HELLO and a very warm welcome from the Management Team of Tram Sunday. Each year we aim to put on a show which is better than the one before. This year is no exception. Not content with classic vehicles, amusement rides, entertainment and catering, we will be holding two parades one at 11am and one at 3.30pm. The 3.30pm parade will for the first time be going in reverse order which means that it will be starting at the North Euston Hotel. This will be the SpareParts ‘Super Scrap Race’ with a company called Rag and Bone leading the way. It will finish in the Memorial Park where you will find more activities. Please stay and take a look. Run entirely by volunteers, the town of Fleetwood is very lucky to have a group of people willing to give up their spare time to organise such a prestigious event. Also this year we have our lovable scarecrows. They will be dotted around all over the town. Welcome to the 3rd edition of SpareParts as part of Tram Sunday. I am delighted to be leading the team this year to ensure Fleetwood Festival of Transport programmes a dynamic concoction of local and national artists to help surprise, inspire and entertain you as part of this much loved event. This is my first year working on SpareParts and it’s been an incredible voyage so far. I have met incredible artists from the area who have contributed ideas and helped build the programme. I have been fortunate to link with companies from across the UK whose transport inspired art has been a pleasure to programme for your enjoyment. I have been also been fortunate to have worked closely with a hugely talented team from LeftCoast and Wyre Council. I take my hat off to the very inspiring Fleetwood Festival of Transport committee who work all year round in their own time to make this special community event for us all to enjoy. Thanks must go to Arts Council England, who support SpareParts through its Grants for the Arts scheme and the Coasters network of partners. But mostly I have been motivated by the inclusion of a very strong participation strand to this year’s festival. SpareParts artists have been working across Fleetwood and beyond to support, build and learn from local residents and community groups. Please make sure you make it to the ‘Junk Yard’ Village in Memorial Park and don’t miss the ‘Super Scrap Race’ Parade (3:30pm) to see how much work has been contributed from the people of Fleetwood. We aim to make YOUR participation even bigger in the years to come. Please get in touch if you would like to be part of next years event. Throughout the last 3 months we have been asking Fleetwood residents to reflect on their most memorable journeys. This has certainly been one of mine. The Civic Parade will commence at 11.00am from Fisherman’s Walk/ Ash St and will Include a large number of vehicles of all types. The Festival will be opened by the Mayor and The Town Crier. The parade will include Fleetwood Lifeboat Crew and the Old Boys Band. The parade will proceed down Lord St towards North Albert St and on towards the North Euston Hotel. Please keep back from the road as the procession goes by. SPAREPARTS SUPER SCRAP RACE
The SpareParts Super Scrap Race will start at The North Euston Hotel at 3.30pm and will go down Lord Street, finishing in Memorial Park at the end of Warrenhurst Road. Again, please keep back from the road as the parade goes by. At 4.30pm, in Memorial Park, the Event Finale will take place with the Bullzini Family’s 8m high wire tight rope walking spectacle.

There will be a Town Crier in attendance who will happily pose for photographs.

Fleetwood Festival of Transport is a community event, run by a team of volunteers who have grown it from strength to strength and the team work hard to ensure that the event is even more memorable, successful and enjoyable year on year. This means that we are always looking for more people that can help with the planning or organisation and of course, on the day itself.
The amount of hard work, time and effort that goes into the delivery of the festival, throughout the previous twelve months is immense. Just like in any business or organisation, in order to deliver ambitious and exciting plans more helpers, in this case volunteers, are needed to join the team. Could this be you? Some skills would be useful for various roles but no experience is necessary, just enthusiasm and a few hours to spare. Being involved in the organisation of an event like this, brings a warm glow of satisfaction, new friends, a fascinating new interest and the knowledge that you have been part of making something special get even better. We are currently looking for volunteer workshop assistants for The Mount Pavilion, right here in the heart of Fleetwood. Due to the success of our exceptional and exciting arts and creativity workshop programme, which runs at the Mount throughout the year including school holidays, we need a few pairs of helping hands. You don’t need to have any prior experience but you do need to be over the age of 18. You may be a parent or grandparent who already attends our workshops, or you may be looking for some hands on experience to boost your career (and your CV!). TV CAR RESTORATION IS A LABOUR OF LOVE
as one of 10 finalists for the national title of Restorer of the Year and won the coveted `Golden Spanner’ at the Practical Classics Restoration Show, at Birmingham’s NEC on Sunday, April 13, in front of thousands of classic car fans who voted for the car.
FROM the film set of a 1960s mystery spy thriller to the riverside town of Bewdley – this iconic Volvo P1800 has turned a new corner after being fully restored by a car enthusiast.
The white Volvo coupé, which featured in the first episode of the classic TV series The Saint, starring James Bond actor Roger Moore, has been spruced up by engineer Kevin Price, of Bewdley. Kevin found it decaying under thick brambles on a farm in North Wales more than 20 years ago and since then has spent seven years and thousands of pounds restoring it to its former glory. Mr Price’s hard work has been rewarded – he was shortlisted

