VODACOM MAKING AN EFFORT TO UNDERSTAND FANS Vodacom is making every effort to get a greater understanding of the likes and dislikes of South African rugby supporters to properly cater to their needs.
without spending any money but participants need to make sure they complete all six surveys to stand a chance of winning the grand prize.
Vodacom encourage fans to complete all six short surveys hosted on vodacomrugby.co.za and stand a chance of winning a once-in-alifetime trip to the 2016 Vodacom Super Rugby Final.
This national survey will enable Vodacom to produce a psycho graphic analysis of South African rugby fans.
One lucky rugby supporter that completes all six surveys can join Vodacom at the final with a partner. We will also be rewarding other lucky survey participants with two LG smartphones up for grabs in a lucky draw, after each survey. Each survey takes less time to complete than it is to score the average try in Vodacom Super Rugby. The format is an easy to use dropdown menu with multiple choice answers which only requires one click before automatically moving on. The survey is the only way for supporters to earn their spot to the final with Vodacom
We believe this survey is the biggest qualitative research of its kind in the rugby industry, as currently there is no up to date research available on Rugby consumer behaviour. We want to ensure that rugby fans get the ultimate experience both in and out of stadium, through our impressive rugby sponsorship portfolio. To stand a chance to win a trip to the Vodacom Super Rugby Final, complete the Vodacom Survey at http://www.vodacomrugby. co.za/vodacom-rugby-survey-2016/ Power to knowing the Fans. FUN AND
THE CURRIE CUP AT DIGGERS By Annemie Bester NO TASK IS too deep or too high for Diggers Rugby Club chairman Riaan Matthys to achieve and he even took hosting a Currie Cup game in his stride.
Jo is expecting the couple’s fifth child in June but that didn’t deter her from helping out at the club. Both were married before and the fifth baby will be the couple’s third together.
This businessman, who has been in the highest mine in the world and also down the deepest, could look back a job well done this past week. Diggers hosted the Currie Cup Qualifying game against the Free State Cheetahs last Saturday following the Golden Lions Rugby Union decision to take these games to the community.
Riaan was probably in two minds on Saturday. He is a born and bred Free Stater. He grew up in Bloemfontein where he started playing rugby at Under-6 level. After matriculating at HTS Louis Botha he represented the Shimlas at various levels as a utility forward, but preferred number eight.
Matthys and wife Jo worked hard to provide a day filled with rugby. As always, these two worked as a team.
Then, after completing his studies in Accountancy and furthering his studies in the field, he started his own company that does costing for mines.
DIGGERS • 12 www.lionsrugby.co.za
He travels a lot and in the process has been in the highest gold mine in the world, which is 5 200 meters up in the Andes Mountains of Chile. Riaan has also been down the deepest mine, right here in Gauteng, at Western Deep mine. Despite his hectic work and travel schedule Matthys continued playing rugby. He captained the Diggers side since he joined them in 2007. He also represented the Golden Lions Sub Union side for the last six years. With his and wife Jo’s involvement with, and love for, Diggers they moved to Randburg to be closer to the club. Matthys says he can now hit the rugby club from his backyard with a decent golf wedge shot. Diggers has consistently been one of the top clubs in the Senior Grand Challenge, beating Harlequins 44-5 in the 2015 final with their second side also winning their league and the third side and Under-20s losing their finals after hard-fought battles. Their excitement and expectations of hosting the Xerox Golden Lions XV versus the Free State Cheetahs Riaan Matthys
match was vindicated by the good attendance at the match where a fun day full of rugby made it a very special club occasion. The Currie Cup, won by the Golden Lions in 2015, was at the field and supporters were able to have their pictures taken with the Cup at no cost.

My eerste besoek aan Ellispark was saam met my Pa in 1945. Transvaal was maar altyd my ‘tweede’ span.

Elke toets, wen of verloor, was vir my ’n voorreg om by te woon. Min besef hoe lig gebou hy was.
Die wedstryd het pas begin toe ’n man by my aansluit.

My vraag was: “Waar het jy gesit?”
Hy was dodelik!
My naam is Theuns Briers.”
