Looking for the focus through first and second hand research
fig.3-5 fig.1
According to my major project proposal, the first step is to go through the love theory from the scientific point of view.
3-
After the project, I realize that the theory of love may not completely relevant to my final work and I might spend a bit too much time on this. However, I consider this as an inevitable path for me to get to get through that main concept of my project. And the other important value about discovers the biological fact of love is that it provides another rational perspective.
fig.2
EXPRESS VOLERABLILITY AND CURIOSITY LEVELS UP INTIMACY
fig.6-9
I had very strong interest on one of the element of the triangular theory of love which is intimacy. And this talk show they transfer the theory of express vulnerability and curiosity levels up intimacy among couples. What they do is make a bunch of question and let the couple interview each other, like a talk show. It's a simple concept but yet very powerful. Anyway isn't this very normal? 'Talking' is what everybody do, and how should I make it different and fun? In this case, this is an experiment to test out the theory and those people were in a live show. My explanation is that I have to create something some scenario that would allow people to get bounding naturally.
4-
At the beginning of the research, I watch many romantic films to look for the visual inspiration, try to investigate the secret of intimacy and the space that happen among those love birds. I was very enjoying the process, but sadly I didn't get out much of it.

However, it turns out after the survey investigation Mass media might have something to do with enforcing the wrong concept of love in real life. And it turns out the main focus in my final project.

Big step on looking for the main concept The reason of doing this survey is to investigate the attitude of love and hopefully to get some intimacy bounding stories. I collect many wonderful stories and what love is to those participants, it was a pleasure process of doing this survey. After evaluated the data and the information, there are several questions comes up and interesting foundings.

E X P E R I M E N T Start to visualize and utilize the information I found
6At the same time doing the field of study and research the knowledge I also needed to produce something visually that could help me thinking. I have tried sketches, manipulate some photographs I took and did some collage. As a result, those images are actual couldn't give me any inspiration, there is no focus and the most important thing is that people can get anything from my images. At that time, I know what my problem is I haven't figured out my messages was. I am not quite sure about how and what should I communicate. But at lease the good things about this is I then know simply demonstrate the illustration of couples being intimate might not be my approach in this project. So I can even more sure that using the perspective of finding what movie and massive media effect on us are the directions I could go into.

Main focus of the project
I feel like betraying my passion about romantic movies when I first started to look into this topic. We all love films and TV, and we kind of know that what they perform might affect on us.
8-
But it is I didn't give it a thought about how that concept actually changes or affect our attitude or behavior towards love. There are several articles from UK and US from 2002 to 2013 talking about many concept and unrealistic expectation from those Hollywood romantic movie or romantic comedy. From the articles many therapist or psychologist says that many problem that in the couples they have this concept of if they are the right one for each other then everything should be easy to work out such as sex or communication. In other words, everything has to be perfect. One interesting fact is that there aren't many reports or much research on how romantic movies effect us in Taiwan. It gives me more reason that I should demonstrate this kind of awareness since in my generation we all grow up in Hollywood movie and countless dramatic romantic love scenes.

Start planning out for my very first board game
10I had an inspiration from the 3D glasses from those 3D movies. Maybe use that as a way to have the link with my concept. There would be two trails with tow different colours let's say red and blue. The one who wear red glass would eliminate the red trail, and the one wear the blue ones would do the blue part.
And I was planning that screen print might be a good media. Here is a good image from gripface studio. fig.16
11-
Here is my first draft of my board game tried to use the concept of the glasses. I create those images are created from the answers of my survey. And there are many problems within this first try. It lacks of consistency and no central focus of this board game. And no visually attractive. I think people might not get what I want to communicate easily.

Chance to get construction feedback and suggestion
It was a very good chance to reflect and organize my own thoughts at that time. I have to really understand why and what am I doing with this in order to explain my idea and concept, and best about it is I usually can get to find the blind spot by talking or having discussion with other people. And I got many useful suggestions such as making sculptures or dolls as the chess that players and hold, and making a story for the board. A game with the story not only can help me create the scene and drawn people into the game more. But I just need to make sure it's a simple story that relate to my subject. During this session, I realize that board game has been used as a format previously and the results were not very good. I know that Board game is something not illustration student usually would choose as a format, but from what I've learned from the previous module that let the project and concept tell me the format may have more possibilities to break through. And I do want to try new approach even though I have to take the risk that I might fail.

Reference and research on board game Monopoly is the one that would come up to my mind when I think of board game, I quite like the idea of taking cards when player land on the specific square. And those card would give you a situation or giving instruction. I utilize this idea and put it into my design.

fig.19
Senet is the oldest board game in the world found in Egyp 3100 BC. And Go is the oldest one in Chinese. But I can't find any relevant design point to my concept and it's not the point to create a new game not even mention something intelligent in this short period of time.
Tutor mentioned about this game being funny because the players would be able to interact with each others when they go ahead the others. And that makes laughter. So it's a great element when I am designing my chess. To let them do something or interact with each other.

Here is some modern board game design, in order to have a successful board game the very first step is to make it visually attractive, these examples demonstrate the good colour combination. And there are more lovely illustration elements other then old fashion ones.

Main concept / Style
We usually afraid of something we don’t know or understand, so I link those concept with the mysterious monsters just like adults would use monsters stories to giving children a sense of waring of the bad consequences. The idea style of the illustration and images want to create a contract, even the name of the game is Amour Island but it’s lower saturation and scary atmosphere that give a different image that would raise the curiosity of the audience and want to play with it.
