The hype began as soon as the invitation was sent out to the US President Barack Obama by Prime Minister Modi to be the Chief Guest at the Republic Day Celebrations in India. TV Channels were predicting from He will come... He Should come.. He Better Come... to He is Here. The key to every Hype is... Does it live up to it? And so we waited for President Obama to visit finally on the 25th of last month with all the research done on his mode of transport “The Beast”, inside-outside “Air Force One”, his likes, dislikes, choice of food, the place of stay and so on. I think we had gone through this crash-course in all the previous Presidents of USA visits but oh well, short memory span generation. Delhi was a high-secured zone with 15,000 CCTV’s installed, the India gate area extra guarded, fly-zones monitored... If you really sit and analyze, it would seem for a moment that we were under some kind of outsider attack. Think about it.. when do extra security measures than normal come into play... hmm?

But then came the famous Jaadu ki Jhappi as soon as Obama and Modi greeted each other at the Delhi Airport. Patiently and humbly watching the long Republic Day parade, the President of The United States seemed

Editor-in-chief Anubhav Anand @anubhavanand

to be relaxed and at ease. There was a sense of personal touch that we Indians felt with the Big Daddy in our own backyard. Maybe it had to do with Modi’s built up relationship in his last visit to the USA. Maybe we Indians just like to emotionally play with our minds that Obama Uncle is our friend. Is he? I’d like to think so Yes. There is no reason to believe that he is not. And that’s simply because when the man speaks you want to believe in the words he says. The effort to learn about little details about the country, its culture, bollywood, etc... Only a smart man knows that it’s the little things that matter the most. And the final image of folded hands of the President of the United States at the gate of Air-Force One as he bid farewell to the country getting into its 67th year of Republic. So was it a hype that fit to the expectations of all the TV channels, the politicians, the attendees at the Republic Day Parade and the common man? You tell me!

With Indian students travelling to all parts of the globe for pursuing further education, it is important for them to treat all others with respect as they act as ambassadors of our country. Here is a quick guide on how to greet, behave and communicate with people from various cultures and backgrounds.

International Etiquette

Punctuality: Americans take pride in making the best use of their time. Being on time for dinners, or meetings is very important in their culture. Thus going to college and classes on time is considered very important for students and even when going out with friends at night. Australians too take punctuality seriously. Punctuality in the UK differs from situation to situation. One thing to keep in mind is never to arrive too early. Either be on time, or at 12

a maximum, 15 minutes after the stated time. Time management is imperative. Meeting and Greeting: The English culture demands a sense of formality while addressing someone, which is why the same is done with terms like ‘Sir’ or ‘Ma’am.’ Politeness, reserve and restraint are admired in someone they are meeting for the first time. Most Americans believe in equality and thus end up deferring usage of overtly formal

words like sir, and ma’am and call people by their first names unless it is someone of senior rank. This applies especially to the Northern and Central sections of the continent. In Australia, the greeting system is informal and people commonly greet each other with an informal ‘Hi’ , Hello or ‘Good day.’ In all three of these countries however, it is considered appropriate to address people in a respectful way with a ‘Mr’ or ‘Ms.’ Remember that when you visit a friend’s parents,

Gifting: In Australia, it is considered etiquette to bring a small gift when invited to someone’s home preferably something that is native to your country, but even a bottle of wine or flowers is appreciated. Americans usually don’t have any qualms about gifting. They are particular about RSVP’s to plan social engagements accordingly. In the UK thank you notes are considered very polite.

Public/Private behaviour: The British are not overly affectionate, they mark their personal space evidently and one should be wary of hugging, kissing and general show of affection in public. Americans are very particular about personal space. Keep your distance while having conversation as they may automatically step back if they feel you are invading their personal space. Australians are friendly, but extremely particular about personal space too. 1-3 arms distance is the key! Taboos: Australians don’t take objection to much except for when you make the ‘V’ sign (index and middle finger). This is assumed to be a very vulgar gesture. It does not communicate peace in their culture. The thumbs up sign, used very casually across the world is also considered obscene in Australia. British desire privacy and it is thus considered rude to pry into their personal lives or ask questions about how much they earn. Certain terms or words to describe different races are a huge taboo in all three countries and completely unacceptable as racism poses as a serious problem. Dining etiquette: Americans and Australians usually practice eating with a style known as Switch and Switch. It involves you having to cut your food one morsel at a time. The concept behind this style of eating is that a person should be involved with their

food as well the people they are dining with. Americans raise their index finger silently to make contact with the server. In Australia and England diners don’t call out to the servers in restaurants but summon them with a quiet hand motion instead. Usage of terms like Boss, hero, Chote is inappropriate.

Respectful, yet friendly body language will go a long way in any circumstance. It helps to read a room and understand the temperament for appropriate body language though. Make sure your handshakes are Web to Web and firm. Limp and lousy handshakes project under confidence.

