Here’s a very simple message and note this month from my desk… Have a great Christmas spirit this month. Feel good and colorful. Share gifts, make people happy, make a wish to Santa (in your heart he is as real as it gets). Let the Tree of Christmas light up your house with all the gifts. Like every small decoration and ornament on the Christmas tree adds to the overall feel of the tree.. may every moment and incident in your life be a decoration in your tree of life. On a lighter note… Go throw an imaginary snow-ball at a loved one… Go and make a snow-angel with the sand on the beach. Go be the beautiful fun-loving you.

for a balanced closet by GAURI GUPTA A Certified Image Consultant gauri8gupta@gmail.com
Do you absolutely love the clothes that are in your closet? “NO-O-O, is usually the response.
In today’s world, people do not plan their wardrobe. They run to the store at the last minute and grab whatever suits their fancy for the occasion.
“It just needs a little fixing and it will be fine.” It’s hung there for few years. You know you are never going to fix it. Please donate.
There is no thought given as to how the garment fit their body shape or even into their existing wardrobe-pieces that were never quite right but we stubbornly try to make it work. These garments end up at the end of your closet rod, never to be worn again-and yes, they make a lot of people feel guilty about the waste. We wear 20% of our clothing 80% of the time, while the other 80% are hardly worn.
“But it was so expensive!” No matter what the cost, if you will never wear it and its left in your closet, it’s an additional waste of valuable space.
Give everything a hard look and try get rid of it, without giving excuses. There are many EXCUSES you might give that make this task difficult to do. Which of the following sounds most like you? “But I might need it some day.” You wont. “I will get back in shape soon.” Size -smaller clothes can be an incentive. They can also put you on a terrible guilt trip and make you feel miserable every time you see them hanging. You don’t need that. If you keep the big ones, chances are you will get back into them. You don’t need that either. It is better to accept your present weight and keep what fits.
“The fabric is still good and the quality is fantastic.” Don’t be a slave to that one. Good quality is not enough if the clothes are outdated. “But it brings back such wonderful memories.” This is not the time to get sentimental over clothes you have once enjoyed. One must dispose these clothes fast, or they will end up back in your closet. If you feel that these clothes are in a good condition and would look nice on someone else, and will be appreciated by family or friends then the first choice is to give it to them. It feels nice that someone special is wearing a favorite item of
yours. Clothes in a good condition that you do not use might help someone in need, so please donate in a charitable institution. WHAT IS DE-CLUTTERING? De cluttering means to remove things you do not use so that you have more space and can easily find things when you need them. Therefore, it is important to discard clothes that don’t meet your needs: 1. CLOTHES TOO SMALL OR TOO SHORT, no matter how new. This includes jackets, which bind in the armpits or elbows, the waistline, anything that pulls because it’s too tight. Such clothes are a constant reminder of your size; making you self-conscious or others conscious of your body bulges, reinforcing feelings of inferiority with each movement or glance in the mirror. 2. CLOTHES TOO LARGE OR TOO LONG: If they don’t fit and if they cannot be altered easily, we need to discard them, no matter how nice they are. 3. CLOTHES THAT ARE UNCOMFORTABLE: If an item looks great in the mirror, but the fabric scratches or rubs a red spot on your skin, we need to discard it.
“It might come back into style.” It won’t. (Not exactly the same), details change and they start looking dreary. “But it was a gift.” Gifts are symbols of love. Keep the love and let go of the symbol. www.shutterstock.com/ Jenn Huls
4. CLOTHES OUT OF DATE: No matter how sentimental you are about them, no matter how much they cost or how good the fabric still is. It happens all the time. Lapels get wider, shoulder gets narrower, trim goes out of style and so on. 11
5. CLOTHES WORN-OUT: Anything stained, faded, frayed, rotten under the arms especially the white shirts. They all deserve retirement. 6. CLOTHES THAT NO LONGER FIT YOUR IMAGE: Your aesthetic values, personality or lifestyle. Clothes that conflict with the accuracy of the image you want to project are not worth keeping. Life goes on, and the way you look is one thing that changes with the changes in your life. If you cant update the look of your clothes please discard them. WHAT IS MEANT BY A BALANCED CLOSET The biggest closet challenge is not enough space and to figure out the biggest clutter offender will help you maintain a clean and an organized closet. Are your shoes overtaking space (my answer is: yes!)? Try hanging a shoe rack or over the door organizer. Do your clothes overcrowd? Use thinner hangers; they create space so you can find things easier. Feeling rushed every morning? Dividing shirts, dresses, Indian suits, jeans etc.

bring a sense of order and saves time. To have a well-balanced closet load up on your basics, go easy on the patterns and indulge in one showstopper for special occasions. A versatile closet is achieved when you have the perfect balance of several wardrobe elements. BASICS Your closet has seen trends come and go, but the basics that perfectly worn are white tee shirts, your trusty blue jeans and nude flats-are forever. Build a strong foundation with strategic selection of basics that will mix with almost everything in your closet. These styles never go out of style, and are the building blocks to the perfect wardrobe. TOPS VS BOTTOMS In order to create the most versatile wardrobe the majority of your wardrobe should be composed of tops. In fact the perfect balance is a 70/30 ratio with 70% of your wardrobe invested in tops. People remember your top more vividly than the bottom, so by investing in tops, you are able to create the perception that you have more outfits than you actually do.
SOLIDS VS PRINTS A wardrobe that is composed entirely of solid pieces is boring, however a wardrobe, which is entirely made up of patterns, is not versatile. Hence, balance the solid versus prints that you own. Therefore, the ratio should be 60/40 where 60% are solid pieces and 40% are patterned pieces. DRESSY VS CASUAL The ratio of dressy versus casual pieces in your wardrobe will depend on your own lifestyle. If you are working in a multinational company then your wardrobe needs to be dressier, more solid pieces of clothing with dark colors. On the other hand if you have a casual lifestyle then casual dressing is appropriate. YOUR CLOSET IS ALL ABOUT EVOLVING Closet evaluation and inventory is part of an ongoing process. Because you understand your clothing needs and your preferences your wardrobe will slowly evolve from one look to another, reflecting changes in your body, your workplace, your family, your responsibilities and your lifestyle.

