Welcome Fellow Producers!
www.nissenangus.com
As another production sale approaches, we look back at the past year’s blessings and count the many things we are grateful for. 2014 was an amazing year for the cattle industry and we are excited to see what 2015 will bring! We have decided to offer our bulls through a video production sale this year. The format of the sale will be similar to a traditional sale - the bulls will be available on site to view and there will be an auctioneer and ringmen. Each bull in the sale offering has been individually videoed and that video will play as that bull is auctioned off. The bulls themselves will not go through a sale ring on sale day. Our biggest reason for switching to this type of sale was to lessen the stress placed on the bulls and make the sale more relaxed and personable. Our sale will be held at the Blaine County Fairground’s Commercial Building on April 1, 2015. The bulls will be available for inspeciton at the fairgrounds starting on Monday, March 30th. This set of bulls contains sons from some of the industry’s leading sires. We continue to get more interest and great feedback on our fall calving program and the 18 month old fall bulls that we offer. With the difference in growth patterns and development stages, we felt that the most accurate way to predict their genetic potential was through Zoetis 50K testing instead of traditional ultrasound scanning. As you go through the catalog, you will see the 50K logo by all the fall bull’s EPDs. Our spring group offers a selection of several AI sires along with some of our proven herd sires. All spring bulls were scanned for carcass merit. Overall, they were a well performing group, averaging 3.56 daily gain while at the feedlot. Both groups offer a good selection of 1/2 and 3/4 brothers. The bulls are on feed at Hould Feedlot in Malta, MT and available for you to view at any time. All the bulls have been performance and fertility tested. The bulls have been fed a high roughage ration to ensure soundness and longevity. All have been given Fusogard to prevent footrot. Bruce, Linda and crew do an amazing job and we are blessed to have them taking care of our bulls. Lane and Scott Schmitt of Schmitt Angus will continue to be our special guests and offer some of their own bulls for sale. Barb Korenjak of Corey A Ranch in Oregon continues to partner on some cows with us and any bulls resulting from those cows will be offered in the sale. The Schmitt and Korenjak families are good friends and we are fortunate to have the opportunity to work with them. We are truly blessed to be surrounded by family and friends who have supported us throughout the years and continue to offer their support today. We could not do what we love to do withouth them. We are fortunate to raise our kids in a lifestyle that teaches them to grow up with a sense of responsibility. In our minds, the most important thing we can do for our children is demonstrate to them the value of hard-work, honesty, dedication and common sense. We are excited about the future of Nissen Angus Inc. and we will continue on with Dad’s tradition of hard-work, honesty and a hand shake. Please feel free to call us if you would like additional information on the bulls, the new sale format or if you have any questions about our program. We love to chat - especially about our cattle and our kids. Chances are you won’t hear about one without hearing about the other! Our relationship with you is one thing we value and do not take for granted. Our sincere thanks for your friendship and support throughout the years – we look forward to working with you for many years to come. Please stop by and view the sale offering and join us for lunch on April, 1st. See you then! Jeff , Christie, Charley & Tyson Nissen
Lane Schmitt Scott Schmitt
406.390.2275 Lane’s Cell schmitt.angus@gmail.com www.schmittangus.com Thank you for your interest in our offering at the 2015 Nissen Angus Bull Sale. We would like to thank you for your past and future support of our expanding Angus herd. Our sincere thanks goes to Jeff and Christie for allowing us to market our bulls through their annual sale. This will be the ninth year we have had a bull in the Nissen sale. Above all we need to thank our parents, Bob and Maureen, for supporting us through the day to day activities and allowing us to continue with our cowherd as I go to veterinary school at MSU in conjunction with Washington State, and Scott attends Montana Tech, studying to be an engineer. Our herd started in 2002, with the purchase of one heifer from Nissen Angus as a 4-H beef breeding project. We have slowly expanded from there, keeping the heifers that we raised and buying an outside heifer most years. Our small herd size has allowed us to extensively use A.I. for two cycles of the breeding season and this has allowed us to both access the top genetics in the industry and also place high selective pressure on fertility. Our selection goals have revolved around what has made the breed popular, the female. We have selected sires for balanced traits and have tried to breed for cows with fertility, maternal value, performance, docility, fleshing ability, good feet, structure and longevity, along with producing extra thickness, ribeye, and power in the bulls. We are excited to offer 10 quality sons of Connealy Earnan 076E in this sale. He has been a very popular young bull across the country siring powerful, thick, deep, and stylish offspring. These bulls are the top 2/3 of our calf crop and offer consistency and the ability to sire stylish calves who will push the scales down. I was very fortunate to be able to gain extremely valuable experience through an internship at Poky Feeder’s in Scott City, KS this past summer. I received an extensive, first hand education of the other side of the industry by working all of the jobs involved in running a large, first class feedyard and spending time with outstanding management. I saw firsthand the increased value that high performance Angus cattle, who produce high quality CAB carcasses, can bring to the cow-calf producer, feedyard, packer, and consumer. Seize the opportunity to increase the genetics in your herd April 1st. Thank you for your interest in our program. Lane Schmitt Scott Schmitt Lane

Donation Lot
We’ve decided to start a tradition of donating a percentage of sales from a lot in the sale towards a cause that is near and dear to our hearts. We have lost many loved ones, friends and family, to cancer and we want to do our part to help find a cure. Lot 28 will be the donation lot this year. A percentage of the sales from this bull will be donated to the Blaine County Relay for Life in honor of the following family members:
Those we love don’t go away, They walk beside us every day, Unseen, unheard, but always near, Still loved, still missed and very dear.

