Failure is for the privileged who Succeed One of the biggest fears of humans is failure. Will I.. Should I… If I… – FAIL. All doubts and thoughts that cross a mind at different stages. Mostly before one even takes a plunge. If you never want to fail, here is the simplest mantra… Don’t even try something. ‘Cause the moment you try your chances of failing have multiplied. So why try? I say don’t TRY. Trying is the first step towards failure. DO IT is what’s needed. That guarantees one thing- Success. I count success as getting that first step towards what you intend on Doing. The final goal achieved is the Award or Reward. Success is that you DID IT… Against the biggest odd- the thought of Failing. You are now Management the privileged few to Succeed and Neeraj Vasudeva only you will taste the blood of Failure. And failure sometimes Content becomes the motivation for the Zeba Akhtar (Assistant Content Manager) ultimate success. Sidharth Sodhi

What’s common is – Success and Failure. They are the yin and yang. We are as much a result of our Success as much as that of our Failures. Without the failures we are incomplete. And without success there is no failure. The above may sound philosophical blabbering to some. It would have sounded the same to me a sometime back. But when you happen to be the one who took that first small step (which is the Success), you understand the meaning that lies behind the words of philosophical wisdom.

5 Reasons to
Incorportate Accessories in your Outfits by Priya Shah
Body- Image is the image a person has about oneself in their head. What they think about themselves AND THEIR BODIES WHEN they look in the mirror. ccessorizing when done right, can be extremely beneficial for an individual’s appearance. It adds an element to an outfit; it makes “dressing up - complete.” Accessorizing includes every detail from a tiny hair pin, bindi, spectacles, glares, neck-pieces, bracelets, waist chain, cuffs, watches, footwear, anklets – to name a few , neglected by us while creating an ensemble. For most people, accessorizing is only an occasion thing. But if incorporated on every day basis, with various outfits – the outcome will make you fall in love with it. I too was never an accessory person & I would always wonder, “How will adding more accessories to my wardrobe help me?” But since I love to experiment, I began investing in them & I actually found myself quite fascinated with the idea – which you will discover in this article. As a matter of percentage, accessories must be 25% of your wardrobe budget;
April 2016 | Volume1 Issue 12 | Living Local Mumbai (Andheri West Edition)
but we hardly leave 2%-3% of our budget to it. Therefore, here are some reasons why you need to love invest, wear, & make accessorizing part of your routine dressing:
IT’S QUITE ECONOMICAL Accessorizing will change the look of your outfits. Imagine accessorizing a simple black top in four different ways simply by changing the shoes, jewelry, handbag or belt. This would cost a lot less than having to buy separate outfits. Sure if you want the branded bag or shoes you will pay more for them but there are so many other choices out there. Remember it’s the color, style and design that you are looking for in accessories to compliment your outfit so you do not have to pay the earth for them. So, it’s quite simple - the more accessories you have, the less clothes you will need because you can make an old outfit look new by just playing with the detailing.

GETS YOU ALL CREATIVE
IMPACTS BODY IMAGE
If you are the experimenting types, playing with accessories will be your thing. When you accessorize, you can wear your versatile basics without looking boring. The right accessories can truly take any boring outfit and make it fun.
Body-Image is the image a person has about oneself in their head. What they think about themselves & their body they look in the mirror. Many people think, thinner people have a positive body image, which is a myth.
Accessories put thoughts into an outfit. So use them to communicate (I thoroughly believe – Use your appearance to Communicate messages about you.) So, if you understand how to use the right accessories for the right occasion, you can truly make an outfit tasteful.
I’ve seen many plus sizes being content about them because they have understood the fact that they need to experiment and find out what looks good on them. So whatever is the built – if one knows how to dress and appear their best they will naturally be happier on the inside and outside.
While choosing accessories, keep in mind your purpose for the day & accessorize accordingly.
FLATTERS YOUR ASSETS
Body-Image is a lot about being able to communicate the personal style RIGHT.
One of the reasons to love accessories is because they have power; Power to attract attention. Humans come in all shapes and sizes, and it’s no secret that certain clothes & style flatters only certain figure.
Now you must be thinking how is accessories a part of BodyImage. But if you think about a person, instead of disliking their body; concentrating more on how they can love and adorn it won’t it impact their Body-Image?
One needs to figure out their assets and body variations and accordingly use accessories to adorn their assets while camouflage their body variations. Let me ask you a question, how manytimes have you stood in front of a mirror and pointed out all the imperfections in your body? Whether be it your small bust or wide hips, sometimes you just have to come to terms with the fact that there are some things you can’t change.
Now do you see why accessories are such an important part of every woman’s wardrobe? So next time you come across an accessory that screams to you, don’t hesitate! Remember, accessories are a woman’s best friend! So go ahead and accessorize!!!
But what you can do is use accessories to pull attention away from your problem. areas. Few examples to explain the above idea are HIGH HEELS FOR PETITE GIRLS AS IT ADDS HEIGHT AND ELONGATES THE LEGS LONG, VERTICAL EARRINGS CAN HAS A SLIMMING EFFECT ON THE FACE, AND WHEN SUITABLE FOR THOSE WITH A ROUND FACE Belts are the best tools to accentuate your curves
ENABLES PERSONAL EXPRESSION Accessories aren’t just about making statements, but it’s more than that. My previous articles talks about how colors and clothes communicate. Similarly every accessory we put on also communicates something. Example: pearls speak about elegance while beads & shells speak about a beach holiday. A solid structured black bag is formal than colorful flowery bag. So again, each accessory comes in various shapes, sizes, color, fabric and all of it matters while putting it in the ensemble. Use them to express your personal style more simply.

LIFE HACK Capture with your heart, do not over think. If you consider photography beyond clicking selfies, then these tips might help you get started.
ART OF STORY TELLING Every photograph holds a story within; explore the unspoken language of visuals. It requires lot of thought and mental imagery put into every shot, be patient with your subject and sync with their vibe. Good images communicate; a photograph can be serious, inquisitive, funny, complicated.
PLAY WITH LIGHT Natural source of light is my personal favorite tool, and the best time to take pictures is early mornings and late afternoons. Experiment with different angles and play with shadows for dramatic effects.

