LIFE SPRING 2017
COUNCIL BUILDS FOR THE FUTURE Liverpool City Council is getting on with the job of building and maintaining its parks and public spaces which are such great assets for the community. “It’s a massive part of Council’s commitment to the community – and we can enjoy the benefits across the city,” said Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller. “In August I opened a major upgrade to Miller Park, with new exercise equipment, play and relaxation spaces, which has already been embraced by the community.
“In October we’re opening Bigge Park, which will be an outstanding green space in the heart of the city, as well as the upgraded Macquarie Mall. “With our population continuing to grow, Council will take the lead in providing these valuable outdoor spaces.” Mayor Waller promised Council is determined to do more, with work commencing next year on new sports fields, playgrounds and picnic facilities at Cirillo Reserve, Middleton Grange.
10,000 EXTRA AIRPORT JOBS
Liverpool workers will have the first crack at building and staffing Western Sydney Airport (WSA), the minister responsible for building the airport has promised. Minister for Urban Infrastructure Paul Fletcher has promised ‘ambitious employment targets for local workers’.
“That’s exactly the news many people in Liverpool will have been waiting to hear,” said Mayor Waller. “The airport is being built in our backyard; it’s great to hear that the men and women of Liverpool will build it and run it.” See over for more on the jobs boom.

“A modern priority bus service could get workers to the airport in 25 minutes and is the best solution as the airport is built and begins operation,” said Mayor Waller. “Council also wants the Leppington spur extended to WSA to link the airport to the city’s rail system.” 25-minute trip from Liverpool CBD to the new Western Sydney Airport

LIVERPOOL’S HEALTHY FUTURE Liverpool’s bright future as the centre for Health, Education and Research in the Great South West has been recognised in a major report from economic consultants PwC, released in August. With three universites, two hospitals and a research facility close together, Greater Sydney Commissioner Lucy Turnbull praised Liverpool’s potential to develop as a walkable city, with employment, health and education opportunities.
Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller said the report shows just how rich Liverpool is in opportunity. “Someone can be born here in one of our world class hospitals, go through their entire education here and find fulfilling work – all in Liverpool,” she said. “Council is working to ensure the entire community benefits from the exciting changes we’re seeing in our city.”
