EDITOR’S LETTER

STAYING PUT T

his time last year, I was packing my bags to head to Thailand. My friends were getting married in Koh Samui and they’d asked me to officiate, which was the honour of a lifetime. I spent two weeks island-hopping, scuba diving, and celebrating the love of two dear friends surrounded by wonderful people I love in a tropical paradise. My point is: this June is going to blow compared to last year’s. A global pandemic is still making it highly risky, if not downright impossible, to go abroad, and the idea of being surrounded by anyone who recently travelled, even human beings I personally think are great, makes me break out in a cold sweat. Such is the new norm of how we define “leisure” in a world still contending with COVID-19. But just because it’s not what I expected isn’t to say that it’s all bad. Faced with the reality of a summer spent at home in Hong Kong, we decided to do some digging and see what we could find to make those long, hot, and so very humid summer days pass any quicker. I was pleasantly surprised to discover that there’s ample attractions and activities, from learning a new watersport (freediving, anyone?) to epic adventures in the subtropical wilderness. Read more about how to have an amazing summer vacation without leaving Hong Kong on p.20. Speaking of watersports, have you ever tried stand-up paddleboarding? Solitary and simple to learn, it’s a great activity to embrace in these pandemic-stricken times, and buying your own inflatable SUP takes the guesswork out of renting. Find out more about them on p.26. If you’re wondering about the future of international travel (and who isn’t, really), our resident expert Kate Springer makes a few informed predictions about how and where we’ll be allowed to travel on p.34. It doesn’t hurt to dream! So this June won’t be the same as last year’s, but I’ve accepted that. Rather than mourning the summer that never was, I’m instead grateful for the natural beauty that I have at my disposal here in Hong Kong. We’re pretty lucky to live in a place that has it all, and I won’t be too sad about the (admittedly forced) opportunity to explore it more over the next few months.

CARLA THOMAS

MEET OUR CONTRIBUTORS Zoe Belhomme explains why baby sleep sacks are vital for a good night’s rest on p.36.

Kate Springer describes how a global pandemic will change travel protocols for months and years to come on p.34.

Sarah Fung gets on board with inflatable SUPs and where to find in HK on p.26.

GREEN SLEEVES

The world’s largest sustainable fashion design competition, the Redress Design Award is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year, marking a decade of trying to dismantle fast fashion from the inside out. Originally launched by Hong Kong-based NGO Redress back in 2011, the global competition selects young designers to participate in an intensive competition cycle filled with sustainable theory and design, before selecting finalists who compete for a shot at creating a capsule collection for sustainable fashion brand, the R Collective. This year’s finalists include Hong Kong-based womenswear designer Grace Lant, as well as finalists from Sri Lanka, Vietnam and Korea. Keen to know more about this admirable effort to tackle waste-heavy fashion, or maybe just educate yourself on how to shop greener? Check out the Redress website and watch out for the winners, who will be announced in September! redressdesignaward.com

SWEAT AND FLOW

If you’re the type who needs a good sweat to feel like you’ve actually worked out, make sure to try Flowga, a new hot yoga studio located in Lan Kwai Fong. Hidden in plain sight in one of HK’s most well located (if a bit notorious) corners, this infrared yoga studio is unbelievably spacious, refreshingly minimalistic, and all about the practice. They offer 60-minute flow classes designed to get you working and sweating, and have eschewed mirrors entirely to reinforce a judgment-free ethos that can sometimes be missing in other hot yoga studios (like any still using the problematic Bikram method, for example). They also have a state-of-the-art sound system to keep the beats going while you flow - quite apropos given the location! Drop-in classes start from $300 with discounted class packs available. A two-week unlimited intro pass can also be purchased for $800 for first-timers. Unit F, 1/F, Winner Building, 37 D’Aguilar St., Central, 9129-1366, flowga-studio.com 10

GOING UP Staying in Hong Kong

THE BIG COVER UP

Say what you want about Hong Kong conglomerates, but some have really shown up for the local community during this pandemic. We were heartened to learn that in addition to distributing more than 2 million masks to the city’s underprivileged since February, New World Development is working with 17 NGOs across Hong Kong to get even more masks to those in need. As part of their Love Without Borders campaign, which kicked off at the end of May, families and individuals in need can show up at any of the 37 NGO partner offices and simply scan a code to retrieve a free pack of masks. New World has worked to produce enough masks for 40,000 pre-registered beneficiaries to receive a pack of five masks every week for ten consecutive weeks. Learn more about the program at lovewithoutborders.hk

If we’re all grounded for the summer, at least we live in an amazing city with so much to do! Read all about how to have the best Hong Kong summer ever on p.20.

