Six of the best for local loft ladder company

A

ccess4lofts is all about lofts. That’s what they do and with customer service at the heart of the company, they have proven to be one of the great success stories of the region. Quality of service means that, for example, they never subcontract. It also means that the company is fully insured and offers a minimum five year guarantee on all work undertaken. All very important measures to ensure that you, the customer, get the very best installation, service and after care at all times. If you are thinking of opening an otherwise unused space in your home, Access4lofts will have a solution available for you and your budget. Access4lofts was started in 2012 and right from the start the company was fully committed to their customer service. This undertaking has meant that Access4Lofts has received over 1,500 five star customer reviews from past customers. The company is a member of the Lancashire Trading Standards Safe Trader Scheme and has been the recipient of their customer service award for six years running. “We are absolutely over the moon to receive the award for the 6th year in recognition of outstanding customer 2

service. We pride ourselves on providing an excellent service and to receive the award in consecutive years shows our customers value what we do” says Josh Norgate who owns Access4Lofts Blackpool. In short, Access4lofts cares about what they do. No high pressure selling, never letting anyone down, working within customer’s budgets, always turning up on time, finishing a job in the shortest time possible and clearing up afterwards are basic undertakings for the team. If you have a loft and space is getting a little tight at time, Access4lofts might just have the answer for you. Contact them for a chat, you will be surprised at what they can do for you!

Wyre’s got the top Beaches

F

our beaches in Wyre will be flying flags this summer that distinguish them as among the best in the country. Ferry Beach and Marine Beach in Fleetwood and Rossall Beach and Jubilee Beach in Cleveleys have all been awarded Seaside Awards for another year. Keep Britain Tidy’s Seaside Awards are the nationwide standard for the best beaches across the UK. The flag is a symbol of quality which ensures visitors are guaranteed to find a clean, safe, attractive and wellmanaged coastal stretch.

Wyre also has two bathing waters, designated outdoor swimming spots at Cleveleys and Fleetwood, which are both classified as ‘good’ in terms of water quality under tough European cleanliness standards.

Councillor Roger Berry, with responsibility for the beaches in Wyre, commented ‘I’m absolutely delighted with this year’s awards that recognise how well-managed and maintained Wyre’s beaches are. They have been achieved with support from many residents who take part in community beach cleans along the coastline on a regular basis. Thank you to all those who continue to help look after our beaches.’

Councillor Berry added ‘This really shows that we have both quality beaches and clean water, making Wyre’s coast an attractive and enjoyable place to live and visit. Members of the public can play a big part in improving beaches and bathing waters by thinking about what they flush, not dropping litter, joining in beach cleans through the LOVEmyBEACH campaign

The council works closely with other organisations across the North West on a variety of initiatives to improve the quality of beaches and bathing waters, from building new flood defences and sustainable drainage to reducing pollution from sewage systems, agricultural land and surface water outfalls. Beach cleans take part one Saturday every month, details of the next beach clean can be found at www.lovemybeach. org

LINK-Mag Recipe Prep time: 25 minutes Cook time: 45 minutes

You’ll need: Crunchy Topping 75g caster sugar 75g plain flour 60g unsalted butter Choux Pastry 60g unsalted butter 1 tsp caster sugar 1/4 tsp salt 60ml whole milk 60ml water 40g plain flour 45g strong white bread flour 2-3 large eggs, beaten Filling 400g strawberries 2 sprigs of lemon thyme 2 tbsp. caster sugar 600ml double cream 1 tsp vanilla extract What to do: To make the crunchy topping for the eclairs mix together the sugar and the flour, add the butter and rub together until it starts to form a dough. Use your hand to press together into a uniform dough. Place between two sheets of parchment and roll out until it is about 2mm thick. Place onto a baking tray and freeze until needed. To make the choux pastry place the butter, sugar, salt, milk and water into a medium sized saucepan and bring to a rolling boil. Once at temperature pour in both of the flours and immediately mix together with a wooden spoon, until it forms into a ball of dough and there is a dry 26

Strawberry and Lemon Thyme Eclairs Filled with Vanilla Chantilly with Thyme and fresh strawberries layer on the base of the pan. Tip the pastry into a large bowl and set aside for 5 minutes. Add the eggs a little at a time beating until combined before adding more. Add enough egg until the pastry is thick, glossy and has reached dropping consistency. Place the pastry into a piping bag fitted with a plain round piping tip (roughly 1cm wide). Line two baking trays with parchment paper and draw ten 12cm lines onto the back of the parchment, 6 per sheet. Pipe the choux pastry into eclairs, using the lines as guides. Remove the crunchy topping from the freezer and cut into strips 12cmx1.5cm and place one of top of each eclair (this gives the eclairs a crunchy topping but also helps give a uniform shape, making them look more professional). Bake in the oven at 180c (160c fan) for about 30-35 minutes or until the choux is golden brown. Set aside until cooled. To make the filling hull 300g of the strawberries and cut into small dice.