PHOTOGRAPHY MAKES ME FEEL INFINITE; IT GIVES ME THE LIBERTY TO CREATE A WORLD THAT APPEALS TO MY SENSIBILITIES AS AN ARTIST. MY INITIAL EXPERIMENTATION WITH A PROFESSIONAL CAMERA WAS A DISASTER; I WAS SO CONFUSED ABOUT THE TECHNICALITIES THAT IT OVERPOWERED THE JOY OF LEARNING SOMETHING NEW. YOU CAN BROWSE THROUGH MULTIPLE TUTORIAL VIDEOS, LEARN THE VARIOUS SETTINGS, AND FILTER OPTIONS BUT WHAT REALLY MATTERS IS YOUR UNIQUE PERSPECTIVE.
by Pooja Kochar
CONNECT AND LEARN Search for online photography groups in your hood, they are usually free or have minimum membership fees. You will be surprised at how much you learn and experiment with likeminded people. Photo walks are an exciting way to explore photography and share valuable information.
NO RULES There are no rules or boundaries, trust your gut and make it good enough.

The more you click, the better you get. Find an instinctive way to understand the relationship between aperture, shutter speed, and ISO. It takes time, but eventually you will develop a natural flair. Every photographer is naturally inclined towards a specific stream of photography; the depth of human emotions inspires me. Find what drives your imagination and chase it with all your passion. Capture moments, they are priceless.

hen you are packing for a vacation, what will happen if you carry winter clothes for Goa and your beachwear while packing for a trek to the Himalayas? When you get a dress stitched, why are you so specific to the extent of getting even that quarter inch alteration done? Why do you have different beauty products for different skin types? Does your doctor always give you the same tablet for all your illnesses? The answer is no, because there is nothing like one type that suits all. Similarly, when it comes to your finances you are unique - you have a different risk tolerance, different set of financial goals, and different expectations from investments, which will need different solutions to address them.

So how does one begin? First list down the goals that you wish to achieve. Goals may differ based on what stage of life you are in. While in your 20’s you may have goals like funding your own post-graduation, sabbatical for further studies, etc., whilst in your 30’s you may wish to own a house, build a corpus for your child’s education, may be pay down a loan, etc. In your 40’s it could be planning for your retirement corpus or marriage costs for your kids. Goals change as your age changes. It is then critical to assign priorities to your goals. Do incorporate the effect of inflation in the cost of your goals. To be able to achieve your goals you will need to generate savings for making investments. Keep a check on your expenses. Try to identify the nondiscretionary ones, which you can do away with. “ Do not save what is left after spending

investments at least quarterly or halfyearly.
Identifying your risk tolerance is the starting point whilst making an investment. Someone who is young and has a regular flow of income may have a higher risk appetite compared to someone who may be nearing retirement and may have important goals like child’s post-graduation and wedding just ahead of him.
Be a disciplined investor. Invest regularly and stick to your asset allocation. Know the product completely before investing in it and do not just go after returns.
Understand the difference between ability to take risk and willingness to take risk. Whether you are a conservative or an aggressive investor, diversification is a must. This is where asset allocation comes into picture. Asset allocation helps you include different instruments in your kitty by assigning proper weights in line with your risk appetite and goals. Also, asset allocation should be designed keeping your longer term and shorter term goals in mind. Certain investments like real estate and equities generate significantly better returns when you stay invested for a long term. Ensure you review your

Hi...I am a 25 year old girl. I have just joined an I.T company for my job. I experience lots of burning on my cheeks and nose. Skin becomes red especially when i travel in sun. Occasionally I also break out into eruptions. Have yet not taken any treatment. Can u suggest some creams and treatment? Jigna, Rajkot Hi Jigna. This condition of skin that u are experiencing is known as rosacea. It gets aggravated with stress, sun, heat, spicy food and hot drinks like tea, coffee or alcohol. The best thing to do is to correct your life style. Protect your skin with sunscreen which has an SPF between 15 to 30. Use creams containing hyaluronic acid and calming agents like calamine and aloe vera. Treatments like photofacials help alleviate the redness of skin. I am 29 years. I am an actor. I have uneven textured skin. Lots of scars on face. Some scars are very deep. I used to have pus filled pimples on my face 7 to 8 years ago. The pimples have settled but have left behind these scars. This causes little issue with my makeup and it cannot conceal all my scars. This doesn’t look good on screen. Is there any solution for scars.? Can I have a smooth flawless skin again? nodular type of acne leaves behind marks and scars easily. If treated early it prevents scarring and does not leave any telltale signs. Once the acne scars have formed it is difficult to erase them completely but thanks to new age treatment like fractional lasers it is possible to lighten them to a great extent. Peels like TCA and glycolic peels help lighten up the marks and scars. Hyaluronic acid fillers help fill up the scars instantly with no downtime. People who are into modelling and acting need to face camera and do not have much time so they usually prefer to undergo treatments like fillers which show instant results.

How Processed Foods make us unhealthy
W
hat is “processed” food? It’s foods that have changed form, and are therefore different from how they occur in nature. How is food processed? There are two main kinds of processing. 1. Physical change, such as chopping orcooking the food. Even this processing can change the nutritional value... 2. Chemical processing. Chemicals are also used to intentionally change the form of foods, eg, colors, preservatives, flavorings, preservatives, etc. WHY ARE FOODS PROCESSED? To protect them from bad bacteria and to make them more visually appealing, packageable, marketable, and shippable. It’s all a matter of convenience. These products are so fake that classifying them as “food” is quite a stretch. Even whole healthy foods are processed. Vegetables are sprayed so that they can be stored longer – potatoes may be six months old before you eat them! Read the ingredients list on a package – how many things do you recognize? How many are “extracts,” “from concentrate,” or just scary scientific words? Processed foods are bad for the body and mind in so many ways. For one thing, the artificial ingredients they contain, can cause reactions in the digestive, immune, and nervous
18
systems. Also, processed foods often lack many crucial nutrients. The more processed foods you eat, the less nourished you become. Common Highly Processed Foods Bleached and Highly-refined Flour is devoid of fiber, vitamins, and minerals, leaving nothing but starch and a small amount of protein in these products. White bread, pasta, and baked goods are the main culprits. It’s these refined, simple, high glycemic carbs that you need to avoid. They’re quickly digested and cause your blood sugar to spike, and your body immediately either uses or stores them (as glycogen and/or fat). A better option is to opt for whole, complex, quality carbohydrates such as bajra, rajgira, buckwheat, or you can try minimally processed whole-grain breads and pastas. Refined Sweeteners Artificial sweeteners exacerbate cravings, disrupt gut bacteria, and cause glucose intolerance.Ditch the aspartame, high-fructose corn syrup, and even agave nectar. A better option, if you must use sweeteners, is to use natural sweeteners low in fructose. Raw organic honey and coconut palm sugar are best. Refined, Trans-fat or

Partially-hydrogenated Vegetable Oils “Refining” an oil can involve bleaching, deodorizing, or treatment with an acid or alkali to prevent it from going rancid. Many oils are hydrogenated, a process that makes them solid, but also creates trans-fats. These are the unhealthy fats that increase bad and decrease good cholesterols and cause heart disease and diabetes. They’re unsaturated, cheap, and processed, and they are used in most fast foods, baked goods and fried foods. It’s time we all stopped fearing good fat. Eating fat will keep your hunger under control, give you incredible energy throughout the day , improve the taste and texture of your food, and improve your blood sugar and relevant cholesterol levels (saturated fat increases HDL better than virtually anything else you could do). Toss the canola, stick to extra virgin olive oil, butter, lard, ghee, and unrefined coconut oil. The Bottom Line If you don’t recognize something, don’t buy it! Stick with the KISS method – minimally-processed, natural, whole foods. Your body will thank you for it. And you can Stay Healthy.

