The Movie Award Shows Amongst the diversified religions existent in our country we all have a common religion called Movies. The celebrations are almost every week on a Friday and to commemorate these weekly celebrations we have their annual Film Awards ceremonies. Usually falling in the month of January and February we have seen the emergence of every possible sponsored Film Award Ceremony. We all like to know who won and who didn’t. Who danced during the awards ceremony and who cracked a joke on a fellow member of the industry. But over the years with a plethora of these award ceremonies with almost similar sense-of-humor (or lack of), we tend to really not care. The novelty of Live telecast and finding the unexpected winners seems to have disappeared. In order to fulfill our desire of being fed with the dose of stardom, thank God there are the Oscars. If you are a movie buff like me, I am sure you would wake up at 5am IST to watch the Oscars Live telecast from the Kodak theatre in Los Angeles. Somehow, the Oscars still offer the fantasy world that the movies were always meant to make-believe. Everyone gathers with a chance to win. Be it a newcomer or a veteran.

Editor-in-chief Anubhav Anand @anubhavanand

Apart from the celebrarions of the movies of the previous year, the Award Shows are meant to have a sense of mystery, a sense of hope and the sense of Victory that brings everyone from the film fraternity together. The same things that pulls the audience in front of their TV screens - mystery, hope and victory. Awards are not meant to please the stars, but to justify the sensibility of todays intelligent audience.

This Women’s Day let’s make a resolution to make yourself a priority, not only in your work front but also at home. We don’t need to get fit just because we have a family function, a special occasion or because we are participating in an event. Health for a homemaker, a mother, a woman or a girl is as important as feeling “Complete”. Training Beauty Queens like the pageants of Miss Universe 2014 and Miss India 2015, made me realize that there is no reason why you and I should be different. We can all be Beauty Queens in our own right, simply make the choice. Here it comes, the month of the festival of colors. Splashing colored water, smearing friends with color and tossing water balloons on each other, having glasses full of chilled thandai, listening to evergreen Holi songs is the order of the day and any offence caused to anyone is washed away. Holi would not be so colorful if you played with only one color, your financial life needs multiple shades. Avoid putting all your money in one asset class. Diversification is the key to lessen your risk significantly. Each color/investment class has its own characteristics. Let us look at all those colors. i. Blue symbolizes security & responsibility ii. Red denotes energy, emotions and confidence. iii. Green signals growth and wealth. iv. Yellow symbolizes sunshine, happiness and warmth Let us see what each of these colors signifies in our financial life: a. Contingency Funds (Blue): Money for emergencies is crucial and the thumb rule is to have three months to six month of expenses. It could either remain in a fixed 22

by Vishal Dhawan

deposit or can be parked into a liquid fund. b. Investment for Life Goals (Red): After articulating your goals in life and the time period for those goals, one important thing is to know your risk tolerance, so that you understand if the underlying risks of your investment are in sync with your personal risk taking ability. Many a times we have seen investments, which may be risky or may be locked in, thereby not providing access to money when needed. This happens because a friend or relative suggested some investment and we just went ahead with it without paying heed to whether that was relevant to our case or not. For e.g., a PPF account may be a good investment but not if you plan to become an entrepreneur in two years, and need access to capital. c. Wealth Creation (Green): – Investing in yourself for professional growth to create a rising income stream, and regular investing are the key to long-term wealth creation. Systematic investing over longterm time frames has delivered excellent corpus generation for investors. The trick is to diversify, or ensure that your wealth is spread well across multiple asset classes like equities, fixed income, real estate and commodities.

d. Retirement Planning (Yellow): Planning for your sunset years is critical. Determine how much income you will require to live contentedly in your post-retirement years. Remember, inflation on your expenses continues, even after you retire. Always keep in mind that systematic and early retirement planning helps you build a nice nest egg. If you start early, preferably soon after you start earning, your savings and investments compounded over the long-term increase your wealth exponentially. So this Holi, let us follow four mantras of successful investing: i. Save & Invest regularly ii. Start Early iii. Use Tax Benefits iv. Invest to beat inflation. Please take some time off to think if your finances are about you and your thoughts and ideas. If not, it’s about time to draw up your personal financial plan, a plan that’s about you. !! Forget the pricey trip to the spa with simple DIY tips and tricks (BPT) - With a whole new year ahead, now is the perfect time to relax and refresh with at-home spa treatments that are easy, natural, luxurious and, best of all, affordable. “Skin care does not have to be costly to be effective,” says Janet Little, director of nutrition at Sprouts Farmers Market. “By preparing your own body care products, you can have beautiful-looking skin, slow down premature skin aging and save money.” As a matter of fact, you probably already have fresh and natural ingredients in your refrigerator and cupboards, or you can easily purchase them from a grocery store like Sprouts Farmers Market, says Little. These simple ingredients can eliminate dry skin, reduce wrinkles, banish dark under eye circles and relax sore muscles. The advantages of homemade skin care products include: * Significant savings. Most of the products that you’ll use are already in your home, and are less expensive than department store-bought skin care products or spa treatments. * Avoiding harsh chemicals. Artificial ingredients found in typical drug store beauty products may contain cancer-causing compounds which can penetrate the skin and potentially cause harmful effects.