Work etiquette: Student life in America and the UK is extremely expensive – even more so than in Australia. But in all three countries, students tend to get part time jobs, which is why understanding the basics of work etiquette is imperative. Anything that isn’t a corporate job in America or Australia will have a semi formal setting and pay

Dressing: In the modern world, this shouldn’t surprise you as India has taken western fashion to the next level. Formal and informal wear will be the same except more pants and less salwars on women. Married women might want to avoid Sindoor at workplace. In Western cultures, it might be considered Desi. Wear your mangalsutras under your shirt if you’d like. Jewellery should be small and minimal. Avoid chunky gold jewellery that cause distraction.

employees a minimum wage or on an hourly basis. So one tends not to get too tied down or attached to the work place. In the UK however, even student jobs are taken seriously and one must maintain good, formal work etiquette. In a business situation, men and women are equals. The men need not hold the door for a lady; hold her chair to get seated etc. Save the chivalry for your date. However, don’t treat all the ladies like your best buds either. Respect one’s personal space at workplace; maintain 1-3 arms distance. While making presentations, present your business case with facts and figures. Emotions and feelings are not important in any business climate. Introductions: Often, there is a confusion as to how to introduce people in a social and work setup. In a social setup, Introduce the younger person to the older person. At workplace, introduce a person of lower rank/status to a person of higher rank/ status. Do not introduce based on gender. Ladies are not always first. In a social setup, when two people are of similar age and rank, introduce the one you know better to the other person first. Body Language: Australians are more open or ‘chilled out’ about back slapping, or hugs, or even just shaking hands; that is true for Americans too as long as it is outside of a professional setting. Body language is important for personal presentation on the whole and is not particularly subjective to countries.

Telephone etiquette: The simple rule you have to follow with a person in the UK is to be polite and concise while addressing them over the phone. In Australia and America, being slightly informal over the phone is fairly acceptable. The terms ‘English’ and ‘British’ do not mean the same thing. ‘British’ denotes someone who is from England, Scotland, Wales or Northern Ireland. ‘English’ refers to people from England. People from Scotland are ‘Scots’, from Wales ‘Welsh’ and from Northern Ireland ‘Irish’. Be sure not to call someone Welsh, Scots, or Northern Irish ‘English’. Inside and outside voices: It’s not a great idea to be too loud around people or in a conversation. But again, your behaviour has a lot to do with your environment. The British, as mentioned before, are extremely polite – Remember to maintain that conversationally. Being too outspoken or too loud will not go down well with them. These are just basic guidelines; however it is incorrect to stereotype an entire community. Remember to take into account personal preferences of individuals, religions, gender and religions.

If you are travelling abroad to study it is important to make sure you know a thing or two about the local etiquette and culture of the place. Beware; what may be perfectly normal in one country could be considered a taboo in another. Understanding the “lay of the land” and the cultural landscape goes a long way.

‘uncle’ and ‘aunty’ are not terms that are recognised in their culture. This happens only in India! It is always appropriate to address a lady as Ms., irrespective of her being married or not. If she’d like to be addressed as Mrs. wait for her to tell you.

Cosmetic procedures: year in review: What’s next?

Care for neglected parts: There is a definite shift from the face downwards in terms of skin concern. People are seeking help to lighten the underarms, groins, elbows and knees. Older looking hands injected with filler injections is a popular hand rejuvenation procedure. Chemical peels for neck and feet is moving up the list.

Youthful Lips: Lip enhancement is slowly on an increase among aging patients as well as younger girls. Today I have patients who know exactly what they want and are already well read on the subject of dermal fillers. It makes my job so much more easier to create the ideal lips that patient is looking for. Injectable fillers like juvederm and restylane are the easy tools to achieve desired results in minutes.

Dr Apratim Goel Cosmetic Dermatologist & Laser Surgeon www.cutis.in

Looking back on 2014, buttock augmentation, skin whitening and neck rejuvenation were among the “hottest” procedures. It was also a year where certain skin tightening devices lose their sizzle and few new promising technologies seem give hope. The next big question is: What’s in store for 2015?

Its a man’s world: The cosmetic industry today is booming with numerous products exclusively for men skin care. Men are now opting for full body laser hair removal, botox jabs, skin whitening procedures as well as personalised skin care products. The adam facial at Cutis is an all time favourite with our men clients.

Following are the likely trend forecasts:

Fair and Lovely: Skin whitening is a forever craze in India and that looks to be the number one cosmetic skin demand for 2015 as well. Dermatologists have tools like glutathione injections, topical creams containing whitening agents, skin polishing, chemical peels and various laser and light technologies for skin lightening.

Merry go round: The global demand for fuller rounder bottoms is definitely on rise. Women According to ASAPS 2013 statistics 11,527 buttock augmentations were performed in 2013 a 58 percent increase from 2012. Also the thigh gap ( distance between the inner thighs when standing with legs closed) is a popular demand with girls. So where radiofrequency as well as liposuction procedures are used to create thigh gap, fat augmentation and fillers are used to augment the buttocks.

Mommy Makeovers: We are all aware of the effects of pregnancy on body. Stretch marks, loose sagging skin, pigmented patches on face ( melasma), hair loss on scalp as well as unwanted hair on face due to hormonal imbalances is a natural effect. The basic goal in these women is to deal with all these issues. Various laser and light technologies as well as advanced cosmetic procedures like vampire lift and mesotherapy along with topical creams are used in combination. All is not well: This refers to the older drawn

look and sagging skin after extreme weight loss which makes patient more sad and low. After killing themselves to achieve the desired weight on the weighing scale, it is not a happy moment to have a face looking older, sunken eyes, and sagging skin. More and more people are resorting to procedures like injectables and lasers for skin lifting as well as volume enhancement. The lastest HIFU technology ( ultraformer) which just made its entry to India in late 2014, seems to be the technology of 2015 for non surgical skin lightening and contouring. 17

Money date night:

There’s nothing that says commitment more than saving up for a future home or retirement. Start communicating about a specific future goal and determine when you want to accomplish it. This will not only remind you of the goal, but it will also help determine the best investment vehicle, assess your risks and an appropriate asset allocation to fund it.

