AUTUMN 2018

FUN FOR ALL AGES Liverpool City Council has invested $8.9m this year improving our bushland, parks and sporting facilities, including building state-of-the-art playgrounds and outdoor gyms. “Council looks after more than 500 parks, sports fields, walkways and cycle ways, but with our population growing at almost 100 new residents a week, it’s more important than ever that we make the most of our open spaces,” said Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller. “In the last 12 months we have built new playgrounds at Aubrey Keech Reserve in Hinchinbrook, Haigh Park in Chipping Norton, Varley Park in Prestons, Wheat Park in Sadlier, and many other locations.” “Our new playgrounds have been designed to be fun for kids of all ages and include climbing walls, swings, rubber safety surfaces, shade sails and solar lighting. Many have outdoor gym equipment too.

WORM YOUR WAY INTO A GREENER LIFE Liverpool City Council is offering a $50 rebate for any compost bin or worm farm you purchase. When you throw your kitchen food scraps and garden waste into a compost bin or worm-farm (instead of your red-lidded bin), you are not only helping the environment but producing some fantastic, nutrient-rich fertiliser which can be used to make your garden bloom. All your food and garden waste (except meat and dairy products) can be composted at home. Composting and worm farming are easy to do and Council is making it even easier for you by offering residents a $50 rebate on a compost bin or worm farm you purchase. We also have free worm farming and composting workshops – the next workshop is on Thursday 15 March 2018, 6pm-7pm at Liverpool Library. To claim your rebate or book your place in a workshop, visit www.liverpool.nsw.gov.au or call 1300 36 2170.

KEEPING OUR WATERWAYS CLEAN A new pollutant trap at Brickmakers Creek will stop plastic bottles, garbage and stormwater runoff from entering our waterways. Council built the trap at Amalfi Park, Lurnea, to keep Brickmakers Creek free of pollutants. The waterway is a tributary of Cabramatta Creek, which flows through Casula, Lurnea and Liverpool.

LOOKING AFTER THE GEORGES RIVER Council has constructed a new seawall at Davy Robinson Reserve, Moorebank, to help maintain the banks of the Georges River. Council teamed up with NSW Roads and Maritime Services to replace the seawall, backfill the soil and upgrade the drainage. The existing carpark was also resurfaced.
