Have your say on new Public Space Protection Orders
W
yre Council is very keen to welcome dog walkers and dogs to the borough and wants to encourage responsible dog ownership. Where there have been problems caused by dogs in public places the council has responded with various initiatives which include dog control orders. These orders require dog owners to clean up after a dog has fouled, keep a dog on its lead in designated areas, put a dog on a lead when asked to do so, refrain from exercising dogs in designated areas and not exercise more than four dogs in certain areas. Dog control orders will become redundant by October 2017 and to ensure effective dog control measures remain, we propose to incorporate the existing orders into new Public Space Protection Orders (PSPOs) and are considering changes, as well as consulting on a new dog control offence. We want to hear your views on these and other aspects of dog ownership to help us look at other initiatives. Councillor David Henderson, Portfolio Holder for Street Scene, Parks and Open Spaces, commented: “We actively welcome well behaved dogs and responsible dog owners and recognise that there should be places for dogs to run free for their own welfare, and the measures proposed provide this balance. 28
“Officers along with partner agencies will also continue to take action to identify dogs and owners reportedly behaving irresponsibly and if deemed necessary will seek to put in place acceptable behaviour contracts, community protection notices or further legal action on a one-to-one basis. I would encourage the general public to have a look at the proposed orders and pass this information on to any groups that might have a particular interest.” As part of this process we are suggesting some minor revisions to the current controls and the introduction of a new measure (requirement to show means to pick up dog poo when asked) based on customer feedback in relation to dog fouling. This new order, used by other local authorities, can be seen as another tool to tackle this issue and push people to be more responsible. PSPOs were introduced to regulate activities in particular public places that can have a detrimental effect on the local community. They are designed to deal with a particular nuisance or problem in a particular area (a public space) that is deemed detrimental to the local community’s quality of life, by imposing conditions on the use of that area which apply to everyone. Blackpool Air Show 2017 Ready for Take Off

lackpool’s breath-taking Air Show is back for 2017 and looks set to be better than ever!
The spectacular free event will take place on Blackpool Promenade on Saturday 12 and Sunday 13 August and will, for the first time, include the Red Arrows on both days. The programme will showcase the very best in British aviation with a whole host of amazing flying machines and some of the country’s most talented pilots.
Legion; Blackpool Transport; RAFA; Love My Beach and Blood Bikes. In addition, there will be a fantastic selection of food and drink concessions including The Nag’s Head serving hot and cold beverages; Shake’n’Smooth for delicious smoothies, shakes and waffles, plus lots more to be announced.
The programme will begin shortly after 1.30pm on both days, with the best viewing points on the promenade between North and Central Piers.
Blackpool has been wowing the public since 1909 when the town put on the very first official air show in Britain. That was the same year French flyer Louis Bleriot made the first historic crossing of the English Channel.
The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight, which features a Spitfire, a Hurricane and a Lancaster Bomber, will take part in a hugely patriotic display. Crowds will also be able to see an RAF Typhoon thunder across the horizon; see spectacular aerobatic displays from Team Twister, the Huey Helicopter and Team Trig as they perform their own versions of aerial ballet with exhilarating sequences of loops and rolls.
Our official Air Show programme will be available to purchase on the day from the VisitBlackpool stand in the main Air Show village or from the VisitBlackpool Tourist Information Centre located at Festival House opposite Blackpool Tower.
The RAF Red Arrows will conclude the display each day with their own display of aerial control, speed and synergy. Cllr Gillian Campbell, Deputy Leader of Blackpool Council, said: “This year marks the 108th annual Blackpool Air Show and I have absolutely no doubt it will be as grand as ever. “The line-up looks superb and it’s fantastic that we have the Red Arrows here performing over two consecutive days. It is an event for the family to enjoy and we hope to encourage more people to come along and stay for the two days and enjoy all that the Air Show and Blackpool has to offer.” Visitors are encouraged to arrive in resort early to avoid any queues. To complement the aerial programme, there is also plenty to see and do on the ground before the show starts with a whole range of stalls, stands and concessions including the Red Arrows ground team; the SPAM roadshow; Arnold Clark; Simulator Supplies; 21 Game Stall; Help for Heroes; Friends of the Red Arrows; Royal British 38