Mr Price, who founded the Volvo Enthusiasts’ Club, had been contacted by many people over the years claiming to have the original Roger Moore Saint car 71 DXC – known to TV fans as ST 1 – so in 1991 when he took a call from someone claiming to have the original Volvo, he was sceptical. It will be on display at the North Euston Hotel at Tram Sunday.
BOB HOPWOOD After many years of service to the Tram Sunday committee, Bob has decided to retire. He has both offered and sought advice on all things connected with the Health and Safety of the event. He will now dedicate more time to his wife and spend the rest of his time looking after the grandchildren, not forgetting the time he will spend playing bowls. We thank him for his help and wish him all the best for the future.
STEVE BECKER 1959 - 2016 The Fleetwood Festival of Transport Committee would like to pay tribute to BBC Radio Lancashire journalist Steve Becker who sadly passed away earlier this year. His support for Tram Sunday and his reporting on news and events in Fleetwood was invaluable and he will be sadly missed by many in the town.

THE FODEN BUS
The job of Development and Research Coordinator is both exciting and challenging. One of my ongoing tasks for Fleetwood Festival of Transport – Tram Sunday is to find vehicles that are unusual and different because of the vehicle enthusiasts who come to the event each year to see what’s new and different. Well, this year we have a great vehicle coming! I am delighted to have tracked down a Foden PVSX6 Coach which was built in 1949 by H.V Burlington of Blackpool, so she’s a local girl! The Foden with a registration plate of LMA 284 is the last surviving vehicle of its type in roadworthy condition. The coach or as they were called in those days, charabancs, is currently on display at the Greater Manchester Transport Museum. Ralph Bullock of Bullocks Coaches, Cheadle bought the coach soon after it was built in 1949 and kept it in service until 1973 when it was retired and placed in the museum. With the kind permission of Alan Bullock of Bullocks Coaches and Dennis Talbot from the Greater Manchester Transport Museum, we have teamed up, not only to bring the coach to Fleetwood for Tram Sunday but one of Ralph Bullocks most

up-to-date coaches is coming too. Both coaches will take part in the morning vehicle parade and afterwards will be parked up beside each other for you to inspect and take pictures. My thanks also go to Mr Keith Moyes of the Leyland Motor Museum for giving me permission to roam around the museum at no charge. HERITAGE TRAMS VINTAGE HERITAGE TRAMCARS Service is every 20 minutes from ASH STREET to PLEASURE BEACH. Standard Tram No 147. Green and Cream Enclosed Double Decker Tramcar. Named “Michael Airey.” Built in 1924 to the same design as many created by the transport department at Blackpool, but in this case by Hurst Nelson of Motherwell. 147 left the UK in 1967 bound for America, but was never fully used at the museum she went to. In 2000, she was returned home in two halves and was fully restored. She was named Michael Airey in honour of the body shop manager who worked so hard to get this tram back and have her returned to service. Boat Cars 600, 227, 230. Green and Cream, or Red and White Open Topped Single Decker (Weather Dependent) Built in 1934 as part of a huge upgrade of the Blackpool tram fleet by Walter Luff, the then General Manager, these were a summer variant of the more usual closed saloon ‘Railcoaches’. These are the three that now survive on the tramway and always prove very popular on summer days. The prototype, No. 600 is in its original green and cream livery as it was seen on delivery, whereas 227 wears a Red and White livery that was Blackpool’s livery for vehicles up to 1933. 230 is also Green and Cream but in the 1970s style and is named “George Formby” on the side. Being the prototype, No. 600 also slightly differs from the others by having shallower side panels and as such has earned the nickname of “Little Willie”.
OTHER POTENTIALLY OPERATIONAL CARS This list of trams from the operational heritage fleet from which a ‘changeover’ of vehicles may be used on the day. Also within this list will be a number of trams that may be used as static exhibits on the day as part of the SpareParts Art Programme. Brush “Railcoach” 631. Green and Cream Single Decker Enclosed Tramcar Again dating from the upgrade in the mid1930s that helped the tramway survive, car 631 is one of a few to survive the upgrade and is shown in the more recent version of her livery. This is similar to the type of tram that the Trailers were rebuilt from as well as the One Man Operated or OMO cars that were rebuilt in the 1970s and which almost certainly ensured the tramway survived into modern times. Centenary Class Tramcars 642 or 648. Green and Cream Single Decker Enclosed Tramcars These trams were built using bus technology and parts for ease of exchange and better costings by East Lancs Coachbuilders of Blackburn between 1984 and 1988. They replaced the OMO cars that were life expired, but still being One Man Operated, they were cheaper to operate and mostly maintained the less frequent winter services. They were christened “Centenary” class as they arrived at around the centenary year of the tramway in 1985. 648 was originally numbered 651 as an experiment for GEC to test out new equipment and at the end of the experiment was renumbered 648 and entered normal service in 1990. 648 has been restored back to her 1988 appearance.