Supporting Local Businesses With restrictions on public gatherings relaxed, it’s time to support your favourite local brands. From restaurants to spas, if you’ve got pocket money to spend, put it towards a small business.

Performative Coffee Drinking Why are we all queuing for an hour to take a photo of a heart foam cappuccino in a minimalist coffee shop?

TOWELLING INFERNO

Summer’s here, and we are looking to up our towel game. Rather than bringing your sad, stained bath towels on your next junk, brighten up with a Turkish towel instead. Available from Teresa’s Turkish Towels in a variety of bright, bold prints, these flatweave cotton towels are light (even when wet), fold down super small, are extremely absorbent and, being thinner than traditional towels, are easy to both dry and store. They also make excellent throws, sarongs or even light blankets. Want one for yourself? Teresa’s Turkish Towels has the best selection in Hong Kong, with a gorgeous array of colours and patterns. Prices start at $200. Find the full selection in their store: 3/F, Xiu Hua Commercial Building, 211-213 Jaffe Rd., Wan Chai. Order online at hkturkish.com.

Accidental Selfiecide We are loving all the gorgeous hiking photos on IG, but please stay safe on the trails! The perfect shot isn’t worth a broken leg.

HOW TO

STAY HEALTHY ON A JUNK Once summertime hits, there’s nary a thing we enjoy more than a junk. Sun, sea and good vibes, junk boats are one of the quintessential ways to stay cool in the Hong Kong heat. The only downside? It can be disastrous for anyone trying to eat clean, with catering and free-flow alcohol options not generally suited for the health-conscious passenger. With a little bit of planning and preparation, though, it can be achieved! Here are some ways you can stay healthy on your next junk boat trip. By Carla Thomas

1

12

Eat a big (healthy) breakfast: Load up on a well-balanced breakfast, rich in protein, vitamins and nutrients that won’t leave you famished and falling prey to cravings while you’re on board. A hearty bowl of oatmeal topped with nuts, seeds, berries, and a dollop of Greek yogurt should sustain you well into the afternoon hours.

a healthy junk package 2 Choose or caterer: If you have a say when the junk is being booked, you can always opt for a junk company or caterer that offers healthier dining options. We like Invisible Kitchen for their lowwaste ethos, which cuts down on packaging and food waste, as well as their commitment to using locally sourced produce and ingredients.

Dining

FRESH CUTS 3

CEDERS

BYO-beverage: Junk boats often come equipped with their own bottomless bar, but that doesn’t mean you have to avail yourself of it. With so many zero- or low-alcohol substitutes on the market right now, there’s ample choice for anyone steering clear of the hooch. Try bringing your own bottle of a non-alcoholic spirit, like CEDERS or Sipsmith, or a no-alcohol wine, like Le Petit Beret. If all else fails? Good old fashioned soda water with a squeeze of lime should quench your thirst for the day.

4 Pack your own snacks: It’s tempting to reach for salty crisps after you’ve worked up an appetite splashing around all day, but if you bring your own healthy snack options you’ll have an easy way out. Chopped veggies with guacamole and dip is a great bet, as is a homemade trail mix that loads up on healthy fats and sugars, like nuts, seeds, coconut chips and dried fruit.

5

Reward yourself with a healthy dinner: Give yourself something to look forward to when you head back ashore, and make a plan to hit up one of HK’s healthier eating establishments. We love Locofama in Sai Ying Pun for its organic salad bowls, and its sister restaurant Sohofama in PMQ is closer still to Central piers. Or pick up a takeaway from plant-based kitchens in Central like Treehouse or Mana! to take home with you and enjoy.

