Cloudy2Clear Windows – Service With A Smile! ADVERTISEMENT

It’s been a crazy few months for Cloudy2Clear Windows. The company which specialises in repairing windows which are steamed up, broken or damaged by replacing the panes – not the frames has grown rapidly as homeowners take advantage of their services. Branch Manager Paul Aspin feels that it’s all about service. ‘Our product is simple. If your double glazing is misted up we can replace the glass at a fraction of the cost of a new window, in any type of frame, and with a new 5 year guarantee. But it’s not just about saving people money, although that obviously helps.

Many tradespeople have struggled since last year and I honestly feel that during the good times a minority perhaps didn’t focus on customer care as much as they should have done. We make sure we turn up when we say we will, do the job the customer requires and leave their house as clean as a whistle. I often get comments back from customers on how they really didn’t expect that sort of service which, in a way, is very sad for the service industry as a whole.’ Cloudy2Clear service the Ribble Valley area & Paul is finding that his approach is a major factor in his success. ‘The truth

is that it’s not just the personal satisfaction that I get from doing a good job but also it makes good business sense. I get a huge amount of business from friends and family of people I’ve done work for, which just

goes to show how much a little bit of effort is appreciated.’ So, if your windows are steamed up, broken or damaged give Paul a call for a free quotation on 0800 61 21 118 and he’ll be happy to help!

Ribble Valley Residents Urged To Recycle More Metal

M

AKE Metals Matter is the name of a new recycling bid backed by Ribble Valley Borough Council.

Residents are being encouraged to recycle their share of the estimated 30million cans, aerosols and foil trays, and over 3.5million metres of wrapping foil, used in the UK every year. The council has leafleted the borough’s 25,529 homes and put signs on the side of its refuse collection vehicles. Metal packaging can be recycled numerous times, saving money and the environment, but research has shown that many consumers are not aware of it. Now Ribble Valley Borough Council has joined forces with Lancashire County Council and the metal packaging manufacturing industry to raise awareness of metal recycling and increase the amount collected 10 from households.

equivalent to the annual emission from 440 cars. “We are calling on residents to recycle more of their metal packaging and every recycled can saves enough energy to run a television for four hours, so putting them in the blue wheeled bin can make a big difference.” The campaign is funded by Metal Matters, a partnership of the UK’s producers, users and recyclers of metal packaging, along with Lancashire County Council, and run by Global Renewables Lancashire and aluminium packaging recycling organisation Alupro. Rick Hindley, executive director of Alupro, added: “It is great to work with Ribble Valley Borough Council to promote the recycling of metal packaging across the borough. “The Metal Matters programme has delivered significant increases in the volumes of metal packaging collected for recycling in other parts of the UK, so we are aiming to repeat and hopefully better this in Ribble Valley.”

Robert Thompson, chairman of the council’s community services committee, said: “If all the metal packaging used in Ribble Valley each year was recycled, it would save around 1,796 tonnes of carbon dioxide, the

ARKING charges are to be waived at counciloperated car parks in Clitheroe and Longridge town centres on three Saturdays in December and January. The charges are being waived as part of the council’s annual festive business boost. Free parking will be on offer for up to four hours at council-operated car parks in Clitheroe town centre and Barclay Road Car Park in Longridge on Saturday, December 12, 19 and January 2. Ribble Valley Borough Council leader Stuart Hirst said the council was delighted to do its bit to boost trade during the12 festive season. He said: “The council has been offering free festive parking at its car parks for some years now and the initiative has proved a great success.

12

“A lot of hard work goes into making Christmas in Ribble Valley special and we hope shoppers from throughout Lancashire will take advantage of the free parking to visit the borough and see what its unique, independent shops have to offer.” Charges will be waived at council-operated car parks in Clitheroe and Longridge town centres, but normal charges will apply at the Edisford Road Car Park in Clitheroe and village car parks. The free parking is available for up to four hours per vehicle. Retailers and workers are reminded that the free parking is for the benefit of customers and visitors. advice on staying warm and well this Winter Over the last ten years a staggering quarter of a million older people have died from the cold. Research shows that exposure to the cold can have a devastating impact on the health of older people, who are particularly vulnerable to the impact of low temperatures. As people get older it takes longer to warm up which can be bad for people’s health. The cold thickens blood and increases blood pressure, and breathing in cold air can increase the risk of chest infections. The good news is that preparing effectively for the cold weather can literally save lives. That’s why this winter Age UK will be working hard to remind older people and carers of the importance of taking simple precautions to stay warm and well. The Charity is urging people to call Age UK Advice for free on 0800 169 65 65, and order a free copy of the Charity’s ‘Winter Wrapped Up’ guide which contains a free thermometer and provides tips on staying warm in winter. Alternatively the guide can be downloaded from www. spreadthewarmth.org.uk where contact details for local Age UKs can also be found.

AGE UK’S TOP TIPS FOR STAYING WARM AND WELL THIS WINTER l 64°F (18°C) is the ideal temperature for your bedroom and 70°F (21°C) is the ideal temperature for your living room. Check your thermostat or use a room thermometer to monitor temperature l Keep your bedroom window shut on at night. Breathing in cold air can increase the risk of chest infections. l Stay active and when you are indoors try not to sit still for more than an hour, if you can get up. Walk around or make a hot drink. l Eat well. It’s important to eat well, especially in the winter. Have at least one hot meal a day and have regular hot drinks, as they help to keep you warm. Also stock up on basic food items in case of a cold snap.

