BREAKING GROUND AT CIVIC PLACE
“Liverpool Civic Place will anchor and activate the southern end of the Liverpool city centre, providing new public spaces, community facilities and job opportunities for our growing city.”
‘Start demolition!’ With these words Liverpool Mayor Wendy Waller set the wheels in motion for work to begin on Council’s most ambitious project to date Liverpool Civic Place.
Built Managing Director Brett Mason said: “This project will provide job creation and employment training opportunities. We estimate that at the peak of construction we will have 350 workers on site, of which 30 roles will be new construction industry graduates and apprentices.”

The Mayor joined senior representatives from Built including managing director Brett Mason to get works under way. “This important community facility, constructed in partnership between Liverpool City Council and Built, is one of the most significant projects in our city’s history,” Mayor Waller said.
Liverpool Civic Place will consist of a public plaza and city library, new Council offices and chambers, a childcare centre and underground parking. Demolition and excavation works are expected to finish in mid 2021 with project completion planned for early 2023.

GETTING ON WITH THE JOB Coronavirus did not stop our Infrastructure and Environment team. Council opened Apex Park in November following a $1.9 million upgrade. Works to build the Stante Reserve Waterplay Park in Middleton Grange
are well under way with a forecast completion of March 2021. Other major works include the $16.2 million redevelopment of Lurnea Community Hub - Phillips Park which will be part funded with $13.2 million from the Western Sydney City Deal Liveability Program; and construction of the $9 million Cirillo Sporting Facility in Middleton Grange - expected to be completed by the end of the year.

GREENING LIVERPOOL
Council’s Bush Regeneration Team planted more than 2700 trees and shrubs in parks in the Liverpool Local Government Area during coronavirus restrictions. Around 400 native shrubs and trees were planted at Woodside Park, 360 at Joshua Moore Park and almost 2000 native plants at Fassifern Park. Tree planting reduces climatic extremes, improves air quality and

bushland such as the kei apple found growing in the Austral and Kemps Creek;
provides habitat for birds and other wildlife. Help protect Liverpool’s natural biodiversity by: •
Replacing non-native plants with native species;

Taking away your rubbish when visiting parks and open spaces;

Reporting and eradicating pest plants that pose a risk to native
•
Volunteering with Council’s Environment groups;
•
Keeping pet cats inside (or contained in a secure environment); and

Purchasing food from sustainably responsible growers.
