General Manager’s Message Welcome to the February edition of our Living Gems Caboolture newsletter. There are many milestones in our sights for the next few months. Amongst these is the completion of our Living Gems Caboolture country club, which I am very excited about opening for our residents to use at their discretion. The country club is the prominent place for resort socialising and meeting new neighbours and friends, so I do hope residents will utilise the country club as often as possible. If you are interested in being a part of the welcoming community here at Living Gems Caboolture, please do not hesitate to contact our friendly Sales Team at the Sales Office. Our craft sign it can be seen out side at different homes each week.

The clever positioning of the two bedrooms and 1.5 car garage make the home feel light and airy. Plus, with the efficient use of space there’s more opportunity for variations and creativity in addition to being excellent value for money. This home is definitely not one to be overlooked! • Open-plan living area • Two bedrooms • Two bathrooms

As we’re blessed with such outstanding weather in Queensland, it is fair to say that no resort is complete without its very own swimming pool. Whether you prefer relaxing in the shallow end or doing endless fitness laps, our swimming pools will cater for all desires. Our magnesium mineral pools are renowned for their endless health benefits, including: alleviating aches and pains, soothing the skin and having the added bonus of no sticky salt feeling on your skin after you’ve gotten out.

Resident Spotlight Tell us your story?

Marie & Knox Arps

We started to look at downsizing about eight years ago and I looked at various villages and retirement places. We were at a free camp some years ago and met a couple who had been living in Ruby by Living Gems for 12 months. They really sold us the whole idea; we wanted to go to Maleny at first and went to check Living Gems Maleny - the Sales Manager was a tremendous help, but we felt the hilly country was not for us. When I read that Living Gems were having a launch of their new proposed village here in Caboolture in May 2015, I went to the launch and knew this was it; our search had finished. We rang Glenys, the Sales Manager, while waiting as we drove right up to the river. We stopped in the middle of this huge paddock, and said: “this is HOME”.

We were the first to sign up at Living Gems Caboolture we sold our home, put our furniture in storage, loaded the van and with Charlie, the three of us set off. We were house sitting and being Gypsies for 12 months. We moved into our home, villa 229, on the 8 September 2016 – I think we were the third home owners! It was very different then to what it is now, but we have never regretted moving in. We have watched the village community grow which has been really special for us. Both Knox and I feel we are in the best place; you have everything you need here in Caboolture and surrounds – I just love where we are.

At Living Gems, we like to know our people. Bringing like-minded individuals together is something that we’re truly passionate about. What is your favourite room in your home? My favourite place is my kitchen and my craft room. Favourite pastime? At the moment, my favourite pastime is my first coffee at 5.30am in my courtyard, before the construction workers come, as my corner of the street is a very busy one through the day. Also taking Charlie for a walk as he meets all his buddies along the way. Though most walks are meant to be only for five minutes – two hours later we get home! We just love talking with the neighbours.

Favourite hobby? I love riding my new bike with my friend Marianne. After our first ride around the village, everyone who saw us wanted one. By the end of the day, eight more were bought! Both Marianne and I say often that we are thankful to have found this little piece of paradise. Best part about being in the resort? I just love where we live. We could not ask for better neighbours and friends; we all feel very close to one another. It has often been said by my friend Elfie, “we are one big family looking out for each other.” In the beginning, just after we moved in, about eight of us homeowners decided to bring some chairs, tables and nibbles, which is how our Happy Hour started. Little did we know that

Our little group said, “hey, let’s pull out some chairs, stick a table out and bring some nibbles and get to know each other.” Little did we know that would become a regular social event on Fridays. would become a regular social event on Fridays! What do you do in your spare time?

I am the proud editor of the Village Flyer. I am also heavily involved in organising our social events, such as Happy Hours, Pizza Nights and our Street Parties. One day I was chatting with the other resident ladies about what we do in our spare time. Most said crafts, so we started our first craft group. We will have the craft events in different homes until our country club opens. My Friend Carol came up with a fabulous idea of starting a Mahjong group, so now we have 12 happy games playing each week. We also have a fit team of early morning walkers headed by our Red Hatter Queen Molly.

Quick Fix Foods

For those of us who don’t like to spend too much time making the food (and would rather just eat it), quick fixes like the 10 minute chicken and avocado salad might just do the trick!

Sherlock Serves: 4

Ingredients: • 2 sliced avocados • 1/2 cup of whole-egg mayonnaise • 1/4 cup of lemon juice • 2tbs chopped fresh thyme • 3 cups of dried fusilli pasta 4 green onions (thinly sliced)

• 3 cups of shredded cooked chicken breast • 1/2 x 285g jar piquillo peppers (drained and thinly slices) • 4 green onions (thinly sliced) • 50g shredded baby spinach

Method • Cook pasta in a large saucepan with boiled water. • Drain and rinse pasta under cold water. Set aside to cool. • Place chicken, peppers, avocados, spinach and pasta in a bowl. • Slowly toss ingredients whilst adding mayonnaise, lemon juice and thyme.

A depiction of Sherlock Holmes, this show illustrates the spirit of Arthur Conan Doyle’s well-known detective stories. Starring Benedict Cumberbatch, Sherlock is set in the Victorian period where Sherlock and his trusty sidekick Dr John Watson solve the greatest criminal mysteries. This series is spoken quite highly of and is critically acclaimed.

Outback Rangler Viewable on Foxtel, Outback Rangler follows the life of Matt, a crocodile catcher. Watch how Matt takes extra precautions when relocating these big beasts away from harm’s way. Episodes are set out in the bush at stations, river banks and even local shopping centres from up north!

Scrubs This hilarious sitcom trails the lives of a handful of junior medical practitioners. It can at times portray a sense of dark humour, but it mainly depicts the somewhat ridiculous daily rituals of the characters in their departments. A very funny series that will soon become your main binge show!

Social Update

Dr Phil A Channel Ten midday favourite, Dr Phil provides psychological insight into the lives of those stuck in emotional turmoil in the form of a talk show. Each episode will see the medically accredited Dr Phil provide advice and information to guests to assist them in their critical problems and issues.

Are you wanting to start your year off being a fit and healthier you? Or just wanting to meet people that are interested in living an active life? Why not come down and join the Living Gems Caboolture walk group. The walks are held weekly and are a great way to mingle with your neighbours.