Mix together with 1 tbsp. of the sugar and the thyme. Set aside for an hour or so to macerate. Place the cream, vanilla and remaining sugar into a large bowl and whisk until the mixture holds soft peaks Cut the eclairs through the middle and fill the base of each eclair with the strawberries (leaving the juice in the bowl). Place the cream into a piping bag and pipe the cream on top of the strawberries. Hull the remaining strawberries and cut into quarters, pressing into the sides of the cream as decoration. Top with the eclair lids and dust with a little icing sugar. Once filled the eclairs are best served within a couple hours of assembling but the baked eclairs can be prepared a day ahead. Tip: To get perfect eclairs you need to pipe the eclairs very neatly. Any imperfections in the piping can show up in the baked eclairs. Photo credit: berryworld.com

yre Council launches use of new noise app - a faster, easier way to submit noise evidence

Wyre Council is encouraging anyone experiencing problematic noise to download the new free noise app on which they can make recordings to submit as evidence to the council. The noise app is a new and improved way in which residents can gather evidence to assist the council in investigating their noise complaint. Having made a noise complaint to the council, residents can simply download the smart phone app free of charge from the Apple Store and Google Play Store, and use it to record snap shots of any nuisance noise.

New noise app

It is estimated that every local authority officer deals with an average of 330 complaints every year, with the biggest source of noise nuisance coming from noisy neighbours. It costs local authorities between £130-£7000 to investigate noise complaints, depending on the nature of the complaint and how far it escalates. The use of tools like the noise app help to resolve the problem of noise nuisance before it escalates to court.

They offer professional guidance on technical matters such as noise legislation and allow both sides to have their say and help form a fair agreement that will work for everyone. It is hoped that the noise app will be beneficial for both victims of noise pollution and Wyre Council in collating evidence and that along with the mediation service, will assist in the early resolution of complaints.

Wyre Council, in conjunction with other partners, also offers a free, confidential mediation service for appropriate cases of neighbour dispute or antisocial behaviour.

To find out more about the process of submitting a noise complaint, the mediation service and how to download and use the noise app visit www.wyre.gov. uk/noise

Caring for your pet

H

oliday time is upon us, and some lucky pets may be joining us on our summer getaways. With this in mind, it’s important to take precautions before you go away. It is a legal requirement for dogs to be microchipped. PDSA also recommend cats are microchipped as it’s the most reliable way of identifying them, and improves the chances of them being returned if lost. PDSA Vet Olivia Anderson-Nathan said: “One of the most heartbreaking scenarios is when an injured animal is brought to us but isn’t microchipped, or the details on the chip aren’t up to date. You know the pet has a loving owner who will be desperate to know where they are, but there’s no way to let them know what has happened. These pets can end up in rescue centres if their owners are never found, which if they have strayed long distances may never happen. A simple microchip avoids all this.” To help pet owners, Olivia has provided some top ‘need-to-knows’ when it comes to microchipping:

• While cats don’t require ID, it’s the

law for dogs to wear a collar with ID tag when outside the home. Legally, the collar or tag needs to show the owner’s name and address but including a phone number can be helpful so you can be contacted easily if someone finds your pet.

• A single microchip will last for your

pet’s lifetime. The chip can sometimes move around a little, which is why vets will scan over a pet’s whole body when checking for one. If the owner moves or a pet is rehomed they don’t need a new chip as the owner can just

Microchipping pets update their details with the microchip database – but it’s very important to remember to do this!

• Getting a microchip

shouldn’t be too sore – they are smaller than a grain of rice. It’s similar to getting any other injection like a vaccination and many pets don’t even notice it happening. It goes under the skin between their shoulder blades. They’re made of non-reactive material so shouldn’t cause any reaction or pain once inserted.

• If your pet is found as a

stray and brought to a vet or rescue centre, they will scan for the chip number then get in touch with the microchip company for the owner’s details so they can

contact you. This is why it’s really important to make sure your details are always kept up-to-date in the database.

• Microchipping costs can vary,

but many councils, charities and veterinary clinics offer discounted or even free microchipping schemes. It’s worth researching what’s on offer in your area to get the best option for you and your pet.

• Microchipped pets stand a much

better chance of being reunited with their owners should they ever go missing. For more information visit www.pdsa.org.uk/microchip

PILLING LANE WI We had a wonderful talk from Sharon Bromley last night who told us that she had quite a lot of left over material from having made clothes for herself and children when they were young and wasn’t quite sure what to do with it. She found a lampshade making kit on line and decided to have a try at making one, the instructions were very easy to follow and to her surprise had finished her first lampshade within an hour, she reckons she can now put one together in 40 minutes. They came in all sizes from 20cm to 40cm and have taken over her house, her mother and her sisters’ houses. We were totally enraptured with her craft and quite a few members went home with their own kits (good luck to all of them). Our next meeting at St. Oswalds’ Parish Hall is on 6th June at 7.30pm and Alan Banes a popular speaker will be giving us a talk on musicals, their music and their history so come along and meet us all are welcome..