IMPORTANCE OF FRONT TEETH IN SMILE WE LIVE IN A BEAUTY CONSCIOUS SOCIETY. THE IDEA WITHIN MOST MINDS IS “BEAUTIFUL IS BETTER.” NOT ALL OF THE “BEAUTIFUL PEOPLE “ WERE BORN THAT WAY , HOWEVER, MANY HAVE HELPED NATURE ALONG BY TAKING ADVANTAGE OF PLASTIC SURGERY, AS WELL AS COSMETIC DENTISTRY . TAKING STEPS TO IMPROVE YOUR APPEARANCE TODAY IS CONSIDERED AN INVESTMENT IN YOUR HEALTH AND WELL BEING.
IT ALL BEGINS WITH A SMILE
We will discuss here the importance of front teeth in smile. If you are not completely happy with your smile, perhaps it is time to get a new one .The following self-analysis will help you to make a decision...
ARE ANY OF YOUR TEETH DARKER THAN THE OTHERS?
DO YOUR FILLINGS, LAMINATES, AND CAPPING –LOOK NATURAL?
If one of your tooth is darker than the other, it may indicate that the pulp inside is injured, damaged or dead. In such a case, the infected pulp may require treatment in order to save the tooth .Afterwards, the dark tooth often can be lightened with bleaching procedures (walking bleach technique), or the darkness can be masked with composite resin bonding or laminating. Sometimes, however, treatment includes the placement of fiber post inside the tooth for reinforcement, followed by a crown or cap.
Artificial look in this smile is revealed by the dark line around the 3 front crowned teeth. The form and shade may also be inconsistent with adjacent teeth. The unnatural grey or purple colored gingiva called Tattooing effect attracts more attention than the quality of the crown. The porcelain is so opaque that it blocks the light and the other reason is metal oxide diffuses into gingiva. Solution is use of an all-ceramic crown as opposed to a PFM.
ARE ANY OF YOUR FRONT TEETH MISSING? Missing teeth can be replaced similarly. Dental implants have become a viable and aesthetic dental treatment option. It is simply a metal device that replaces the root of the natural tooth. After an implant is placed into the underlying bone, artificial teeth are attached to it, enabling normal function & aesthetics.

DNA SPA FACIAL by Synthia Lau
DNA SPA FACIAL A facial technique which stimulates the natural skin functions to enhance the complexion. FGF 2 is protected resulting in longer contact time with the Fibroblast Growth Factor receptors leading to very intense synthesis of collagen, elastin and GAGs and a boost in cells regeneration. Polypeptide enzyme accelerates cell reproduction resulting in smoother skin. Proteolytic enzyme gently removes dead cells and stimulates enzymatic activity leading to a livelier and brighter complexion. Damaged tissues are repaired and skin is thickened resulting in reduced sensitivity.
Auto healing process intensify production of collagen and skin looks younger. Nano sun block reflects sun light resulting in a total cover shield against its damaging effect. Skin becomes fairer and pigmentation is reduced. To complete the program, a course of 8 facials is recommended at frequency of once a week. A UNIQUE AN EFFECTIVE SOLUTION A unique blend of strong actives to treat the following problems: Pitted scars Severe acne Wrinkles Pigmentation Uneven skin tone Lack-lustre skin

As we age, there is a sharp decline in the cell’s energy. This is particularly significant after the age of 30 years, when energy levels decline sharply till it levels off from age 50 years at an extremely low level of around 25% of peak energy. April 2016 | Volume1 Issue 12 | Living Local Mumbai (Andheri West Edition)
This means that for a mature skin around 50 years of age, the production of new cells is very slow. If we can significantly increase cells’ energy in the treatment process we can cause the cavities in the pore areas to be filled up thereby removing the pitted scars rapidly, and we can exfoliate the dead cells quickly resulting in a more even color tone. The answer is YES! We are able to do this! The ability to boost cells’ production by protection of a general hormone, FGF-2. This will improve skin’s ability to synthesize cells’ production, thereby leading to the rapid removal of scars, and uneven skin tone. The solution is to activate the skin’s Auto Healing Function(AHF) so that the skin begins to produce collagen and becomes firmer and more supple. The use of proteolytic enzyme has an intense desquamating function. As a result, the top layer of the skin sheds faster than normal rate. This action leads to rapid increase of new cells which in turn leads to rapid removal of scars and uneven skin tone. The use of tretinoin-like substance to control tyrosinase activities, thereby lightens skin.

Who needs
Bariatric (Weight loss) Surgery? AM I ‘FAT’? We Indians traditionally prefer to call ourselves ‘healthy’ rather than fat! Being overweight, obese or morbidly obese is not a matter of appearance but is an objective evaluation of height and weight. This is done by calculating the BMI (body mass index) along with absence of diseases like Type 2 Diabetes, Hypertension, sleep apnea, PCOS and so on. So for a person who is 5 foot 4 inches tall, a weight of 100 kilograms will be categorized as morbid obesity. While at the same weight, a 6-feet tall person would be measured as overweight.
WHAT IS ‘BARIATRIC SURGERY’? When someone has ‘class III obesity’ or is morbidly obese, they need to lose more than 30-50 kilograms or sometimes much more! Doing this with a diet & exercise program may be extremely frustrating and fruitless. Bariatric surgery is a group of operations performed on the stomach and intestines which reduces hunger,
24
makes one satisfied with small quantity of food without feeling starved. This creates a calorie deficit and helps burn the excess body fat and lose weight. Bariatric surgery not only reduces weight but also helps cure diabetes, PCOS, hypertension, sleep apnea, cholesterol problems, heart disease and many such problems associated with obesity.
WHAT HAPPENS AFTER BARIATRIC SURGERY? Bariatric surgery is the beginning of a journey to weight loss. One starts losing weight over weeks and months for up to 2 years. After which one has to learn to maintain the weight. We have to be mindful about what we eat, though surgery does most of the work. Diabetes, hypertension, sleep apnea start improving and one finds that over the coming months the medications may need to be reduced and subsequently stopped. Possibility of regaining significant weight over a long term is much less with Bariatric surgery as compared to diet & exercise regimen.