Caroline Abrahams, Charity Director at Age UK, said: “Although it sounds like common sense, advising people on how to stay warm in winter can actually make all the difference. Many people are not fully aware of how the cold affects our bodies differently as we age and how, if we don’t take sensible precautions, it can very quickly put our lives in danger. “Winter can be an incredibly daunting and difficult time for older people, especially those who live alone or are housebound, so it’s vital that we do all we can to help them prepare for the colder weather. We urge anyone who is concerned about keeping warm and well over winter to get in touch with their local Age UK to find out how we can help them.”

Age UK’s Campaign for Warm Homes For many years, Age UK has argued that improving energy efficiency in people’s homes is the long term to solution to the high levels of excess winter deaths, winter health problems and fuel poverty amongst older people in England. Due to the closure of one of the Government’s flagship energy efficiency programme - the Green Deal - currently there is very limited support for anyone who wants to install measures to make their home warmer. That is why the Campaign for Warm Homes is urgently calling on the Government to reform its energy efficiency programme to enable all older people to live in a warm home. For more information about the campaign and contacting your local MP, please go to www.ageuk.org.uk/ warmhomes

WHEN IT COMES TO HOME IMPROVEMENTS, YOU KNOW YOU ARE THE BEST AT WHAT YOU DO WHEN SARAH BEENY REQUIRES YOUR SERVICES TO WORK ON HER OWN HOME. RESIN DRIVES BASED IN BRADFORD WON THE CONTRACT TO RE-SURFACE SARAH’S 450 METRE DRIVEWAY EARLIER THIS YEAR, JUST ANOTHER CELEBRITY NAME TO ADD TO THEIR CUSTOMER LIST AS THEY ALSO TRANSFORMED URI GELLER’S 2,000 METRE DRIVE LAST YEAR. Being a well-known expert at home improvements and restoration work to property that adds aesthetic and monetary value, Sarah wants only the best people when it comes to working on her own home and obviously the reputation for the standard and high quality of work Resin Drives in Bradford provides is spreading and reaching people at the highest level. The Background Resin bound drives were traditionally used in the commercial sector as the range of colours and patterns lend themselves perfectly to corporate colours and logos and have been used for hotels, company headquarters and even premiership football clubs and soon the more prestigious home builders wanted resin drives for their new developments as they definitely add the ‘wow factor’. The aggregate is supplied in a large choice of standard and bespoke shades making the decorative potential unique to your taste and colour scheme, and the use of templates on site means that virtually any pattern and style can be achieved, including lettering and images within your driveway.

giving it all round better traction for tyres, making it safer for walking on and last but not least, it’s up to 10 times more eco-friendly than concrete. Some companies will lay resin on hard-core, however you should really only lay resin drives on concrete or asphalt. With a tired looking tarmac drive that’s still in relatively good condition then a resin bound drive can transform it in comparatively quick time.

Kerb Appeal Home owners and house builders alike recognise that differentiating a property’s façade from neighbouring homes can have a positive impact on value and with the decorative potential that Resin Drives provides, it’s the deal way to do just that.

Guarantee The completed driveway itself is porous so there’s no issues with drainage, it’s resistant to weed growth and occasional power washing is all the maintenance that’s required. Resin Drives offer a 5 Year Insurance Backed Guarantee on all of their installations.

Achieve stunning results At their large premises in Bradford, they have constructed a state of the art external showroom to give customers an understanding of what resindrives. co.uk are all about and the options available on colour and finish. Resin Drives believe in looking after our environment and are taking steps to lower their carbon footprint. All of their resin drives are made up of natural stone and 100% organic resin, which look fantastic, and is as strong and durable as concrete, without the heavy cost to the planet. Resin completely transforms driveways, patio areas and even something as simple as a path.

Why Resin over concrete, block paving or tarmac? That’s simple; their product naturally drains water through the finished surface which means no more puddles. It is also resistant to weeds, hence

January.... a very long Monday!

C

hristmas was around the corner and we all had presents to buy. So what a relief to have received an early payday in the last month of the year; you got in the turkey, bought Auntie Jean that nice box of chocolates, sat back and relaxed during the holiday season! But then...once the crackers are popped, wrapping papers recycled, and the final fireworks of the New Year have fizzled out; we realise we still have an entire month till the next payday! All of a sudden, digging through the Christmas pudding to search for a couple of extra pennies seems like a good idea! To help us all get through that extra long wait between pay days, try a few of these top tips so the money stretches that little bit longer... 1) With the cold weather in full swing, save money on expensive coffee shop drinks by spending the same amount of two takeaway coffees on a travel mug and making your own. With a saving of approximately £15 - £20 a week, making your own caffeine fix can really 30 make a difference to the budget. On a similar note, save between £30 - £50 a week by making your own packed lunches instead of buying lunch each day.

2) At this time of year, we’re all in the same boat, so why not club together with colleagues? Even in a workplace with only 4/5 people, even a £1 a week each will cover some teabags and milk. Or each take a day of the week each to make lunch for your team. You may find you discover a new favourite when Craig from HR brings in a lovely tuna pasta bake for everyone!
