ABERBARGOED

The Allotment in Aberbargoed Her Taid claps his hands. ‘Well done cariad.’ She stands laughing, holding the large vegetable as if it were a trophy. It starts to drizzle. The sky darkens. ‘Come on my lovely, let’s go home.’

He takes her hand. She knows when they get home her Nanna will praise her for helping him. She imagines the cabbage on the plate, along with the Welsh lamb and gravy. She walks quickly, trying to keep up with his long strides.
