FOR ALL AGES! Chill Out and Read* All Month • All Ages

Keep your New Year’s resolution to read more and earn points toward prizes. Children, teens and adults can all participate by reading and completing missions and logging them online through Feb. 28. *Registration required in READsquared.

Around the World in 90 Days* All Month - All Ages

LPL will help you virtually travel the world through February and March with programs, challenges and readings related to a specific country! Look for activity packs at the beginning of each month. This month we visit Mexico. *Registration required in READsquared.

How the Food of Mexico Connects History, Culture and More!* Thursday, Feb 18 • 7pm • ZOOM

Join Le Moyne College professor Bruce Erickson as he explores the origins and meaning of various Mexican dishes, from cacao to tacos, and their significance to history, culture and ritual spread from various regions to throughout the world. *Registration required.

2021 CNY Reads One Book

This year’s title is Finding Dorothy by Elizabeth Letts. This enchanting story is told by Maud, wife of author L. Frank Baum. Readers get a look behind the timeless classic The Wonderful Wizard of Oz and how it inspired the film. For more information and events, visit cnyreads.org.

Oz Spectacular!* Friday, Feb 19 • 1:30pm • ZOOM Celebrate the beloved characters from Frank Baum’s The Wizard of Oz with crafts, coloring, trivia and more! We’re suggesting catch-up (or get-toknow) reading of Baum or this year’s CNY Reads book Finding Dorothy by Elizabeth Letts. Pick up crafts and coloring sheets with an LPL Express Visit or Grab It & Go appointment. *Registration required.

Blind Date with a Book Feb 1-Feb 14

Library staff will choose books from different genres and wrap them. They’ll be available on a random basis via an LPL Express Visit or ask for one to be included in your Grab It & Go bag. The event runs through Valentine’s Day.

Let’s Get Trivial!* Monday, Feb 1 • 7pm • ZOOM

Join the masters of information and fun, the Liverpool Public Library staff, at this monthly program designed to chase away the winter blues. This program will be held over ZOOM. Come with a friendly, competitive attitude, as well as your pencil and paper. *Registration required.

Growth Hacking a Best Seller with Liz Pelletier* Saturday, Feb 6 • noon-5pm • ZOOM

Growth what? Growth hacking is one of the hottest buzzwords in marketing today, responsible for start-up viral sensations like Dropbox, Instagram, Facebook and the original Hotmail. Black Americans, the Holocaust and Jim Crow America* Monday, Feb 8 • 7pm • ZOOM

Retired Baruch College professor Clarence Taylor will discuss the history of Black and Jewish relations in the U.S. during the 1930s and 40s, and how many Black leaders equated the persecution of Jews in Nazi Germany with Black suffering in Jim Crow America. The program is in recognition of Black History Month. *Registration required.

55+: Snowshoeing at Clark’s Reservation* Monday, Feb 22 • 2pm • Clark’s Reservation

Join Katie Mulverhill of NY State Parks as she leads a snowshoeing adventure at Clark’s Reservation, 6105 East Seneca Turnpike, Jamesville. Masks and social distancing are required. Build Your Own Terrarium* Monday, Feb 22 • 7pm • ZOOM

Tim and Lisa Ballantyne will lead a session on how to create a terrarium. A supply fee of $30 turned in at Ballantyne Gardens the week before the event gets all you need in a kit. *Registration required.

Keep Calm and Craft On* Tuesday, Feb 23 • 7pm • ZOOM

Join us for this new monthly program where we celebrate crafting! At this informal program, we invite participants to show what they have been busy creating. All kinds of crafts welcome! We will have a crafting demonstration and offer a monthly crafting challenge. Participants will have a chance to reveal their challenge creation at the next month’s meeting. *Registration required.

Armchair Adventures: Deserts of America* Thursday, Feb 25 • 1pm • ZOOM

Popular speaker Tom Henry will lead the virtual trip through the deserts of California, including the Mojave and Death Valley National Park. *Registration required.

The Gay Rights Movement in America*

The History of Blacks in Politics in Syracuse*

Join Professor Richard Price of Weber State University to learn about the history of gay rights in the United States, including protests, organizing and court decisions. Price, who holds a PhD from Syracuse University in Political Science, specializes in censorship courses at WSU, with a focus on gay censorship. *Registration required.

Learn about the significant contributions of Black Syracuse politicians from the 1960s to now, including Clarence ‘Junie’ Dunham, Sid Oglesby, Charles Anderson and Helen Hudson. Hudson, the first African American to become the president of the Syracuse Common Council, will participate. Mark Spadafore, president of the Greater Syracuse Labor Council, will lead the presentation. The program honors Black History Month. *Registration required.

What’s Cookin’: Special Edition* Monday, Feb 15 • 7pm • ZOOM

This special all-ages edition invites adults, families, teens and kids to create Mexican dishes. Send recipes to Cindy.Hibbert@LPL.org to be included in our quarantine cookbook. Chronic Disease Self-Managment Program (CPSMP)* Tuesdays • Feb 16-Mar 23 • 10am-12:30pm • ZOOM

A six-session, peer-led health program for adults 18+ with any ongoing health condition. CDSMP enhances a person’s ability to manage his/her health and maintain an active and fulfilling lifestyle. *Registration required.

Are you a fan of Percy Jackson? Whether you are a fan of the Greek Gods or the Roman Gods the YA novels of Rick Riordan speak to you. *Register for a Rick Riordan Activity Pack and pick it up on Feb. 8. Enjoy the activities on your own or save them to share with your fellow gods and goddesses at our meet up on Thursday, Feb. 18 at 1pm. *Please register each of your children separately.

Coco: Interactive Movie Packs Monday, Feb 15 • All Day

Pick up your activity pack to help you enjoy the movie Coco during February Break week. Kits include a DVD of the popular Disney Pixar tale, an interactive script and props for watching. Liverpool Explorers*

Ms. Jo will host this online event that celebrates the culture and people of Mexico. Pick up your Around the World activity kit at the beginning of the month to be ready for crafts and discoveries. *Registration required.

Weekly Zoom-based coding hangout sessions using Vidcode! We’ll learn about the programming language Javascript and experiment with filters, animations, memes and more! No coding experience necessary. Ages 10-12, but flexible based on interest and ability. *Registration required.

Still Calling For Artists: Virtual Art Expo Needs You! Do you carve, bake, sculpt, paint, sing, sew, dance, garden, weld, craft, etc.? Artists of all ages are invited to celebrate and share your talents with your community this New Year! Email the library a photo or video of your artwork to artexpo@lpl.org by March 20 to be part of the Liverpool Public Library’s Virtual Art Expo in April. Please include your age group (child, teenager or adult) name, age, title of your artwork and medium represented.

Puzzle Pickup

February and March • All Month The library will offer gently used puzzles for pick up by one-hour LPL Express Visit or Grab It & Go appointments! Puzzles have been donated. We cannot guarantee every puzzle includes all pieces. Puzzles will be quarantined for a minimum of seven days after return and before going out again.

Virtual Take Your Child to the Library Day!

Join us for the 10th Annual International Take Your Child to the Library Day! We will have virtual tours and other socially distant activities to enjoy with your child or grandchild. Check LPL.org and our social media on February 6 to join in the fun!