WHIP your LAZY money to look better
www.shutterstock.com/ Sergey Nivens
Today, most of us push ourselves to do better. So be it fresh learning, taking on new assignments at work, doing cardio training or being connected 24 by 7 even if we are on holiday, the mantra is Be Active, Live Better. Being a financial planner, I come across many people each day who talk about their investments but I hardly find anyone who doesn’t have lazy money lying around. Now what exactly do I mean by lazy money? It is money in your life, which is performing to less than its true potential or just being spent through inefficient systems or structures. I come across investors are having huge amount of money lying in their savings bank accounts earning 4% p.a. , or if they run businesses, have monies that lie in current accounts waiting for needs in business earning zero returns. As we enter 2015 and make our resolutions for the New Year, in addition to looking better and being healthier, we also urge investors to put their lazy money to better use. Why so much money in the bank accounts? We have found that it gives great psychological comfort to keep a high balance in bank accounts – you never know when you need it. Sometimes, we are not quite sure where we can deploy this money or some people keep it as a contingency or emergency fund. In our experience, an emergency fund only requires a certain amount in your bank account. A family having monthly expenses of Rs 1 lakh per month would require approx Rs 4 lakhs as an emergency fund to cover 3 -4 months. But should all of this be left in your savings account. Also being an Andheri local, we have eye-catching restaurants, salons, gyms, cinemas, bars and much more entertaining stuff which can make us overspend if we have too much money lying in savings
accounts. So what’s the alternative for parking savings balance? There are of course payments of various types that one may need to make over different intervals of time and prepare in advance for them. These may include children’s school fees, EMI or rent for a house, monthly grocery, utility payments, etc. While in most cases the exact time of payment is known, it may not be so on certain occasions. In either case, using a liquid fund or ultras short term fund would certainly suit the bill. What is a Liquid Fund? A Liquid fund or ultra short term fund is a kind of fixed income oriented fund, which offers both a high degree of liquidity and attractive returns. You don’t get guaranteed returns but it is a very low risk instrument and do not make any investments in the stock market. A lot of large companies use liquid or ultra short term funds to put away their short term surpluses and call them back whenever
needed. In the last 1 year, liquid funds have on average delivered returns between 8%- 9%pa (Source -Internal Research). The best thing is that money from liquid funds can get credited to your bank account within 24 hours. You can also invest and remove monies through SMS, online or through ATM cards that can come with a liquid fund, thus making it operationally very simple. An annual membership at a reputed gym can cost you between Rs.4000050000. By using a liquid fund instead of a savings account, you can earn between Rs 40000 - Rs 50000 extra per annum, thus making your membership to the gym effectively free. Isn’t it cool to see your lazy cash earning higher returns? So if you can get your money working for you rather than you working for money, you can choose to live better and look better.

A tip for dressing for job interviews is to dress as you would for a client meeting: a little more formally than day-to-day business wear. This will help project an attitude of confidence and professionalism and let people know that power can be pretty too! Here are a few style tips helping you project the perfect corporate image. • The most important thing to remember is to be comfortable in your own skin. Clothes that are too tighthamper your productivity. If you’re fidgeting or constantly adjusting your neck, the ends of your shirt, you will be distracted all day. Be assured, others around you will notice the discomfort. If you feel confident wearing something it will automatically look great on you. if you’re constantly making adjustments, find another outfit! • Your clothes should be neat, crisp and subtle. Anything too loud, stark or shimmery will take the attention away from you and is not appropriate. • Beige, Blacks, grey and Navy Blues are always safe bets when wearing business suits, but don’t be afraid to try out more fun colours like a deepred or cream that
• Take a look at the people who are your colleagues and notice what their attire is. In most places shorts, short skirts and see through tops are a no-no; however that doesn’t mean you should compromise on your look! Wear a pencil skirt and team that up with a full sleeved shirt for a dynamic look. This look is great for a meeting, but in case you work in a more informal space, a linen blouse would look great with it too. Consider wearing a skincolor hose to give a neat finish. • Go for just one wow worthy accessory. Pearls, metals in shades like rosegold, ambre, antique golds are the new in thing. Choose just one piece, like a chunky necklace, a metallic belt or even just a great pair of heels.
the basics if you know they look good on you, and then pair them up with trendier items. For example, skinny black jeans may be your style. Stick with them and wear them with linen blouses, shirts or even kurtas so that you’re office ready and perfectly comfortable. • Buying separates in neutral colours is the key. For eg. A ruffled blouse and a skirt, or even a bold floral print dress gives you that added edge. Pant suits don’t have to be boring black even if you’re a senior. Go for greys, deep browns or olive and rustle your wardrobe up. Gone are the days of boring black suits. Show your feminine side with a dash of color and jewellery, or a scarf on your bag!
• A classy watch in silver-gold, beige or black adds to the look and can be worn with multiple outfits.
• In the mid 1980’s Donna Karan came and changed the way women looked at clothes with her bodysuits. Even now, the modern version of them, the jumpsuits look great on women and can be teamed with a blazer for a fresh look.
• Here’s something you can never go wrong with! Classic Silhouettes. Invest in
• Always carry a bag that goes with everything.Make sure that the handle is of a
convenient length. It saves you the effort of changing bags.Mind you, sling bags or clutches don’t look great at a meeting, • Avoid droopy shoulders and ill fitting tops, people perceive that as sloppy, take the effort to attach shoulder pads to fit your frame and give you shape.
Let your personality out of the closet and wear your style with confidence. Follow these tips and you’ll be all ready to show off your corporate ‘oomph’ image in no time to face another week at work!

arathon running has become one of the most glamorous and widely participated sporting events in India since the past few years. Long distance running or marathon running, involves running a full marathon (42Km), half marathon (21Km), 10 Km, 5Km. People may engage in it for recreation, as a form of physical exercise or for cultural reasons. It takes strength, speed, endurance and a good aerobic capacity to run such distances in order to avoid injuries. Some estimate that between, 37 to 56 percent of recreational runners who train and participate in long distance running periodically, will sustain injuries every year. Here are some of the most common injuries that plague runners:

Iliotibial (IT) band Syndrome Shin Splints Achilles Tendinitis Plantar Fascitis Hamstring strains Ankle Sprains WHAT IS IT BAND SYNDROME? It is the inflammation of the IT band, which is a thick band of fascia running down from your pelvic bone to the outside of the knee joint. While running, as the knee bends and straightens, this band slides forward and backward over a bony point on the outside of knee. This repetitive sliding creates excess friction, especially when the knee is bent at an angle of about 30 degrees (seen in long distance runners when the foot strikes the ground), thereby producing pain and inflammation. WHAT CAUSES IT BAND SYNDROME? • Improper running technique- especially inward rolling of the hips and knees • Sudden change in surface (soft to hard, flat to uneven or decline), speed and/or distance • Weak hip and core muscles 16
• Flat feet or poor arch control • Sudden increase in mileage for training • Improper footwear or worn out shoes COMMON SYMPTOMS WHICH YOU SHOULD LOOK FOR Most of our patients at PhysioRehab describe it as a sharp, stinging or burning pain just above the outer part of the knee which starts after running for a particular distance. “I just have to stop running atleast for a minute and only then i can continue the remaining run”, says Mr. Mehta. The pain worsens if you continue running or other repetitive activities and subsides with rest. Pain is experienced typically during early knee bending. GETTING THE (IT) BAND BACK TOGETHER Dr. Anjana Laungani, Consultant Physiotherapist and Head of PhysioRehab says “ IT band syndrome is one of the most common injuries seen in runners. If you want to treat this condition, the root cause or culprit should be addressed and not only the