Tram 304 In 1952 an order for 25 new trams was made from Charles Roberts of Wakefield. These were the so-called “Coronations”, as they arrived mostly within the Coronation year of Queen Elizabeth the Second in 1953. However, while being extremely luxurious and stylish, they were very heavy and started to damage the tracks. Additionally, they also had breaking problems, though this was later put down to the tramways department removing sets of batteries on each one to try and make them lighter and less harmful to the tracks. So by trying to solve one problem, they created another. They didn’t last too long in service and by the 1970s had mostly been withdrawn. Only three now survive, two of which are operational. 304, the prototype, was the subject of a Channel Four “Salvage Squad” programme which saw it brought back to life. Balloon Car 715. Green and Cream Double Decker The backbone of the fleet from their introduction in the mid-1930s until the new era of the LRV (Light Rail Vehicle) tramway in 2012. Balloons (as the double decker streamline trams become known) were actually delivered in two formats. 700 to 712 were originally bought as open toppers as seen in 706. 713-726 were delivered as closed toppers as seen in 715 which has recently returned to the heritage service operational fleet following extensive overhaul. It is finished in 1985 livery which is the year that Tram Sunday first took place and is easily recognisable with its distinctive Tram Sunday advertising strip between decks.

Bolton Corporation Tramcar No. 66. Maroon and Cream Enclosed Double Decker Now the only survivor of the Bolton Tramways fleet, 66 was built in 1901 by the Electric Railway and Carriage Co. When Bolton, like many towns and cities, closed down their tramways just after the Second World War, 66 was sold off for just a few pounds and the lower saloon become a caravan!. In 1964 she was rescued and over the next couple of decades she was restored by a small band of dedicated tram fans. As a precursor to the upcoming Centenary Celebrations due in 1985, in 1981 she was allowed to be the first “foreign” preserved tram to operate in Blackpool to see if the public would ride on such a tram, which must have been a success as she has been here ever since. STATIC HERITAGE TRAMS History of the Blackpool/Fleetwood Tramway. The tramway we see today running continuously from Starr Gate to Fleetwood Ferry was not always as joined up as it is now. The Corporation trams started in 1885, but only ran to Cocker Square, but later extended to The Gynn. However, until 1920, should you wish to ride to Fletwood, it involved a change of not only tram, but type of company too, as the connecting service was run by a private company. The Blackpool & Fleetwood Electric Tramroad Co Ltd, was opened in 1898 and had depots at Fleetwood and Bispham. It ran 40 trams and was financially sound. The tramway was an interurban system running mostly through quite lightly populated areas, but had enough larger places on its route to continue to be profitable. Box 40 arrived in 1914 to a design very similar to those of the Manx Electrical Railway’s trams on the Isle of Man,
which also still operate. Upon purchase by Blackpool Corporation in 1920, the two tramways were finally connected at The Gynn, as they still are today. In fact, at the Gynn an idiosyncrasy of the two systems once being separate can still be seen, as the corporation preferred to have its tram poles at the side of the tracks, whereas the Tramroad Co liked to have their traction poles in the middle between the two tracks. Even though all the original poles have been renewed, that practice of preferred pole position, is still kept alive even today. “B FLEET” Double Decker Enclosed Tramcars in Blackpool Council Purple and White Flexity Livery. 711 or 719 With the advent in 2012 of the new upgraded tramway with its brand new fleet of 16 Bombardier “Flexity 2” type tramcars, it was felt that from time to time when demand grew, such as at half term or during the famous Illuminations, that the Flexity fleet might not always be able to cope. Therefore, a programme of rebuilding some of the spare 1930s Balloons was commenced. In total some 9 cars were earmarked for conversion which mostly involved fitting a different type of “plug fit” doors, to enable them to pick up passengers at the newly constructed LRV style platforms on the upgraded system. Despite their conversion however, the changes, while quite dramatic looking, are in fact, very easily removed and so if in future it is deemed desirable to restore any of the three numbered above, then this should not pose too much of a challenge to achieve. That said, with the plug doors, fitting of a pantograph and new striking livery that mimics the Flexity corporate style, the trams do, despite their 80 years’, age quite well it has been said.
Brush “Railcoach” 680. Green and Cream Single Decker Enclosed Tramcar Again dating from the upgrade in the mid-1930s that helped the tramway survive, car 680 is one of a few to survive and is shown in the more recent version of her livery. This is similar to the type of tram that the trailers were rebuilt from as well as the One Man Operated or OMO cars that were rebuilt in the 1970s and which almost certainly ensured the tramway survived into modern times. 680 is currently on loan from Heaton Park Tramway. Why not take a return Tram Tour to North Pier and back on one of the eight Heritage Trams visiting us today? They will be running from Ash Street, at the southern end of the festival throughout the whole day.

