2012-13 Season Review

NOTES ON THE 2012-13 SEASON

-The Railsplitters compiled a 25-6 mark and a 15-3 record in league play to earn their second South Atlantic Conference regular-season title in three seasons. LMU clinched at least a share of the regular-season laurels with a 63-60 win at Wingate before sealing the outright championship with a 82-65 win over Catawba in the regular-season finale. -On the offensive end, Lincoln Memorial was one of the most effective and efficient teams in the South Atlantic Conference. As a unit, the Railsplitters finished second in the league in points per game (76.5) and three-point field goal percentage (40.3%) while leading the way in overall field-goal percentage with a 49.2 percent clip. LMU crested the 90-point mark five times in the 2012-13 season. -The Railsplitters were equally dominant on the defensive end, leading the league by limiting their foes to 40.0 percent shooting. Lincoln Memorial also made their money on the glass, as they held a plus-8.2 rebounding margin to lead the South Atlantic Conference. -Lincoln Memorial was ranked in each of the NABC/Division II Coaches Polls released during the 2012-13 season, extending their South Atlantic Conference record streak to 42-straight weeks ranked. The Railsplitters opened the year at No. 18 and ascended as high as 10th in the nation on January 29. -For the second-consecutive year, the Railsplitters had four individuals honored with All-South Atlantic Conference honors. Jake Troyli and Vincent Bailey nabbed All-SAC First Team distinction while Lorenza Ross was named to the Second Team. Tim Pierce rounded out the Railsplittersâ&#x20AC;&#x2122; representation in the SAC awards with a selection to the SAC All-Freshman Team. 4

Lincoln Memorial Basketball -LMU displayed a balanced offensive output throughout the 2012-13 season with six different players averaging at least seven points. Vincent Bailey led the way with 13.5 points per, while Jake Troyli (12.6), Wally Jones (10.9) and Lorenza Ross (10.2) also posted double-digit averages. Cam Carden and Dustin Craig added 9.8 and 7.3 averages respectively.

2012-13 Season Review Schedule and Results

-Fronted by Jake Troyliâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s team-leading 38 blocks, the Railsplitters turned away 120 shots last season which ranks third all-time in school history, trailing the 2009-10 team that recorded 176 blocks. -The Railsplitters notched their fourth-straight 20-win season dating back to the 2009-10 campaign. For the third-consecutive year, the â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;Splitters topped the 25-win plateau. -LMU finished the season with a plus-10.5 scoring margin, averaging 76.5 points per contest while limiting their opponents to 66.0. Despite the lack of close games, the Railsplitters finished with an 8-2 mark in games decided by five or less points including a stretch of seven-straight wins in games such as that. The Railsplitters also finished with a perfect 3-0 mark in games that went into overtime. -LMU swept six of their 9 South Atlantic Conference opponents during the regular season (Carson-Newman, Lenoir-Rhyne, Tusculum, Wingate, Mars Hill, Brevard) and split the home-away doubleheader with the other three (Anderson, Catawba, Newberry). The Railsplitters finished 3-0 against Tusculum and Carson-Newman after wins in the 2013 Food Lion SAC Championship. -The Railsplitters were selected second in the South Atlantic Conference Preseason Coaches Poll behind Wingate. LMU earned two of the 10 first-place votes while the Bulldogs brought in five first-place tallies.

Railsplitters Looking To Continue SAC Reign

Who’s Back

The Railsplitters return seven players from the 2012-13 South Atlantic Conference regular-season championship squad including three of their topseven scorers. Headlined by the return of junior Lorenza Ross (Savannah, GA/Richmond Hill) and senior Chance Jones (Knoxville, TN/Austin-East), the Railsplitters boast an experienced group in the backcourt heading into the 2013-14 campaign. Ross was named to the All-South Atlantic Conference Second Team after compiling 10.2 points per game while dishing out a team-leading three assists a night. In 27 appearances, Ross recorded double-figures 16 times and dished out five or more assists on four occasions. Jones, meanwhile, churned out 6.2 points per game and led the team in steals with 25 total. The 6’2” guard came on strong late in the season with four double-digit scoring performances in the team’s last six games, including an 18-point showing against Barton in the NCAA Southeast Regional semifinal.