STOP OR GO? Once you notice ITB pain, the best way to get rid of it for good is to rest immediately. That means fewer miles, or no running at all. While you’re backing off on your mileage, you can cross-train (Swimming, pool running or walking). When cross-training with ITB Syndrome, it’s important to pick exercises that don’t irritate the area. Stay away from the elliptical machine or exercises which involve constant bending at the knee because it puts more stress on the IT band. As you recover, start doing shorter, faster workout such as strides first, because they tend to irritate the IT band less than long, easy miles. TREAT IT Although runners usually reach for the foam roller when dealing with ITB syndrome, recent research says that it’s not the IT band’s fault in most cases. The problem is the soft tissue that’s pulling on the IT band, not the IT band itself. The foam roller doesn’t address the under-
lying issues like hip and glute muscle weakness. “To get to the root of the problem, specific tailormade strengthening exercises are vital for overcoming ITB syndrome”, says Dr. Purti Degwekar, Physiotherapist at PhysioRehab (Malad). Patients with ITB syndrome are given a tailor made program at PhysioRehab. Rest, icing, ultrasound and kinesiotaping are the primary treatment modalities in acute cases. Strengthening exercises of the glute (hip), knee and calf muscles soon follow. A lot of importance is also given to the strengthening of core muscles, which are believed to be the ‘power house’ while running. As the symptoms improve, agility training like jumps and sprints are started. Faulty foot alignments are corrected by appropriate orthotic insoles Faulty running style is addressed by the running coach with inputs from the physiotherapist Appropriate training schedule is planned
• Warm-up and stretch: Many injuries occur as a result of inadequate warm up. Before and after you run, stretch your muscles thoroughly - especially your calf, hamstrings, glutes and quadriceps. • Always decrease your mileage or take a few days off if you feel pain on the outside of your knee. Walk a quarter- to half-mile before you start your runs. • Run in the middle of the road where it’s flat. Avoid running on concrete surfaces. • Be shoe smart: Wear proper-fitting socks and shoes with good support. If the soles of your running shoes have worn out, replace them. If you have foot problems, such as flat feet or high arches, schedule an evaluation with a podiatrist/ physiotherapist and consider using orthotic shoe inserts. • Avoid doing any type of exercises which puts strain on IT band, eg. Stair-climbing, squats. • Stay hydrated: Make sure you stay well hydrated on the especially on the days you run.

Have food allergies? Top tips for dining out and cooking at home (BPT) - An estimated 15 million people in the United States, including one in 13 children, suffer from food allergies, according to Food Allergy Research and Education (FARE). A wide range of reactions to food allergens can provide a unique set of challenges when dining out and even cooking at home. How can someone with food allergies still enjoy foods safely at home and while away?
Culinary professionals from The Art Institutes system of schools provide tips for navigating menus and recipes. Dining out “One of the most important things for people with food allergies is to be vocal about those food allergies,” says chef Jennifer Brooks-Stadler of The Illinois Institute of Art - Chicago. She says to make your allergies known, not only because of substitutions but also to ensure your meal hasn’t been prepared using cookware and utensils that have come in contact with the food you are allergic to. “Ten or more yeas ago, the restaurant industry wasn’t very receptive to food allergies, intolerances and menu item substitutions. Today, this is not the case,” says chef Andrew Dole of The Art Institute of Colorado. “The consumer is in the driver’s seat when it comes to ordering meal alterations.” To make dining experiences easier, Dole recommends looking up the menu or calling ahead to ask questions. Diners should also keep in mind that if they make special requests, they should allow for extra cooking time. Dole also advises having a few go-to restaurants where you can get a meal without a hassle. “This doesn’t mean that trying out new restaurants is out of the question, but at peak meal times or on busy nights of the week, it doesn’t hurt to go with what one knows,” he says.
In the kitchen Brooks-Stadler says there are three ways to work around a food allergy: reduce, replace or eliminate. “The home cook needs to know what they like and be willing to experiment a little,” she says. “There will be some fails.” Eggs and nuts are two common food allergens but there are ways to work around them when cooking at home. “The egg is a very versatile ingredient that provides structure, binding and leavening,” says Dole. “Substituting for one or two eggs requires knowing what role the egg is playing in the recipe.” For more than two eggs, Dole recommends looking for a new recipe that doesn’t incorporate eggs.
Brooks-Stadler says you can substitute fruit and vegetable purees such as applesauce, pumpkin or squash for breads and baking. These purees can also be used when making homemade pasta.
“A lot of people have different levels of allergies to nuts. Maybe you can’t have almonds, but you can have peanuts,” says Brooks-Stadler. She recommends substituting seeds and seed butters for nuts and nut butters. Dole adds that seeds are crunchy with a good fat content, making them a great nut substitute in salads, baking and for garnishes. To replace the healthy fats found in nuts, olives, olive oils, canola oils and avocados will do the trick.
“I’d tell anyone with a food allergy or intolerance to ask for what you want. Be up front, and don’t hide it. It isn’t worth the consequences,” says Dole. BrooksStadler agrees, “The best thing I would recommend to people is to be aware and hyper-vigilant. Listen to your body.”
For more information about The Art Institutes, visit artinstitutes.edu.
For eggs being used as a binder, Dole suggests using a mashed banana, Xantham gum or another thick mashed or pureed fruit substitute. Applesauce works well to contribute moisture, and if the egg is the leavening element in a recipe, a small amount of baking powder can be used.

MYTHS TO REALITY…….THE DENTIST’S PLIGHT TO OVERCOME PEOPLES FRIGHT..!!! An apple a day may keep the doctor away, but not so for dentists. People can give into anything to keep the dentists away. I wouldn’t be surprised if someday I read, “ The worst legal criminal punishmentRoot canal Treatment” or “ The husband murdered his wife cause she asked him to go to the dentist”…REALLY??? With so much unnecessary stress and anxiety built up around dentists and dental health, it is not surprising that we have made up several myths over years to help explain or even alleviate our dental issues. But when it comes to your dental health, having false information can be harmful. Here we will “drill down” to the truth behind five common dental myths about Root canal treatment, some of which you may have believed yourself. MYTH 1: WAIT FOR PAIN TO VISIT THE DENTIST. There is particularly no good time of the year to visit the dentist. All of us try to make ourselves believe that we are not experiencing real dental pain until we reach a point where our tooth gives shock like shooting pain forcing us to make those emergency calls. PAIN IS ONLY EQUIVALENT TO ACTIVE INFECTION. The infection may have been dormant and can be easily detected in time by dentists at routine visits. Earlier the treatment, better is the life of the tooth. MYTH 2: ROOT CANAL TREATMENT IS PAINFUL. In a very interesting survey, it said patients who have experienced root canal treatment are six times more likely to describe it as “painless” than patients who have had no root canal treatment. Root canal treatment helps to relieve
pain by removing all infected tissues and bacteria. MODERN TECHNOLOGIES AND ANAESTHETICS make root canal treatment as comfortable as a routine dental filling. MYTH 3: A GOOD ALTERNATIVE TO ROOT CANAL TREATMENT IS EXTRACTION. Nothing can completely replace natural teeth. Root canal treatment alone saves more than 17 million teeth a year. Although various options are available today to replace missing teeth, reinforcing natural teeth by performing a root canal treatment followed by a cap gives a success rate upto 95%. Extraction is only indicated in rare cases where there is tremendous loss of sound tooth structure. MYTH 4 : FAILURE OF A PREVIOUSLY DONE ROOT CANAL TREATMENT LEADS TO ONLY EXTRACTION. I often have patients visit me saying, “My dentist told me to extract my tooth as the root canal treatment has failed. I want to save this tooth but I am in pain. Kindly do something.” Although root canal failure is a reality, it happens more often than it should. Having said that, when a root canal failure is present, Root Canal Re-treatment can often solve the problem. It does not require anesthesia and the process is pain free in most cases. This is when an Endodontist or the so called Root canal specialists come into play. The dentist may refer you or take consultation from the root canal specialists in such cases. With their expertise, knowledge and equipments most of the failed root canals can be restored with predictable success.
With this era of science and technology, when every body part can be revived, then why not give your tooth this second chance and enjoy what is gifted by GOD Almighty!! MYTH 5: TAKING ANTIBIOTICS/ PAINKILLERS WILL RELIEVE ALL MY TOOTHACHES. As part of all desperate attempts to avoid the dentist, you will be surprised how efficiently painkillers are able to treat most toothaches. However, THIS IS ONLY GIVING YOU TEMPORARY RELIEF, until the pain and infection activates again with a big bang at a later stage. At this stage, the life of the tooth may become questionable. These situations are best avoided when visits are made at earlier signs like sensitivity to hot/cold, slight pain on biting/ chewing etc.. Over the years, dentistry has evolved from an imprecise practice based on folk cures to a structured medical discipline that relies on science and technology. So here we are, to remove the so called “dental fear” and make you all experience the new definition of dental treatment.