Dr Sharad Sharma is a Bariatric & Laparoscopic Surgeon at MetaBariatric Clinic for Obesity & Metabolic Surgery, Mumbai.
HOW IS BARIATRIC SURGERY PERFORMED? Bariatric surgery is essentially a group of laparoscopic surgeries, performed through small holes (key hole surgery) in the abdomen. The commonly performed bariatric procedures are Laparoscopic vertical sleeve gastrectomy, Laparoscopic roux-en-Y gastric bypass, Laparoscopic mini gastric bypass. There are many more variations a bariatric surgeon may advice depending on the medical conditions and dietary considerations.
WHO NEEDS BARIATRIC SURGERY? Any person who has a BMI of 37.5 or a BMI of 32.5 with obesity related diseases like diabetes, hypertension, PCOS, sleep apnea, dyslipdemia, osteoarthritis & has tried other ways to lose weight should strongly consider bariatric surgery. Dr Sharad Sharma is a Bariatric & Laparoscopic Surgeon practicing in Mumbai.

HOLDING UP A NAME

W
henever we talk about some of the leading places for modern European food within the city, The Woodside Inn sure does come up in some way or the other. The very first outlet began in Colaba and soon it travelled as a blessing to our hood, purely for the people of the suburb to enjoy their variety of Modern European and American cooking. I have personally been a huge fan of The Woodside Inn, and when I got the opportunity to speak to their Head Chef, I could not be more delighted. It was like getting a sneak peek into all the flavors that land onto my plate every time I visit The Woodside Inn.
TO THIS, HE SMILED AND REPLIED. “YES, IT IS A CHALLENGING TASK INDEED AS IT ALWAYS KEEPS ME ON MY TOES...

After serving at a number of different and prestigious restaurants, Chef Pednekar was on the lookout for something that challenged him and helps him accentuate his skills. It was

at this very juncture that The Woodside Inn happened to him over two years ago and since then, there is no looking back. The continuous experiments that the restaurant has to offer in terms of tasty dishes is the hard work of Chef Pednekar along with a highly dedicated team.
A graduate in Hotel Management from Rizvi College, Mumbai, Chef Pednekar had always been a curious child about what goes on in the kitchen. “Every time my mother would bring some food up the table, most of the other family members would usually
WHEN ASKED ABOUT A SIGNATURE STYLE OF COOKING, HE SAID THAT HAVING A SIGNATURE STYLE IS NOT REALLY A NECESSITY. HE DID NOT CLAIM TO HAVE... appreciate it while I would keep thinking about what goes behind the making of such tasty food.” Shares the ever-smiling Chef. In fact, it was his mother, who having realized his interests, pushed him to pursue hotel management. When asked about a signature style of cooking, he said that having a signature style is not really a necessity. He did not claim to have a signature style at all, because for him having strong basics
are fundamental. It is these very basics that help him twist and turn and tweak any ingradient, recipe, or presentation and add a touch of his personality to the same. When it comes to key ingredients, Chef Pednekar relies heavily on fresh herbs, as he believes that their aroma and flavor have the power to make or break any given dish! Being responsible for three different outposts must be a difficult job we asked. To this, he smiled and replied. “Yes, it is a challenging task indeed as it always keeps me on my toes. However, I guess that is also important. My passion keeps me going and makes me want to experiment every single time I enter the kitchen.” The vision for the food at The Woodside Inn is that of a homely feel, while serving up classic as well as deconstructed European as well as American dishes. The vibe is relaxed, yet classy and the menu is an exhaustive one, which can easily overwhelm and confuse most foodies. Upon being asked for recommendations from the menu, Chef chose his version of the vegetarian spanakopita, stuffed ridged gourd with assorted bell peppers, and Pondicherry guyere cheese stuffed with dates and tomato sauce. We too tried a few options at the restaurant and the duo melon with feta cheese, as well as the tortellini with stuffed caramelized onions in a mushroom, cream and spinach gravy were our favourites. That apart, the burgers as well as the pizzas are exhaustive in variety and should be definitely tried! “Ever since the time I started out, the food industry has seen major changes. Today mixology and molecular gastronomy are on the rise. In addition, keeping up with the trends can be really challenging. But I certainly believe that classic and flavorful dishes will never go out of style, which is why food patrons keep coming back to us.” Explained Chef Pednekar, when asked about competition, and his ways to tackle it. If you are on the lookout to delve into his food, then do not miss the Sunday brunch at The Woodside Inn!

Hi Guys! It’s April! Who wants to be foolish this month? By the way have you ever imagined why April 1st is celebrated as a fool day? Well, the history goes back to France sometime in 1582, when France switched from the Julian calendar to the Gregorian calendar. So, all the people were not aware of this big change and the news that New Year day had been moved to January 1. There were still some people who were celebrating April 1st as their New Year day thereby becoming the butt of the jokes. Funny! Alright! Time to unquote some quotes, but this time I am in no serious mood so let’s have some fun this April… Every time I lose some weight, I find it again in the refrigerator EVERY GIRLS STORY! Or just let’s say many people will relate to this one. Raising my both the hands and nodding my head up and down and screaming - 1000% I relate to this! No matter how much I exercise or do yoga or go for walk or play any sport, somehow I end up eating more and more because my brain is not my control and it says “Omg, you lost so many calories lets regain them and have that awesome sweet waiting for you in the refrigerator!” And if this is not less than my favorite chips will be crying for me from the supermarket and I end up consoling them by eating them too! And oops the story goes on and on and on and so the calorie intake. MATH – Mental Abuse to Humans Not being rude, this is applicable for me and you can just tag yourself if too can relate to this. Till now in my life I have not used algebra, I have not used trigonometry, Pythagoras theorem etc. The things that use in my daily life are + - */ %. Then why I was taught such difficult terms. STUDENTS, I have been through this, but you shouldn’t read this quote as it may harm your exams!

Today I am as motivated as the designer of the Japanese flag All the Japanese people if you are here in India please do not take this personally. But sometimes the motivation levels are just like flat and plain and you just don’t want to do anything, but slouching in your bed or couch watching random channels on idiot box, eating chips and having soft drink and not worrying about anything. Do you go through that phase? I do! It’s that boring phase of our lives where the clock stops ticking, wind stops blowing; birds stop chirping and sun stops shining. But as Albert Einstein has correctly quoted: The difference between stupidity and genius is that genius has its limits Going by this quotes, let’s get our motivation levels higher and start to stop being stupid and focus on the right things. Have an awesome April.

