LINCOLN MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY
VOLLEYBALL 2003
LINCOLN MEMORIAL COACHING STAFF HEAD COACH: Mike Smith Heading into his tenth season at the helm of the Lady Railsplitter program, Coach Smith hopes to have the program where he visioned it. The Lady Railsplitters during his tenure sport a 180-122 record including five straight 20+ win seasons. Smith’s teams have also made three trips to the Gulf South Conference Tournament and won several regular season tournaments along the way. The volleyball team has had good success in the classroom as well as on the court. There have been seven All-GSC selections and two Academic AllGSC selections during his tenure. The Lady Splitters also received a team academic award in 1999 from the American Volleyball Coaches Association. During the summer, Smith spends most of his time promoting volleyball in and around the area. Not only does he run his own highly successful camp at LMU, but he travels around the region and works at other camps as well. Originally from Manchester, Kentucky, Smith was a member of the baseball program while a student at Lincoln Memorial University. He received his Bachelors Degree in Athletic Training/Health in 1992 and his Masters Degree in Education Administration and Supervision in 1994. In addition to his coaching duties, Smith serves as the Athletic Business Manager for Lincoln Memorial University’s Turner Arena. He is married to the former Katy Stanley and they have one daughter, Mary Kathryn.
GRADUATE ASSISTANT: Daniel Skilins Daniel Skilins comes to LMU from Hermosa Beach, California, where he has played on the AVP Pro Beach Qualifier Tour and also coached AAU volleyball. He has also been an assistant coach for the Palos Verdes Peninsula High School boys volleyball team. Skilins has played and coached volleyball for over 14 years, starting during college when he started the Men’s Volleyball program at Monroe Community College in Rochester, NY, and acted as both player and coach. While there his teams played in the Club Nationals and several of his players went on to play Division I Men’s Volleyball. While coaching in Southern California, he coaches over 75 boys and girls aged 10-18 every season. At LMU, Skilins will be pursuing a Master’s in Education en route to a future goal of a Doctorate in Child Psychology. Another future goal is to become head coach of a Division I Women’s Volleyball program. In his spare time, he enjoys the beach, Golf, living spiritually and challenging himself to be the best he can be every day.
