Jewel Changi Airport is a mixed-use retail complex, designed to combine the tropical landscape of Singapore with a luxury retail environment. The project is approximately 130,000 sqm and is constructed on the surface car park site fronting Terminal 1 at Changi Airport. The complex aims to offer a range of new facilities merging the needs of airport operations, indoor gardens and leisure attractions, retail offerings and hotel facilities, all under one roof. I was part of the lead ID Design team for Jewel. Being involved with this project since the initial tender documentation stage all the way to construction. During Construction, I was part of the shopdrawing and mockup coordination team coordinating between consultants, clients and contractors.

FLOORING
BENOY CHANGI, SINGAPORE
The brief was to introduce a luxury stone finish to the retail space within Jewel, while complementing the interior gardenscape with a rich grain character. The overall concept introduced by Benoy was to use the flooring to complement the strong elliptical geometry of Jewel and lead the circulation of users around the retail spaces. The main flooring body for Jewel was chosen to be Seperggiante, a warm Marble from Xiamen, China. A series of studies were carried out to study the relationship between the circulation of space, bonding pattern of the tiles and grain direction of the stone to complement the user flow along the retail area.
SERPEGGIANTE MARBLE
My role was the lead designer for the entire Jewel flooring design process all the way to mockup testing and construction drawings. I was also involved in coordinating with consultants and contractors on a series of drylays carried out to control the consistency of stone samples being received from the quarry.

COUNTERS
BENOY CHANGI, SINGAPORE
The brief of the counters was to be the functional touch points within Jewel, facilitating various Retail and Aviation activities. Each counter has a customized range of activities and has to work with its unique context. The main concept explored was the idea of pure geometric form in space. This tied the counters back to the strong sense of geometric relationships within Jewel. Throughout the design process, contextual considerations were crucial as cues from materiality, overall geometry, circulation and functions of space were key inputs. The level of detail within these counters was also crucial. As these counters approached a much more intimate scale, new factors such as section profiles, ergonomics of space and types of materials became a lot more relevant to the design.

The brief for the Level 5D Nursing Room was to both integrate the nature of the roof top gardenscape and be a sanctuary for mothers to nurse their infants. The delicate relationship between public and private space of the Nursing Room was crucial to making it work within this public context. The concept of alcoves was developed to provide shelter and privacy for the mothers to care for their infants. These alcoves were complemented with selective openings and a trellis layer to bring in nature and sunlight while creating screens for privacy. I was part of the design team from conception of the brief to the weekly presentations to the clients. I was in charge of 3D modelling, rendering and coordination with various consultants and contractors to produce the final construction package. L5D NURSING ROOM - LOCATION PLAN

This project was a conceptual design project for Hancorp Development in Hanoi. The brief was to develop a mixed used development of retail and high end apartments with an aesthetic that ties in with the Westlake context. The main concept for this project was to enhance the existing context by promoting circulation, views and green coverage of the site. A ribbon facade was introduced to develop a relationship between its mixed use functions of retail and residential. The semi-open retail spaces was to attract on ground flow from the main public transport routes and also introduce a mixture indoor and outdoor experience to suit the climate of Hanoi.

The brief for the Operation Theatre at National University Hospital Singapore was to expand an existing ward space to house 3 new Orthopedic Operating Theatres. Spatial planning within the existing site was of crucial importance, as circulation between both the front of house and back of house needed to work concurrently. Considerations on working clearances, operational workflows and clean zones were key design factors in this space.

THE YARRA FOOD HUB STUDIO: LOCATION:
YEAR 5, 2014 FLINDERS ST, MELBOURNE
This studio was to explore the potentials of Crowd Funding as a new means of democratizing social Architecture. The Yarra Food Hub sought to redevelop an underutilized space along the Flinders Street viaduct. The concept began with the idea of advancing the celebrated culinary culture of Melbourne towards a sustainabile future with the design of a food hub. The food hub was designed to encompass a range of communal activities from gardening to communal cooking. These range of activities would activate the space throughout the day, promoting a safer environment within the site. The communal concept of food was to foster a strong cultural exchange between users, and also linking it to the greater sustainable movement in Melbourne.
PROGRAM FLOWCHART
This design seeks to reestablish Melbourne city’s connection with the Yarra through the presence of the food hub. With the wider goal of developing an urban community which is united in advancing the sustainable food culture of the city.

YEAR 5, 2014 MELBOURNE UNI, MELBOURNE
The Timber Furniture Workshop seeks to provide a hands on experience to students in making a 1 to 1 scale piece of furniture. The brief was to design hallway piece which will be part of the transition space in the house. This furniture piece was to be a entry table and shoe rack piece for the entrance to my room. The design sought to explore an angular aesthetic through the use of timber frames, enabling me to minimize the wood material needed. Through the holistic process of design, purchasing, machining and the final assembly of furniture, we were able to explore furniture design in architectural space, work with the qualities of timber as a material and the working practice in the workshop. A focus of this workshop was to better understand the material properties of timber with its unique features of grain direction, expansive qualities and colouration; and to use its material properties in tandem with design.

GATEWAY TO WYNDHAM STUDIO: LOCATION:
YEAR 4, 2013 WYDNHAM, MELBOURNE
The brief for this project was to design a gateway project using the tools of Parametric design to fabricate a physical model. Wyndham City is seeking a design response for its Western Gateway Interchange with an installation that is both eye catching and exciting. The main idea for this project was to convey the concept of Transition between nature and the built environment. The main goal for this process was to replicate the fullscale on-site installation process through the use of digital fabrication. Parametric design enabled the precise control of design information to assist in the fabrication process of the large volume of joints. With layers of interlocking members, each member consists of a self supporting structure to form the overall physical model.
