SPRING 2019

IT’S TIME TO EAT YOUR HEART OUT Eat Your Heart Out Liverpool will light up Norfolk Serviceway on Saturday 31 August with live music, art and culture and, of course, amazing food. Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller said this year’s food truck line-up includes returning favourites like Dirty Bird, Lambda and a pop-up bar from Macquarie Bistro alongside stalls from Indian Taste Liverpool, Al Israa Lebanese Sweets and other local restaurants and food outlets. ARIA-nominated Liverpool hip-hop artist L-FRESH The LION headlines an awesome list of performers brought together by Settlement Services International (SSI) – an organisation dedicated to helping newly arrived migrants settle in to life in Australia.

Ox King is creating a brand new mural on the site, and Sydney artist Melissa Carey’s giant heart sculpture Open Heart is the centrepiece of the festival. “Set your taste buds tingling with food from around the globe, including a range of Sydney’s best food trucks alongside popup-shops from local favourites,” Mayor Waller said. “I look forward to celebrating with Liverpool and beyond.”

TAKING OFF WITH MINECRAFT CONTEST We have a winner! An expert judging panel has chosen McCallums Hill Public School as the winner of the 2019 Western Sydney Airport Minecraft Competition.

It was Council’s second annual competition and we had $40,000 in prize money thanks to Gold Sponsors Western Sydney Airport.

“I’m very proud that we are empowering the next generation to design their own futures,” Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller said. “Congratulations to all the finalists and watch this space for an even bigger competition next year.”

VOYAGER POINT COMMUNITY CENTRE PARKING IN CBD Liverpool City Council has introduced Pay By Plate in the CBD, making parking easier than ever. Pay By Plate parking means no tickets are required. Councillors Geoff Shelton, Peter Harle and Karress Rhodes, Mayor Wendy Waller, Councillors Nathan Hagarty and Charishma Kaliyanda, and Community Recreation Manager Mark Westley.

Voyager Point Community Centre has reopened with a new function room for 50 people and timber flooring, a kitchen and bathrooms. “Council staff and contractors have done such a wonderful job restoring this special building,” Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller said.

“We couldn’t be happier with the result – and we know the community will love it too.” Council is calling for community groups and interested parties who wish to hire the centre to contact the Customer Service Centre on 1300 36 2170.

To pay, simply enter your car’s number plate in the meter then pay by cash or card, note the expiry time and you’re OK to go. Fifteen minutes free parking is still available in the CBD but motorists will now be required to enter their number plate into the meter to qualify rather than displaying a ticket.

RIGHT HEAR, RIGHT NOW

CARNES HILL STAGE 2 Liverpool City Council will begin planning Stage 2 of the Carnes Hill Community and Recreation Precinct with a 50m pool, a water play park, two multi-use sports fields and two multi-use basketball courts under consideration.

Hearing loops are now available to help hearingimpaired people take part in meetings at Liverpool City Library. The loops transmit audio signals directly to hearing aids, reducing background noise and vastly improving sound quality.

LIVO

#LoveLivo Nights is a new pop-up event series designed to enhance the city’s cultural landscape and provide people with a unique after-work experience. On the first Thursday of every month, working professionals, residents, students and visitors can experience a pop-up bar, delicious food and live music in a new laneway setting within our growing city centre.

The events are a great opportunity to mingle with colleagues and friends, while also allowing Council to partner with local businesses so they can trial new menu ideas and extended trading hours. Visit www.liverpool.nsw.gov.au/ lovelivonights for event details. #LoveLivo Nights is funded by the NSW Government.

GENEROSITY DAY Liverpool City Council staff are donating thousands of hours of volunteer work to community groups through Council’s new Generosity Day initiative. Generosity Day allows Council staff to complete a one-day volunteer placement at a Liverpool community group each year. Council CEO Kiersten Fishburn (pictured) recently spent a day volunteering at Lifeline, while other staff have devoted days to Liverpool Community Kitchen & Hub, Miracle Babies and Liverpool Volunteer Resource Centre.

A master plan will be prepared and presented to councillors by February 2020. “The Carnes Hill Community and Recreation Precinct is a world-class community facility and Council is looking forward to making it even better,” said Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller.

AUSTRALIA DAY AWARDS It’s time to nominate local citizens and groups for the 2020 Australia Day Awards. Categories include Citizen of the Year, Young Citizen of the Year, Senior Citizen of the Year and Fraser Environment Award. Nominations close on Tuesday 10 September 2019. YOUR SAY ON OUR FUTURE Thank you to everyone who provided feedback on Connected Liverpool 2050, Council’s draft Local Strategic Planning Statement during the six-week consultation period. Council staff held 20 engagement sessions, collected more than 500 surveys and received 640 Big Ideas. The feedback will help inform Liverpool’s plan for the future.

SIMPLY TREE-MENDOUS! National Tree Day just keeps getting bigger – about 300 people turned out to help plant trees at Brownes Farm Reserve in Hoxton Park on 28 July. Their hard work led to 1300 native plants going into the ground, helping to rehabilitate the bushland and provide habitat for wildlife.

COUNCIL MEETINGS

“National Tree Day is always one of the highlights of our community calendar,” Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller said. “This year was the best yet and we’re already planning for an even bigger, better event next year.”

Most Council Meetings are held on the last Wednesday of the month at the Francis Greenway Centre, 170 George Street, Liverpool, starting at 6pm. For a full list of Council Meeting dates for 2019 please visit Council’s website.