Who’s Back

At the head of the returning front court players, Vincent Bailey (Jennings, FL/Centennial), who earned 2012-13 All-South Atlantic Conference First Team honors, returns for his senior season at LMU after leading the team in scoring (13.5) and rebounding (7.4) last season. Bailey churned out eight doubledoubles last season and notched doublefigure scoring in 23 of his 28 appearances. He capped the season with 12-straight doubledigit performances. Bailey’s efforts inside will be aided by the growth of redshirt-junior Keenan Peterson (College Park, GA/Banneker). The 6’10” and 250 pound forward looks to build on the 201213 season in which he averaged 2.1 points and 2.4 rebounds per game in 16 appearances.

Along with that duo, the Railsplitters’ backcourt will be buoyed by the return of junior C.J. Wakeley (Alachua, FL/Santa Fe) and sophomore Tim Pierce (Albany, GA/Albany). Wakeley tallied 4.4 points, 1.8 assists and two rebounds a night before suffering a season-ending foot injury against Lenoir-Rhyne in January. Pierce, a SAC AllFreshman Team selection, notched double-figure scoring three times in route to a 4.7 average in his debut with the Railsplitters.

The Railsplitters’ roster boasts ten new players, with five of those returning for their second season in the program after red-shirting the 201213 campaign. In the back court, the Railsplitters will be buoyed by the debuts of Curtis Webb (Spartanburg, SC/ Dorman), Luquon Choice (Laurens, SC/Laurens), Ray Mobley (Atlanta, GA/South Gwinnett) and Hunter Spaw (Bean Station, TN/Grainger) after that group opted to redshirt last season to spend a year getting acclimated to Josh Schertz’s system. At 6’4” and 200 pounds, Webb looks to provide a physical defensive and athletic offensive presence. Webb was an All-State selection in 2011 and 2012 at Dorman High School. Luquon Choice will add another big-bodied guard to the fray, chalking in at 6’3” and 225 pounds. Choice was named to the All-State Team following his senior season at Laurens High School. Ray Mobley and Hunter Spaw can provide deep shooting threats in the Railsplitters’ rotation, as Mobley averaged 15 points a game his junior season while Spaw set the Grainger High School single-season record for three-pointers with 99 during his senior campaign.

2013-14 Season Outlook Fresh Faces

a 6’8”, 220 pound forward, was ranked as the fifthbest center in Ohio after churning out 9.9 points and 7.7 rebounds a night at Canton McKinley High. Maniacci, meanwhile, comes in at 6’9” and 200 pounds. The Union, Kentucky native was ranked among the top-five players in Northern Kentucky after notching 10.8 points, 9.7 rebounds and 3.9 blocks per game. Rounding out the recruiting class, the Railsplitters made two significant additions to the back court with Devin Hankins (Huntsville, AL/Sparkman) and Gerel Simmons (Accokeek, MD/Brevard College) electing to continue their careers at LMU. Hankins was an Alabama 6A All-State selection backed by his 15.5 points, 6.2 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 2.8 steals per game. Simmons also joins the program after spending last season with South Atlantic Conference rival Brevard College where he notched 14.3 points and 4.5 rebounds a night.

2013-14 Schedule

Paul Woodson (Cincinnati, OH/Aiken Technical) is the lone addition to the front court from the Railsplitters’ group of redshirts. Coming in at 6’9” and 185 pounds, Woodson is a long, lanky and versatile forward who collected 13.5 points, 13.9 rebounds and 1.8 blocks per game his senior year at Aiken Technical High. Along with those five redshirts, the Railsplitters welcome five entirely new players for the 2013-14 campaign. Three of those five players are expected to become staples in the post as Dawud FisherGrace (Bedford, OH/Bedford), Mike Mills (Canton, OH/Canton McKinley) and Louis Maniacci (Union, KY/Cooper) are set to fortify the Railsplitters’ front court. At 6’10” and 295 pounds, Fisher-Grace provides a mammoth presence in middle of the lane for Lincoln Memorial. Three Titles in Three Years

