternoon tea in the Victorian Dining Room at the museum. Tickets are £5 each (inc. tea) and are now on sale from museum reception.
The previous day Thursday 12th September, will see Dr. John Welshman from Lancaster University, giving an illustrated talk Last Night of A Small Town. The talk starts at 14.00 and relates to the loss of the Titanic and its impact. Dr. Welshman’s book of the

Thursday 12th September to Sunday 15th September, selected highlights... • The Mount Pavilion
A chance to admire fantastic views of Morecambe Bay and the Pennine Hills from the balcony, even the Isle of Man on a clear day. See what you can pick out from the direction finder. The clock on top of the building was presented to Fleetwood in memory of those who lost their lives in the First World War. The internal workings of the clock are on view upstairs and the mechanism can be seen as it strikes every quarter of the hour. A chance to walk over the land developed 150 years ago as a rifle range to enable training of the rifle volunteers of the time to protect our land against a perceived and feared French invasion. This is my fifth time as President and the most enjoyable. We have more than achieved all that we set out to do.:New members have joined our club and fitted in well, Fund raising has been excellent and the Welfare team have worked wonders, plus we have had a good social year. THE MOUNT RACING CLUB UPDATE
THE HIGHS AND LOWS OF RACING
C
alling all National Hunt fans, the Mount Racing Club are pleased to announce that we have teamed up with leading Jumps trainer Micky Hammond to bring us our very first horse that will be aimed at races over fences throughout the winter months. The plan is to run it from October through to the end of March on a lease only based deal. This allows us to offer shares in it without the initial one off purchase payment that is usually charged, therefore meaning that a monthly fee to cover training and racing fees is all that is needed. “How much will it cost?” We hear you say, well there are a couple of options that will certainly appeal and suit all budgets. Firstly you can take a 2.5% share which will be covered by a monthly fee of £70 with nothing else to pay. This can be taken by a sole person or if you want to team up with a friend it can be shared costing each person £35 each. Another option is a 5% share which comes in at £135 per month. This again can be taken by a sole person or can be split between 3 friends costing them £45 each. All prices quoted are final and there are no added extras. Every time the horse runs everyone who is involved will be invited along and will receive Owners badges giving you access to all areas and a share of any prize money won along the way. We are also planning a stable visit to Micky Hammonds stables which are based in the heart of the picturesque village Middleham set in the Yorkshire Dales. Anyone who would like to join us and see the horse and and the rest of Mickys stables are more
than welcome to join us. Saturday 20th July saw our annual Owners day out and the beautiful setting of Ripon Racecourse was this years chosen venue. This is an event that is proving quite popular now and one where each Mount Racing Club receives a complimentary badge for the day. A glorious sunny day ensured a good turn out and were pleased to say that we were able to find plenty of winners as well along the way. Roll on next years day. As we reported in last months edition about both our horses being injured, this month we are now pleased to say that both are well on there way back and should be racing very soon. Loki has been cantering up the gallops on the High Moor and there are no ill effects on his damaged tendon. Eva Clare is probably about a couple of weeks behind him but again is showing no ill effects. Karl and the team think a lot of her and think she is going to be a filly with a very bright future in front of her