* Always natural and fresh. Skin care products purchased in a store contain preservatives to avoid bacteria contamination and growth. On the other hand, when you prepare your skin care items yourself you get a fresh and natural batch every time. * Easy and fun to make. Simple recipes take minutes to prepare, but can be just as effective as store bought products. Here are a few easy, at-home spa recipes that will leave you glowing:

Gentle exfoliant: * Brown sugar is a natural and affordable exfoliant with many health benefits, while grapeseed oil gently and deeply moisturizes skin without clogging pores. Ingredients: 1/2 cup grapeseed oil 1/2 cup brown sugar Mix together with your fingers. Apply to face and body by rotating in a circular motion. Rinse off with warm water. 25

Firming facial mask: Egg white is great for tightening and toning skin and helps shrink pores. Yogurt is packed with vitamins and proteins which promotes strong wrinkle-free skin. Ingredients: 1/2 tablespoon vitamin E oil 1 tablespoon yogurt 1 egg white Whisk together. Massage onto face and neck. Leave on for at least 20 minutes. Rinse off with warm water. Avocado-honey facial mask: Avocados are rich in omega-3 fatty acids, perfect for hydrating and great for moisturizing skin. Honey acts as a natural humectant, boosting skin’s hydration and is also a wonderful skin lightening agent. Ingredients: 1/2 avocado 1/2 cup Sprouts orange blossom honey First, place a cloth in warm water and apply to your face to open the pores. Mash avocado until creamy, combine 26

with honey and apply to face for 15 to 30 minutes. Rinse off with warm water, then use cold water to close the pores. Use once a week. Wrinkle reducer: Banana is wonderful as an anti-wrinkle treatment. Ingredients: 1 over-ripe banana Mash 1/4 banana until very creamy. Spread all over face and leave for 15-20 minutes before rinsing off with warm water followed by a dash of cold. Gently pat dry. Under-eye circle treatment: Grated potatoes can lighten under-eye circles. Potatoes contain an enzyme called catecholase, which is used in cosmetics as a skin lightener. Ingredients: 1 potato Cheese cloth

Run one spud through your food processor and stuff the raw mash into a piece of cheesecloth. Apply to the area directly beneath your eye - don’t let the potato juice come in contact with the eye itself - and leave for 15 to 20 minutes. Wipe away the starchy residue. Tired and aching muscle relaxer: Epsom salts and essential oils are known for their powerful ability to sooth sore muscles and relieve aches and muscle pain. 1/2 cup Epsom Salt 5 drops lavender essential oil 2 drops chamomile essential oil Place Epsom salts in a mixing bowl and add drops of essential oil. Mix ingredients together and add to a hot bath. When using natural ingredients, there are endless possibilities. If you don’t have the time to create your own in-home beauty products, Sprouts offers an assortment of high-quality body care products made with sustainable and ethically sourced ingredients at great values.

Better knowledge, products make

‘aging gracefully’ easier than ever

(BPT) - Did your grandmother age gracefully? She might have thought growing older with poise meant accepting age-related changes in her skin and overall health, or that costly cosmetic surgery was the only way to look her best as she grew older. Today, better health knowledge and leading-edge products have revolutionized the concept of what it means to age gracefully. Growing older is inevitable, but looking and feeling old don’t have to be. Here are five important actions women of any age can take to ensure they stay healthy and looking good throughout their lives. * Get and stay active. Health authorities, including the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, recommend healthy adults get at least two hours and 30 minutes of moderate aerobic activity (such as brisk walking) every week, and engage in muscle-strengthening activities at least two days a week. The benefits of exercise are many, including helping with weight control, lowering the risk of heart disease, improving cardio-vascular health and even supporting brain health. It’s never too late to become active, so talk to your doctor about an exercise routine that works for you. www.shutterstock.com/ Andresr

* Take care of your skin. It’s the body’s largest organ and the one that protects all the others. Skin also directly affects how we look and how we feel about our appearance. Fortunately, the latest skincare technology makes it possible to care for your skin while visibly reducing the signs of aging. For example, glo therapeutics Cyto-luxe Hydration+ uses plant stem cells to help deep hydration while instantly smoothing and refining the skin’s surface. Triple Action Serum combines Hydroquinone, Retinol and Glycolic Acid to improve skin texture and tone while lightening hyperpigmented areas. Some products, such as glo therapeutics Line Smoother, work in as little as 30 minutes to smooth and tone fine lines and wrinkles. * Protect against sun damage. Sun exposure is the leading cause of premature aging of the skin and can even lead to skin cancer. Always wear sunscreen to protect all exposed skin - even hands and feet. Choose a broad spectrum product with an SPF of 30 or more. Many sunscreens can do double duty to enhance your appearance while protecting your skin. Moisturizing Tint SPF 30+ from glo therapeutics is perfect for lightweight broad-spectrum sun protection while offering a sheer hint of color. www.shutterstock.com/ Maksim Toome