Over the past three seasons, the Railsplitters have established themselves as the most dominant team in the South Atlantic Conference, winning two SAC regularseason titles and one SAC tournament championship. The 2010-11 campaign saw Lincoln Memorial roll off a 27-3 record with a South Atlantic Conference record 16-2 mark in league play. The Railsplitters clinched the first SAC regular-season title on February 12, 2011 with an 84-72 win over Newberry. After earning the No. 1 seed for Food Lion SAC Championship, LMU claimed victories over Carson-Newman, Tusculum and Wingate over a four-day stretch to capture the 2011 SAC Championship. Two seasons later, the Railsplitters returned to the top of the South Atlantic Conference regular-season standings after running off a 15-3 mark in league play. LMU ensured at least a share of the regular-season championship with a 63-60 victory at Wingate on February 27th. Three days later, the Railsplitters grabbed the outright championship by throttling Catawba, 82-65, in the regular-season finale at Tex Turner Arena.

Noteworthy Acheivements

-Lead the South Atlantic Conference in overall wins since the 2008-09 season with 112 wins. The Railsplitters lead Anderson by 21 wins over that stretch. -Lead the South Atlantic Conference in overall winning percentage (74.6%) and conference winning percentage (70.1%) since the 200809 season. -Posted the second-highest win total in a single season in South Atlantic Conference history with 27 during the 2010-11 campaign. The Railsplitters also rolled off the most consecutive wins in SAC history with 22 to open the 2010-11 season. -Became the first team in South Atlantic Conference to earn the No.1 national ranking on January 10, 2012 after opening the season with a 14-0 mark. -LMU enters the 2013-14 season riding a South Atlantic Conference record streak of 42-consecutive weeks ranked in the NABC/ Division II Coaches Poll. The Tex Turner Arena has been the home of the Railsplitters since 1991. Since then, it has become known as one of the top basketball facilities at the Division II level. The arena replaced the Mary E. Mars Gymnasium, which had been the home of LMU basketball since 1948. The 87,000 square foot complex seats 5,009 for basketball contests, with another 1,000 portable seats available for other events. The distance from the playing floor to the roof is 40 feet, the equivalent of a two-story building. The arena is 230 feet (east to west) and 282 feet (north to south). It contains over 81,866 square feet of floor space, and over 4 million cubic feet of space. The arena was named after former LMU football and basketball standout B. Frank “Tex” Turner, who donated the funds for its construction. Work on the multi-million dollar facility began on May 7, 1988 and on Feb. 2, 1991 the Railsplitters held their first contest in the facility when they hosted the University of Alabama-Huntsville in a doubleheader. The men lost 85-69. Since Josh Schertz’s arrival in 2008, the Railsplitters have been nearly unbeatable in Tex Turner Arena. On January 12, 2013, the Railsplitters hosted South Atlantic Conference foe Anderson, and the CBS Sports Network selected that contest to broadcast as a part of their 2013 NCAA Division II Basketball Game of the Week schedule, which featured a total of nine Division II men’s and women’s games. With more than 3,500 fans in attendance inside of Tex Turner Arena, the reach of the CBS Sports Network provided the Lincoln Memorial University men’s basketball program with a platform into the national spotlight. The Railsplitters contest against the Trojans was available to 99 million homes nationwide.

First Class Facilities Jerry Burnette Locker Room Suite

Renovated and dedicated in 2011, the Jerry Burnette Locker Room Suite features 19 wood lockers, showers, a 60-inch flat scree television with surround sound and cable, a washer and dryer, wireless internet access and a training room entrance. Players have 24/7 locker room access via the keyless entry system.

Steven Day-Doug Barnard Media Room

Opened in 2011, the Steven Day-Doug Barnard Media Room offers theater-style seating for 24 athletes with a 100-inch projector screen. The media room is used primarily for film study and gametape review.

Luxurious Living

Students are treated to apartment living at Lincoln Memorial, and each apartment features three bedrooms, a fully-furnished living room, a full-size washer and dryer and a full-size kitchen. Each individual room (housed by one student) is fully-furnished with a full bathroom and a walk-in closet.

First Class Facilities Alternative Dining

Along with the dining hall, which offers three nutritional meals per day, LMU Dining Services provide alternate options with Wow Cafe and The Campus Grounds. Wow Cafe is open for lunch and dinner on the second floor of the Student Center, featuring an American grill and wingery. The Campus Grounds is a cafe that offers a variety of hot and cold beverages as well as smaller meals and deserts.