Couples should schedule regular money dates during which partner sets and review their progress toward financial goals or any other money concerns. You’re not ambushing each other at the end of a stressful workday. Schedule the first money date for Valentine’s Day, or the day after if you’d like, and you can discuss more than just how expensive flowers and chocolates are now.

Together time is more precious than money: Studies show that activities that bring you closer to loved ones make you happier than buying expensive items. You and your significant other may get more joy from doing something you both love to do—say, catching a movie or having a quiet dinner together. And no cell phones please.

Say, “I Love You”: It doesn’t cost anything but it says and means a great deal. Don’t be shy; say it a lot during the day. Tell your love how you really feel. He or she will appreciate your honesty and it will mean more than any gift could.

A True Valentine’s Day Gift

If you’re serious about making sure that your love story has a happy ending, you can use this romantic day to give each other gifts that say both “I love you” and “I want us to have a secure future” together.

Vishal Dhawan is a financial planner by profession and founder of Plan Ahead Wealth Advisors Pvt. Ltd. He can be reached at vishal.dhawan@planahead.in He frequently writes columns in various business and general media, both domestically and internationally, and appears on television.

The pressure is on—Valentine’s Day is coming up fast, and it’s time to buy a gift for that special someone. Not only is the day filled with clichéd gifts, but also merchants often come up with ridiculous prices. Have you ever thought about that money that goes for buying these fantasies for your partner? Finances may not be the most romantic things to discuss, especially on this day, but ignoring them can create big problems later in life. Globally, it is believed that finance is one of the leading causes of conflict in any relationship. Some of the best gifts your Valentine can be gifted this year could be:

Write a Will: Death isn’t the most romantic dinner date topic, but being proactive about crafting a will can ensure that your money and belongings are distributed to the people you love, rather than leaving it up to the law. Put your wishes down on paper and discuss your future transitions. Write a will and remember, no one is too young to write on.

20

Health Insurance - Keep your Heart Healthy: Picture you growing old together without stressing over home or health related costs. You would certainly want that, right? Insuring you and your family’s health adequately can help to cover unexpected costs associated with hospital or nursing home or any home-care needs so the grayer versions of you and your partner can have peace of mind.

Life Insurance- You Do it for Love: When it comes to the unfortunate event of an unexpected death, life insurance can be one of the most meaningful and selfless gifts you can give your loved ones.. A life insurance policy can provide you with peace of mind, knowing that your family will receive cash after you die to help them remain financially stable. It could be to cover expenses like a loved one’s future expenses, from education to loan repayments or may be just keeping the family business in operation.

HEEL PAIN

Dr Sarika Jambhulkar Consultant Practicing Podiatry E-Mail: doctor@vcarerehab.in

If you are waking up with acute pain at your heel, then mostly you are suffering from plantar fasciitis. This is one of the most common foot problems. Many times pain is very severe & disabling. What is plantar fasciitis? Plantar fasciitis (plantar fasciosis) is inflammation of the plantar fascia. The plantar fascia is a strong bowstring-like ligament that runs from the calcaneum (heel bone) to the tip of the foot. When the plantar fascia is stretched too far its soft tissue fibers become inflamed, usually where it attaches to the heel bone. Sometimes the problem may occur in the middle of the foot. The patient experiences pain under the foot, especially after long periods of rest. If inflammation persists for longer duration it can lead to calcaneal spur. Causes: Plantarfascitis is not usually caused by a single injury, such as a twist or fall, but rather the result of repetitive stress and pounding of the heel. Still following factors play important role in increasing severity of plantarfascitis. 1) Arch type: Flat feet, High arch or in between 2) Footwear: Wearing too flat or too high heel footwear 3) Lifestyle: continuous standing, walking or running 4) Body weight: Overweight results in more stress on plantar fascia 5) Osteoporosis: Weak bones will aggravate more pain

24

Diagnosis: Podiatrist /Foot doctor is the right person to diagnose & treat heel pain. Assessment should include detailed history, lifestyle evaluation, assessment of foot arch & alignment of all proximal joints, gait analysis etc. The real skill is to identify the cause of the condition and then establish the correct treatment plan. Treatment: 1) Rest: Temporary rest is important to allow plantarfascia to heal 2) Cold pack: Helps to reduce inflammation. Recommended 3-4times a day, 20 minutes each time (Not recommended for diabetic patient) 3) Right orthotics: To support your plantarfascia & correct your faulty alignment

4) Supportive shoes: Orthotics with proper supportive shoe gives long-term relief

What to avoid?

5) Exercises: Generally higher arched feet require a strict stretching program and flat feet require a gradual strengthening program and more support. One should not do stretching in acute pain.

2) Wearing too flat or too high heeled footwear

1) Bare feet walking on hard surfaces

3) Heel Cushions: Silicone or foam heel cushions commonly available from pharmacies do nothing to actually cure this condition and at best provide temporary comfort.

FREEDOM FROM

CHRONIC BACK PAIN

Type of Pain

OCCURANCE OF SPINAL INJURIES

Back pain usually begins as sharp or dull pain accom panied with muscle spasm just above the buttocks. This may indicate you have injured your spinal discs.

Working Accident Injury Obesity Pregnancy Commuting Exercise

Your body weight transfers from the discs to your spinal joints (facets) as the disc height decreases. The joints degenerate from overload and pain begins in your thighs.

