MYTHS AND RITES
SUNDAY, AUGUST 6 · 3 PM
THE BAKER-BAUM CONCERT HALL
Stravinsky’s Rite of Spring, a musical depiction of a pagan ritual, is considered one of the most groundbreaking and influential pieces in the history of music. It has inspired countless composers, induced a near-riot at its premiere, and even inspired Walt Disney to accompany the story of the planet’s creation and the extinction of the dinosaurs in his film Fantasia. In this concert we’ll hear it in the composers’ arrangement for two pianists, preceded by enchanting pieces inspired by Greek mythology.
