MAYOR’S MESSAGE Exciting times ahead with $28m upgrade of Light Horse Park Liverpool is on the cusp of an exciting and colourful era with details announced of a $28 million upgrade of inner-city Light Horse Park and three additional community festivals for next year. Turning Light Horse Park into a recreational area for community use, utilising the Georges River, will begin next year using funding from the State Government financial arm, WestInvest. Council will also stage three exciting new festivals next year, highlighting colourful celebrations of the exotic cultures of Africa, Latin America, and the Pacific Islands. Meanwhile your Council continues its Back to Basics promise to residents of hiring more staff to cope with potholes and fixing road problems caused by the wild weather.

Bigge Park in Liverpool was a two-minute silent sanctuary of remembrance on November 11 for the annual tribute to Australia’s fallen soldiers in battle grounds around the world.

Mayor Ned Mannoun, joined by Liverpool City councillors and a host of distinguished guests, veterans, and army personnel, paid their respects at the Liverpool RSL sub branch Remembrance Day ceremony. The traditional two-minute silence on the 11th hour of the 11th month was also observed at the ceremony by children from Prestons Early Education and Care Centre and Hinchinbrook Early Education and Care centre, who laid handmade wreaths on the war memorial.

Light Horse Park to be a “water wonderland”
Sky high plan to welcome in new year Liverpool skies will light up in spectacular fashion from fireworks displays coordinated over six suburbs to usher in 2023. Council is again staging its New Year’s Eve “Light Up The Skies” pageant, promising this year will be even more colourful and exciting than last year. To farewell 2022 and welcome in 2023, six suburbs across the Liverpool LGA will join in a sevenminute display of fireworks from 9pm.

Light Horse Park in inner-city Liverpool will be transformed into a water wonderland after a $28 million upgrade that will include a community hub and utilise the adjacent Georges River. “It will be the envy of every other community in the south west,” said a buoyant Liverpool Mayor Ned Mannoun. “The park will be an ideal place for families to come and relax and enjoy the river.”
Work on the project, which is funded by the NSW Government’s WestInvest program, will begin next year.
The suburbs chosen as central cities for the display are West Hoxton, Prestons, Sadleir, Moorebank, Casula and Hammondville. The Liverpool display will be visible to much of the community from their driveways.
The upgrade is the first major project in Council’s long-term plans to improve access to the under-utilised Georges River and Chipping Norton Lake.
“It will be another great celebration of a new year beginning and the opportunities it will bring for everyone,” said Liverpool mayor Ned Mannoun.
Council is awaiting the outcome of an additional 21 WestInvest applications for infrastructure funding in Liverpool.

Customer Experience closes 1pm Friday 23 December, returning Tuesday 3 January. For all Liverpool City Library branches the last day of operation will be normal business hours Friday 23 December. They will reopen Tuesday 3 January (The main Liverpool Library branch will be open from 9.30am – 5pm on Wednesday 28 to Friday 30 December).

Parents wanting to keep their children entertained and away from computer screens during the school holidays could try Schoeffel Park at Horningsea Park as a diversion. It’s home to one of the biggest pump tracks in Australia and is already delighting a host of BMX riders and other cyclists. Installation of the pump track was part of a $2.2 million makeover of Schoeffel Park into one of the most modern and appealing recreational centres in Sydney’s south west. The new amenities available in the enlarged area include: • Family picnic areas with table settings and shelter • Imaginative children’s play area • Fitness equipment for exercising.
Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre’s last day of operation is Thursday 22 December. It will reopen on Tuesday 3 January. Liverpool Regional Museum’s last day of operation will be Friday 23 December. It reopens on Tuesday 3 January. Childcare’s last day of operation will be normal business hours Friday 23 December, with staff returning Tuesday 10 January. Casula Preschool’s final day is Tuesday 20 December. Staff return on Friday 27 January. Community Recycling Centre’s closed Sunday 25 December to Tuesday 27 December, and Sunday 1 January to Monday 2 January. It reopens from Tuesday 3 January. Bin collections will operate as normal as Christmas and New Year fall on a weekend.
