Liverpool City Council’s most exciting adventure playground, Casula Parklands, is open for business and it’s already the talk of South West Sydney. Happy families enjoyed delicious free food, live music and all the delights of the $4 million state-ofthe-art playground on a spectacular opening day.

The Parklands is already established as a must-visit spot with the worldclass Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre, a ninja training course and off-leash dog parks for large dogs and small dogs.

“Council staff have worked tirelessly to bring the dream of Casula Parklands to life, and watching our community embrace it is such a great reward for all their hard work,” Mayor Wendy Waller said. Feedback was universally glowing as children clambered over the eightmetre-high Sky Walk, whizzed down the tunnel slide, raced each other on

services and amenities our residents will need to live and thrive here,” Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller said.

Council will add 250 spaces at Woodward Park. A shuttle bus service will transport commuters from Woodward Park to the CBD.

Design work for the new parking has begun and work is due to start in coming months.

“Council is committed to ensuring Liverpool’s rise is accompanied by the

Council also approved additional car parking at 68 Speed Street in the CBD. This site provides for a further 100 spaces.

COOL IDEAS FOR A SHADY FUTURE Finding out which trees provide the best protection from summer heat is a key part of Liverpool City Council’s plan for a greener future.

Petrie said. “We know that street trees cool a city in summer, but we don’t know whether some species are better than others.

Manager City Design and Public Domain David Petrie has attached temperature sensors to 15 trees around the Liverpool CBD.

“Through this experiment, we hope to find out if factors like leaf size and density make a difference to the temperature drop.”

“I am measuring the cooling abilities of different tree species,”

The results will be used to help select the best trees to plant.

A WINNING PLACE TO BE Woodward Place is set to become a regional destination in the heart of Liverpool, with open space, sport and recreation facilities and high-quality mixed-use development. Liverpool City Council has announced a shortlist of nine firms invited to submit ideas for a master plan to transform Woodward Park into a hub for community life. The winning designer will produce a 20 to 30-year master plan to transform Woodward Park into Woodward Place as Liverpool grows. A preliminary concept design is expected by the end of the year.

PLANNER FOR A DAY Council is always interested to hear from residents about their vision for Liverpool’s future and who better to ask for advice than those most affected – our youngest citizens. Children from Holsworthy Early Education and Care Centre got some hands-on planning experience using Lego blocks when they visited Council offices recently. The children also provided some of the most creative responses to Council’s Local Environmental Plan Review with some delightful drawings. An online survey completed by 459 people identified the top five priorities for Liverpool’s future as being clean, green, safe, sustainable and vibrant.

Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller said the results will help inform Council’s 30-year vision for Liverpool – the Local Strategic Planning Statement.

LOVE LIVERPOOL

The Love Liverpool campaign launches at the Liverpool Growers and Foodies Market on Saturday 15 June, Child’s Park, Ascot Drive, Chipping Norton, featuring Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre, Liverpool Regional Museum, Georges River Environmental Education Centre, Liverpool City Archers and free family entertainment.

ROAD EXTENSION OPENS Edmondson Park residents are enjoying quicker, easier travel through their suburb thanks to the newly opened Bernera Road Extension. The Bernera Road Extension project involved the reconstruction and widening of a 1.35km stretch of Croatia Avenue between Camden Valley Way and Edmondson Park train station. The new four-lane road provides fast, easy access through Edmondson Park to the train station. “The completion of the Bernera Road Extension marks a key milestone in realising Council’s vision for Edmondson Park,” Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller said.

Council is launching its Love Liverpool campaign, aimed at making sure locals are aware of the gems in their own backyard.

FESTIVAL OF FESTIVALS Liverpool has developed a wellearned reputation for hosting spectacular events and 2019 has only enhanced its credentials.

Those looking for a more glamorous, adult affair – and a way to support a good cause – should mark Saturday, 21 September in their calendars.

The latest festival, Liverpool On A Roll, became an instant smash-hit when more than 10,000 people turned up to Greenway Park, West Hoxton in April.

This year’s Liverpool City Council Charity Ball at the William Inglis Hotel will raise funds for the Ingham Institute of Applied Medical Research.

Organisers were thrilled by the response to the inaugural food festival, which featured a host of dishes ‘on a roll’ from banh mi and bao to burgers and burritos.

For details, see www.liverpool.nsw.gov.au/ charityball

In July the Way Out West Festival returns to the Casula Powerhouse Arts Centre, with a packed program of arts and events for young people.

And if you’re still hungry after all that great food, leave a little room for the Eat Your Heart Out festival, coming to Norfolk Serviceway, Liverpool on 31 August.

COUNCIL MEETINGS

Most Council Meetings are held on the last Wednesday of the month at the Francis Greenway Centre, 170 George Street, Liverpool, starting at 6pm. For a full list of Council Meeting dates for 2019 please visit Council’s website.