* Make good nutrition a lifestyle. Proper nutrition throughout life impacts overall health, including weight and the health of your muscles, digestive system, bones and brain. It also affects the appearance, clarity and elasticity of skin. Be sure to follow a balanced diet. The U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Food Pyramid is a good guideline for nutrition. For help understanding nutrition, talk to your doctor or a certified nutritional counselor. www.shutterstock.com/ Maks Narodenko

* Take care of your bones. Osteoporosis - the gradual loss of bone mass over time - is a concern for women as they age. Bone health is essential for overall health, and directly affects a woman’s ability to maintain mobility and posture later in life. The National Osteoporosis Foundation says you can support your bone health in many ways, including ensuring you get plenty of calcium and vitamin D - either in your diet through lean dairy products or through supplements - engaging in bone-building exercises, choosing foods that are good for bone health like fruits and vegetables, avoiding smoking and limiting alcohol consumption to just two or three drinks a day. Growing older doesn’t mean you have to feel and look “old.” Empowered with knowledge and the right products, it’s possible to age gracefully, stay healthy and look your best. 27

Holi Hai Bhai Holi Hai

H

oli got its name as the “Festival of Colors” from Lord Krishna, a reincarnation of Lord Vishnu, who liked to play pranks on the village girls by drenching them in water and colors.

The festival marks the end of winter and the abundance of the upcoming spring harvest season. The best places to celebrate Holi in India really depend on what kind of experience you want to have. You’ll find activities taking place almost all over India, but they range from traditional temple rituals to modern parties with DJs, bhang, and plenty of colors. See which of these places, with totally different Holi festival celebrations, appeal to you the most.

1. Barsana: Holi with Sticks

Indian men don’t always rule the roost! The women of Barsana village near Mathura in Uttar Pradesh beat up men from neighboring Nandgaon village with sticks, in what’s known as Lathmar Holi celebrations. Lathmar Holi takes place around a week before the main day of Holi. On March 1, the start of Holi celebrations at Banke Bihari temple in Vrindavan is the main attraction. It’s worth getting to Barsana a couple of days in advance of Lathmar Holi so that you can also experience Laddoo Holi festivities there. Sweets are thrown around and spiritual songs related to Radha and Krishna are sung.

2. Mathura and Vrindavan: Traditional Holi

Holi celebrations get underway on Vasant Panchami (end of winter), 40 days before the main Holi day, in the temple towns of Mathura and Vrindavan, four hours from Delhi. Mathura is where Lord Krishna was born, while Vrindavan was where he spent his childhood. The main venue for Holi celebrations in Mathura is in the vicinity of Holi Gate. A long procession with colors and music takes place on Holi (March 6, 2015) from the temples along the river to the gate. The Sri Krishna Janmastham in Mathura holds a renowned show in the week before Holi. The week long celebrations at Banke Bihari temple in Vrindavan are also legendary.

3. Shantiniketan, West Bengal: Cultural Holi

The celebration of Holi as Basanta Utsav (Spring Festival) in Shantiniketan was started by famous Bengali poet and Nobel Laureate Rabindranath Tagore. Inspired by spring and the colors of Holi, he introduced the occasion as an annual event in his Vishva Bharati University there. Students dress up in spring colors and put on a huge cultural program for visitors, including dances to Tagore’s songs. This is followed by the usual throwing of colors. Vasanta Utsav has become a cherished part of Bengali history and culture, and it attracts numerous foreign tourists. Note that festivities happen a day earlier than the given date for Holi in other parts of India.

Happy Holi

4. Purulia, West Bengal: Folk Holi

A three day Basanta Utsav folk festival takes place in the Purulia district of West Bengal. It runs in the lead up to Holi and on the actual day. You’ll get to sing and play Holi with the locals, as well as enjoy a wide variety of unique folk art. This includes the remarkable Chau dance, Darbari Jhumur, Natua dance, and songs of West Bengal’s wandering Baul musicians. What makes the festival special is that it’s organized by villagers as a way of helping sustain themselves. The location is around 5-6 hours by train from Kolkata, or transport in private vehicles can be arranged. Accommodation is provided in tents and there are portable toilets as well.

5. Anandpur Sahib, Punjab: Warrior Holi

Experience Holi the Sikh way at Anandpur Sahib in Punjab! Hola Mohalla is an annual fair that dates all the way back to 1701. It was first organized by Sikh Guru Gobind Singh to celebrate Holi. However, instead of throwing colors, expect to see a demonstration of physical agility. There’s wrestling, martial arts, mock sword fights, acrobatic military exercises, and turban tying.