WELCOME TO THIS YEAR’S SPAREPARTS FESTIVAL THE UK’S ONLY FESTIVAL OF ART, PERFORMANCE AND SPECTACLE DEDICATED TO TRANSPORT AND TRAVEL. AS WELL AS ALL THE INCREDIBLE VINTAGE VEHICLES, ONCE AGAIN THIS YEAR WE ARE DELIGHTED TO BRING TO YOU A DIZZYING DISPLAY OF ACTS OF MOTION, MOVEMENT AND WONDER ACROSS 5 ZONES IN FLEETWOOD. The fun has already been full steam ahead with weeks of works from our varied participation. For weeks young people in West View Estate have been working with one of our artists to create a unique motion installation that will form an integral part of the events in Memorial Park. The Windmill Players have imagined an exciting new interactive performance that will take place onboard one of our trams and young people in four local schools have been working with Mobility Scooter owners to redesign the Scooters to represent the owners’ dreams as part of the final parade. As communities across Fleetwood have geared up for their involvement in Tram Sunday we have been asking people to reflect on their ‘Most Memorable Journeys’. Please don’t forget to catch a our special sound installation in the SpareParts ‘Junk Yard’ which has captured the transport dreams, horrors and many comedy journeys from the people of Fleetwood. This year we have five exciting Zones for you to explore. Immerse yourself, try a new skill or sit in awe in one of our five specially programmed areas (see overleaf). For the last few weeks at Freeport we have also been building a top secret ‘Parade Finale’ which will see hundreds of Fleetwood residents contribute their most memorable journeys which will be used to build a huge spectacle closing this year’s SpareParts Super Scrap Race. The Super Scrap Race is Wacky Races meets The Tour de France as a varied array of transport contraptions, characters and collaborations vie to win the first ever Super Scrap Race starting from Euston Gardens at 3:30pm to Memorial Park. We would love you to join the end of the race and witness who wins first prize. As well as all the work happening on the ground, various acts of magic, mayhem and momentum have been confirmed from the sea to the sky and everything in between: You won’t want to miss a pyrotechnic showband, skating bees, a sea monster from the depths of the ocean and the Bullzini Family’s 8m high wire spectacle which will close the day’s events in Memorial Park at 4:30pm. The management team, festival staff and greater Fleetwood community have been busy creating an incredible journey which we hope will inspire, amaze and entertain you for Tram Sunday 2016.

SPAREPARTS VILLAGE ZONES THE JUNK YARD (MEMORIAL PARK)
The ‘Junk Yard’ is the SpareParts village. This is where audiences can come to experience a wide range of performances to transport you from Tram Sunday into a wild world of motion, mayhem and fun. Activities happening all day from 11am until the final performance at 4:30pm

(LORD STREET AND WARRENHURST ROAD) A brand new stage has been erected in Lord Street (near Warrenhurst Road). All day there will be a continual display of local musical talents. Local bands, singers and performers will be on The Garage Band Stand showing the best of Fleetwood’s bands.