Everyone wants to look good, whether it’s for a special event or just everyday living. People often talk about the need to eat right and exercise to improve overall health and beauty, but the focus on skin is often more about superficial appearance and not enough about the health of the skin. When skin is healthy at the most basic, cellular level, it gives you a beautiful glow. Many people don’t understand that healthy skin starts way below the surface; it starts with your cells. Unfortunately, aging slows down your skin cell renewal process, which can cause wrinkles, dark spots, dryness and loss of elasticity. It’s important to rejuvenate skin cells so they operate at their optimal level. A new product that addresses skin health at a cellular level is RENU 28, an all-natural skin gel. It is designed to work with your body’s natural processes to revitalize your skin’s health and appearance by specifically targeting cells that have been damaged

over time due to age and other factors. Scientifically-formulated using ASEA’s patented Redox Signaling technology, RENU 28 helps heal and replenish damaged skin cells to keep your skin feeling moisturized for an enhanced, healthy appearance. It is also noncomedogenic, hypoallergenic and preservative- and paraben-free, so you won’t have to worry about what you are putting on your body. As you improve the health and appearance of your skin, there’s a good chance you’ll take notice of the rest of your body. For example, you might dress differently to show off your beautiful, healthy-looking skin. You might want to start a new exercise program to tone your muscles underneath your skin to complete the new look. A part of optimal health includes good skin health, and that’s something you need to think about year-round, not just on special occasions or the holidays.

Your guide to flat abs on a busy schedule Written by Team Fitternity www.shutterstock.com/ AntonioDiaz
According toa story published in the Journal of the American College of Cardiology, those who have excessive abdominal fat are at a higher risk of cancer and heart disease than those who might have the same BMI but carry extra weight in other parts of the body. Relax, here’s how to counter it: High Intensity Interval Training (HIIT) Workouts: HIIT training gives you a complete workout when you are short on time, helping you burn fat and build muscle at the same time. All you need is 15 to 20 minutes doing a range of exercises like push-ups, lunges, squats, pull ups and sit ups. The goal is to do 15 repetitions of one exercise, and then move on to the next with little or no rest in between sets. To make it more challenging, do 1 minute of skipping after every exercise and then move to the next set. You will end up burning around 500-600 calories in just 15 minutes. As this involves many muscles and joints, you should only try this every alternate day.It would take five times the amount of typical cardio exercise to shed the same amount of calories you can count in a four-minuteTabata, which is a form of HIIT that originated in Japan”, says Michele Olson, a professor at Auburn University in Alabama in an interview with ABC. Work those Muscles: Now while HIIT will help you burn calories, you need to tone your abdominal muscles to get a sleek midriff. For that, work on your abs 3 times per week with exercises that target these specific 26
muscles, like – crunches, sit ups, leg raises and planks. Do 20 reps and 3 sets for each at a time. You should also look at doing core workout with an emphasis on variation, alignment, execution and form, because if you aren’t doing it probably you won’t see the benefits. Also remember that this will help with losing weight everywhere, not just your stomach (as you can’t really just spot reduce fat in one area). Eat Right: Without tweaking your diet, you can exercise yourself into a coma and still see no results. The right diet for flat abs is one that is high in fibre to prevent bloating, high in antioxidants to boost your energy levels, and also high in quality protein to keep your metabolism revved up. Choose natural foods like whole grain cereals, fruits, vegetables, lean cuts of meats like turkey and chicken, oily fish, eggs and low fat dairy products. “It is very important to cut back on sodium intake to prevent bloating when you want flat abs. Rather, use herbs like parsley and basil to flavour your food; these also are great for banishing bloat”, says Niti Bhatnagar, a dietitian. Say Hello to Mini-meals: To keep your metabolism moving and your blood sugar stabilized, you need to eat mini-meals. Rather than having 3 large meals in a day, break up your caloric intake into 6 to 8 mini-meals, eaten every 2 to 3 hours. The plus point is that you stay full and temptation-free, while also keeping bloating and acidity at bay.
Stay Stress-Free: Cortisol, otherwise known as the ‘stress hormone’, can undo all your hard work and add bulk to your waistline. It can also encourage weight gain.A Yale study published in the September/October issue ofPsychosomatic Medicine showed that stress can cause abdominal weight gain in otherwise slender women, simply because of the increase in cortisol levels. And the story remains the same for men, who are even more prone to accumulating fat on their belly. So, when you feel a panic attack coming, try deep breathing exercises to calm yourself down and think more rationally. The Verdict: Since a busy schedule puts you under extra stress, it makes more sense to take measures right away to get flatter abs. And while you might think that you can get away with those loose t-shirts you favour because they hide your belly, remember they will not fight diseases that accompany excess abdominal weight. Now get that tummy to work!

S
ana Khan. I interviewed Sana just a few days before she was ready to take off for her latest Reality TV show Khatron Ke Khiladi. There seemed to an honest bubble of energy that Sana would radiate. Pretty straightforward in her approach to the questions what impressed me most was the responses seemed what she actually felt. No sugar coating. Sometimes people may misinterpret the frank behavior of a person but then that’s what makes them who they are and attract the right people around. Let’s find more about this young lady…
What do Sana’s close ones call her? Sannu is out of love for closed ones Who is Sana as a person? Exactly what people have seen me on Big Boss.. I am a happy chirpy person. Not cranky at all. I am a happy go lucky kind of person. Assuming your friendly personality you must have a lot of friends. Yes I do. Lot of old friends. Then there are lot of people you meet and socialize. Are u the same u when u meet random people at parties? Meeting for the first time you are conscious about what to do what not to… But eventually if you meet people more often then you open up. What were you doing before Big Boss? Its been 9 years, I have done many commercials and 14 South Indian films and worked with a lot of people. But things have not come easy. The struggle has been long unlike what people may see.
During your struggle phase what was the lowest phase you went through? I don’t belong to a filmy background. When you just land up here you have no idea, but I always knew that I wanted to make a name here. Eventually you want to see growth and when you don’t see that its really tough. But there was always something that kept happening in small small ways.
cheat days once in a while.
What’s been your biggest driving force through all the struggles? I never got any other educational qualification that I could have gone towards. So basically I had no option. No Plan B, so my motivation was basically having nothing to fall back on.
You are off to Khatron Ke Khilaadi Reality show? Where to? Cape Town.
What’s weird about you? My sense of humor. New people who meet me don’t get my sense of humor until they get to know me. Your sunsign? LEO
You are a resident of Andheri right? Oh yes.. And the funny thing is that my building name is Movie Tower (she giggles). I think that is so funny. What’s important in a man-woman relationship? I think compatibility. Understanding each other. More than love or anything else you should be able to tell the wants and needs of your partner without speaking… simply by looking into their eyes. Love and respect should follow next.
Favorite body part to work out? Legs. Legs workout is something I also look forward to. I have prominent calves. What’s the best outfit you would flaunt yourself in? I would wear a nice short dress with a little peak from here and there.
Looking forward? Yes but there is so much to do and work while shooting for a reality show. 3-4 days of shoot, early mornings. One day off I like to just recuperate. Personally what’s next for you? I am launching my own Protein Supplement brand. Let’s hope that goes well. We will be doing the manufacturing in Khapoli. Motto in life? Make my mom feel proud. Earn loads of money and give my mom everything that she desires. Fav word? Oh Shit! Fav Cuss word? F%$# Off! Quality you admire? Honesty What do you have to say about the swach andolan going on in the country. I am proud of it. I am personally a very clean person and I make sure that my driver and other help in the house follow the same.
IS there a food tempSana is in Cape Town, South Africa right tation that you cannot now and we wish her the best of luck in resist? Khatron Ke Khilaadi. After working my ass off in the gym I can resist anything. But I do have my 34

