How you can help In Harmony Liverpool inspires confidence, hope and pride in children and their communities.

Liverpool Philharmonic has been working with schools and the community through its orchestral programme since the 1940s. Today, we make a positive difference to the lives of over 20,000 children and young people through music each year. School children have the opportunity to hear a full symphony orchestra performing a concert designed just for them.

Our Youth Company musicians have access to the highest quality musical training and performance experiences.

“I have worked here since 1971, and In Harmony has been an inspirational success in raising standards and aspirations within children, young people and families.”

“Without In Harmony, I would never have got into uni and got a degree.”

“It’s given me the opportunity to meet new people, develop life skills and grow more confidence. It helped me to focus and know what I want to do with my life and feel able to do it… It changed me.”

Love Music: From the First Note

Children are at the heart of everything Liverpool Philharmonic does. 'Love Music: From the First Note' is a campaign in support of Schools' Concerts, In Harmony Liverpool and Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Company. With your help, we can achieve even more, reaching out to more young people, more families and more schools. Children and young people have been disproportionately affected by the challenges of the Covid 19 pandemic. We know firsthand that our activities support children’s mental health, and help build confidence, pride and skills to help children live happier, healthier lives, with improved employability and broadened horizons.

With your support, we will ensure all children can make music with Liverpool Philharmonic, regardless of their financial situation.

In Harmony Liverpool

Schools’ Concerts

In Harmony Liverpool uses orchestral music-making to improve the life chances of children.

The thrill of hearing a live orchestra is often the spark that ignites a lifelong love of music.

Every week, over 1,500 children learn an orchestral instrument, sing, compose, perform in orchestras, (both in and out of school), and play at major concert venues, including Liverpool Philharmonic Hall.

Each year, more than 18,000 children take part in our annual Schools’ Concerts. Your support enables us to offer greatly reduced ticket prices, so the experience is affordable for everyone.

In Harmony is targeted at children with the greatest need and fewest resources – over 40% of In Harmony children are classed as living in poverty. With your support, we will increase our reach to 1,750 children by 2024, focusing on additional investment in teenagers. This activity will revitalise their musical development, encouraging pathways to further education and employment.

“In Harmony has been a light in dark times. It is the oxygen we need.” Community Leader

“Thank you for the whole experience. We look forward to the concert every year. It is expertly run - from the initial booking, the staff training sessions and the scheme of work, to the amazing concert at the end. It is a highlight of the year for both my class, our TA and myself.”

Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Company From our Youth Orchestra and Choirs, to our Music Industry Careers days, apprenticeship programmes and work with young composers, nurturing talent is a responsibility that we take very seriously. To ensure the broadest range of opportunity for our 500 Youth Company musicians, we are creating new ensembles including a new cambiata choir for young male voices, a brass band and session bands, so our musicians can experience playing music from every genre. With your help we will offer 100% bursaries to everyone who needs assistance, enabling children from all backgrounds to achieve their musical potential.