All along Lord Street we will have some of the most colourful characters entertaining the crowds all day. From the curvaceous Boom Booms to skating bees and the infamous Lollipop Ladies, the town will come alive with these mesmerising visitors.
A stage has been erected on Pharos Place where audiences will be treated to a mixture of local, national and international performances remembering our most memorable journeys. A wild mix of performers will keep audiences entertained at ‘The Pitt Stop’. Come and take a break and let our performers do the work.

KIDS STATION - (EUSTON GARDENS
A first for Tram Sunday ‘Off the Rails’ takes over Euston Gardens to create a space exclusively for the under 10’s. Circus, Dance, Craft and Drumming workshops will be ongoing throughout the day. This is also the place to hear the famous story of the last mermaid in Fleetwood. ‘Off The Rails’ will also host ‘Planes, Trains and Rubber Rings’ an interactive adventure for the imaginative under 10’s.

THE SPAREPARTS SUPER SCRAP RACE
At 3:30 the first ever ‘Super Scrap Race’ will take place. Everyone is encouraged to join the end of the race and see who will be the first winner. The Super Scrap Race will be a parade of all the featured artists and all of the communities who have been working towards Tram Sunday over the past three months.

Two giant towers face one another, offering platforms bridged by a tensile wire eight metres from terra-firma. Fantastic feats Of equilibrium are performed with daredevil ease, but more than just tricks, the audience will be invited into a magical world of balance, humour and hanging out the washing where a playful picture is painted on the skies. A tender, post-apocalyptic love story, The Wheel House is an acrobatic promenade show, which unfolds inside and around a circular set as it rolls with the audience walking alongside. An enchanting story set in a dystopian future, at a time where survival relies on sharp eyes, quick hands, and above all, friendship. RAMSHACKLICIOIUS MR AND MR BURN CIRCUS GEEKS AND PANGOTTIC PROJECT_VEE Roulette wheel meets juggling: danger, skill and unpredictable moments. Project_Vee is a nod to a Soviet era circus act, remixed for the 21st century. Steel, concrete and motors meet in an unlikely way; Project_Vee takes juggling in a different dimension. Literally. Project_Vee Is commissioned by Without Walls, Ageas Salisbury International Arts Festival and Out There, after an original investment by the City of London Festival. Supported using public funding By Arts Council England, and support from the National Centre for Circus Arts, Worthing Theatres and 101 Outdoor Arts.

Meet Mr. and Mr. Burn, an explosive, chaotic, offbeat double act with a touch of disaster about them. One part strange function room musician, the other part, the not so tuneful crooner. Listen as they fill the air with some sweet swinging, brass heavy music, performed from their small but decadent mobile bandstand. But will they get through their concert without setting their whole world on fire? This new solo show from Ramshacklicious is built around a darkly comic, musical world containing original live and looped music played on trombone, tuba, baritone uke and electronic drums. Into this mix add contemporary clowning, physical theatre, puppetry, bespoke set design, fire and pyrotechnics. Creating a world of surprises where anything can and will go wrong! ARTEMIS THE FUNNELS Captain Carbuncle, The Very Sweet Fanny Adams and Colonel Cognac have set sail aboard the Three Funnels and are seeking new adventures. The playful Funnels are characters in their own right and stand out in a crowd whether they are standing still, dancing, tooting their horns or playing follow the leader they are guaranteed to draw attention and surprise people. When the time is right Carbuncle, Adams and Cognac pop up from inside to interact with the crowds, this comical Victorian trio then invite audiences to join in with their games, fun and frivolity. The funnels provide a modern twist on the glamour of a bygone era and promise to bring a jovial nautical flavour to any event, whether it be landlocked or coastal. Performances 11am & 1pm

THE SOUNDAVAN BUZZ BURY The SOUNDAVAN is a SpareParts installation helping to provide the pulse to the ‘Junk Yard’ SpareParts Village. The inside of this unique caravan has been fitted with a mixing desk and DJ equipment. The SOUNDAVAN will be parked up and will be playing music and stories for a series of events and activities on Tram Sunday. DJing for the passers by, a music system for dance and performances, and a soundsystem for bands. Performances All day in the ‘Junk Yard’ Village.
SAVE OUR STORIES BLACKPOOL COUNCIL, SUPPORTED BY LEFTCOAST
Save our Stories imagines a future where all our stories have disappeared and it’s up to the chidren and young people of Fleetwood to get them back. It’s an imaginative and vibrant approach to storytelling and story sharing. The Save our Stories Rescue Vehicle will be parked in the ‘Junk Yard’ Village all day delivering transport inspired adventures. Performances All day in the ‘Junk Yard’ Village.
Watch out for a secret performance by FY WINGZ and School of Street, which will be taking audiences by surprise throughout the Junk Yard. The Junk Yard will have workshops, buskers and secret performances happening all day.