“It is the process of rehearsal, chewing into that script in front of you, masticating each word and each scene written by the writer. It is this which makes the theatre so fulfilling. Remember it is the process and not just that opening night. It is what you go through, says the amazing yet humble Rajit Kapur and before you start reading this interview dear reader know this - my editor & I hit a home run by actually getting to video graph this theatre legend at none other than Prithvi Theatre itself. On that day we were fortunate to have watched an actor of his caliber get into character in the green room and then rehearse his part on the stage again and again and again till he perfected every little nuance. Four days later we made our way to the garret at his office to complete the interview. What stood out amidst the many wall hangings, production posters, and artifacts from the world over was a photograph of him being honored by Madiba, the late Nelson Mandela. The discipline of Mr Kapur was such that he sat in the lotus position during the entire length of our conversation with him. by Asheesh Kapur @asheeshkapur

popular. Asheesh - A lot of people think you are a Bengali. Rajit - I would like to believe I’m like a chameleon. When I’m in Dubai, I’m spoken to in Arabic. I just grin at every one. Asheesh - I’m gonna pass the torch to my editor now. Rajit - Yes
An amused Anubhav looks on. Asheesh - You are that rare breed of actor/producer who has managed to maintain a healthy balance between film and theatre.. Rajit - I began with theatre so it’s always been my first love, and it still is. The balance between the two is a struggle. It has taken our company Rage Theatre Productions twenty years to establish ourselves as a quality production house. We are now encouraging a lot of new writing for the stage via an initiative called the Writers’ Bloc. Asheesh - How do you manage to raise funds to commission plays ? Rajit - There’s not much money in theatre and therefore even people who wish to do theatre are often discouraged because there is no steady income. Our passion drives us. There are also some dedicated individuals and companies who patronize the arts. Asheesh - Since you are doing very well in films, is this your way of giving back to where you started initially? Rajit - Yes. These are my roots in terms of learning. It’s part of my being. Acting on stage stretches you as an actor. It takes a lot to hold the attention of an audience and involve them live. Asheesh - What about the influences of mentors, if you’ve had any ? Rajit - The first time i faced a film camera was on a docudrama called Jazeere directed by Mr Govind Nihalani. My first film was directed by Mr Shyam Benegal - Suraj Ka Satvan Ghoda, and I’ve been very fortunate to have been part of every film of his since then. I sometimes joke with him saying that he will not do a film without me. He has given me stuff to challenge myself as an actor. I am honored that he trusts me. Asheesh - So let us speak a little bit about the film, The Making Of the Mahatma, for which you received the National Film Award for Best Actor. When we watch this film as an audience and/or film students, we are made to explore a very vulnerable and humane side of Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi before he fully came into his own and became Mahatma Gandhi, The Father Of Our Nation.
Rajit - Reading and understanding, The Story of My Experiments With Truth helped me prepare immensely for this role. We know very little about the time he spent in South Africa and how it shaped his thinking. This film dealt exclusively with those twenty years. I needed to grasp not just the racial trouble that he was exposed to but also the mental trauma he suffered while attempting to gain clarity of thought. At the end of this film he decides that he needs to go back to India and fight for his people. Come to think of it, playing this character made me very determined in real life also. Asheesh - Excellent. You are also synonymous as Byomkesh Bakshi. I’ve actually heard people refer to you as him. Rajit - The late Shoojit Sen, a writer who also worked extensively with the late Bimal Roy, suggested my name to Basu Chatterjee who did not take long in deciding that he wanted me on board. We shot this series like a film, at least fifteen episodes at one go. I mastered the art of continuity on this project. The scripts were given to us way in advance, hence all us actors were very well prepared. The simplicity of each story stood out and became the unique selling point of this entire series. We had a prime time slot on DD National, Thursday 9pm, i think. I did not imagine then that it would become so
Anubhav - How is acting for the camera different from acting for the stage ? Rajit - On a basic level it is the same. Your whole being needs to be part of it from head to toe. Yet on stage one needs to reach out to a house full of people. How does your voice, your gestures reach the absolute back bencher? These are things you learn through practice. Yet when in front of the camera, you are acting for a separate medium. The camera sees everything. One needs to be aware without being conscious of that lense which maybe placed just a few inches away from your face. A good actor understands and adapts to both mediums. Anubhav - Right. The camera is really so up close to you that.. Rajit - Beyond a point you cannot lie.. Anubhav - Yes.. but in theatre can you get away? The eternal debate. Rajit - It is how you convince that audience or the camera. That is what an actor must develop. Anubhav - What should an actor not do ? Rajit - Become lazy. Anubhav - What should an actor definitely do ? Rajit - Keep working, even if it is not acting. Every thing you undergo helps you as an artist. Anubhav - Is there a survival guide that can be made for actors in Bollywood? Rajit (pointing to his forehead) - Its all in the mind. There can be no real survival kit as such. Its what you’ll do with yourself and your time that will help you survive. Anubhav - Has the standard of film making improved according to you? Rajit - It has improved. There is also more opportunity today. There is always room for improvement though. Anubhav - You may be traveling global but you are always living local. What does this phrase mean to you ? Rajit - It’s very apt for film. When you localize a story, there is more chance of it reaching out to people globally.

FILMY CHIT CHAT by Sidharth Sodhi
Sulemaani Keeda
In conversation with Amit Masurkar and Aditi Vasudev. The director and leading lady of the film ‘Sulemani Keeda’ which releases on December 5. The film is about 2 struggling writers in bollywood and 3 days in their life when they suddenly have to make life altering choices. Ques: Bits in the trailer look quite funny.. AM: The 2 guys are like chalk and cheese. One guy is a hustler. The other takes himself too seriously. With 2 such characters a lot of comedy is created. Ques: You did a lot of guerilla shoots.. any hiccups? AV: Most of the film was shot like that. No hiccups though. AM: Not a single bribe paid in this film. We shot at places where there were cops around but nobody found out because we were not creating a nuisance. No vanity vans – large crews. Nobody knew we were shooting because these guys (actors) were really well rehearsed. The camera would be placed..actors would hop out of the car and perform. Action.. Cut.. was in signals. We’d take a few angles. We got back in the car. Ques: Aditi. Your character Ruma. How different was it from the real you? AV: She’s closer to me than some other characters that I’ve played in the sense that she’s leading a life that follows her heart. She’s an empowered young woman.
funny and spontaneous in real life.. AV: They have like really fun arguments. Especially Mayank. You just sit in his house. Listen to him..both of them. It’s really fun actually. AM: All 3 actors (Naveen-Aditi-Mayank) were pre cast in this film. Also Karan Mirchandani who plays ‘Gonzo’. Ques: Aditi. The handstand in the film is really cool. What precautions must a person attempting it for the first time take? AV: Be as close to the wall with your hands as possible. Keep a sense of balance and drop down again. It’s easier to drop back on your feet rather than your ass.
of phrase. No matter where you go or what you do, you process it from a certain place which is more local to you. You can think large but you have to start with a single step. AM: With respect to storytelling, local stories are the ones which actually travel. A story like ‘Lagaan’. That’s a very local specific story but the idea is very large. ‘Sulemani Keeda’ is about this area, this world but it’s about aspirations.
Ques: What does the phrase ‘you may be traveling global but you’re always living local’ mean to you? AV: ..fairly important life philosophy type
Ques: Your favourite hangout spots in andheri ? AM: Leaping Windows. WTF. I also love the koli seafood festival. I go there every day when it happens. Ques: Must make your lives easier when the people (Naveen-Mayank) who have to be funny in the scene are also 38

