Music to bring the whole family together

We’re excited to share what’s coming up for families at Liverpool Philharmonic over the next year. We have a super selection of concerts featuring our full symphony orchestra which will set the imagination free, as well as exciting film screenings too! There is plenty for children and young people to enjoy – and the grown-ups can even join in as well.

The Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra can’t wait to see you all at our Family Concerts again. Our musicians will bring you a haunting Halloween spooktacular, take a musical journey into outer space, go on an adventure with Gaspard the friendly fox and of course, Father Christmas himself will drop in on our Singalong with Santa concerts. Remember, fancy dress is always strongly Inspireencouraged!your littlest ones with our Under-5s concerts. Fun and informal, these popular concerts are the perfect way to introduce the youngest of audiences to the magic of music.

Did you know that our Learning programmes offer exciting opportunities for children aged 7-18 to get involved in live music-making, providing a whole range of activities for thousands of young people every year? From our young Melody Makers to the Liverpool Philharmonic Youth Company, there really is something for everyone.

Come along in your devilish disguises and hear the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra at their spookiest and spine-chilling best. This family concert combines the creepiest classics with a gruesome mix of haunting Halloween music from films, television and video games, including: ‘This is Halloween’ (from The Nightmare before Christmas), ‘Remember Me’ (from Coco), Grieg’s In the Hall of the Mountain King, music from Doctor Who, and of course, Ghostbusters. Concerts last approximately one hour, and are designed with children in mind, with lots of tunes that you’ll be familiar with. They are most suitable for children aged 4-10, but the whole family is welcome to join in!

Perfect for families with children aged 7+. Our seasonal treat of festive music and classic carols, Spirit of Christmas, will quickly become an annual family tradition. For Kadiatu Kanneh-Mason, Christmas is a “glorious hurly-burly”. It’s a time for family, so who better to host our annual celebration than the inspirational super-mum at the heart of Britain’s most musical family? There’ll be classic carols, audience singalongs, seasonal readings, magical surprises and a special Christmas gift from our Artist in Residence – the sensational Pacho Flores. Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra This year, the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra and Children’s Choirs have Christmas all wrapped up. This fabulously festive performance contains all the magical ingredients for the perfect family Christmas celebration. Mix together a handful of Christmas favourites such as Rudolph the Red Nosed Reindeer, Rockin’ Around the Christmas Tree and Santa Claus is Comin’ to Town, with a dollop of seasonal surprises and get ready to sing your heart out. This concert is so popular that even Santa Claus himself takes time out to come along!

Spirit of Christmas

This performance will be signed by BSL interpreter, Kate Labno. We’ll encounter some friendly, and some not-so-friendly, extraterrestrials and get caught up in some Star Wars before boldly going where no concert has ever gone before – to a party in The Planets! This concert is truly out of this world and features music from Holst’s The Planets, Star Wars, Star Trek, Super Mario Galaxy and of course, E.T.

This relaxed concert is fun and accessible for the whole family, combining brilliant music and a safe and enjoyable environment. We offer support for audiences with a range of additional needs, including physical and learning disabilities. We’ll have resources to help you prepare for the event, including music playlists and a virtual venue tour. We’ll also have easy-read materials and quiet spaces on the day.

Alongside the classic Peter and the Wolf, join Gaspard the friendly fox and his furry chums in a warm-hearted adventure performed by their creator Zeb Soanes with live on-stage painting from the series illustrator, James Mayhew. Accompanied by the Royal Liverpool Philharmonic Orchestra, this is the perfect way to introduce children to a live orchestra through images and storytelling.

The Muppets reimagine Charles Dickens’ A Christmas Carol by adding a hilarious and heartfelt touch of Muppet magic. Ebeneezer Scrooge is a wicked, cold-hearted moneylender, angered by the Christmas spirit of his colleague Bob Cratchit (played by Kermit the Frog) and those around him. However, the arrival of the ghosts of Christmases Past, Present and Future teach him to embrace the warmth and good will that comes with Christmas time.