ZONES 2-4 GREENBANKS PRODUCTIONS “AIRSHIP CASTAWAYS” A spiffing new adventure yarn featuring explorer extraordinaire and inventor His Lordship of Finchley and Johnson. They have crashed in foreign parts due to someone’s inept navigation and having survived, their only problem now is a shortage of the right sort of gas for the “bloon” and, of course, His Lordship’s snifters.
WALK THE PLANK WITH ISSIE MAJOR GRANNY-PORTE Outdoor arts experts Walk the Plank are bringing Granny-porte to Fleetwood. This ground-breaking invention has been created by sculptor Andy Plant and involves 18 cyclists helping to transport Granny to ‘The Junk Yard’ in Memorial Park... but we need your help. Cheer the cyclists on as they journey through Fleetwood, with Granny in tow. Don’t miss this amazing spectacle, previously seen in the Grand Depart (A team of 18 cyclists who towed the piano up the longest ascent in England, Cragg Vale - part of the Yorkshire Tour de France route.) Performances All day on WarrenHurst Road.

Dan Fox is an artist, musician, inventor and maker. His practice encompasses many forms: music, sculpture, sound and street performance. Mixing-up engineering, imagination, cutting-edge technology and age-old techniques. He creates both site-specific and touring work. Often outside and increasingly off-grid. In 2008 he founded Sound Intervention. Based in Cumbria, the company works with associate artists, technicians and musicians. Dan Fox is inspired by people and places. Natural and man-made environments. Responding to history, architecture and the elements. He creates original, engaging and public facing work. For Spareparts Sound intervention will be roaming the streets of Fleetwood with the BoomBike sound system and Easy Stride Band. See if you can find them throughout Tram Sunday. BOOM BOOMS SHOWGIRLS This gorgeously mischievous trio of fabulous, voluptuous, curvaceous and vivacious Showgirls Interact with everything and anything they find, they’re always searching for the perfect opportunity to show you their full flabulousness! Giant lobsters take over! As evolutionists predicted, the new masters of the planet have arisen from the seas. A surreal and endearing walkabout. Riding in a cart pulled by a charismatic character; this inflatable lobster is a sight to behold.
MADAME BONBON will bring a magical, topsy-turvy, complex aroma and fullbodied feast to any festival. Her hairstyle alone is a drama. Follow her path as she whimsically creates a sumptuous evening peppered with intricate wit, batty tongue twisters and ridiculous riddles. She’s a barking mad royal personality, sweeping through the town, imparting accusations as vehement as they are bewildering and compliments as barbed as they are humorous.

With flying vehicles, moving bathtubs and pollen powered bee scooters who will manage the mayhem. Wacky Races meets Tour de France, thankfully we have the slightly inept Scrap Race Officials who will be prowling Tram Sunday to find further contestants and make sure everything is in (some kind of) order. CURIOUS CARGO LTD. THE LOLLIPOP PATROL With excessive enthusiasm and a slippery grip on reality, the Lollipop Patrol are here to demonstrate and share its skills. Helping and hindering, fluorescent and effervescent, the 64th emergency service, the luminous hand of the law, they are a veritable flurry of fluoro. The company specialise in all forms of urban movement and Physical Theatre.They produce pieces of dance Theatre for alfresco Events as well as professional Theatre stages. They thrive on creating narrative dance theatre with their varied collective of artists, and also compete nationally with a record of championship winnings. Watch out for FY Wingz surprise performances in the Junk Yard throughout the day.
THE WINDMILL PLAYERS STEP BACK IN TRAM The Windmill Players is a multi award winning amateur dramatic society based in Thornton-Cleveleys, Lancashire who are celebrating their 70th anniversary. For SpareParts they have created a site specific interactive audience experience on a static tram to delight fans new and seasoned. Make sure you see these legends in the flesh in this tailor made Tram Sunday spectacle. Performances all day.