Non Surgical Solution

Nerves exiting the spinal cord are pinched because the disc and joint cannot maintain stability. You feel pain and numbness in the feet and toes. The weak disc bulges or herniates into the spinal cord. You feel severe pain, numbness, and muscle weakness like foot drop. This is commonly called SCIATICA. Cervical spondylosis is a condition involving changes to the bones, discs, and joints of the neck. The discs of the cervical spine gradually break down, lose fluid, and become stiffer. As a result of the degeneration of the discs and other cartrilage, spurs or abnormal growths called osteophytes may form on the bones in the neck. These abnormal growths can cause narrowing of the interior of the spinal column or in the openings where spinal nerves exit, a related condition called cervical spinal stenosis.

28

Sedentary

Downward pressure on the spine causes loss of disc height. Disc material has nowhere to go except into the spinal column causing pain. This loss of height will also caused pinched nerves (Sciatica) and overload spinal joints (Facet Syndrome).

VAX-D’s computerized technology relaxes the muscles and creates NEGATIVE PRESSURE (-160mm Hg) inside the disc. This is the F.D.A cleared CACUUM EFFECT. Decreasing the pressure inside the disc will cause fluids and nutrients to re-vitalize the disc. t

As a Result…

• Disc height increases and the spaces between the bones (vertebrae) expand. • This relieves pressure from joints – no more FACET SYNDROME • This relieves pain because BULDGING DISCS retract inside the disc. • This relieves pain by rehydrating DE GENERATED DISCS with fluids.

How it Works…

After being fitted with a comfortable harness, VAX-D slowly decompresses the spine. The harness stabilizes your hips and pelvis. Then, the computer adjusts the tension along the F.D.A cleared logarithmic curve. This patented technology avoids the normal proprioceptive response i.e. muscle spasm.

Basically, you relax and the VAX-D computers create decompressive effects on your discs that allow discs to heal and stop the pain. Treatment plans are 20 sequential pulls consisting of 20 minutes. Most patients feel relief within the first few visits. Important: VAX-D is not the same as traction. Regular traction has been around for a long time. The big problem with traction is it pulls both muscles and spine simultaneously, often triggering painful muscle spasms. These muscle spasms created with traction do not allow the discs to decompress and will not create the healing VACUUM EFFECT.

Evidence after Treatment

Increased intradiscal pressure is often a result of poor hydration. VAX-D therapy creates a “vacuum” which literally pulls new fluid back into the disc and the disc back into position.

ou have just been diagnosed with diabetes. Accepting that diagnosis is difficult for many people, but it’s an important first step towards the healthy you.

Diabetes disorder affects a large number of people every year and causes changes in the lifestyles. If diabetes goes untreated it can often lead to numbness of feet, loss of eyesight, nerve damage and even death. In order to control their condition, diabetics often must take insulin injections twice daily and monitor their blood sugar levels closely. There are also some day-to-day practices, if followed properly can control diabetes to a larger extent. Avoid diabetes complications Choose carbs carefully Diabetes doesn’t mean you have to cut carbs completely. Choose carbohydrates that break down in the body slowly, providing steady energy. Reach for whole grains, beans, nuts, and fresh vegetables and fruits. Yes, you can eat fruit even though it’s sweet. It’s about eating the right amounts of carbohydrates at each meal. A registered dietitian can help you learn how much is right for you. Lose Weight If You Need To Start small. If you are overweight, shedding just a few pounds can improve the body’s ability to use insulin. It’ll help lower your blood sugar and improve your blood pressure and blood fats. You’ll also have more energy. Ready? Aim to burn more calories than you eat. To start, try cutting fat and calories from your diet, such as chips or fries.

Get Enough Sleep Getting too much or too little sleep can increase your appetite and cravings for high-carb foods. That can lead to weight gain, increasing your risk for complications such as heart disease. So shoot for seven or eight hours of sleep a night. If you have sleep apnea, treating it can improve your sleep and lower your blood sugar levels.

them from getting worse. Checking it can also help you see how foods and activities affect you, and if your treatment plan is working. Your doctor can help you set a target glucose level range. The closer you get to your target, the better you’ll feel.

Take Care of Bumps and Bruises Diabetes raises your risk of infection and slows healing, so treat even simple cuts and scrapes quickly. Properly clean your wound and use an antibiotic cream and sterile bandage. See a doctor if it’s not better in a few days. Check your feet every day for blisters, cuts, sores, redness,

Say No to Salt Reduce the salt in your diet. It may help lower blood pressure and protect your kidneys. Not salting the food on your plate may not be enough. Avoid convenience foods and use fresh ingredients when you can. Garnish with herbs and spices instead of salt when you cook. The best foods to help control blood sugar levels while also fighting off hunger pangs include beans, citrus fruits and dark leafy greens. Adults age 51 and older, and individuals with high blood pressure, diabetes, or chronic kidney disease should talk with their doctor about how much to reduce their sodium intake. In general, people with diabetes should decrease to less than 2,300 mgs per day however your doctor may recommend lower amounts.

or swelling. Moisturize them to prevent cracks. Break Your Smoking Habit People with diabetes who smoke are two times more likely to die prematurely than those who don’t. Quitting helps your heart and lungs. It lowers your blood pressure and risk of stroke, heart attack, nerve damage, and kidney disease. Ask your doctor about help for quitting tobacco.