Dining news that’s good for you

OMNIPORK DEBUTS VEGAN LUNCHEON MEAT Plant-based porcine purveyors Omnipork rocked the Asian region two years ago, when they launched a meatless pork mince that could easily be substituted in regional dishes like xiao long bao or mapo doufu. They topped that last month by debuting the world’s first plant-based luncheon meat, which contains 40 percent fewer calories and 49 less fat than traditional canned pork luncheon meat. They’ve also launched their first plant-based pork strips, making it easier than ever to make your next stir-fry animal-free. omnipork.co

HARMONY DESSERT LAUNCHES PLANT MILKBASED ICE CREAMS Cool down this summer with a plant milk gelato from Hong Kong startup Harmony Dessert. Made with a base of either cashew or almond milk, these allnatural vegan icy treats are high in fibre, low in sugar, and made from all-natural ingredients. There are six flavours in the cashew milk line, including lemon poppy seed, raspberry, strawberry, matcha, chocolate and mango, while the almond milk line has pistachio, dark chocolate and hazelnut coffee flavours. CHEAT DAY

SUGAR RUSH Totally addicted to sweets? Then you’ll definitely want to stop by Spun Candy, a confectionary specialising in bespoke sweet creations that are (almost) too beautiful to eat! The brand’s signature treats are personalised lollipops, which are handcrafted to resemble a loved one’s face (yes, really!) working off a high-resolution image you provide. If the idea of seeing yourself candified isn’t quite the rush you were after, opt for personalisations with names, messages, designs and colour schemes instead - it’s all about the personal touch! First opened in Covent Garden back in 2013, Spun has slowly been spreading its signature sugary goodness around the world in cities like Paris and Dubai, and we’re buzzing about their arrival in Hong Kong. Check out their newly opened store in Harbour City, where you can personalise a lollipop with your name on it in minutes, or pick up some of their other tasty treats like hard rock candy, honeycomb, toffee brittle, fudge, and more. thletes looking to reach their optimum protein intake know that it can sometimes feel like a chore. And if you’re vegan? It can be a nightmare. A healthy pre or post-workout shake or protein bar is the safest and most practical option, but we all get bored of the same flavours, day after day. Wouldn’t it be lovely to have a different flavour every day of the week, without repetition and boredom? What about instead of vanilla or strawberry, you could have a tiramisu flavour shake, or chocolate brownie bar, or even an apple pie & cinnamon post-workout drink? With a history of 20 years in the Health and Nutritional industry, Atlhetica Nutrition has just landed in Asia. This multi-award-winning nutrition company is beloved for its quality vegan protein, and with more than 26 flavours available, there’s always a new taste to discover.

WE KNOW EVERYTHING ABOUT TASTE.

Why does our daily protein intake matter? Protein is essential to good health. The very origin of the word - from the Greek protos, meaning “first” reflects protein’s status as the building block of human nutrition. You need it to put ‘bricks’ on your bones and to make hair, blood, connective tissue, antibodies, enzymes, and more. It’s common for athletes and bodybuilders to wolf down extra protein to bulk up, but even if you’re not an athlete, paying attention to your protein intake is key to a healthy life and good body maintenance. Thyago Garatina, a professional athlete and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu coach living in Hong Kong and sponsored by Althetica Nutrition, says: “Training for most martial arts is physically and metabolically demanding, often involving multiple sessions per day. I need to simultaneously develop numerous disciplines and techniques, strength, and cardiovascular endurance. Ensuring a regular intake of quality protein is essential for my performance.” Althetica’s line of protein bars are 100 calories and are low-carb and sugar-free, delivering 10 grams of protein per bar. They come in eight delicious flavours, including caramelized banana, chocolate truffle, and even the Latin-inspired churros flavour.

WORKOUT

SPONSORED

Animal Flow at AndFit The Buzz: Taking “beast mode” to a very literal interpretation, Animal Flow is a workout that uses different ground-based movements that somewhat mimic the movement of animals, emphasising body weight training, balance, coordination and agility. The Class: We head to AndFit, a newly opened fitness studio on Wyndham Street, for their evening Animal Flow with instructor Zelos. He’s clearly passionate, taking time to explain the basics like wrist mobilisations for all us newbies (everyone in the class). We move onto the “primal movements” that make up the foundation of the practice, like the “Beast” and “Crab” activation positions. Zelos then demos a long, graceful routine (the aforementioned “flow”) with so many moves that there’s no shot in hell, we’re sure, we’ll be able to follow. Still, Zelos breaks down each part of the choreography and we gamely try our best, surprised at how manageable yet challenging the movements are. Much to our surprise, by the end of class, we’re more or less feeling the flow and running with the pack. The Verdict: No stranger to yoga, we were confident this class would be a walk in the park. Rather, we were surprisingly challenged by the strength, endurance, power, flexibility, balance, mobility, and coordination that were required to make our bodies move in new and unfamiliar ways. While it’s nice to switch off when we work out, there’s also something very refreshing about needing to focus entirely, not to mention the satisfaction of seeing what your body is capable of. We’re pretty wild about this one!