UPHOLDING ART TO THE FOREFRONT
32
April 2016 | Volume1 Issue 12 | Living Local Mumbai (Andheri West Edition)
ONE FINE DAY, AS PER HIS HOBBY, HE WAS ATTENDING JUST ANOTHER ART EXHIBITION IN TOWN..... Art is something that Rajiv holds sacred. One fine day, as per his hobby, he was attending just another art exhibition in town. It so happened that he liked a particular piece at the exhibition, and wanted to buy it. However, the artist retailing at the exhibition said that he could only pay in cash and there was no ATM close by for Rajiv to go and withdraw cash. This particular incident hit him with a thought. Most art retailers and artists make good stuff, unusual products, and the like. However, what they lack is the skill, as well as the infrastructure to market and portray their art. Something as simple as the lack of an ATM machine near the exhibition venue is reason enough for an artist to lose a sale. This is how the idea for Arty Owl came into place. A businessperson of over eighteen years, Rajiv holds experience as well as expertise in areas of marketing as well as operations. Coupled with his zeal for art and quirky products, he came up with the idea of a marketplace for artists where they can exhibit their works and reach out to a larger audience. He brainstormed with a few of his friends, out of which, two of them even joined in as partners. Today, Arty Owl as an art marketplace is run by Rajiv, and his two partners, Ameya and Smitha. “Whenever I would go to an exhibition or a pop up, I always wondered whether these artists were making any real profits or not. Most exhibitions have really high charges for stalls, and do not last beyond three days. I would always think if the artists were even breaking even in terms of cost. Also, these do not generally result in long term sales because how many of us frankly even remember to follow up with these guys despite taking their cards.” Stated Rajiv as he explained the issues that most upcoming artists face in terms of marketing their products. Arty Owl, the aim is just that. The aim is to provide a platform to budding artists be it in the sphere of
wood, leather, paper, glass or any other form of art. This particular platform is a way for an artist to list himself as well as his products online and become accessible to a much larger audience. It also rules away the issues that crop up with regards to payments or having to deal with cash. “Our aim, however is not to become another e-commerce giant which is why we have been very stringent and strict when it comes to what kind of art goes up on Arty Owl. It should always have the uniqueness, or what I like to call as, the wow factor. We aim to showcase never seen before products and hence are continuously on the lookout for such artists.” Rajiv added. Arty Owl currently has amazing pieces in wood, leather, glass and even bamboo! Particular mention to a wooden watch box that can be customized with your name or initials with burnt wood and I feel is a must have for watch connoisseurs. The collection in leather, from wallets to meeting pouches that hold your laptop along with other necessary meeting essentials are also one of a kind. Artist at Arty Owl have been sourced from across the country, and the delivery is country extensive. When asked about the plan of Arty Owl, Rajiv explained that the current goal is to tap the Indian artists, as there is plenty of unexplored art within the country itself. In fact, he is also in talks with a couple of NGO’s to collaborate and display indigenous art as well. Within the year, they aim to list over two hundred different artists, and eventually go global with rise in popularity. Most of us generally pass by art with a lot of appreciation, but it is limited to just that. It is however, people like Rajiv who actually turn their appreciation into inspiration and are actually putting in effort to change the art scene in our country. DREAM BELIEVE SUCCEED REPEAT! I GREW UP ADMIRING MY FATHER AND HIS SKILL FOR BUSINESS. HOW HE MADE A LOT OF MONEY NEVER CEASED TO FASCINATE ME...
34
grew up admiring my father and his skill for business. How he made a lot of money never ceased to fascinate me. At a tender age it was apparent to me that dad did not work for anyone but for himself, and this made a very significant impact on my growing up years.
My most distinct memory dates back to the holidays during my school days which would coincide with the financial year end of my dad’s company. Even back then going to my dad’s office excited me and what made a considerable impression on my mind were the bundles of ‘cheques’ and a briefcase of money that I would see. My young mind calculated that dad worked hard for an entire year; but the fruit of labor would be paid off at the yearend which would bring him a briefcase of money. I grew up wanting that briefcase of money and not the monthly miserly pocket money that almost felt synonymous to the salaries that many get on a job. I made up my mind to toil for the briefcase that I could own. ‘Philosopher’s Stone’ happened when I realized the gap between the Industrial and corporate requirements and our education system. Academia plays a pivotal role in shaping the budding

intellectuals of tomorrow but they don’t really seem to live upto those corporate standards. I decided to step in and do something about it. I would guide and counsel confused students about right career choices; how they could excel at the course they’ve selected, what add on courses they could do to equip themselves to be the best fresher candidate and so on. I only wanted to help those who needed the guidance. In my endeavor to help, I developed a module that acts like tiny capsules of thorough knowledge in various subjects like Spoken English, Soft skills and development etc. It’s like a crash course of that subject. But, to be able to benefit a large number of students in achieving their academic goals I realized I could no longer be the only force working towards the module, I needed industry and educational experts joining hands with me. To bring them in I needed a set up. The birth of my educational venture, Philosopher’s Stone, not only merged my passion for guiding, counseling and teaching but also paved way for my childhood dream to come true. Perhaps, it is now time to buy my own briefcase.

A FEATHER IN THE CAP OF OUR GLORIOUS HOOD BHAVAN’S CULTURAL CENTRE, ANDHERI (BCCA) Dear hooders! You all must have heard about Bhavans College in Andheri west, but did you know that it is also a Centre for Performing Arts, and some of the most prolific and amazing artists of the music world have performed in the auditoriums and open air theatre housed in the college campus. Bhavan’s Cultural Centre Andheri (BCCA) was the result of the missionary zeal & vision of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan’s Founder Kulapati Dr. K. M. Munshi and it represents cultural and spiritual life of India over the centuries and also the intellectual growth and maturing of the nation. Munshiji visualized a multi-dimensional, multi-cultural, multi linguistic, multi religious center within the Andheri Campus of Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan basically for preserving Indian heritage of performing arts, classical music and dance forms. It is very important to remember the Founder of the Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan (of which the Cultural center is a branch), Late Shri Kulapathi Dr.K M Munshiji. He was a true far-sighted visionary and practical idealist. Bharatiya Vidya Bhavan was founded by him in 1938 with the blessings of Mahatma Gandhi. He wanted the Bhavan to contribute towards the growth of education, languages, arts and culture in the country. The Cultural center is thus engaged in promoting culture

Believe me dear hooders one visit to the Centre office and one walk down the campus with its magnificent Shiva temple and greenery all around, you may not want to go back home. Mr Lalit Shah, Administrator of BCCA, says: “Today looking at its phenomenal growth it is obvious from high audience presence for the programs offered during the year that Bhavan’s Cultural Centre has gained a wide popularity and recognition in this part of the metropolis beyond our wildest expectations. Contemporary thought provoking drama, creating awareness about ecology and heritage, screening of creative cinema and other cultural events are promoted keeping in mind community’s aesthetic faculties. ” Mr. Lalit Varma Program Coordinator, a musician himself, assists in choosing the right type of Classical Music recitals to cater to the sensibilities of the audience.

