Editor’s Message Bull sale season is in full swing and so is calving for many! Both happen to be my favorite times of the year. Bull sales are a lot of work, but they are also social events where producers are able to share stories and compare failures and successes! Calving is also a lot of work, but it is fun to see the new genetics hit the ground and honestly, baby anythings are quite cute!

Futurity Prize Money Increased
The North Dakota Simmental Board has extended the scholarship program to graduating high school seniors and college freshmen. The deadline is March 15, 2015 and the application can be downloaded on the North Dakota Simmental website or by contacting Kim Myers, ND Secretary.
At the January 2015 NDSA Board meeting, the Board voted to increase the prize money for the 2015 State Fair Futurity. The new total prize money is $3,800. 1st place - $1,000 2nd place - $ 800 3rd place - $ 600 4th place - $ 500 5th place - $ 400 6th place - $ 300 7th place - $ 200

More prizes offered at ND State Fair At the 2015 ND State Fair Junior Show, the Champion Purebred Simmental heifer and the Champion Percentage Heifer will receive a clipper. The North Dakota Simmental Association Board of Directors passed this at the January 2015 meeting. As a bonus, every exhibitor will automatically be entered into a drawing for a chance to win a $1,100 upright aluminum show box.

Futurity Rules 1. Seller must be a member of the South Dakota Simmental Association 2. Junior must be a member of the South Dakota Junior Simmental Association 3. Futurity heifers or steers cannot be sold to immediate family members 4. Futurity animals must be shown by the SDJSA member who purchased the animal or a member of their immediate family 5. Heifers & Steers must be registered with the American Simmental Association as half-blood or greater Simmental. Registration paper must accompany entry form 6. $40 non-refundable entry fee must accompany entry form. Entry fee can be split with the buyer or whatever agreement they come to 7. All entry fees plus added prize money will be awarded at the Futurity Show (both heifers & steers) which is held during the SD Summer Spotlight 8. Classes will be determined at the show 9. Heifers or Steers must be purchased at one of the following state sanctioned sales: SD State Simmental Source Sale, Sioux Empire Farm Show, Black Hills Stock Show, or the Watertown Winter Farm Show 10.
