This year marks the 55th year in the registered Angus business. In those 55 years, I have seen a lot of ups and downs in the cattle business. Right here today is truly an exciting time to be in the industry. This past year has seen an unprecedented cattle market and it is satisfying to see the producer being rewarded for the fruits of their labor. Investing in proven, profitable genetics is a crucial step in producing a quality product that demands a premium. Sitting at our influence calf sale last fall it was gratifying to see our customers calves bring such a premium over the market for the 5th year in a row! We feel we are offering you another outstanding set of bulls for your appraisal. They exhibit excellent performance with a very balanced profile of EPD’s. 75% of the sale bulls are below breed average for both birth weight and CED score. The beauty of the Angus breed is that no matter what your job description is for your bulls, there is an Angus bull to meet your needs: lower birth weights, explosive growth, strong carcass traits, good docility, sound feet and legs, and daughters who will possess excellent udders and breed back each year. The females in the sale are a top notch group. The spring bred heifers will be heavy in calf by sale day and will make a great set of cows. The younger fall bred heifers are a fancy set that need to be seen to be appreciated. We have 50K genomic data on a few spring bulls. Lots 47, 48, 49, 50, 51, 53, 56, 57, 59, 60 and 72 were tested with the Zoetis 50K genetic test and their EPD’s reflect those results. Any potential carrier of AM, NH and CA have been tested free. If a bull is a carrier of DD (developmental duplication) it will be noted as DDC beside his registration number. This is a simple recessive trait that is not a lethal defect. All the cattle will again be sold by a live auctioneer off the video on sale day. The cattle will be penned as usual for your visual evaluation, but will not go through the sale ring. Tested BVD - PI free. All bulls selling have been tested negative. All bulls have been vaccinated twice since weaning with IBR, PI3, BVD, BRSV - Modified Live, 7-Way, Pinkeye, Ivomec Pour-on. All bulls have been examined for breeding soundness and semen evaluated. All bulls sell with health certificates for immediate shipment.

Feel confident to use our sight unseen purchase agreement. We guarantee that the bulls will be as described, and to your liking, or you don’t own them. Buyers unable to attend the sale may send their bids to any sale staff or livestock publication representative. If you give us a bid on cattle you can rest assured we will attempt to purchase the animal for under or at your specified bid!

GUARANTEE

All bulls are guaranteed to be breeders. All bulls selling for $2,500 or more are guaranteed against breeding injury for the first breeding season. Breeding season is defined as the 90-day period following the first turnout of the bulls. If a replacement bull is available, he will be provided; or if the buyer prefers, credit will be given toward a bull at the following year’s sale, less salvage value of the injured bull. Salvage value will be valued at $1,500 and Hinkson Angus will provide credit on any amount over that. The buyer will receive whatever the actual salvage value is. Notification must be given to us prior to selling the injured bull. We do not guarantee against death for any reason. Insurance is available to purchase in case of mortality.

Expected Progeny Difference (EPD), is the prediction of how future progeny of each animal are expected to perform relative to the progeny of other animals listed in the database. EPDs are expressed in units of measure for the trait, plus or minus. Interim EPDs may appear on young animals when their performance has yet to be incorporated into the American Angus Association National Cattle Evaluation (NCE) procedures. This EPD will be preceded by an “I”, and may or may not include the animal’s own performance record for a particular trait, depending on its availability, appropriate contemporary grouping, or data edits needed for NCE.

Growth Calving Ease Direct (CED), is expressed as a difference in percentage of unassisted births, with a higher value indicating greater calving ease in first-calf heifers. It predicts the average difference in ease with which a sire’s calves will be born when he is bred to first-calf heifers. Birth Weight EPD (BW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit birth weight to his progeny compared to that of other sires. Weaning Weight EPD (WW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit weaning growth to his progeny compared to that of other sires. Yearling Weight EPD (YW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit yearling growth to his progeny compared to that of other sires. Yearling Height EPD (YH), is a predictor of a sire’s ability to transmit yearling height, expressed in inches, compared to that of other sires. Scrotal Circumference EPD (SC), expressed in centimeters, is a predictor of the difference in transmitting ability for scrotal size compared to that of other sires.

Carcass Carcass Weight EPD (CW), expressed in pounds is a predictor of the differences in hot carcass weight of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires. Marbling EPD (Marb), expressed as a fraction of the difference in USDA marbling score of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires. Ribeye Area EPD (RE), expressed in square inches, is a predictor of the difference in ribeye area of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires. Fat Thickness EPD (Fat), expressed in inches, is a predictor of the differences in external fat thickness at the 12th rib (as measured between the 12th and 13th ribs) of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires. $Value Indexes Weaned Calf Value ($W), an index value expressed in dollars per head, is the expected average difference in future progeny perfor-mance for preweaning merit. $W includes both revenue and cost adjustments associated with differences in birth weight, weaning direct growth, maternal milk, and mature cow size. Accuracy (ACC), is the reliability that can be placed on the EPD. An accuracy of close to 1.0 indicates higher reliability. Accuracy is impacted by the number of progeny and ancestral records included in the analysis. $Value Indexes, are multi-trait selection indexes, expressed in dollars per head, to assist beef producers by adding simplicity to genetic selection decisions. The $Value is an estimate of how future progeny of each sire are expected to perform, on average, compared to progeny of other sires in the database if the sires were randomly mated to cows and if calves were exposed to the same environment.

