She told us how she worked for a bank for thirty years, travelling from Burnley to Bradford every day for twenty seven of them. She was offered early retirement, which she took, and with the money from her lump sum bought a camper van with her partner Matt and toured America for a year. When they came back they were both broke, she decided then to turn her hobby of twenty five years into a career by selling her pots on markets and also went to shows where she found she could join the WI Speakers and has made a career from doing workshops and talks. She showed us how she painted the terracotta pots with emulsion paint and then very carefully split the top layer from 46
napkins, put an outdoor glue on the pot then placed the picture from the napkin onto the pot and then a varnish finished them off. Our next meeting is on 5th October and our speaker next month is Julie Simpson from Lancashire Fire Service who will be showing us how to stay safe this coming winter.