They will be helping to encourage the young people to develop basic circus skills. Pocoloco will be bringing a range of drums, symbols and percussion instruments. They will be teaching basic percussion and drumming skills which may be applied in the parade. Years ago there were many creatures who swam in the seas in Fleetwood Bay. They swam with the ferries and guided them across the Irish sea. They moved with the trawlers and helped the fishermen fill their nets. They lingered in the bay to help anyone who got lost at sea.Over the years
the mermaids and sea creatures left Fleetwood and moved away. Apart from one. Storytelling performance which takes place inside the Gazebo, lasts 15 minutes and runs every hour at 30 mins past the hour. Performances 10:30pm, 11:30pm, 12:30pm and 2:30pm Show will last approx 15 minutes. Maximum 15 children.

SUPER SCRAP RACE
LEVIATHAN! RAG AND BONE POCOLOCO We have given workshop sessions for hundreds of people to join in and feel the joy of playing samba rhythms, and have seen many, many band members (of all ages -from 6 to 90!) come and go. Most people who join the band have no previous musical experience. We like to think of ourselves as a ‘family’; new members have been regularly welcomed, and we bid fond farewells as people leave the band when their lives move on. We have learned and performed plenty of Brazilian-based samba rhythms (plus a few hybrids and attempts of our own!) and tried to keep our repertoire slowly evolving.

Sea Monsters! Mutant Fish! Mechanical Umbrellas! The Car Horn Organ! All this and more will be unveiled as Rag and Bone present a life affirming delirium of dream and a whirlwind of joyful noise. Leviathan combines eccentric human powered vehicles and kinetic contraptions, live brass musicians and performers in a highly energetic, animated procession that reaches out to draw the audience into its chaotic and charming world.

PARTICIPATION GROUPS For the 3rd edition of SpareParts the team have been keen to focus on community inclusion and building skills and abilities of local residents and emerging artists. We have been working for months in the build up to Tram Sunday and wanted to share with you some of the groups we have been working with and some of the art that has emerged. Throughout June and July four Fleetwood community members have volunteered their precious time and their means of mobility to engage with three local schools to share stories and dreams. Community members who use mobility scooters have told stories from their lives (journeys) to local school children who have then created designs based on those stories for ‘dream scooters’. Once the designs were complete the children from St Mary’s Catholic Primary, St Wulstan’s Primary, Flakefleet Primary and YMCA NCS worked with Handmade Parade to transform the scooters into spectacular super scooters with the owners driving them in the parade alongside the children who transformed them. Every Sunday from 29th May an artist from V.I.P. Puppets has been working with shoppers at Freeport Fleetwood in an open workshop using making skills to help contribute towards the ‘GIANT MERMAID’ that will be the final element of the afternoon parade. The piece is comprised of hundreds of contributions from Fleetwood residents who have creatively articulated their ‘Most Memorable Journeys’. These ‘contributions’ were integrated into the giant mobile ‘sculpture’. See if you can see your contribution to the Fleetwood Mermaid in the 3:30pm Super Scrap Race Parade. As well as collecting visual memorable journeys, the team have been collecting the voices of people from the town. All the journeys are being used to create a recurring sound installation bringing to life the voice of the people of Fleetwood. Whether it’s the first day on the bus to school or a last journey of a loved one to the church, the stories will be blasted throughout the Junk Yard Village and beyond on Tram Sunday.

In total, this year SpareParts has 14 different participation projects happening. You may notice in the Super Scrap Race (parade), that there are many new and familiar faces? Well, we are proud to have been able to support 10 emerging artists to work with Rag and Bone to learn street theatre skills which will be on display at the 3:30 Super Scrap Race. It’s not just the emerging artists who will be sharing their talents during the parade. Alphabet House are sending out a futuristic Buggie and Pram rocket inspired extravaganza from the parents and toddlers who attend the pre school, The Scouts are bringing out a massive ‘wave’ of inspiration which will carry the mermaid on her way and Tommy’s Youth Group have been working with Blackpool Circus School to create a moving display of the talent on the ground and in the air to keep the race exciting. It’s not just the parade that has been supported by the community, young people from Regenda’s West View Community Youth Group have been working with Dave Healy to create transport inspired structures that will help to bring the Junk Yard Village to life. Tram Sunday is not just one day. It’s an event that starts months before the day and has a longer lasting impact on the communities and groups who help to make the day so special.