ANDHERI WEST CELEBS on Celebrating Holi in their Hood... Pooja Chopra: It’s a good opportunity to meet and greet the neighbors who are otherwise busy in their hectic lives. Exchange of sweets is what I really look forward to, rain dance is quite an attraction for all ages young and old in Raheja Classique. Just love seeing people in high spirits with colors all over them. The energy, vibe is extremely positive and young. I go out with my friends, dance to great music, meet people, enjoy and have lots of fun! Holi happens to be one of my favorite festivals. Just the scrubbing off the color is hectic and although the next day is half full only with saloon appointments it’s still all worth it. Hussain Kuwajerwala: Holi is extra special in my hood because the energy, the colors, has everybody in their best mood… We just need a reason to celebrate and dance, unwind with friends and have a gala time. Colors of music, colors of Love, colors of Affection… Lets play ‘Holi’.

Ruslaan mumtaz: Holi has always been special not just in my house but the area too. It’s a mix of love friendliness and colors keeping the respect of each other in mind and not going all out to throw color on each other. It’s fun.

Karanveer Bohra: Holi is extra special in my hood Andheri coz all my TV and Film friends stay this side... so we all plan to make a big gang and go crazy this Holi again...

Mugdha godse: the festival is special it’s colorful to begin with and I love color. Having said that am not a vet Holi playing person but I do respect the festival and people who love to play it luckily for me am surrounded by people who respect my thought process and don’t barge in throwing colors they jst put a dot on my face which is nice and that’s beautiful cos you know you’re safe even if you walk out.

RECIPE

Method: Sieve Almond Powder and Icing Sugar together Combine the caster sugar and water in a saucepan, Place over medium heat and bring to a boil. Place the egg white in a mixer bowl. Using the wire whip attachment, whip egg whites on medium speed to soft peak stage. As soon as the sugar syrup reaches 121°c, remove the saucepan from the heat and pour the syrup in a thin, steady stream into the whipping egg whites. After all the sugar syrup is incorporated in the egg whites, add the Almond Powder and Icing sugar in the mixing bowl and mix it using a spatula. Once incorporated, work the batter a little more briskly until the correct consistency is achieved. When the batter is just starting to turn glossy, it is at the right stage for piping. The batter should flow in very thick ribbons when the spatula is lifted.

Ingredients: (For macaroons) Almond Powder 50g Icing Sugar 50g Egg Whites 33g Castor Sugar 67g Water 20g Red color (For Frosting) Cream Cheese 50g Fresh Cream 50g White chocolate 50g Cherry filling 50g

Fill up a Pastry bag with a Round tip nozzle 1cm diameter, and pipe Concentric circles about 5-6 cms onto a Baking Sheet on a tray. After all the circles are piped, tap the tray from below to get the excess air out. Rest them for about 30 min or till a skin is formed and bake it at 140-145°C for 12-13 mins. For Frosting: Cream The Cream Cheese first in a mixing bowl using a paddle attachment till soft. Then add Fresh Cream and continue to mix till soft and fully incorporated. Lastly added melted chocolate to the still moving mixture un till fully incorporated. Serving: Pair up Macaroons according to size. Pipe in the Cream Cheese Frosting on four sides and in the center. Put in 4 cherries in between the frosting and one in the center. Put the second Macaroon shell on top. Garnish it with one dried blueberry. Rest them for about 30 mins or till a skin is formed and bake it at 140-145°C for 12-13 mins.

Nutrition choices made easy in the

(BPT) - Should you buy eggs instead of cereal? Popcorn in place of pretzels? For consumers seeking “better-for-you” foods at the grocery store, these types of decisions can feel overwhelming, and for some, time-consuming.

With the help of the NuVal Nutritional Scoring System, making healthier decisions at store shelves becomes easier and quicker. Developed by a team of recognized experts, led by Dr. David Katz of the Yale Griffin Prevention Research Center, the NuVal Nutritional Scoring System was created as a direct response to America’s rapidly rising rates of obesity and diabetes in both adult and child populations. This team advocated the development of an independent and simplified nutritional scoring system to help improve public health.

The easy-to-use NuVal Nutritional Scoring System provides foods throughout participating grocery stores with a score of one to 100, 100 being the most nutritious. Scores are determined by an independent team of nutrition and medical experts who analyze more than 30 nutrition factors such as vitamin D, omega 3 fatty acids, saturated fat and calories. The experts do the research, so consumers can feel better about their food choices. “Choosing the right foods at the grocery store can make or break your healthy meal plan for the week,” says registered dietitian Tammy Lakatos Shames. “When walking the aisles, pick up wholesome foods that are packed with essential vitamins and nutrients. For example, Eggland’s Best eggs are the highest-scoring egg on the NuVal scale and the only egg I recommend to my clients and serve my family due to their superior nutrition!”