Pick Super Foods, Don’t Supersize There’s no single diabetes diet. But here are basics to keep in mind: Enjoy super foods like berries, sweet potatoes, fish with omega-3 fatty acids, and dark green, leafy vegetables. Look at food labels and avoid saturated fat and trans-fats. Instead, opt for mono and polyunsaturated fats like olive oil. A registered dietitian can give you personalized advice. Most diabetes today choose the form of treatment they feel works best for them, but if convenience and the possible cure for diabetes are possible, advanced treatments, such as stem cell therapy and inhaled insulin may be the treatments of choice in the future.

Manage Stress When you have diabetes, stress can cause your blood glucose levels to rise. Get rid of whatever physical or mental stresses you can. Learn coping techniques to deal with others. Relaxation techniques such as breathing exercises, yoga, and meditation may be especially effective if you have type 2 diabetes.

Be Active: Exercise and Diabetes Pick something you like -- walking, dancing, biking, or just marching in place while you’re on the phone. Do it a half-hour a day; work up to that if you need to. Exercise can help you lower your cardiovascular risks, cholesterol, and blood pressure levels, and keep your weight down. Exercise also relieves stress and may help you cut back on diabetes medication. Monitor Your Blood Sugar Daily You know you’re supposed to check it. And actually checking your blood glucose levels can help you avoid diabetes complications, like nerve pain, or keep

REVIVE YOUR SMILE IN A SIMPLE STYLE ! COSMETIC TOOTH RESHAPING Do you have a minor defect in your pearly whites that you’d like to erase? Seeing your dentist about tooth reshaping, also called dental contouring, could be the answer. “Tooth reshaping and dental contouring are cosmetic dentistry procedures that deal with subtle changes to the teeth,” says Kimberly Harms, consumer advisor and spokesperson for the American Dental Association. “But sometimes little changes can make a big difference.”

Tooth reshaping is performed using dental instruments and abrasion techniques. Dental X-rays may be taken before the reshaping and contouring begin to ensure that your teeth are healthy. Your dentist will then mark your teeth with a pen to highlight areas that need sculpting. A sanding instrument is used to artfully eliminate or minimize imperfections on the surface of the teeth, and sandpaper-like strips may be used to contour the sides of the teeth. Finally, the teeth are smoothed and polished.

able smile makeover, you may want to go with veneers. Tooth reshaping and dental contouring only eliminate small imperfections, whereas veneers cover the entire front surface of the teeth, giving them a completely new look. • Risk of tooth damage. Depending on how much enamel is removed during tooth reshaping and dental contouring, teeth can become sensitive afterwards..

Imperfections or problems like slightly overlapping or irregularly shaped teeth, tiny chips in the teeth, or excessively pointy canines, can often be fixed with a little tooth reshaping and dental contouring.

What Is Tooth Reshaping? Tooth reshaping, also called dental contouring, is a cosmetic dentistry technique that removes small amounts of tooth enamel (the outer covering of the tooth) in order to change the shape, length, or surface of one or more teeth. “Even a few millimeters of reduction in the right places can really improve the appearance of teeth”. The process is often combined with bonding, a cosmetic dentistry treatment that uses tooth-colored composite material to sculpt and shape the teeth. What’s Involved in Tooth Reshaping and Dental Contouring?

Pros and Cons of Tooth Reshaping and Contouring Although reshaping and contouring are conservative approaches to changing the appearance of your teeth, it’s still important to weigh the pros and cons of these procedures to see if they’re right for you. Advantages of tooth reshaping and dental contouring: • Cost. This is an inexpensive way to improve the look of your teeth. • Painless. Because only surface enamel is removed in tooth reshaping and dental contouring, there’s generally no discomfort during the procedure and no anesthesia is required. • Improves health of teeth. Removing minor overlaps and other imperfections where tartar and plaque can build up lowers your risk of decay and gum disease. • Possible substitute for braces. In some situations, tooth reshaping and dental contouring can substitute for braces since they make teeth look a little straighter and eliminate minor overlapping. Disadvantages of tooth reshaping and dental contouring: • Subtle change. Unlike some cosmetic dentistry treatments, tooth reshaping and dental contouring will not dramatically change the look of your smile or make your teeth look whiter. For a more notice-

Are Tooth Reshaping and Dental Contouring Right for You? Tooth reshaping and dental contouring are best for people who just need tiny adjustments or repairs to improve the look and feel of their teeth. “It’s ideal for someone who has a tooth that is a little crooked, too pointy, or one side sticks out more than the other”. However, dental reshaping and contouring are not appropriate for people with decaying teeth, root canals, or unhealthy gums. Sometimes tooth reshaping and dental contouring are the first steps toward more extensive cosmetic dentistry work. Procedures such as veneers, tooth whitening, and crown lengthening can be performed months or even years after tooth reshaping and contouring. But if you want to avoid the time and expense of major cosmetic dentistry, tooth reshaping and dental contouring could be just the ticket to a better smile.

Who is Sara the real person? Very casual and simple. A lover of art and a foodie and a lover of nature. A very shy person and not very comfortable in public. Being a shy person what really attracted you to acting? I started with modeling in Pakistan very casually and got a Fair & Lovely ad campaign. Later when I moved to India (because my father was my India), I heard about Pooja Bhatt looking for a new girl for her film. I sent in my photographs and was selected for Kajraare. I basically started because of money which was good and definitely an attraction. But in the process when I used to get recognized as an actress in Pakistan it somehow gave me an incentive to pursue it even further. Any challenges in Bollywood post your first movie? Nothing comes easy. When you are an outsider you have to keep going after opportunities. Also, I am very hard working and disciplined that helps in the process. 34