She is an evil taxidermist with a burning grudge against talking bears. She is awful and vicious person. Nicole is all nostalgic when spoken about Paddington. She recollects her childhood days, when Paddington stories were her bed time stories. She simply adores Paddington and now she is playing a character who wants to kill Paddington. Nicole says how David Heyman and Paul King left no stone unturned to create the magic of this beloved bear on screen. She says, “When Michael Bond created this character I am sure he himself might not know that it will gain such popularity. I think the fact that how Paddington is, his mischief’s, his tactics are funny and cute. His marmalade loving sandwiches, they way he addresses everyone is very cute. Children love him and I am sure every house in London must be having a Paddington stuffed toy. He is so loved that today the Paddington station is remembered only because of him”. She is glad that she is playing this role and everyone will love this. Nicole also shares her views on Indian cinema. She says, “Indian cinema comprises of immense talent and potential artists. I like how colorful and lively Indian cinema is”
Paddington releases in India on 16th Jan 2015.

with our careers, realize that the options for finding a spouse are limited. The lucky few fall in love and find their soul mates, and the rest rely on their parents, “the aunty network or sundry matrimonial sites. But if you are looking to find your spouse yourself, your choices are limited.
ootloose No More is a platform for modern urban singles to socialize and find companions in a modern day environment
FNM is a group of well to do singles in Mumbai in the age bracket of 27 to 49 years and is populated with niche’ up market people.
FNM started in late 2009 and was an instant hit with the target group of urban, well traveled, middle to upper class singles. Currently, FNM operates in Mumbai, Delhi and Pune. Since then footloose has grown to 2500+ members ONLY by RECOMMENDATION and common associations. Today it has the distinction of being THE ONLY fully functioning group for singles which is clean and socially acceptable.
We believe that Footloose No More is an initiative that will re-define the way marriages happen in Urban India. We feel that most of us come from normal middle & upper middle class backgrounds and have risen in life thanks to the education our parents provided us. We have great jobs as well as big dispos-
able incomes and an urban lifestyle to match… but because of this transformation in our social status and habits, it has become nearly impossible for our parents to find a boy/girl for us to marry who is “OUR TYPE”! While we ourselves don’t have much time left from work to go looking either. What footloose does is that it brings ALL these upwardly mobile urban singles together at various events so that they can meet others like themselves and have a shot at becoming FOOTLOOSE NO MORE!”
This is exactly what siblings, Abhishek and Varsha Agnihotri Vadhyar faced. Both single and in their 30s, a friend a friend told them that their options for looking for their other half had pretty much dried up and they needed to make peace with it. Refusing to accept defeat, the duo set about looking for other single people “like them!” while sitting in their drawing room of their Yari Road apartment. The first few members were people in their neighbourhood, friends they had known for a long time...but now, the network has spread all over the world, with members from everywhere joining in. Initially, it was a group on Facebook, but they soon realized the need for their own website for security reasons and now operate from a site that pays extra attention to authenticity of members. The applicants go through a stringent screening process and are even asked to provide a certain number of documents. “You will never find a profile called mumbaiboy43 with a picture of a bird on our site,” says

Abhishek. “Each member must have his/ her real name and picture. There’s no hiding behind internet walls here.” The USP of the group is the events that they curate every month which stretch from Worli to Andheri West. In fact, coming up in December is an event concentrated in it’s place of birth. The event promises to be fun and interactive. “The events provide members with the opportunity to meet real people who are looking for the same thing as all the others in the group – marriage!” Says Varsha. These events range from Saturday evenings, to brunches, treks and movie nights and members are encouraged to join in. “It’s like going to a friend’s party where you get introduced to everyone and can decide whom you want to keep in touch with. But if you are shy, we encourage you to bring along friends or even family members,” informs Abhishek. Clearly the comfort level of the members here is great since attendance can range from 20 to 100, depending on the nature of the event. And marriages definitely happen here. The founders, Abhishek and Varsha found their own spouses here and are now parents themselves. About 40 marriages strong, Footloose No More, headquartered in Mumbai, now exists in Pune and Delhi as well and plans to be in other cities soon. How to teach children
Ever seen a child jump on a dog, or try to ride it, or pull its ears? Most children love to play with dogs, however what they may not realize, due to their age and the pet parent’s lack of information that most dogs patiently put up with that kind of rough handling. However, you never know when a situation can arise. The wonderful companionship that dogs and children innately share is what has made, since time immemorial, the dog a popular family pet. Some dogs when caught unaware or when painfully handled, often react out of sheer fear and confusion and not with the intent to harm. The experience of living with a family dog shouldn’t be a traumatic experience for neither the dog nor the child, especially when there are easy steps to prevent the situation. With guidance and the occasional initial supervision your dog and your child can develop safe fulfilling friendships. Here a few tips that will help with the same: • First and foremost you should teach your children to always ask pet parents for permission to interact with pets that aren’t yours. You could practice with stuffed animals at home so that your child is prepared and so that any mishaps are prevented if the dog isn’t a very friendly one. The child, when approaching a new dog, should ideally, first ask permission, then softly pet the dog and talk in calm tones to it. Talking softly to the pet tells it that you mean NO harm. • Dogs need time to themselves just as much as humans do and it’s only fair that we give them the same. When your pet is eating or napping, it’s better to not disturb or aggravate or pull the 44
dog away from its ‘me’ time. Tell your children, to let the pet be how much ever they may want to play with pet. The pet will automatically, after a good meal or some rest, want to frolic around and play. • Next step is to show your children polite petting. Explain to your child that dogs love to be stroked under the chin, around the ears and patted softly as that makes them feel comfortable. This also means discouraging unpleasant treatment like, poking, pinching, slapping, and pulling on fur, tails or ears. Dogs may find frequent patting on the head invasive. • A frisky little puppy can easily squirm out of the child’s hand and get hurt, or in the process hurt your child too, that’s why it is advisable that small children be taught how to carry puppies. The right way to pick up a pup is to place your right hand under the dog’s chest, cradle the bottom with their left hand, and carry them close to your body. They’ll snuggle up and get comfortable then, and are less likely to jump out of your hands. • Children by nature at a small age have a lot of energy and have a tendency to run around and yell, which is something that dogs don’t understand. Dogs can get excited thinking that it’s play time and in that excitement hurt the child, or they can get scared and respond by chasing or even jumping! It’s also important to make sure that your child knows that teasing the pet is a complete no no too as that too can provoke them. Even if you’ve got the friendliest dog, a situation can develop in an instant. Although they mean no harm, children can do a number of things to trigger
inappropriate actions in dogs, and it could all stem from a harmless mistake. Here are some things that as a parent and a pet parent you should keep in mind. • When a dog is startled or in pain, he may bite. Defense is a natural response even for domestic pets. Children may never understand that their actions might end up hurting the pet, especially because they are not aware of any warning signs that the pet might give away. • Just like some of us don’t like to share our food, dogs can be territorial about the things they like too. They may act in an inappropriate manner if a child comes too close while playing or eating.
By Pooja Advani, Founder and Owner, It’s a Doggiie Dog World
• Sometimes dogs just don’t realize how big and strong they are and in excitement or during play time accidently land up hurting the child. We have to be prepared for scenarios like these especially around large breeds. Do not yell at the pet, instead teach your children what they should/shouldn’t do. • Many people assume that dogs are okay with children playing with them roughly, however one should realize that rather than letting things get out of hand, it is important to teach your child the right way instead. Some parents may allow their child to chase, pull tails, poke and generally be bothersome to the pet and expect the pet to put up with it in the long run. Allowing a child to mistreat animals, will give them leeway to do so more often and with pets that are not their own too. It is imperative that children know that all living creatures should be treated well. The best advice is that you, at the early stages, supervise all interactions between your pets and your kids. It takes an instant for things to go awry. So, watch for signs of trouble and supervise diligently so that you can step in when needed. These potential problems shouldn’t stop you from getting a pet. It is a beautiful relationship that your child should be introduced to at a young age and one that will be a long and fruitful one for both the pet and the family! www.shutterstock.com/ wavebreakmedia

