SPRING 2018
ATTENTION NINJA WARRIORS: NEW PLAYGROUND FOR CASULA Casula Parklands is set to be transformed into South West Sydney’s most exciting adventure playground, with an 8-metre tall Sky Walk, tunnel slide, flying fox and ninja obstacle course. Construction of the $4m project near Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre will begin in late September 2018. “I’m so excited about this development – this will be the best adventure playground ever built in Liverpool,” Mayor Wendy Waller said. “Not only is this great news for the residents of Casula, but people will come from miles around to enjoy it.” The 15-hectare site along the Georges River will also include an off-leash dog park, sculpture walk, picnic facilities, accessible play area, toilet facilities and off-road parking.

WHITE RIBBON FOR COUNCIL Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller is immensely proud that Liverpool City Council has been accredited as a White Ribbon Workplace. “Council has taken active steps to stop violence in the home, has started a program of staff training and adopted a domestic violence leave policy,” she said.

Liverpool City Council joins 169 workplaces across Australia to achieve accreditation by making a commitment to stop domestic violence and strengthen a culture of respect and gender equality.
DEALING WITH PROBLEM WASTE
Did you know that Council’s Community Recycling Centre diverts hundreds of tonnes of problem waste from landfill each year? Last financial year more than 18,000 residents visited the centre, with 410 tonnes of problem waste collected. The centre accepts cardboard, e-waste, fluoro globes and tubes, gas bottles and fire extinguishers, batteries, ink cartridges, mobile phones, oils, paints, polystyrene, smoke detectors and X-rays.

LIVERPOOL REMEMBERS 1918-2018
The Centenary of Armistice is just around the corner and Council will be hosting a range of free events to commemorate this momentous occasion. There will be a Freedom of Entry Parade by the Corps of the Royal Australian Engineers through the streets of Liverpool CBD on Sunday 4 November 2018. The following week, on 11 November, the church bells will ring out across Liverpool to celebrate 100 years since the end of World War One with an exciting community celebration in Bigge Park. For details, visit www.liverpool.nsw. gov.au/community/liverpool-remembers
It’s free and operates from 7am to 3pm Monday to Saturday at 99 Rose Street, Liverpool. Visit www.liverpool.nsw.gov.au.
MIDDLETON GRANGE COMMUNITY FORUM

Council is hosting a community information night so residents can discuss developments in Middleton Grange, including the proposal for the Middleton Grange town centre. The land for the planned town centre, adjacent to Middleton Grange Public School, is owned by a private developer. Council has received a proposal from
the developer which includes residential apartments and a large shopping centre. The proposal is on public exhibition until 26 October and the community forum will be held from 6.30-8.30pm at Thomas Hassall Anglican College on Monday 17 September. Fully accessible venue. All are welcome.
THANK YOU TO ALL OUR VOLUNTEERS More than 100 local volunteers were presented with certificates of appreciation at the annual Gift of Time ceremony at Liverpool Catholic Club on 8 August 2018. The Gift of Time is Council’s way of recognising local volunteers who regularly demonstrate acts of kindness.

Council is saving more than $800,000 by building a major new road with recycled road materials. More than 20,000 tonnes of old road base and asphalt will be used for the Bernera Road extension in Edmondson Park.
COUNCIL SAVES $800,000 BY USING RECYCLED ROAD MATERIALS
“Council will save on costs by recycling the material for the extension instead of spending money to buy newly quarried material,” Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller said. “Council will also save money in disposal costs by reusing the old road material gathered from different streets within the Liverpool area and not having it sent to landfill.” Council has also been working closely with Sydney Water to reduce the cost of installing 1.6km of water main pipe along Bernera Rd.