Maternal Calving Ease Maternal (CEM), is expressed as a difference in percentage of unassisted births with a higher value indicating greater calving ease in first-calf daughters. It predicts the average ease with which a sire’s daughters will calve as first-calf heifers when compared to daughters of other sires. Maternal Milk EPD (Milk), is a predictor of a sire’s genetic merit for milk and mothering ability as expressed in his daughters compared to daughters of other sires. In other words, it is that part of a calf’s weaning weight attributed to milk and mothering ability. Mature Weight EPD (MW), expressed in pounds, is a predictor of the difference in mature weight of daughters of a sire compared to the daughters of other sires. Mature Height EPD (MH), expressed in inches, is a predictor of the difference in mature height of a sire’s daughters compared to daughters of other sires. Cow Energy Value ($EN), expressed in dollar savings per cow per year, assesses differences in cow energy requirements as an expected dollar savings difference in daughters of sires. A larger value is more favorable when comparing two animals (more dollars are saved on feed energy expenses). Components for computing the cow $EN savings difference include lactation energy requirements and energy cost associated with differences in mature cow size.

Ultrasound Intramuscular Fat EPD (%IMF), is a predictor of the difference in a sire’s progeny for percent intramuscular fat in the ribeye muscle compared to other sires. Ribeye Area EPD (RE), is a predictor of the difference in square inches of ultrasound ribeye area of a sire’s progeny compared to the progeny of other sires. Fat Thickness EPD (FAT), expressed in inches, is a predictor of the difference in ultrasound fat thickness at the 12th rib of a sire’s progeny compared to the progeny of other sires. It includes the weighted average of 60% of the rib fat measurement and 40% of the rump fat measurement. Percent Retail Product EPD (%RP), is a predictor of the difference in pounds of salable retail product as derived from ultrasound measures of a sire’s progeny compared to progeny of other sires.

Feedlot Value ($F), an index value expressed in dollars per head, is the expected average difference in future progeny performance for postweaning merit compared to progeny of other sires. Grid Value ($G), an index value expressed in dollars per head, is the expected average difference in future progeny performance for carcass grid merit compared to progeny of other sires. FALL BULLS LOTS 1-46

• These fall born bulls have not been pushed hard, but have mainly been grown out on native grass. • They stayed on their mothers on native grass with no creep feed until they were weaned about July 1st. • The bulls were then turned back out in a 160 ac. pasture and fed only 2# of 20% all natural cubes per day until October 15th. Therefore their actual 365 day yearling wts. are lower. • Since Oct. 15th the bulls were brought up into a large pen and have been fed a ration of corn silage, ground hay, wet distillers, protein pre-mix, and approx. 7# of corn. This is a very high roughage ration, that allows the bulls to grow and develop without getting too fleshy. We hope you will appreciate their condition. • This type of development should help maintain soundness and longevity of these bulls, as they were not burned out early by over-feeding grain. No creep feed. • The average rib fat and rump fat on these bulls at a year of age was .16 inches. 5

25 Spring Calving Commercial Heifers

Really a top set of heifers ready to calve! There will probably be a few calves on the ground by sale day with the balance being heavy springers. All the heifers are sired by Hinkson Angus bulls and will be bred to low birth weight Hinkson bulls (average CED +12, Birth EPD +.2). These are all of the late bred heifers when we preg checked them last fall. These heifers have not been picked through and have not been offered for sale until sale day. A really nice gentle set of Angus and Baldy heifers. The heifers had a complete round of vaccinations last fall including Scourguard 4KC and 7-way Pinkeye at preg checking. They were given a booster in January of Guardian as well as poured with Ivomec. This group should make a really top set of females to plug into your herd! The pairs will sell first in Lots of 3, followed by the bred heifers in Lots of 3. 25 Fall Bred Commercial Heifers

A really fancy set of fall bred commercial heifers. All the heifers are sired by Hinkson bulls. Heifers were exposed to a Final Answer grandson with a CED of +15 and BW EPD of -2.0. Heifers were exposed from 12/1/14 - 2/15/15. These heifers will sell in groups of 3 and will sell based on breeding status, type, kind, etc. These heifers will have a complete round of vaccinations. At weaning they were given Bovishield Gold 1 Shot as well as 7-way Pinkeye poured with Ivomec. Before breeding they were boosted with 7-way Pinkeye and given a Breedback 10 shot poured with Ivomec. A group of heifers that you need to see to appreciate! Video of the heifers will be available by the first part of March and can be viewed at www.hinksonangus.com.