SUCCESS RADICALLY Neha Motwani, CEO, Fitternity When a personal cause fuels you to create something new, the outcome is always commendable. The same happened to Neha Motwani, CEO of Fitternity, who when challenged by the availability of fitness related platforms, decided to create one herself, to enhance the fitness journey of millions in the country. We got a chance to catch up with this successful woman, who has been making waves over the past two years, and she happily answered a few of our questions! Read on! What exactly was your fitness journey like? Please share with us in details. I am an avid fitness enthusiast. From Yoga to Zumba, Gym to Crossfit, I’ve done it all. That being said, I’m thrilled to find a new fitness form that can keep me engaged every month. I’m keen to try out Aerial Yoga, TRX and Masala Bhangra soon. And I have to add, working at Fitternity helps this even more. I also enjoy a good jog / run on some days when I’m not able to hit the gym or a studio or just feel like being outdoors.
and my husband strengthened my resolve to dive into entrepreneurship. When it comes to your closest friends, family, and spouse it is always better to have your concept and business to be well received by them, since they drive your convictions, work as a great sounding board for taking decisions and help you personally to cope with the demands a startup poses professionally How easy or difficult was it to create and start? Fitternity came out of a user gap that I experienced in my personal fitness journey. Having a busy work schedule with a lot travel as a consultant – gave very little time for fitness. There was a constant challenge to find something interesting to stay fit and then stick to it. Everyone around me also seemed to be facing similar challenges. When I shifted houses – this issue became more evident. That is when I realized that while it was so easy to find a restaurant, book a hotel, find coupons for your next purchase at the local store – when it comes to fitness, there is no platform that makes it easy for users to access fitness services available in their vicinity.
A successful MBA, and a job later, what was it that pushed you to start your own firm? I have always been one to make work fun. I thoroughly enjoyed my stint in the corporate world and always wanted to explore the fun of starting something of my own. I decided to jump into entrepreneurship when the idea of Fitternity started taking shape. I have always loved fitness (in any form) and have always yearned for a smarter way to explore fitness. Fitternity was that answer I needed to meet my personal and professional goals. The support I received from my parents, mother-in-law

When a personal cause fuels you to create something new, the outcome is always commendable. The same happened to Neha Motwani, CEO of Fitternity, who when challenged by the availability of fitness related platforms....

We started at a time when we were the only platform in India for fitness services and now we have over 50 startups trying to compete in the space. Our experience in the segment helps us stand out in the space, hence we are currently the biggest fitness platform and most funded startup in the space. As a woman, do you think it was more difficult for you to establish an idea of your own? Entrepreneurs cannot setup without their fair share of difficulties. And like any entrepreneur I had my chunk of difficulties too. Earlier women did find it more difficult to venture out, though now the tides have changed for the better. The biggest and perhaps the classic challenge we face as aggregators is balancing demand (fitness consumers seeking fitness) & supply (fitness service providers – gym/studio owners & trainers) - Who’s problem are we solving first? Which problems are larger? How to fortify one side of the market? How to cater to demand with short supply and generate value to the supply side without having enough demand? Fitternity has raised two rounds of funding. What do you credit that to? I would give credit to the Fail Fast – Learn Fast – Improve Faster philosophy of ours for our success. Having a rock star team that understands the business and customers’ needs is a blessing and having investors that believe in our idea and take a step forward to guide, us as well make this an enjoyable and rewarding journey. Lastly, but never the least, the customers that enjoy our services are one of the primary reasons we have received our funding. What is the most difficult part about your role? As the CEO and Founder, my role requires constant coordination with stakeholders, employees, and customers (both intrinsic and external) and directing the path, you would want them to take and shaping the platform to meet their needs.
Where do you see this going in the coming years? It has been a great journey so far. Our business has quadrupled in the last 6 months – with monthly unique visitors, transactions and sales of fitness memberships growing at 30% every month. We are planning to venture into more cities in the next 3-6 months. Currently our operations are in Mumbai, Delhi, Bangalore & Pune. We are looking to add Ahmedabad, Hyderabad & Chennai in the list. Our free mobile app is also going to be out within March 2016 across iOS and Android app stores which will enable users to book workout sessions in a ‘pay-per-use’ format where users will now be able to combine different forms of workout in their routine and not miss their workouts if they’re travelling to a city we’re present in. What does success mean to you? Success is the reason to hit office smiling on a Monday morning and the reason to celebrate on a weekend. What would be your message to the women out there who are also looking out to carve a niche for themselves? Believe in what you wish to achieve and just go for it. Ask yourself what worst could come out of experimenting / failing at the first attempt? But ensure you do your homework – research, study, live and breathe your idea. JEWEL SHOPPING CENTER by Zeba Akhtar
More often than not, when the conversation turns to the hood of Andheri West, it somehow goes mellowed down by how new or upcoming the hood is. Posing a challenge or rather a contrast to this very belief, is a place that is still seething in the oldness of things, while slowly letting in place for the new. The place we chronicled this month is Jewel Shopping Center on Jai Prakash Road, commonly known as 7 Bungalows, very close to the famous Nana Nani Park. Now if you were to take a passing glace while on your way to Versova, you may even miss it. However, if you walk past the seven Bungalows and Versova junction and towards J.P Road, you will find this quaint little shopping center, settled in a distance. From what the shopkeepers told me, Jewel Shopping Center is over thirtyfive years old. A walk through the small market is enough to remind you of the days when these kinds of open markets and small shops were commonplace. An era that existed before the advent of the high-end shopping malls that are cropping up in each hood. Jewel Shopping center used to be the place where the residents of Versova usually did their shopping from. It houses the ever-famous Thakur cut piece store owned by Mr. Mahesh Makhija and has been the oldest stores of the shopping center. The store is known to be frequented by celebrities and designers alike and has gained a special reputation for itself. Next up is Mitty, a pottery learning and design studio, owned by Mr. Vinod Dubey. Mitty has been there for three generations and happens to be one of a kind studio in the whole of Andheri West. While Mitty designs, it is Shira, another store dedicated to crockery that markets these designs to big corporate hotels and the likes. That apart, you have Patel Opticians, a trusted optical store known for its reasonable pricing. Golden Choice is one of the oldest and noteworthy store for Indian wear and is a choice amongst many residents. The old and small shopping center also ends in two really dynamic places. WTF! Versova, is a known destination for drinks in the vicinity and is forever packed, even on weekends. Similar is the case for the Treesome CafĂŠ located right next to WTF! and has a good claim to fame for its live music and great ambience. If you happen to stay anywhere close to this shopping center, then one visit is a must!