32

Check out the foods Tammy recommends for your shopping cart next time you hit the grocery store:

Food

* Fruits and vegetables top the list With a score of 100, vegetables like broccoli and asparagus receive a perfect score due to their nutritional benefits. They provide important nutrients including vitamin A, which helps protect against infections, dietary fiber which helps reduce blood cholesterol levels and may lower risk of heart disease, and folate, which helps the body form red blood cells. * Seafood catches top scores Fishing for healthy foods? Try wild Atlantic salmon filets, which have a score of 96 on the NuVal scale. This fish selection offers calcium, which helps build strong bones, and phosphorus, which helps with digestion. Fish is also a great source of minerals such as iron, zinc, iodine, magnesium and potassium. * Eggs crack the NuVal Code Eggs are a complete protein that keeps you full to prevent snacking and also include important nutrients your body needs throughout the day. Out of 56 brands of eggs reviewed, Eggland’s Best eggs scored the highest at 85. Compared to ordinary eggs, Eggland’s Best eggs contain four times more vitamin D, 10 times more vitamin E and double the omega 3s. Whether you’re an aspiring sommelier or a beer enthusiast, it’s time to pour a glass of something new and see how the other side pairs. Get started with these tips from renowned foodie expert and blogger Brian Samuels of “A Thought for Food.” Samuels recommends the acclaimed, handcrafted wine varietals of Bridlewood Estate Winery along with your beer of choice. For more information visit www.BridlewoodWinery.com. Food: Burger with caramelized onions Beverage: Pinot noir or English IPA Why: Burgers and beer always seem like a natural pairing, but have you ever tried pairing it with a glass of wine? Next time you’re lighting up the grill, pull out a bottle of Bridlewood Pinot Noir. A slight char on the burger pairs beautifully with the hint of black pepper in the wine. For the brew lovers in the group, serve an English IPA. The caramel notes that come through in the beer pair perfectly with burger toppings such as grilled red onions.

Food: Lobster roll Beverage: Chardonnay or Pilsner Why: There are few things more enjoyable than sitting outside on a blazing hot summer day with a tall beer or a glass of wine. Pilsners and chardonnay are lighter options that pair with a variety of foods. For heavier dishes, like a lobster roll, the vanilla notes of a chardonnay go perfectly with the natural sweetness of the lobster meat. If craft beer is more your thing, try a Pilsner. The slight bitterness (from the hops) and sweetness (from the malt) flavors, as well as the fizziness of the beer, help cut through the richness in the creamy lobster roll. Food: Roasted vegetables with Gorgonzola and fresh herbs Beverage: Brown ale or cabernet sauvignon Why: Traditionally cabernet pairs best with meat, but what about a dish for vegetarians? Roast up cold weather favorites such as carrots, parsnips and turnips to bring out their natural sweetness. These satisfying flavors will shine when sipping on cabernet sauvignon with its subtle notes of chocolate and molasses - or try a glass of brown ale, which embodies caramel and nutty flavors. Food: Chocolate truffles Beverage: Red blend or stout Why: End the feast with a plate of decadent chocolate truffles and serve with the Bridlewood Blend 175, loaded with jammy notes. For the beer lovers at the table, a stout, which is rich in chocolate and coffee notes, is another natural accompaniment. 35

A year-round guide TO

(BPT) - When you hear the phrase “pairing tips,” do you instinctively grab your wine opener and pull out stemmed glasses? Wine is divine, but over the past few years there’s no denying that craft beers are trending and getting foodies everywhere excited to re-think pairing possibilities. Artisan and handcrafted beers are no longer just an afterthought on the drink menu - they’re standing tall next to your favorite red and white wine varietals, proving to be just as food-friendly.

PAN FRIED

NOODLES

by Sanjay Hingorani Andheri West Resident

Ingredients 1 cup each, bite sized pieces of
Broccoli
Cauliflower
Mushrooms
Red n Yellow Bell Peppers
Baby corn
Green Peas (optional)
 1 tsp garlic paste
 1 1/2 tsp corn flour
 1/4 cup Soy sauce
 1/4 cup Oyster sauce
 2 tbsp Rice wine vinegar

Method

Boil 3 cups of noodles till half done (this is important, we do not want it mushy as we are going to fry it). We use half for frying. Run them under cold water, strain completely. Keep them on paper towels and under the fan for 30 mins. Heat some oil in a shallow non stick pan, fry some garlic, add the noodles, important, low flame here as we are gonna fry the noodles till then turn golden, also don’t stir the noodles, let them stick together, I let them turn brown on one side and then flip them over. We need some crunch in them. Stir fry all the veggies together with some garlic paste, add the soft noodles n mushrooms in last, as they need very little time to cook. Add the sauces n vinegar. Bring the whole thing to boil, add the corn flour mixed in a little water; we want a thickish gravy here. Done. Layer the brownish; crispy noodles first and then pour the hot sauce mixed veggies n soft noodles on top. Garnish with some more crispy noodles and some chopped spring onions. Note: Add some boiled chicken, to the veggies for non-veg version. Also have not added any chili here. Can add 3-4 tbsp green chili sauce. Eat n Enjoy! 36

THE LOST

PARTY The Story

In the insanity of this ever-expanding universe, in times of commotion and chaos, in this contest to find oneself, do we really know where we are and what lies ahead? The app on your smart phone tries its best to convince you that you’re not lost, but the unavoidable truth is that we don’t have a clue of where we are. Remember youth is wasted on the young; so here’s your second shot at it. The urge is to go back in time, to find the befitting option, to take the road not taken! Let’s escape the world that wants us to grow-up (and behave); and explore what we all left behind. And it should be celebrated! The ideology is to get people to come together to celebrate life and not just music. All in One!

