Seminar Presentation - Script Title name:

Compare and contrast British and Taiwanese fashion brands bags Outline & script: [Good morning! My name is livia. Today I am going to talk about the title is “Compare and contrast British and Taiwanese fashion brands bags”. I have divided my presentation into 4 main parts. First of all, I will introduce the cultural history of bags.]

1. About Bags/Handbags • Introduction -The cultural history of bags. [When it comes to talking about handbags, people use these words and a lot of phrases to describe their bags as well as their relationship to this. “The history of handbag and its small conspirator and close ally, the coin purse, touches upon many different aspects of dress and textile. Purses and bags have been essential to daily lift for as long as people have had money or precious items to be carried.” (Wilcox, 2008, pp. 8). Regarding the cultural history of bags, this could be divided several periods. From in the pocket to purse; early in the 1800s, the first bags developed in response to changing fashions in dress. At first, handbags were used to transport the ephemera connected with women’s social lives, from dance cards to diaries, fans pocket and visiting cards. At the end of the 16th century and in the 17th century, the bag for men gradually fell into disuse. In the 17th and 18th centuries, women had various practical accessories at their disposal for carrying their personal belongings. With the Industrial Revolution (approx. 1760-1830), ‘new’ materials like papier-mâché, iron and polished steel also found their way into the bag. A wealth of bags in distinctive forms and materials are the true ‘samples’ of a new era. The 1950’s was a time that focused on beauty and elegant, the handbags of this period perfectly reflected the style trends. However, with the rise of the counterculture; in the 1960's and 1970's, the youth-driven style turned toward more ethics, such as fabric shoulder bags, handmade products and items celebrating specially craftsmanship. Between 1980’s and 1990's, bags not only became anything goes, but also demonstrated the genesis of what would later become a diverse landscape of personal accessories that evolve for both style and usage. Since its introduction in 1998, the bag has helped to establish the fashion look through the way it is worn as well as through its form. Nowadays, the technological revolutions so that men and women using bags in a variety of ways. Our lives have become the most mobile of any other time in history and handbags have a long history as an invaluable tool, now more than ever, bags offer customizable style and an unlimited JH.YU-1
