Concept
A BOOK ABOUT BOOKS. As several of my projects this year have been book covers, and as I feel heavily influenced and inspired by publishing design, I decided to focus my research publication on book covers. I looked into contemporary cover designers, as well as book covers that I loved from sev-
eral publishing houses and genres. I compiled my favourite works into this publication, titled Cover to Cover.

Research
I researched into contemporary publishing designers and publishers who I admire and whose work has influenced me in the last few years, selecting a range of each designer’s work to showcase. Influences include Atelier Dyakova, Peter Mendelsund, Jenny Volvovski,
Oliver Munday and Coralie Bickford Smith. I have also included a section at the back of the book that includes research into book covers from different genres, including food, art design and style and childrens books, as well as fiction and non fiction.

Research
As this is a book about books, I wanted the format of the publication to be simple so that it is identifiable as a proper book. I looked at hardcover books which I feel are more suited to design subjects such as mine, as they feel more authoratitive and stylish. As the format
is so simple, I did want to look into interesting ways to present the content inside to engage the viewer more, and so I have researched into the use of tip ins and more fluid editorial layouts that make the book seem more playful and fun.

The Development
Freya is the primary type face for Cover to Cover Prestige Elite is the secondary typeface used on the book’s tip ins
I decided to use both Freya and Prestige Elite in the publication as they both suit the genre of publication that I am creating, which, if it were to be published, would be featured in the art and style section. I have decided to use pastel colours that reflect my practice, as well
as being visually appealing and unobtrusive. Each of the layouts has been created to be different from the other, as finding the covers online meant I had to be careful of the image quality which affected their size in the book.

The Design
The book has been perfect bound because of the use of tip ins and the smaller page count of the book. The book has a blue hard cover so that it feels more stylish and less flimsy than a soft cover book. I also feel that as it is a book about books, a hard cover is more appropriate
as I am more influenced by hard cover books. The book cover was screen printed to add a more tactile finish to the publication.