The Journey

The Lost Party is created in order to bring out the ‘gypsy at heart’ in you. That’s what we all are: Wanderers, Explorers, Dreamers and Creators. We are all visitors to this time, this place. We are just passing through. Our purpose here is to observe, to learn, to grow, to love... and then we return home.

The Space

The audience is invited to investigate the concert situation, which in our common, historical perspective, consists of artificial soundscapes and behaves in many ways as a modern-day ritual. Scattered across three stages, music at The Lost Party is as diverse as it gets: electronic, acoustic, classic, any style is welcome and represented in a different area, live concerts, dj sets, solo artists, bands… an inclusive gathering, unveiling the surprising diversity of quality underground soundscapes. The Lost Party is a collective effort of volunteers, artists, crew and patrons, all investing money and time into making it one hellofa festival.

The Experience

The Lost Party is a settlement made of, for, by the god gifted citizens celebrating togetherness, camaraderie and a religion called Music. The aim is to revive a music festival, going beyond the scope of music and adding experiential value to an individual’s getaway. Let’s call it an inspired lifestyle. Never done before concepts such as bottomless cookouts, swimming pool in camps, comic bars, decentralized games and busking among others are going to be the underdogs over and above the traditional avenues of music, loved and unexplored.

S yy There are numerous products that use UV-C light to kill germs, bacteria, viruses and allergens on surfaces quickly, safely and without chemicals.

imple steps can keep ou and our family healthy

(BPT) - Pay attention to the news headlines and you may be wondering if you and your loved ones are safe from unseen perils like germs, bacteria and viruses - even in your home. There are things you can do to protect your health but it’s also good to know where germs linger. Some of their hangouts may surprise you. According to WebMD, there are likely more germs in your kitchen sink than in your toilet. You’re probably using a bowl cleaner to disinfect your toilets, but is the kitchen sink getting equal treatment? Your salt and pepper shakers dispense salt and pepper, but they also dispense cold viruses and other nastiness. A University of Virginia study tested the salt and pepper shakers of 30 adults who were showing signs of a cold, and every one of those shakers tested positive for the cold virus. Now add your TV remote (also the dirtiest thing in your hotel room), your toothbrush, your computer keyboard and mouse, and your bathtub, and you have a good list of the dirtiest places in your home. And your floors? According to University of Arizona researcher Charles P. Gerba, PhD, they can have up to 4,000 times more germs than a toilet seat. So, what can you do to reduce your risk of exposure to germs? Here are a few ideas to help reduce the risks and keep everyone healthy.

* Wash your hands. Your hands come into contact with each of the surfaces mentioned above and they can move viruses and bacteria to your nose, eyes and mouth. This means it’s important to keep them clean. It may seem like a long time to be washing them, but the 20-second rule is for real. Hand sanitizers are useful but not a substitute for good hand washing.

42

VIP GUEST LIST!! Win GIFTS/ Get OFFERS from local businesses. To be part of our VIP List Email: subscribe@livinglocalmag.com

* Sanitize commonly used items. Remember the germs on that salt and pepper shaker? Wiping them off is very beneficial, as is more frequent cleaning of the kitchen sink. And for a deeper clean, consider using products that use UV-C light to kill germs, bacteria and viruses on surfaces. Verilux offers several sanitization tools that use UV-C light to kill up to 99.9 percent of these undesirables - quickly and easily - without chemicals. The 21-inch CleanWave Sanitizing Wand, for example, can be passed an inch above the area you wish to sanitize, be it the keyboard, the remote or those salt and pepper shakers.

“UV-C is a type of ultra-violet light with a shorter wavelength than visible light,” says Verilux President Nicholas Harmon. “The light penetrates a microorganism’s cell membrane and damages its DNA. This prevents growth and kills the organism. These products are the ideal chemical-free cleaning solutions for people who are concerned about their environment, particularly in light of recent headlines.”

* Cough smart. Covering your mouth when you cough or sneeze is just a good habit. But doing so with your hands is a bad health habit. Next time you feel the urge to cough or sneeze, use the bend of your elbow instead. This will keep germs from transferring to your hands.

* Keep the carpets clean. Millions of allergens and germs camp in the carpets and floors of your home. Evict them with the CleanWave Bagless Vacuum and its portable version, the CleanWave Portable Vacuum. These devices use UV-C light to kill germs, viruses and bacteria, as well as microscopic pests like dust mites and flea eggs. You can use the portable vacuum to kill bed bugs before they hatch on mattresses.

don’t be afraid to sit a seat apart whenever you can. You’ll be healthier in the long run for doing so.

Germs and allergens are part of everyday life, but that doesn’t mean they should be able to dominate yours. Keeping your home clean and practicing good health habits can reduce your risk of getting ill and keep you and your family healthy and happy. To learn more about the products available from Verilux, visit www. Verilux.com.

