GREEN SLEEVES

The world’s largest sustainable fashion design competition, the Redress Design Award is celebrating its tenth anniversary this year, marking a decade of trying to dismantle fast fashion from the inside out. Originally launched by Hong Kong-based NGO Redress back in 2011, the global competition selects young designers to participate in an intensive competition cycle filled with sustainable theory and design, before selecting finalists who compete for a shot at creating a capsule collection for sustainable fashion brand, the R Collective. This year’s finalists include Hong Kong-based womenswear designer Grace Lant, as well as finalists from Sri Lanka, Vietnam and Korea. Keen to know more about this admirable effort to tackle waste-heavy fashion, or maybe just educate yourself on how to shop greener? Check out the Redress website and watch out for the winners, who will be announced in September! redressdesignaward.com

SWEAT AND FLOW

If you’re the type who needs a good sweat to feel like you’ve actually worked out, make sure to try Flowga, a new hot yoga studio located in Lan Kwai Fong. Hidden in plain sight in one of HK’s most well located (if a bit notorious) corners, this infrared yoga studio is unbelievably spacious, refreshingly minimalistic, and all about the practice. They offer 60-minute flow classes designed to get you working and sweating, and have eschewed mirrors entirely to reinforce a judgment-free ethos that can sometimes be missing in other hot yoga studios (like any still using the problematic Bikram method, for example). They also have a state-of-the-art sound system to keep the beats going while you flow - quite apropos given the location! Drop-in classes start from $300 with discounted class packs available. A two-week unlimited intro pass can also be purchased for $800 for first-timers. Unit F, 1/F, Winner Building, 37 D’Aguilar St., Central, 9129-1366, flowga-studio.com 10
