We are open Tuesday - Saturday weekly 10.30am - 4pm until the end of November. Our shop, within the reception area, has numerous local interest books on sale, Fleetwood postcards, children's pocket money toys and unusual gifts. Why not pop in to look round? There is no entrance charge to use the coffee house or look round the shop, but a small entrance charge £3.00 Adults, £2.00 concessions and free admission for children up to 16 years of age applies for viewing the museum galleries. Unfortunately, due to steps and stairs, the museum building is not accessible to people with mobility difficulties. Our new exhibition this year is 'This Lass Can' featuring Fleetwood Women over the years who have made an impact in the town. We are grateful to the 'Friends of Fleetwood Museum' group who have sponsored this exhibition. Due to our short season last year we are continuing with our Fisherman's Friend 'Take a Deep Breath' exhibition, sponsored by Lofthouses of Fleetwood, which proved very popular. Also on view in our deep sea gallery are some artefacts from Fleetwood's heritage trawler, 'Jacinta' which has recently been scrapped. On Friday 26th November 7.15pm, we have arranged a Lancashire Night to be held in Fleetwood Bowling Club. Entertainment is by 'Trouble at Mill' and to include songs, music, dialect poetry, Lancashire Quiz and a Hot Pot supper for £8.00. Tickets are available from reception desk in Fleetwood Museum but as numbers are limited, don't leave it too late to buy your tickets for this event. Our second-hand bookshop, next to the museum will be open Tuesday. Thursday, Friday & Saturday 10.30am - 3.30pm, also Wednesday afternoons 1.15pm - 3.30pm. We have hundreds of books, fiction and non-fiction priced at only 50p each. Children's books are only 10p each.

Turkey Wellington with added excellence Introduction

With Christmas around the corner, here’s a new take on a rustic classic.

Method

1. Trim the turkey, keeping some back for the stuffing, then tie the breast with a loop of string. 2. Heat 2-3tbsp of cooking oil in a large, seasoned frying pan or roasting tray. Pan fry the turkey until golden brown, then cool. Then refrigerate. 3. Stuffing: cook the onions in a knob of butter then cool. Chop the turkey trimmings then blitz. Add sausages until mixed in, season, and tip in two eggs. Blitz again, then add two onions before chilling. 4. Roll the puff pastry on a floured surface to a rectangle. Spread most of the cranberry stuffing on, removing the string from the turkey and laying the breast lengthwise. Add the remaining mix along the centre top of the turkey. 5. Bring one long side of the 40

pastry up and over the turkey. Brush the other long side with beaten egg, then seal. Turn the wellington so that the presentation side is up and put on a lightly oiled baking tray. Chill. 6. To cook the wellington: preheat the oven to 170°C (fan assisted) and bake for 1hr 15mins. After 45mins, brush the wellington with egg to help colour the pastry. Once cooked, rest for 15mins. 7. Now, the sauce: melt a knob of butter in a pan, once bubbling add the shallots or onions and cook on a medium high heat until a rich deep golden colour. Add the honey and continue to cook for a few minutes until bubbling. Now add red wine vinegar and red wine. Bring to the boil and reduce by half, adding the stock before simmering. Mix the ﬂour

(serves four) • 5lb turkey breast with skin removed • 450g puff pastry • Flour, egg and oil For the stuffing • 2 onions, finely chopped • Butter and eggs • 350g turkey trimmings (from breast) • 200g pork sausage, skinned • 150g chopped, dried cranberry • 150g unsweetened chestnut purée • 100g fresh white breadcrumbs For the sauce • 25g butter • 50g shallot or onions, sliced • 1 tbsp honey • 1 tbsp red wine vinegar • 400ml red wine • 300ml chicken stock • 1 heaped tsp plain flour Egg wash (whisk together) • 1 egg yolk • 1 tbsp water with 25g butter and whisk it in, returning the mixture to the boil before reducing to a simmer. Strain through a sieve, season, slice the wellington and serve with noisette potatoes and Brussels sprouts.

Pug’s Bar built in memory of Sundayleague stalwart

Graham’s gall bladder, and he was sent home to rest. But it wasn’t long before he became unwell with sepsis.

A homemade bar built in memory of a Poulton man well known in the local football circuit has raised more than £545 for Trinity Hospice.

Gareth said: “He was admitted back to hospital and stayed for three weeks, but due to the Covid restrictions, we weren’t able to visit him for the whole time he was there. It was such a difficult time for the family, as we weren’t sure if my dad would survive and whether we’d see him again.

‘Pug’s Bar’ sits in the garage of Lynn Mawdsley’s home, hand built in memory of her husband Graham, who died in July last year just three months after being diagnosed with pancreatic cancer, aged just 67.

“But my dad was a fighter right to the end, and he got through it. We were so pleased when he was able to come back home to his family.”

Graham was passionate about football, and was both chairman and manager at Blackpool Rangers for more than 17 years. His son, Gareth, spent three months building the bar to give him something to focus after his death. Then, when lockdown eased, the family’s friends would pop in for a drink and make a donation in Graham’s name. Gareth, 39, said: “Mum had asked dad to build her a bar in the garage, and he said he would. But due to his cancer diagnosis, this obviously never happened. “When my dad passed away, to give me some focus and give the family somewhere we can remember him, I decided to give it a go. A few months later, it was finally up. “Mum would invite people over for a drink and catch up after the restrictions were lifted, but rather than bringing a bottle, as people tend to do, she’d ask them to make a donation to the hospice instead.

Graham spent a few weeks at home, surrounded by his family and getting support from Trinity’s Hospice at Home team, who visit patients in their own homes during the night. Gareth said: “Over time, my dad deteriorated, and he knew the best place for him was in Trinity, where they could provide him with round the clock care. “The staff provided a level of care and support that can only be described as above and beyond – they were more like close friends, rather than his nurses. “He built up a rapport with them, had a laugh with them and managed to smile for as long as he could. “Trinity really is a place like no other, and it’s somewhere that will forever be in our hearts.” In total, Gareth and his family have raised nearly £7,000 in his name through an inmemory online fundraising page as well as donations from the bar. Gareth also joined Lynn in this year’s Beaverbrooks Blackpool 10k Fun Run, supporting the hospice.

“Everyone was so generous, and happy to be asked to help support the place that helped Dad, and all of us.” Graham become unwell in March last year and was sent to hospital for tests, which confirmed he had pancreatic cancer which had spread to his liver. “The news hit us like a train,” Gareth said. “It was a huge shock and was difficult to process.” Doctors fitted a stent to relieve pressure on
