SUMMER 2018

CENTENARY OF ARMISTICE COMMEMORATIONS Thousands of people took part in a memorable series of events organised by Liverpool City Council to commemorate the 100th anniversary of the end of the First World War. Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller said she was very moved when, at 11am on Sunday, the 11th of November all the church bells in Liverpool rang out to celebrate the day the guns fell silent in 1918.

“That moment summed up a 10-day program in which we invited reflection, but also celebrated peace,” Mayor Waller said.

Mayor Waller said Liverpool has a proud military history, with a strong Defence community at Holsworthy, but is also a peaceful place where 150 cultures share common values of respect, acceptance and compassion.

SOMEWHERE NEW TO BEAT THE HEAT Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller has officially opened the new $400,000 Water Play Splash Park at the Michael Wenden Aquatic Leisure Centre.

The circular splash park, which took six months to design and build, is for young children and toddlers and has many fun features, including splash blasters and tower sprays. “The children of the Miller community now have their very own aquatic facility so they can enjoy playing with water in a safe environment just in time for the warmer months,” Mayor Waller said.