to handle dogs
• Children may think that a dog growling or snarling is amusing. This could be a source of entertainment for the child. When they discover that certain actions can make a dog snap, they repeat those actions. Dogs when repeatedly provoked will bite or paw the child out of frustration. Some children think just the opposite and instead they are terrified by it. When a dog growls, or even barks at the doorbell, a child may get frightened and interpret it as a sign of violence. Frightened children may shriek and run away which will frighten or probably excite the dog into thinking there’s some sort of game being played.
Create a happy homemade holiday (BPT) - One of the best ways to kick off the holiday season is to decorate. And while it’s easy to load your cart with beautiful decor from your favorite store, Christmas is more personal when decorations are homemade. No time you say? Between planning dinners for the family and throwing cocktail parties for friends, it can be overwhelming. But it is possible to survive it (and enjoy it) by keeping everything simple. This season, let your creative instincts shine through as you watch your mantels, stairwells, and tables come to holiday life, with ideas like these: Create a magical mantle For most families, the living room is where gifts are exchanged, holiday movies are enjoyed and stories are shared gathered by the fireplace - a major focal point in the room. Give this cozy centerpiece a warm new look by creating a decorative display for your mantel. Draping a festive garland is one way to achieve a distinctive display. Doit-yourself banners and garland have become increasingly popular as a great way to personalize your decor. To make your own, start with a heavy fabric, like burlap or the kind used for upholstery, and cut enough pennants for your favorite holiday saying, like “Let it Snow.” Then using a snowflake stencil, spray paint the pattern with a silver color. Krylon Metallic Brilliant Silver, for example, works very well on fabric. Spray paint chipboard letters in a bright white. Once everything dries, spell out your message, one letter per pennant, and adhere the letters. Adorn the banner with plastic snowflakes and holly sprigs to finalize the festive look. Trim a tree like a pro The Christmas tree is another major focal point in your living room during the holidays. If you’re tired of the same old display year after year, give the tree a fresh look by changing up the ornaments and adding a theme.
with Krylon ColorMaster Paint + Primer spray paint in cherry red, emerald green and global blue. Roll the bulb around to distribute the paint for a beautiful translucent look. Add a little glitz with Krylon Glitter Spray in resplendent red, glamorous green and magical multicolor to the outside of the bulb for a festive look, and top off with your favorite embellishments like ribbon or bells. You can even spray paint old ornaments so they fit into your new color scheme. Once your new decor is complete, hang ornaments and lights on your tree before displaying it for the whole family to enjoy. Add elegant table toppers If you are hosting get-togethers for family and friends, add a sparkle to your table. Not sure where to start? First, choose two or three colors. Select a table cloth, table runner or placemats in your color palette and consider the arrangement for the middle of the table. Try replacing the traditional red and green with gold and silver accessories - candles, napkin rings, small figures in the plates and other decorative
accents. Include candles so the flickering flames can create a warm atmosphere. Even casually scattered pine cones, fir branches, red roses or poinsettias will add a special touch on the table. It’s easy to make your fine china the highlight of the dinner; but this year, try making your placemats the conversation starter by utilizing antique sheet music which can be found at old book stores or simply printed at home. These sheets will make for a chic and unconventional base for any place setting. Remember, it doesn’t have to be a stressful time of year, with a little effort and creativity you can turn take your holiday decor from ho-hum to homey in no time. More information and additional project ideas can be found at www.krylon.com.
Start by choosing a specific color scheme, such as red and gold. Don’t have enough decorations to match your new theme? It’s easy and affordable to create your own by using items already around the house. For example, use bulbs from an old string of lights to create a whimsical decoration. Remove bulbs from the strand and spritz the inside of the bulb 46 VIP GUEST LIST!! Win GIFTS/ Get OFFERS from local businesses. To be part of our VIP List Email: subscribe@livinglocalmag.com