* Avoid close contact. You don’t want to be anti-social but a little separation this time of year can be beneficial to your health. Avoid sharing items such as water bottles, glasses or food with others, and

Four

ways to

spark creativity in your children

(BPT) - As colder months roll in, your children will spend more time indoors so you’ll need to be equipped with indoor activities that will capture their imagination and foster their creativity. Here are a few activities you can do with your kids and keep them active:

Get cooking. Bring out the baker in your child. Invite them into the kitchen to create a fantastic treat for the entire family. Encourage them to help you pick out a recipe, gather all the ingredients and assign the appropriate tasks. Younger children will love mixing, sifting, and sorting, while older kids can try pouring or cutting ingredients. Leave some room for experimenting, adding tasty imaginative ingredients that are not in the recipe. The best part will be enjoying your creation and spending time together as a family.

Build with blocks. We’ve all grown up with building blocks. Some of us still haven’t grown out of them. Construction toys are fun for the entire family and a great way to spend time together. Younger kids will love themed sets like Mega Bloks Barbie Build ‘n Play Fab Mansion or Mega Bloks SpongeBob SquarePants Krusty Krab Attack. Older kids, and even dad, will love authentic collector’s sets based on popular video games. Encourage your children to build freely, letting their imagination inspire them to create unique projects. You never know, you may just be looking at the next great architect or engineer.

Put on a show. Who’s got talent in your family? Best way to find out is to put on a show and let everyone act out. Break the ice with a game of charades or put on a talent show to get the entire family singing and dancing. Encourage your little stars with a standing ovation and give them the confidence to pursue their talent. You may have the next popstar in your living room and you may not even know it.

Create a work of art. Everyone has an artistic side so show your children all the creative activities they can do - painting, sculpting, drawing, etc. See what interests them and give them the instruments to experiment. A fun new customizable tool for kids is the Graphic Skinz Design Studio by RoseArt. It lets them personalize small household objects, like jewelry or a plastic toy, and transforms them into unique works of art. By using a vacuum chamber and the assortment of colorful papers, kids can create one-of-a-kind gifts for family and friends, at home.

The best indoor activities pull the kids away from the screen and into a social environment where they stay active and develop their creative skills. You and your children will look back at these times together with fond memories. Take a lot of pictures and be sure to keep the activities fresh and new. Don’t play cat-and-mouse with rodents: Tips to keep your home pest-free

(BPT) - Though catching mice has been a popular theme in games and cartoons for decades, preventing rodent invasions is not child’s play. Even the most fastidious homeowners can fall victim to a pest invader at some point. Research by the National Pest Management Association (NPMA) reveals that invasive rodents have broken into 29 percent of U.S. homes, bringing with them a slew of health and property hazards. Forty-five percent of those homeowners said the infestation occurred in the fall and winter months. The two rodent species most commonly found in homes are the house mouse and the Norway rat. House mice are the most common invasive rodents, with females producing up to a dozen offspring in as little as three weeks. House mice will eat many kinds of food, and they boast excellent climbing and jumping skills. House mice construct nests using paper products and other materials. They also carry several diseases and their urine and feces can trigger allergies and asthma, especially in children.

Norway rats, much like roof rats, are nocturnal and social, burrowing closely to one another. Norway rats are credited with the ability to gnaw through plastic and lead piping to find food and water. These rats are also known to chew through electrical wires, putting homes at risk for fires. The NPMA offers these tips to help homeowners keep rodents rummaging out in nature - not in the kitchen pantry: 1. Investigate your home from the outside. As mice can enter through an opening as small as a dime, seal all holes and replace loose mortar and weather stripping. Use steel wool to close gaps. 2. Store firewood at least 20 feet from your home and at least 5 feet off the ground. 3. Screen attic vents and openings to chimneys, which could allow unwanted guests into your home. 4. Landscape with pests in mind by trimming back shrubbery and tree branches, which could provide pathways into the home. 5. Use proper storage in the kitchen, basements and attics to prevent rodents from having easy access to food and nesting in cupboards and boxes. (BPT) - Studies show that children in daycare or attending school can catch up to 12 common viral infections each year and that each of these infections can last seven to 10 days. Getting sick is commonly seen as part of growing up but the good news for parents is that you can help support your child’s immune system. Here are five things you can do to potentially help reduce the 12 viral infections a kid can encounter in just one year. * Review hand-washing techniques. This classic practice still remains one of the most effective ways to eliminate germs. You’ve probably already taught your children how to wash their hands, but are they finishing too quickly? Each hand-washing session should last about 20 seconds, according to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC). That’s long enough for children to sing the ABCs twice. Children should also know to wash their hands before eating, making food or handling a baby, and after going to the bathroom, playing outside, touching an animal or sneezing. * Are your child’s vaccinations up to date? Vaccinations won’t prevent your child from catching a cold, but they can protect him from more serious illnesses like the flu. You can find more information on the proper immunization schedule for your child by visiting the CDC’s website. * Support their immune system. Research shows deficiencies in zinc and vitamins A, C, D and E can reduce the overall function of the immune system. Zarbee’s Naturals immune support supplements with ingredients such as Elderberry can help support your child’s immune system when he or she is most susceptible. Created for children ages 2 months to teens, there’s an immune-system supplement for children of any age. There is even an immune support option for parents. * Avoid exposing your child to others who are sick. If your child’s best friend is sick, the play date will have to wait. Remember, children are contagious before their symptoms actually show and distancing your kids from those who are physically coughing or sneezing lowers their risk of getting sick. * Sometimes it’s good not to share. OK, this probably isn’t a life lesson you want your child following most of the time, but some things are better kept to themselves. Bottles, utensils and cups should not be shared between children, as bacteria is easily transferred through saliva. Make sure your child has his own lunch and that he knows not to share with or borrow from other students at mealtime.