16

Heveya Plush Latex Pillow from Okooko The Buzz: For something we rest our heads on every single night, many of us don’t give enough thought to our pillows. Just thinking about the accumulated dust, drool, face oil and dandruff over years of sleep is enough to make you run out to buy new pillows. Enter Okooko’s Heveya Plush Latex Pillow, an anti-mould, dust miteresistant pillow made from natural organic latex. The Pillow: The Heveya pillows are made with an open cell structure, with ventilation holes to ensure breathability. As a result, the pillows are extremely hygienic as sweat and moisture can’t accumulate, leading to mould or smells. If you’re prone to getting sweaty at night, it’ll also keep your head and neck cool and dry. Completely natural, they’re free from synthetic foam or glues, so you won’t be breathing in any nasties as you sleep. Finally, the natural latex maintains its shape, meaning that your pillow won’t flatten over time. The cover is removable, so you can take it off and wash it regularly to keep it in tip-top condition. The Verdict: Springy yet soft, this pillow is noticeably more natural-feeling compared to standard latex pillows, which can sometimes feel overly stiff and bouncy. As a front-sleeper, we sometimes feel suffocated when sleeping, but the Heveya is super breathable, making sleeping comfortable in any position. On a hot summer’s evening, it remained cool and comfortable too. We love it!

Cost: $250 per class (plus a free trial class), first-timers can purchase a two-week unlimited trial pass for $800.

Price: $1,100 (regular price $1,500). Buy two pillows and get a set of Lyocell bamboo pillowcases free!

SPLISH, SPLASH SPLOSH We did it. We went and bought an inflatable stand-up paddleboard. By Sarah Fung

APA Outdoor Shop 26

Watersports

S

tand-up paddleboarding is the perfect new hobby for these pandemic-stricken times. A solitary activity, stand-up paddleboarding combines core fitness, nature immersion, watersports and mindfulness for a practice that’s nourishing for the mind, body and spirit. But what to do if you’re at a beach where a rental option isn’t readily available? Thanks to technological advances, inflatable stand-up paddleboards are now much smaller, easier to store, convenient to carry and surprisingly quick to inflate. I should know. After weeks of hemming and hawing, my husband finally took the plunge and bought one online. At first I was deeply skeptical (and already resentful about a bulky piece of kit taking up precious space inside my tiny Hong Kong apartment). But after receiving “The Beast” (as we’ve named it) and taking it out for a maiden paddle around South Bay, I’ve grudgingly admitted it’s actually great. Here’s why:

1

IT INFLATES IN SECONDS How long do you think it’d take to manually inflate a 10-foot-6 inflatable stand-up paddleboard? If you guessed anything more than three minutes, you’d be wrong. Our paddleboard comes with a high-end hand pump with a built-in pressure gauge, and we were both amazed at how quickly it pumped up and, crucially, deflated.

2 3

IT’S SURPRISINGLY SMALL Inflatable stand-up paddleboards are designed to roll up into a backpack, about the size of a standard camping bag. The paddle collapses and neatly slots into the side of the bag, meaning it’s easy to sling on your back or throw into the back of a taxi.

IT HANDLES WELL My main concern was that an inflatable stand-up paddleboard would be less stable than a solid SUP. And while yes, I started off a little wobblier on my feet, I was used to the new feeling within a few minutes, and before too long I was as happy on it as I am on a hard board. You’re also less likely to damage an inflatable stand-up paddleboard as the inflatable rubber bounces off rocks, so you won’t suffer dents or nicks.

Thinking about buying an inflatable stand-up paddleboard? Here’s what to look out for. WHAT SIZE PADDLEBOARD SHOULD I GET? If your inflatable stand-up paddleboard will only be carrying one person at a time, a 10-foot-6 board will be plenty large enough. If you want to be able to stand and paddle with another person onboard, say kids or a dog, then a longer board will give you more stability.