‘Signature Expressions’ at the 31st McDowell’s Signature Indian Derby 2015 About ‘Signature Expressions’ Perhaps nothing speaks the distinct language of the soul in the way music does. For every music artist out there in the world trying to rise above the ordinary, there are as many musical expressions that articulate their soul call to stand apart. Signature believes that celebrating the spirit of these musicians who are trying to ‘make their own’ is the perfect way to pay tribute to Signature’s distinct legacy that holds its own. ‘Signature Expressions’ is hence a fitting medium to bring alive this proposition – It is a mentorship programme and platform for musicians and bands with a unique and signature sound to showcase their talent. Bands and musicians from across various genres can participate; the only criteria being that the music they create is a unique expression of their stance as a musician. At the helm of this exciting initiative are five celebrated musicians and bands who have had the courage and conviction to let their unique selves shine through with their music. They have risen above the ordinary and expected, and carved a niche that belongs singularly to them. They are Monica Dogra, Karsh Kale, Swarathma, Nucleya and Indian Ocean. As mentors to the musicians entering ‘Signature Expressions’, their role is to infuse them with the confidence and belief to continue treading their chosen paths, while equipping them with a wealth of insights and anecdotes. Also part of ‘Signature Expressions’ will be a series of performances by the mentors, where they take audiences on a journey of unique expression with their music.

Nucleya

One of the early proponents of the now-popular genre of Dubstep in India, NUCLEYA has built on that start to emerge as one of the most exciting, experimental and engaging producers in the Indian scene in the past five years. He has made his mark as an Indian dance music producer, focussing on sounds and textures that are Indian in sound but international in appeal. His new EP ‘Koocha Monster’ explores global BASS and cements NUCLEYA’s position as the Indian leader in the ‘global bass’ movement, as he continues to look to the future for new sounds.

Indian Ocean

Musicians and bands shortlisted through the mentorship programme will then get to perform with their mentors in a grand finale – meant to be the culmination of a journey to hone one’s musical expression and discover one’s true potential.

Indian Ocean is widely regarded and one of India’s foremost bands. They have been around for over two decades, and have earned a cult following with their unique sound. Some critics describe Indian Ocean’s music as an amalgamation of Contemporary Rock, Indian classical, jazz, folk music and fusion that integrates themes like spiritualism, activism, environmentalism, the futility of war and mythology.

Karsh Kale

Karsh Kale is a world-acclaimed multi-instrumentalist, producer and collaborator. Having worked with some of the world’s best musicians including Sting, Alicia Keys, Zakir Hussain, Anoushka Shankar and Midival Punditz, he has carefully curated a group of some of the leading alternative musicians from India and the US. The sound represents all the various phases of his life, and showcase his talent as a collaborator and one of the leading fusionists of his time.

Swarathma

Monica Dogra

As a solo artist, Monica Sharma Dogra, whom fans also know as Shaa’ir, is a spoken word performer, singer, dancer, actor, as well as a clothing designer. She has been referred to by The Hindustan Times as the “Face of Indian Indie”, as well as been named People Magazine India’s 50 Most Beautiful, Elle Magazine India’s Woman of Tomorrow, as well as Maxim’s Hot 100. CHICKEN

by Sanjay Hingorani Andheri West Resident

BIRYANI Ingredients

1 kg Chicken - I like breast boneless cut in cubes. Some like with bones.
Marinate in 1 cup curds with 1/2 tsp turmeric and 1 tsp each of red chillies jeera n dhandia powder n some fine chopped mint leaves. Keep in fridge 30mins to an hour. Rice: Cook 3 cups of rice in a deep pan with water three times the normal. Add 1-2 tej patta, 4-5 cloves, 2-3 green cinnamon and 1-2 star anise. Bring it to boil and then cook on low heat till the rice is half done. 15 mins tops. Drain and set aside to cool. Garnish: In 1 tbsp of ghee, fry 2 large onion slices till caramalised brownish black. Here you can some cashews or almonds like 1/2 cup or so.

Method In a large pan, heat 2 tbsp of ghee n fry 4-5 chopped garlic n 2 large chopped onions with some jeera n turmeric till browned. Add the marinated chicken and fry till oil starts to leave. Add 3-4 tomatoes blended here with 2 tbsp of kasuri methi. Add salt now. Cook till water evaporates and a nice thick gravy is formed. Your kitchen and your entire home should smell divine right about now. Layer the briyani: At the bottom is the chicken with thickish gravy. Add the rice on top. Some people make two layers. Chicken rice then again chicken rice on top. For me it doesn’t make sense. Coz when you dig in everything gets mixed up anyways. On top layer of rice add the caramelized onions n nuts. I like some sweetness in my biryani so I add a handful of raisins / kishmish. Cover the biryani with a tight lid and keep it on a tava which is on a very low flame. Not direct flame as the chicken at the bottom might over cook or burn. This process is called “Dum” par rakhna. Here the half cooked aromatic rice gets cooked / steamed under pressure and the flavors of the chicken also mix. The lid should not be airtight or it might explode. Enough to let some steam escape. 15 mins should do.

Now some pointers. You can add kewra water 1 tsp at time of Dum. Can also add some saffron mixed with some milk here. Some people add boiled eggs. Some people add yellow n red food colors. They make the biryani look attractive but do not enhance the flavors. Can cook in oil. But please add 1 tbsp ghee in the end just before serving.

38

Serving: Dig in straight down like you would cut n serve a cake. This way you will get the garnish on top then rice and finally the chicken at the bottom. I like to sprinkle some chopped coriander or mint on my plate. Normally a raita goes well with the biryani. One can have tomato onion green chili raita, mint raita, mine was cucumber celery n spring onion raita. Eat n Enjoy !