Spring Herd Vs. Fall Herd Our operation consists of two seperate herds - a fall calving herd and a spring calving herd. The herds are managed seperately. Our spring cows start calving around the end of January. After calving, our spring cows and yearling heifers are pastured on the Fort Belknap Reservation. The mother cows remain at pasture until the calves are weaned beginning of October. After weaning, the cows are turned out on grass hay meadows until winter warrants supplemental feeding. The coming two year old heifers remain out to grass until around the middle of November, when they are then brought in closer to home to prepare for calving. Our fall calving begins the first part of August and runs to the first part of October. The fall cows are calved out on native range and wintered along the Milk River. Our fall cows receive the same amount of feed throughout the winter as our spring cows and the calves receive no creep. When comparing fall born bulls to spring born bulls, several factors need to be taken into consideration to account for the differences in weaning weights and growth patterns. Our fall calving program begins around August 15th. Those bulls are raised on cured-out grass along with mother’s milk and hay through the winter (no creep). They are weaned by May 10th before any green grass is available for growth. On the other hand, our spring born bulls are grown out on green grass, providing them with the opportunity for greater growth potential. From our management experience, in order to level the playing field between the fall born bulls and spring born bulls, you have to take into account that the fall bulls’ 205 day weights will normally be100-125 lbs lighter than the spring bulls’ 205 day weights. The fall bulls will also show a difference in carcass data compared to the spring bulls due to the difference in feed and season of growth pattern. The fall bulls are going through their growth during the winter and early spring. In previous years, the fall bulls are only on a growth ration for a short time before being ultrasounded. We feel that this led to skewed data, giving the impression that the fall group was of poorer carcass merit when compared to the spring group. One of our main reasons for Zoetis 50K testing our fall group was to eliminate misconception and scan data variance. We feel the HD50K test will provide us and our customers with more accurate and reliable predictors.

AAR Hilger was our pick from the 2012 Arntzen Angus Ranch Production Sale for $10,000. He stems from one of the most powerful cow families at Arntzen Angus Ranch. His dam, AAR Lady Kelton 5551, is the dam of the Accelerated Genetics star AAR Ten X. AAR Lady Kelton 5551’s maternal granddam, NA Lady Constence 504, was raised at Nissen Angus and sold at the NILE Female Sale in 1995. Hilger’s calves are born unassisted with lots of vigor. He is a true fire heifer bull! Reference Sire

Selected in the 2011 Gartner-Denowh Angus Ranch Production Sale as one of the top selling, high-ratioing bulls in the sale. We were impressed with his low birth and explosive growth, along with the superior carcass potential. We had him collected and use him in our fall and spring programs - both AI and natural service. 0714’s calves have stood out in the feedlot the last two years - we are very happy with what we have seen so far and are excited about his future. Thank you for coming to the sale! We appreciate your support and value your business. We hope 2015 proves to be a succesful year for your operation. See ya next year! A Special Thanks.... We are so fortunate to be surrounded by family and friends that are willing and ready to help whenever we give them a call. We appreciate all they do for us and our kids. We could not do what we love to do without them.
Alan & Rachel Weaver - Christie’s parents have helped us out a great deal in the past few years. Whether it is taking the kids for the weekend or helping work cows, they never turn us down when we ask. Life is always good at Grandma and Grandpa’s! Mike Nissen - Jeff ’s brother keeps everything going at the farm in Harlem all year round, lends a hand with the cows when need be and helps feed in the winter. He’s even taken the kids with him in the feed pickup - you’re the best Uncle Mike! Jim & Louise Nissen - Jeff ’s uncle and aunt watch the kids from time to time and Jim helps with the cattle when we need an extra hand. The kids love spending time at Auntie and Uncle’s. Bill & Duan Drugge - We’ve been blessed with the opportunity to get to know and work with Bill and Duan, their family and their operation. They are like grandparents to our children and we appreciate all they do for us. Brad Weaver - Christie’s brother is always a reliable source of extra help. From farming, to working cows to hanging sale posters, he always takes time out of his busy schedule to help us out. Bob & Cindy Berg - Jeff ’s sister and brother-in-law are always on hand to help with the sale and any other task we ask of them. Cindy’s cooking is second to none and we are fortunate to have her and Bob handle the details for the meal and refreshments at the sale. Carol Murch and Samantha Weaver - Our sister-in-laws are always on hand to help out whenever we need them. From sale day food service to watching kids, we are grateful to have them around Lane and Scott Schmitt - We put these boys to work every chance we get. They are great help and good company - always providing us with some crazy stories that remind us of our youth! To everyone else that helps out throughout the year and during the sale - thank you! We appreciate it more than you’ll ever know.
