which he told us was 40 miles west of North Uist within the western most islands of the Outer Hebrides in the North Atlantic. He told us that the last occupants of the island left in the 1930s’ and the army made a base there. The largest island is Hirta whose sea cliffs are the highest in the UK with a sheer drop to the ocean of hundreds of feet. There are two types of sheep on the islands and many varieties of birds – too many to mention.