(BPT) - “Sweets for the sweet” will always be appropriate for Valentine’s Day, but what if your sweetheart isn’t a fan of boxed chocolates? Or perhaps you want to give an extra special gift by making it homemade? Baking a treat for your loved one is a great way to give a personal - and cost-effective - gift this year.

Toffee and Almond Fudge Cookie Cups

Fortunately, you don’t have to be a pastry chef or even an expert home baker to create something delicious and full of love. With an easy-to-make recipe and a few baking tips, even the cooking-challenged can create something special.

Cookies, cupcakes or candy? How to choose which one to make? Why choose at all? These cookie cups marry the sweetest of all worlds in a single treat sure to win the heart of any loved one.

Keep these simple baking tips in mind: * Follow recipes as precisely as possible. Seasoned bakers may succeed with experimentation, but if you’re new to baking or not confident of your improvisational skills, sticking to the recipe should yield the best results. * Measure all ingredients carefully. A tablespoon too much or too little of any ingredient can make a big difference in a recipe. * Be careful with oven temperature settings. Don’t try to speed baking with a temperature higher than what the recipe calls for. If the recipe specifies different temperatures for different types of baking dishes, be sure to choose the setting that matches your type of bakeware. * Resist the temptation to remove baked goods from the pan, dish or sheet right away. Allow baked goodies to cool for the amount of time prescribed in the recipe. Rushing it could result in crumbling or cracking. Armed with these tips, try surprising your sweetheart with these easy, delicious recipes from Pillsbury.com:

About the Author

N

eeraa Maini Srivastav is a fiction writer and an advertising professional of Indian origin. With a vast repertoire of creative projects worldwide in her métier, she drew her inspiration from being around literary greats. Armed with a Masters degree in Literature and a penchant for storytelling, her quest continued with her professional years as a senior creative, both in India and abroad in reputed agencies like Lintas (now Lowe), Saatchi & Saatchi, Mudra to name a few. The compelling need to crossbreed creativity made her contribute her sensibilities to India’s reputed movie production and media houses such as Mukta Arts and The Times of India. From building brands to penning mindful features for publications, she straddles both worlds with equal élan and has even made a foray into screenwriting for both television and cinema. Neeraa’s avid interest in new age spirituality and metaphysics makes her live the adage ‘I create, therefore I am’. Her unparalleled panache and grace in her narrative shines through her previous tomes; rights to ‘The White Crow’ had been acquired by Podar School for syllabus while she often serves as a Guest speaker at leading public schools and symposia. Her second novel “The adventures of the Bubblegum boy” is now being adapted for a theatre production. Her new fiction ‘1friend request sent from Hanuman’ is yet another unique fiction, that has already earned a record no of fans on social media. She lives in Mumbai and you can find her exploring ever-newer horizons, chitchatting with her characters from her next page-turner... At the book launch Kaveta Chaudhry (of ‘Udaan’ & ‘lalitaji’ fame) said ,” Like the film ‘PK’, the book questions conventional systems without making judgements or causing disturbance of any kind and is a riveting read....indeed it is written brilliantly. Every sentence describes has clear and great visualization. It brought me a lot of joy. ” She said “about my favorite character of the book, it is 10 year old Pia, she is innocent, strong and sharp and the tome’s super star. The redeeming note came when the author Neeraa Maini Srivastav said “the book is not so much about Hanuman but about faith that resides not in any religion but in the human heart.” “I loved reading this book by Neeraa on the super connection of new age kid to hanuman to solve her unresolved questions compelling interesting”

6. Water is therapeutic and is therefore the perfect means of rehabilitation for any older dog recovering from an accident resulting in injuries. In order for water to reach its full healing potential, it needs to be warm, close to dogs’ body temperature. 7. Warm water increases blood circulation to the muscles, increasing the supply of oxygen and flushing away waste products from the body, leading to muscle relaxation and reduction in pain and thus enhances healing. This is very beneficial for geriatric dogs.

HYDROTHERAPY FOR A

8. Swimming tones most of the muscle in the body and improves general overall fitness of a geriatric dog. Movement in the water more difficult because of the resistance of the water. Swimming is a non-weight baring exercise, and this makes it actually a lot healthier for the dogs than a regular walk or run, where their joints are put under high pressure. This aspect is what makes hydrotherapy ideal for recovering dogs, as they need to

build muscles up to regain full use of the limbs, but are constantly held back by not being able to weight bare for many weeks after the operation or trauma. 9. Hydrotherapy can be used to start building up muscle at a much earlier date, optimistically meaning a speedy recovery for your much loved companion. By increasing pain free limb movement against the resistance of water, muscle bulk will grow and thus muscle wastage will be reversed in older dogs. 10. The heart has to work in order to meet the increased demand for nutrients by all the muscles which are being worked. For most dogs a short swim is a challenging workout but the buoyancy of the water and the fact that cannot fall or twist makes hydrotherapy a safe and effective form of exercise for older dogs.

Hydrotherapy is a form of low impact physiotherapy. Physiotherapy that takes place in water is called hydrotherapy. As we all know, swimming is fantastic exercise, and for nearly all dogs, from puppy to geriatric, dogs with arthritis and other health problems. It helps to build and maintain muscle mass, increase range of motion, improve circulation, relieve pain, stiffness and swelling, and provides mental motivation. Hydrotherapy is great if your dog is older, fights to move or climb stairs, is arthritic or handicapped, overweight, recovering from surgery, or experiencing behavioural issues and is also great for dogs who haven’t yet learned to swim or who are afraid of water. Hydrotherapy is total body exercise for your dog. Hydrotherapy is a carefully controlled, closely monitored activity for pets in a heated, clean and specially designed pool. Hydrotherapy workouts involve all the muscle movement used in day to day movement.