Festive tips to deck your table for the holidays
Mix white and silver patterns to create a frosty look for holiday entertaining. (BPT) - ‘Tis the season for holiday entertaining. Icy shades of glistening white, sophisticated naturals and dazzling rhinestones top the hottest design trends in tableware and collectibles for the 2014 winter holidays. “Shades of white continue to be a customer favorite, both in ornaments and tabletop,” says visual designer John Griffith. “For the past few years, holiday decor has hinted at glitz and glitter, but this season we’re seeing more of a jeweled look with glamorous winter white designs heavily encrusted with rhinestones. It reminds me of when you wake up after a winter storm and everything is coated in sparking snow and ice.” Griffith leads the design team at dinnerware retailer giant, Replacements, Ltd. He loves mixing patterns in shades of white to create an elegant monochromatic look, but adds that using white as a unifying element also allows one to create endless design combinations by blending in additional colors, textures and shapes. Teammate Keith Winkler says you can easily use a different salad plate for each guest to create fun individual place settings, or even switch out accent plates between holidays to give your tabletop decor a totally different twist.
Ornaments make great accents or place card holders.
“For someone who entertains often, this is a great way to break up patterns so their guests don’t always see the same designs over and over. Guests will enjoy the seasonal designs, and hosts will have all kinds of fun creating new looks for their table,” Winkler says. Bright colors are also trending as hosts break tradition by adding in splashes of bold hues that aren’t typically associated with the holidays. “In creating one of the table designs in our store, we mixed non-holiday patterns in shades of purple and metallic gold,” says Griffith. “These colors don’t readily suggest Christmas, but we were able to create a rich, festive holiday feel by pairing these patterns with holiday accents. We filled glass bowls and compotes with rich-hued ornaments and incorporated gold finials in the table design. We created a centerpiece of silk florals in complementary colors which pulled the design theme together. One of my favorite things about this table is we can easily transition the look by replacing the gold hues with silver accents to create a table for our New Year’s celebrations.”
Burlap offers great texture this season with manufacturers incorporating this material into everything from wire decorating ribbon to holiday accents. Griffith suggests using burlap for table runners or place mats and venturing outside to gather greenery such as ivy or magnolia leaves, berries and pine cones to use for your centerpiece. Vintage tableware continues to be a driving trend. Griffith says many people are including heirloom patterns, passed through the generations, in their holiday place settings to create a sense of family tradition, then mixing in newer patterns to infuse their own sense of style. He’s also seeing smaller objects - such as vintage cookie cutters or toys - used as decor accents or to trim the trees. Griffith says you see some of the design schemes his team is creating for the holiday season and find additional decorating ideas on Replacements’ Facebook page.
Naturals are really popular again this year for both tabletop and holiday ornaments. Designs range from whimsical and folksy to more sophisticated and contemporary. 47
Keep them home, happy and studying: Creating a kid-friendly space
(BPT) - Would a great study space ease your child’s transition from summer to school? Perhaps an awesome lounge area could convince your teens - and all their friends - that your house is the best hangout spot ever. Whatever your objectives, a few design and decorating tricks can help you create a kid-friendly space in your home.
The basics of good design that make grown-up spaces appealing also work for children’s spaces. When designing a kid-friendly room, however, it’s important to keep in mind not only the purpose of the room (study, fun, sleep, etc.) but the age of the occupant, his or her interests as well as incorporating fun into the design. Here are some tips to get you started:
* Consider creating a theme. Kids of all ages love themes. To decide which one might be right for your project, consider things your child has shown an enduring interest in. For example, she may be into princesses right now and hate the theme next year. On the other hand, if she’s always loved the color pink and has a passion for animals, those elements could be worked into a theme that she’ll appreciate for years to come.
* Choose flooring that fulfills multiple needs. Carpeting absorbs sound (for when kids play loud video games or music) and is comfortable for young48
sters who like to sit or lie on the floor while they do homework, read, watch TV or socialize. What’s more, it’s available in virtually every hue and pattern imaginable, ensuring you’ll find something that appeals to both your design sense and your child’s tastes. Stain-resistant formulas and durable fibers ensure modern carpeting can stand up to the rigors of use in a child’s room. And, according to the Carpet & Rug Institute, properly cleaned carpet can maintain indoor air quality, making it a viable choice for families impacted by asthma and allergies. To learn more about carpet, visit www.carpet-rug. org.
* A child’s space needs layers of lighting, just as adult spaces do. As you’re choosing lighting, keep in mind how your child will use the room. If he will be doing homework, task lighting and desk lights will illuminate study areas. Will the room be a movie room or a “hangout” for older teens? Recessed and dimmable lighting may be appropriate. Don’t forget to include natural light in your illumination plans. Avoid heavy drapery. Instead, opt for bright colors and lightweight materials for window treatments so windows admit ample light. If you have a larger budget, consider adding a skylight to provide light while preserving privacy.
* Organization is key in a child’s room, and ample storage facilitates good organization. Depending on the size of the room and how it will be used, shelving, portable cubes, book cases and other furnishings can provide plenty of
storage space. For desks, look for desktop organizers that will keep important papers and supplies tidy and close at hand. By helping kids stay organized now, you’ll be laying the foundation for a lifetime of good organizational skills.
* Remember the fun factor. Whatever the purpose of a child’s room, fun should be a universal ingredient. You can infuse fun in a room in many ways, from creating a video game center for lounge rooms to choosing colorful, texturally appealing carpeting for a bedroom. A touch of whimsy, such as a swing hung from the ceiling or a wall mural of your child’s favorite cartoon character, can produce smiles every time kids see them.
With some creativity and the right decorating materials, it’s possible to create a space that will make children comfortable, happy and ready to tackle the new school year.

Opportunities of living that come up include what you may have missed earlier. Try to absorb excitement with the support of that which is already stable in your life, and you will not be overwhelmed. You need to be careful in matters of health and feelings. All is well.

Hold On Pain Ends. Pain has two meanings, one is “highly unpleasant physical sensation caused by illness or injury” and the other one is “mental suffering or distress”. Can you decide which is relevant and has more effect on us? Unable to decide? Both the meanings have solutions. The first one gets treated by medicines and the second one can be healed by? Have any idea? No? It can be healed by the greatest medicine “Time”. Time heals everything and every pain. We have come across this sentence many a times in our lives. But why we are suffering from so much of pain. Simple, because we are allowing it, to take over our entire life, but always remember, what you will allow you will continue.
Everything has its ending and the same is applicable for pain and sufferings. God does not give you anything which you cannot handle. He sees that how much you are capable of facing things. Moreover, pain does not happen just like that, it’s an indication from God that there is something in our life which needs to be changed. People including me wonder that why the Almighty choose us for all the hurtful things but if there’s no pain, there’s no gain. If there will be no pain then how we will understand the importance of pleasure and happiness. You have to be strong to face it, you have to open your eyes and close your heart to let it not affect you. When it rains, we protect ourselves with umbrella and raincoats similarly we should protect ourselves from unwanted expectations, feeling and people who are the cause of our pain.
bumpy road. But after a bumpy road, there is a way to the highway along with the most beautiful and amazing views. We just need to give some time. Everything which is good takes time, but it’s worth the wait and so the pain. Grow stronger with the pain, do not let it destroy you and as people say that struggles are required in order to survive life because in order to stand up you need to know what falling down is like. In the end, some of your greatest pains become your greatest strength.
Everyone, in this world is suffering; everyone is going through pain which might be nothing when compared to yours. Life is not smooth; it’s like a

CHRISTMAs CAROLS
RUDOLPH, the red nosed reindeer Lyrics
Carols were first sung in Europe thousands of years ago, but these were not Christmas Carols. They were pagan songs, sung at the Winter Solstice celebrations as people danced round stone circles (The word carol originally meant to dance to something). The Winter Solstice is the shortest day of the year, usually taking place around the 22nd December. The word Carol actually means dance or a song of praise and joy! Carols used to be written and sung during all four seasons, but only the tradition of singing them at Christmas has really survived. ............

You know Dasher and Dancer and Prancer and Vixen, Comet and Cupid and Donner and Blitzen., But do you recall? The most famous reindeer of all? Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (reindeer) Had a very shiny nose And if you ever saw it (saw it) You would even say it glows (like a light bulb) And all of the other reindeer (reindeer) Used to laugh and call him names (like Pinocchio) They never let poor Rudolph (Rudolph) Join in any reindeer games( like monopoly) Then one foggy Christmas Eve, Santa came to say, (ho ho ho) Rudolph with your nose so bright, Won’t you guide my sleigh tonight? Then all the reindeer loved him, (loved him) And they shouted out with glee, (yippie) Rudolph the red-nose Reindeer (reindeer) You’ll go down in history (like George Washington) Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer (reindeer) Had a very shiny nose And if you ever saw it, (saw it) You would even say it glows, (like a lightbulb) And all of the other reindeer (reindeer) Used to laugh and call him names, (like Pinocchio) They never let poor Rudolph(Rudolph) Join in any reindeer games, (like monopoly) Then one foggy Christmas Eve, Santa came to say, (ho ho ho) Rudolph with your nose so bright, Won’t you guide my sleigh tonight?