CRICKETERS
INTERACT AT CELEBRATIONS
CLUB! By Zeba Akhtar
The Celebrations Club of Lokhandwala added another feather to its cap on March 11, 2016! Famous cricketers from three different teams visited the club for an event to talk about the ICC Cricket World Cup T20 for the year 2016. Virender Sehwag from the Indian Cricket team, along with Mahela Jayawardane of Sri Lanka and Dwayne Bravo from the West Indies Cricket team graced the occasion with their presence. The event was an entry by invite only and saw a great footfall.Dwayne Bravo was the first to arrive and interacted with the press separately. He seemed pretty kicked by the upcoming season and also spoke about his love for India. The cricketer also spoke of his song, Champion which he released on the 14th of March, in Mumbai. The actor is also known for his singing skills and is set to venture into the entertainment industry as well! The secretary of the club, Mr. Hemant Nair said that it was a proud moment for Andheri to be welcoming these cricketing giants. After the brief interaction, they went on to the stage at the lawns, where they spoke about the potential of cricket in India. Things took a lighter note when Bravo actually danced for the crowds and set everyone in a cheerful mood. The club saw a huge number of kids who had come in with their autograph books and were extremely excited to see their idols on stage. We would love to see more of such interactive events in our hood! Won’t you? April 2016 | Volume 1 Issue 12 | Living Local Mumbai (Andheri West Edition) 41

This seems to be a great time for cricket buffs to have some fun! The 2016 Indian Premiere League or IPL as we fondly call it has a lot of different twists and turns. DO NOT TAKE THE PLANET FOR GRANTED !
EARTH DAY W
ell, more often than not, we have wondered what exactly are we doing with the planet we live on!
Celebrities, NGO’s, as well as the common man have stood up time and again to volunteer to protect the earth we live on, not just for ourselves, but also for out forthcoming generations! For the past forty five years, 22nd of April has been celebrated as World Earth Day. A day, where we honor, respect and vow to protect where we live. After all, the Earth is the only planet that has oxygen on it! Let’s know a little bit more about what exactly does the Earth Day imply, and how we can do our significant little bit for the same! The Earth Day organization has been down to a mission. The goal is to plant approximately 7.8 billion trees until the next five years. They are calling out for donations as well as tree planting sessions. After all, the rate at which we have been producing carbon dioxide
sure does need some salvaging! Waste, not only in terms of gases, but also in terms of solid waste is a major issue that has been the sole cause of different diseases, habitat destruction, as well as pollution. As citizens, it is our duty to manage waste effectively. Do not fill your plate up with the food you can’t finish, and do not use plastic when you can use bio-degradable materials. The key to minimize waste comes from the three requisite R’s. Reduce, Reuse, And Recycle! Yes, reduce the waste you create in the first place. Things such as cloth bags, paper bags and even used plastic bags need not be discarded, they can be used repeatedly. Similarly, there are a large number of ways to make compost at home and recycle your waste. Why litter when you can save? Do little deeds! More often than not, we think that only major environment conservation programs can be of help. However, just imagine that if everyone
on the earth starts doing his or her little bit, the impact shall be massive. Start with simple things such as turning the tap off while brushing, or taking carpooling instead of driving alone in a car, or switching off the lights and fans while leaving the room. The earth has a limited supply of everything; make sure you use it to the best capacity! Teach and spread awareness! Yes, this is the most basic, and the most vital bit. Most of us do not even know about the hazards we pose to the earth. If you know about these things, then the first step is to educate others. Children need to be taught the importance of respecting their surroundings, and will eventually grow up with a caring attitude towards nature. Most importantly, practice. Only preaching will not do. You have to practice and lead by example, because after all, we are all in this together! As Leonardo Di Caprio mentioned in his Oscar speech, “Do not take the planet for granted!”

REIFYING TRADITIONS
IN
FITNESS
I
t is easy to sail through an already established system. A firm, a business, or a set up. However, what’s challenging is taking up the cudgels as well as the risk, to twist the old, and turn it out into something new and evolutionary! This is exactly what Ali and Pawan, founders of Techfit are up to. Belonging to traditionally industrial families, these two had the zeal to brainstorm and come up with an idea of their own. It was one fine day, while playing FIFA with one another that the base idea for their fitness start up, Techfit was born. Sensing a dip in traditional industries, and a rise in the sector of fitness, they knew that they had to come up with something out of the box to target customers and capture the market for good. “The fitness industry in India largely
44
depends upon exports. What seems extremely farfetched and fancy to most of us can actually be manufactured within the country and that too at a much lesser rate. The trouble is that we do not have enough awareness about this.” Explained Ali, as he spoke about how the potential for manufacturing fitness products and equipment was massive yet unexplored in the country. To this, Pawan added that, “It is this much unexplored market that we are looking towards tapping and changing for the better. Techfit, with its vision of ‘Powering Your Fitness” is all about empowering the fitness scene in India with the best quality products, that always need not necessarily be imported at heavy costs from outside.” You name it, they can make it, is the approach that Techfit follows. From mixed marital arts cages, to bacteria free dumbbells, kettle bells, free weights, grappling mats, Olympic rods, as well as personalized cross fit rigs. The duo are also in the process of beginning to launch and market their own range of strength and cardio equipment under the range called ‘Fitness Recall’. Techfit aims to become a one-stop solution for all fitness needs. They also provide fitness consultancy in the form of helping you create and establish your own gym space, be it for personal or commercial use. From interiors, to equipment, they help provide all solutions as per the client’s budget. The startup derives its mix from its founders itself. Being a fitness enthusiast for a number of years, Pawan has his meticulous expertise in the feel and utility of the products that they design and is always eager to work their products towards betterment. On the other hand, Ali’s knowledge of raw
April 2016 | Volume1 Issue 12 | Living Local Mumbai (Andheri West Edition)
materials and the manufacturing industry makes it convenient for them to keep experimenting with quality. When asked about what does each of them love about their job, both seemed pretty complacent with their part of the work. While Pawan handles the business development and sales aspect of the firm, Ali takes care of all the manufacturing. “It’s amazing and at the same time pretty frustrating because there are days when a product can get stalled for one missing bolt, and then it takes an entire day to get it in place, but at the end of it, it is always fun to see the finished product.” Grins Ali. “Meeting people and exploring contacts comes pretty naturally to me, and I can’t really complain about my role. I think the both of us have pretty much carved out our roles conveniently. Of course we are there to help with feedback to each other whenever needed.” Added in Pawan. With humble beginnings, and major success within just a year, the goal is to become pioneers in the fitness industry, and the foundation has already been set by securing a lot of big names, including celebrities within their kitty of clients. However, both Pawan and Ali agree to maintain a decent pace rather than hurrying up too fast. We wish them all the success!