Benefits from hydrotherapy: 1. Hydrotherapy is a great form of exercise for geriatric dogs because most of the muscles normally used in the movement are involved without the stresses caused by movement on hard ground. Hydrotherapy allows the working out and strengthening of the muscle without stressing the dog. 48

LIVE… by Divya Panday

Life gives you many opportunities but with opportunities it gives you a lot of challenges. The ratio of opportunity is always less than the ratio of challenges. Isn’t it? It’s because we do not see the opportunities and our mind is pre occupied with negativity and a thought in our mind - “why does this happen to me?” Can you relate? I am sure many of you including me at times. I am no exception to it. But this is time when you really need to give sometime for yourself. This is the time when you need to sit and introspect and ask questions to yourself that the things which are happening to you are really because the Supreme Power wants you to be in trouble or they are the outcomes of your own choices and thoughts. There are few things which

should always be remember, the first one is anything happening to you right now good or bad is because of the decisions that you have made and it is because of your Karma so let’s not play the blame game. Second – Everything in this world has to end, even your life, so make sure to live it beautifully in the present so that you can have brighter and a beautiful life tomorrow. Third- Learn to let go, let go the anger, the selfishness, the bad thoughts, the jealousy, judging other people. Instead concentrate on yourself and not what others are lacking. See what you are lacking and improve it.

and be loved. Stop Expecting. Stop hurting yourself because of others. Stop thinking what other people think about you. It is your life, live your way but beautifully and respectfully. Be proud of yourself. Motivate yourself. Appreciate yourself often. In this crowded world, find your own space, find a new you. Rediscover yourself. In this glittering world, spread your own light, shine like a sun. There are so many things that you always wanted to do. Do them. Don’t wait. Let’s get started. And do not forget to Breathe. ☺

Let’s try to build a character like a lotus flower. Smile. Laugh. Live. Love. Give. Dance. Imagine. Dream. Achieve. Trust. Appreciate. Thank. Support. Don’t Compare. Learn. Say No. Say Yes. Respect. Care. Pray. Remember. Have faith. Be patient. Accept. Understand that no one is perfect. Be beautiful. Be inspired. Be creative. Be the change. Fly. Celebrate. Start living and stop worrying. Love

PISCES (February 19th-March 20th) This month, you will find lots to engage your interest and pique your curiosity, especially in the emotional zone. MY FABOLOUS 30 30 minutes of a Mother’s morning Sunshine.... (recommended by Editor)

Some routines become your life. While my mind hates the morning alarm my heart wakes up with a lot of joy. In the upcoming busy day where hours are dedicated to corporate persons & a few good friends these are the fabulous 30. Every minute counts. It always begins with beating my own record everyday to take the least bit of time to freshen up before I get to the real task. So when I am all set in less than 5 mins; I snuggle back again in the bed with my bundle of joy. No way would I want this to end; but I start to move him around; getting to hug me closely and showering his head with the uncountable kisses. On yeah he is surely sleeping but still quite awake to know what is coming ahead. As his hands tighten his grip around me I know that the mission to get

CINE MAA

him out of his deep slumber is accomplished. I know that he is listening. Each morning; unconsciously my mind is making a different conversation; some silly question, some sweet nothing’s to grab his attention. The ticking if the clock is the only sound other than my voice. Slowly we are getting there. He opens his eyes look at me, smiles and pull me closer for that hug & then it is his time for a story so that we can continue in his favorite spot for more. When the clock’s ticking faster his sweet tales are getting faint attention. However there is no giving up so easy... Then cones the invincible quote of just one minute which I am most willing to forgo for the power hug that keeps me going for the next many hours where this sticking small baby will be all by himself until we retire to where we began from! The min is obviously longer but quick to end. Then start the rounds of robotic activities until we see a transformed young boy; mostly happy; sometimes angry and sometimes sad about this unchanging

schedule. Don’t know what he is thinking but as each morning passes I surely pray that it stays for more. Once the soldier is ready it is his way; from the no of strokes the brush can take to fix the hair; to re position some things in the uniform if they were fixed in hurry to the watch that will be in his hand today. When he is all set to march out for his day I sit back to think how in minutes the small, cuddly boy transformed into an individual as I broke his sleep. No matter what; till it can, I wish this were the only way I start my day. 6:30 to 7:00 am ... It is my fabulous 30.

I have been searching for her in so many reels , yet each time she manifests herself in different ways. Now i see a mother nurturing her kind and sometimes a daughter protecting her soil. Now i see a sister lost in the world and sometimes a stranger revealing the path. I have been searching for her in so many reels , yet each time she manifests herself in different ways. A wife A widow A fighter A lover An assassin A savior A friend. She dons so many roles. Her silence speaks so many languages. Her shadow hides so many shades. Now i see her. I have been searching for her in so many reels, yet each time she manifests herself in deferent ways. A creation with so many heads. A force that can level great men. Now i see her. She is that indispensable part of me that brought me into this world. She is my inspiration and she is my muse. She is Maya and she is Shakti. I have been searching for her in so many reels , yet each time she manifests herself in different ways. Celebrating the contribution of women in a century of Indian Cinema. 54