WHATZSUP 27

P ho or tk oo gu rt a p h e r W

STABILITY OR SPEED A wider board is more stable. Boards for touring or racing are thinner (under 30 inches wide) which means they are faster and glide further with each stroke. However, this comes at the expense of stability. Most “all rounder” boards are 32-33 inches and some boards are designed for doing SUP yoga and will be even wider. The stiffness of the board is also an essential part of being stable on the water and this is most dependent on the pressure to which it can be pumped up to (look for at least 15psi) and the thickness of the board (5-6 inches). Anything less than this and you’ll feel like the drunk guy at a junk party trying to stand on a lilo.

HARD TO HANDLE? A smaller board is easier to turn and better if you want to surf waves. It is also of course lighter and easier to carry, but won’t be suitable for a heavier rider or trying to paddle longer distances.

BEAUTY NEWS

DRUNK IN LOVE

We’re always on the look-out for green, cruelty-free beauty brands to try out, and Drunk Elephant is the one buzzing around Hong Kong’s beauty circuit right now, and with good reason. All of their products are made without “the suspicious six”- essential oils, drying alcohols, silicons, chemical screens, fragrance/dyes and SLS - in an effort to help skin reset and repair itself from some of the harsh substances you’ve unknowingly been exposed to through big beauty brands. Up until recently, Drunk Elephant’s forte was skincare, but they’ve just launched their first line of body and hair care to much fanfare. We love the Cocomino Glossing Shampoo ($195) and Marula Cream Conditioner ($195), which use coconut-based surfactants to smooth and strengthen frizzy tresses - perfect for the impending HK summer! Check out the full product range at Sephora.

TRAVEL WELL with Kate Springer

A

s Hong Kong eases coronavirus-related restrictions, I am hopeful that we might come out the other side sooner rather than later, at least locally. But will we ever be able to flit around the world like we used to? Will I need to carry an “immunity” passport? When airlines dust off their fleets, will prices shoot through the roof? Like most eager explorers, questions are swirling around my head about how the virus will impact travel. I am no soothsayer, but I do have a few informed predictions for what the “new normal” might look like once we hit the road again: 1 Slower travel If you’re like me, darting to the airport 1.5 hours before takeoff, you might be in for a shock. It will undoubtedly take much longer to get from Point A to Point B in the short term due to heightened safety protocols, such as thermal screenings and mandatory COVID-19 tests. 2 Touchless tech Widespread touchless technologies may eventually speed things up. Expect to see an influx of auto-document scanning, biometric e-gates, digital IDs, thermographic cameras, virtual queuing, mobile room keys, voice-activated services, robot room services and much more. 3 Hardcore hygiene Understandably, travellers will be hyper-vigilant when it comes to hygiene. Many hotels, airlines and lounges are already adopting medicalgrade cleaning regiments. As one example, HKIA and the AsiaWorld-Expo have recently deployed full-body disinfectant machines, called CLeanTech stations, which are said to zap bacteria in 40 seconds.

34

4 COVID-free corridors Since destinations will reopen at staggered rates, we are likely to see the emergence of narrow “safe” travel corridors. So perhaps Hongkongers can visit New Zealand or Vietnam - places where the virus is under control - and vice-versa. If a vaccine becomes available, it’s also possible that some destinations will require a “health record,” certifying your immunity and health history. 5 Cheaper flights (initially) The good news, first: Once the virus clears, many airlines will offer excellent promotions to entice us to fly again. Now the bad: After that initial push, prices may spike due to industry consolidation, ongoing social distancing measures (read: empty seats), and fewer business travellers who usually account for premium ticket sales.

Travel

also exceptionally flexible and affordable. Whether you fly or drive, be sure to purchase carbon offsets. 9 Wild ideas While we were all cooped up, Mother Nature was thriving. And we’re all keen to reconnect with the great outdoors, whether that means scuba diving in Indonesia, hiking Mount Kinabalu in Malaysia, or forest bathing in Japan. 10 Backyard adventures As we look for safe and affordable destinations, it’s only natural to scan our own backyard for possibilities. Thankfully, we have plenty to do in Hong Kong, from visiting the oyster farms of Lau Fau Shan to hiking up to Lion Rock, lazing on the beaches of Sai Kung and camping on Lantau Island. 11 A renewed appreciation for travel We were living in the “golden age of travel” and didn’t even realise it! But you know what they say... absence makes the heart grow fonder. Though we may not be able to travel as frequently or easily in the future, each trip will feel more meaningful. 6 Remote retreats Is a crowded city atop your bucket list right now? I’d guess not. But a remote Airbnb where you can reconnect with loved ones, soak up some sunshine, practice yoga, meditate - and keep your distance sounds pretty appealing. 7 Wellness in focus I’d also argue that budget-friendly wellness retreats will be a hot commodity. Many people will need to invest in self-care in order to recover from the grief, anxiety and economic hardships caused by the outbreak. 8 Road trips rebound Not only do cars and campervans make us feel safely cocooned in our own personal space, but they are Kate Springer is an Asia travel expert who contributes to Conde Nast Traveler, Vogue, CNN, BBC Travel, Forbes Travel Guide, Fodor’s, Vice, and more. A MIDSUMMER NIGHT'S DREAM If your baby is continually kicking off a blanket, it might be time to invest in a sleep sack. A bit like a sleeping bag but with snaps at the shoulder to keep it secure, sleeping bags help to keep baby warm through the night, reducing nighttime wakings. They come in a variety of thicknesses, so how to know which type is the best for you? We go through the options:

SUMMER LIGHT (0.5 TOG OR LESS) Usually made from a single sheet of organic cotton or muslin, these sacks come without padding and are ideal for summer if your aircon is set to between 22.5 and 24.5 degrees. Team with a thin sleepsuit or onesie with sleeves so that baby is always covered with at least one layer of fabric. OUR PICK Malabar Baby’s lightweight “wearable blankets” are made from premium organic Indian ideal for sensitive and delicate skin. The bags come with a front zipper in addition to shoulder fastenings and feature beautiful prints. $325 from malabarbaby.com

ALL YEAR ROUND (1 TOG) Lightly padded sacks at this weight are usually the economical choice as they can work across all seasons. In winter, wrap your baby in a fleecy onesie for extra warmth, and set your aircon to 20-22.5 degrees in the summer. OUR PICK Hailing from Australia, the 1.0 tog Ergopouch is more slim-fitting than others on the market and comes in a super soft, lightly quilted jersey material that keeps baby perfectly snug. They have a gorgeous range of unisex prints and the larger size can fit babies from 8 to 24 months. $290 from petittippi.com

Malabar Baby

WINTER (ABOVE 2 TOG) Even in the height of summer some babies (and adults for that matter) prefer to sleep in an icy cold room and feel snug as a bug in a heavy duvet. If that sounds like your little one, opt for a Winter sleep sack and keep their arms warm with a long-sleeved sleepsuit. OUR PICK If you’re looking for something warmer, The Gro Company’s latest 2.5 tog quilted option comes with a super soft jersey cotton outer and lining for extra cosiness. There are poppers at the shoulders and a zip that goes around all sides, making it one of the easiest to get wriggly babies into.

PARENT PICKS

HOT WHEELS Take a wander into Central and you’d be hard pressed not to see a YOYO stroller. Its compact form, easy maneuverability and fold-up design has made it the obvious choice for city-dwelling mamas. But even all those convenient features came with some downsides. Thankfully, this super-lightweight stroller has undergone a bit of refurb and I had a chance to check it out with the latest generation, the YOYO². For example, the original YOYO+ didn’t come with wheel suspension, making for the occasional bumpy ride. The new version features individual suspension on all four wheels making it both smoother to push and better for your baby, especially on slightly uneven terrain. The original foam handlebar has also been upgraded to faux leather, which is stronger and more hygenic, and it now comes with a wrist strap you can use while pushing. Now for the best bit: it offers a higher weight limit (up to 22kg) meaning you can use it for even longer! Pro tip: Get the YOYO Bag too, It’s stylish, hooks on to the stroller and fits up to 10kg of stuff so you can get rid of your baby bag. Cost: $4,300. babyzen.com

CLASS REVIEW

FIT FOR KIDS If you’re looking for a fun way for kids to stay active this summer, newly opened fitness studio AndFit in Central is offering various camps to get children moving and sweating, as well as instilling some early lessons in the importance of physical exercise. AndFit Fit Camp includes circuit training, functional movement and partner work for kids and teens, using body weight exercises to improve strength and flexibility, as well as boosting mood and immune system function. This Costa Rican-themed gym keeps it lively and friendly, so it’s more accessible to little ones than your average hardcore weight room. An all-ages class is held every Monday-Thursday from 4-5pm, with plans to offer more camps once school has started up again. Cost: $330 per class, $2,500 for a pack of 10 classes. andfithk.com