The Mixed Age Group in the Montessori class-room
T
he Montessori environment is developed in a way that children between the ages of two and a half to six years, can work at their development not only as individuals but also as productive members of society. There is a harmonious interaction between the children and their environment – i.e. the materials, the teacher and his peer group. The children do not work in isolation but in harmony with their fellow classmates, and this is the beginning of their social development. Another feature is that children were grouped in mixed-age classrooms, rather than being segregated age-wise. Let us consider the reasons that Dr. Montessori advocated having children of mixed ages between the ages of two and a half to six years in the House of Children.
C
hildren between the ages of two and a half to six years are all in the same plane of development.
So they all have similar needs - Their physical, emotional, mental, spiritual and psychological needs are met within the mixed age-group i.e. it helps them find the means to satisfy all these needs.
D
uring this period of development, these children all have the same Sensitive Periods. The characteristic or function that has been acquired by one child who maybe slightly older (five years) will serve as inspiration (psychical food) for the younger child (e.g. two and a half to three years) who is still in the process of acquiring that characteristic or function. The material provided in the environment is presented, and the way in which the older children use them, stimulates the child’s interest.
I
n a Montessori House of Children each child is admitted into the environment at two years of age for approximately three years till he is six years old. Each year the six year olds leave the environment and a corresponding number of new children who are two and a half years old are admitted. Thus each year approximately one third of the child’s companions are new. Thus the older children help ‘settle’ the new children into the environment.
I
n the Montessori classroom, the teacher is not the primary focus of the classroom; the child is. Who better to learn from than your own peers? They have already had the presentations and had individual practice with the material. They are truly the ‘experts’ in the classroom. Additionally, it is a delight to watch the joy and appreciation of the older students when their younger peers learn something new. There is a purity of emotion and lack of competition and the younger students have a true sense of accomplishment. Values of sharing, working harmoniously and respect for the peers and materials are not something that then need to be taught but instead absorbed joyfully by the children.

IS YOUR
CHILD
BETWEEN 0 TO 6 YEARS by Nivedita Mataliya
Nivedita Mataliya is a counseling psychologist specializing in children and relationship counseling
THE BRAIN OF A THREE YEAR OLD IS TWO-AND-A-HALF TIMES MORE ACTIVE THAN AN ADULT’S THERE ARE FERTILE TIMES WHEN THE BRAIN IS ABLE TO WIRE SPECIFIC SKILLS AT AN OPTIMUM LEVEL SCIENTIFICALLY CALLED “WINDOWS OF OPPORTUNITY” The importance associated with early childhood development is growing exponentially and rightly so. Let us understand what makes this stage of development so unique and important.
NATURE AND NURTURE The genetic makeup of your child is the blueprint for development. However, it is the child’s environment that has an immense effect on his/her development. It is the conduciveness of the environment in the form of appropriate experiences, stimulation, and exposure at the right time, that are crucial determinants of the way each child’s brain architecture develops. It is therefore an interplay of nature and nurture (genes and environment) that influences a child’s development.
SERVE AND RETURN Research points that a major ingredient in the developmental process is the “serve and return" relationship. Young children communicate through babbling and gestures and adults respond with vocalizing and gesturing back at them. In the absence of such response, or if the responses are inappropriate, the brain’s architecture does not form as expected, which has a significant impact on cognitive, emotional and social development.
46
NEUROPLASTICITY This refers to the flexibility and the adaptability of the brain. Just as clay, when new, is very flexible and malleable but with time it gradually begins to harden. In the same way, the brain is most flexible, or “plastic,” early in life to accommodate a wide range of environments and interactions, but as the maturing brain becomes more specialized to assume more complex functions, it is less capable of reorganizing and adapting to new or unexpected challenges.
NUTRITION Unbalanced diet and malnutrition will hinder the child’s growth. “Recent studies of early childhood investments have shown remarkable success and indicate that the early years are important for early learning. Moreover, early childhood interventions of high quality have lasting effects on learning and motivation. As a society, we cannot afford to postpone investing in children until they become adults, nor can we wait until they reach school age – a time when it may be too late to intervene.”- James J. Heckman, 2000 Nobel Laureate in Economic Sciences, Henry Schultz Distinguished Professor of Economics
April 2016 | Volume1 Issue 12 | Living Local Mumbai (Andheri West Edition)
In this final part of our series on ADHD, we will focus on the most important component and that is what you can do as parents to help your child. Here goes: The importance of early child development is supreme and incomparable. As parents, you want the best for your child. Therefore, it is imperative to combine intent with awareness. Optimising the growth potential of your child is only possible with a holistic effort. At Life Quotient, we believe that it is easier to raise a child better than to repair a broken adult. As part of this initiative, we have organised an orientation on “The Importance of Brain Development in Early Childhood” which includes What and how is the brain development taking place in my child? What is the significance of development at this age? What is the critical period? What does it mean for our child?

TAURUS (April 21st-May 20th): Between your friends and you, is promised a hugely comfortable, entertaining and happy time, this month. Health will be good and finances stable.
48
LEO (July 22nd-August 22nd): You are tuned in to enthusiastic energies, this month, but don’t make it all about work or achieving goals. You will gain far more by letting yourself have fun, and allowing friendly folks closer into your arena. Health will benefit from conventional care. Finances may experience expenditure, so make it work for you. VIRGO (August 23rd-September 22nd): If you hold on to the worthiness of your innate nature, and do not become ungrounded under any circumstances, this is all the work you need to do to have a great month. (September 23rd-October 22nd):
You are in a good place this month to practise your core beliefs, irrespective of what you experience. You will gain in exact terms, also in matters of health and finances. So orientate yourself to the higher good. AQUARIUS (January 20th–February 18th): Rely on your great understanding of what is suitable, to make a good deal out of this month.