While cooler temperatures and the continuing school year increase your child’s risk of catching an illness, your child can reduce his risk for getting sick. Employ the tips above and you can help your child stay safe and healthy this school year. To learn more about how Zarbee’s Naturals can support your child’s immune system, visit www.zarbees.com.

Hello beautiful people! What a month! How time just runs away. It’s March! The month of colors! “Mere color, unspoiled by meaning and unallied with definite form, can speak to the soul in a thousand different ways” – Oscar Wilde Fill your life with beautiful colors and spread the happiness and love all around the world. The main element world needs today. Like bright Red become energetic so that the people around you are filled with positive energy and could stay away from negativity. Be vibrant like bright Pink when you see the dullness all around. Color yourself Aqua when you are sulking in a corner of a room, become

fresh, cleanse yourself with refreshing thoughts which would fresh the soul. When you are angry or someone else is angry, color yourself or them with the light Blue, become calm, patient and try to be at peace. Be delightfully charming like Purple. Like sky Blue be faithful to the people, most importantly to yourself, be true to yourself, and be contented. Color yourself Yellow, radiate your positivity onto others, become the sunshine for the people who needs you. Like light Yellow, be soft, warming and pleasing. Illuminate your presence all around the world. Splash the Orange color, be happy, become a child, optimistic, jovial and glow with happiness. Like the Golden color, know, understand and appreciate your own value, at the same time, value the things that Almighty has given you. Value the people in your life, the small little things that God does for us and value even the most tiny but beautiful moment that you have experienced. Like Silver, be classy and modern but like Earth Brown, be grounded, rooted and traditional at heart.

Like Black, be so powerful and bold that nothing can break you. Be strong to face the unexpected challenges the life throws at you. Like White, make your soul & character pure, clean and spotless. Understand the simplicity is the key of a happy life. Be silent and listen what the Almighty wants to tell you. Life becomes so boring if it is not colorful, just like an amusement park without rides! Just like a flower without fragrance. Isabel Allende said, “if you change the way you tell your own story, you can change the color and create a life in Technicolor”. And that’s why lets color our life with the most beautiful colors in the world. Happy Holi!

COLORS OF LIFE…

A WOMAN AT HEART

by Pooja Nawani

A house maker; a mom; and some of us the corporate ladies as well but still a woman at heart. When we walk out in the mornings we have arranged our households to run like the fully serviced apartments minus the personal touch; but it is all for a reason and different reasons. Me and my friends at work, yes you read correctly friends at work belong to the clan of working women. Well the biggest achievement that we made in our working careers was to build this home away from home. In order of seniority and in our clan seniority is determined by the strength of keeping us together; let me introduce the famous 6. Aditi the founder; full of positivity, a living calendar who remembers all-important events & always ready to mingle. Shirley the god fairy, our angel and also a super mom. Monika the iron woman strong on the outside and inside & the fast train. Pooja, makes sure she is never forgotten, driving the clan to do what she likes but hopefully loved by everyone. Shilpa the pretty picture, talent house, know all, but tough to catch. And last but not the least Yogita our glamour doll and shopping queen who is either in the office or at the malls. And we all are together because of GE.. Can’t say what the company has given to each of us individually but we are thankful enough for it to get us together & we work for hearts together to repay the debt to grow the 500 billion dollar giant. Through a couple of years the famous 6 discovered a power start for their day and stole a couple of minutes from the hard task hours to meet up once together to eat the most important meal of the day “ the breakfast”. It was an evolving process including fixing the time to marking the territory for the hot meeting. I call it hot as the food and the topics both met the criterion. We eat together and share together. The designated pantry has seen: the rise and fall of many professionals from our eyes, the heart to heart discussions on the happiness and the troubles in our families; the intellectual afterthoughts on the 9 pm serials on colors; the screeching laughter’s on pulling each other’s leg; adding the madness to the most straight topics and sensitive ones too including religion. Some of us reserved our tickets to hell that day & I am sure Shilpa and Aditi made the subsequent temple visits to seek despise. Nonetheless this was what we looked forward to when we left our homes each morning. Like all the other things which are not permanent at work this routine as well once a full house started to loose its participants & while the exits were allowed there was no place for new entrants, coz it was no casual chatting forum requiring new audience, it was our own cozy world. The famous 6 started seeing each other lesser but the inception has made the bonds stronger. The food filled our tummies and the togetherness our souls!