Appolo Fitness and Training Center

Located in the lower concourse of Tex Turner Arena, the Appolo Fitness and Training Center is a modern facility complete with the latest equipment and one of the most dedicated health care teams in the Southeast. Led by Head Athletic Trainer Donald Grigsby, the athletic training staff provide studentathletes with the best available care for his or her injuries. Along with the A.T. staff, a wide array of health care providers from LMUâ&#x20AC;&#x2122;s DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine are available at all times.

LMU Weight Room

Renovated prior to the start of the 2013-14 academic year, the LMU Weight Room features four Olympic squat racks, dumbbells ranging from five to 120 pounds, free weights and a plethora of strength building equipment.

Success After LMU

A 2013 graduate of Lincoln Memorial University, Jake Troyli logged 1,536 minutes in his twoyear stay with the Railsplitters, compiling 700 points, 314 rebounds and 52 blocks over that span. Troyli was named All-South Atlantic Conference First Team at the completion of the 201213 regular season. The Massachusetts native was recently profiled as an emerging artist by the studio@620, as his original oil paintings and hand drawn pen and ink illustrations have garnered praise in the art community.

During his three-year run with the Railsplitters, D’Mario Curry established himself as one of the most dominant players in school history. The Detroit, Michigan native registered 1,509 points (15th all-time), 753 rebounds (5th all-time) and 195 blocked shots (1st all-time). Curry was a three-time All-SAC First Team selection (‘09, ‘10, ‘11). Following his time with LMU, Curry signed professionally to play overseas. In 2012-13, D’Mario appeared in 32 games, tallying 8.6 points per game, for Shinshu BW in Japan. Prior to that, Curry played the 2011-12 campaign with Aarhus BF in Denmark. 24

Success After LMU

A centerpiece of the Railsplitter revival from 2009-2013, Dustin Craig appeared in 86 games during his four-year career, logging 411 points, 313 rebounds, 56 blocks and 32 steals. The Knoxville, Tennessee native represented the ideal student-athlete, as he was awarded the B. Frank Turner Award at the 2012 LMU Athletic Banquet, which is presented to the athlete best exemplifying the combination of athletic performance, academic success and community service. The 2013 graduate of Lincoln Memorial is currently pursuing his masters degree in business.

A pivotal piece of a dominant four-year run for the Railsplitters, Wally Jones recorded 714 points, 142 assists, 79 steals and 123 three pointers while appearing in 103 career games. During his stead at Santa Fe High School, Wakeley accrued a significant number of accolades, highlighted by him being named First Team All-State after leading his team to a 19-10 mark. Along with that, he was named the Gainesville Sun Player of the Year, as well as the Florida Athletic Coaches Association Class 3A North Central Player of the Year in his junior and senior seasons. He finished his senior campaign with a scoring average of 29 per game and an assist average of 3.8 per game. Wakeley added 2.4 steals per game and scored 40+ points on three separate occasions. He ranked among the scoring leaders throughout the entire state of Florida. CJ completed his career with over 1,900 points at Santa Fe High School.

At the conclusion of his senior season, Choice represented South Carolina in the Carolinas All-Star Basketball Classic, where he tallied ten points against top-level talent.

Curtis Webb concluded his prep career at Dorman High School with a vast number of honors to his credit, including Spartanburg Herald Player of the Year in 2012. That same year, Webb was crowned as the Region Player of the Year. Webb was an All-State selection in 2011 and made the jump to First Team All-State in 2012. For his career, he tallied better than 1,100 points while being voted team MVP in 2011 and 2012. Webb also competed in the North-South All-Star Game and the FCA All-Star Game.

Devin Hankins was an Alabama 6A All-State selection after leading his team to a runner-up finish in the state tournament. Hankins paced the Sparkman Senators throughout his senior season, averaging 15.5 points, 6.2 rebounds, 5.1 assists and 2.8 steals per game while shooting 43.2% from three-point range for Coach James Coggins. At the conclusion of his junior and senior seasons, Hankins was named to the Huntsville Times All-Tournament Team and All-Area Team. In his senior season, he was selected to the Northwest Regional All-Tournament Team, earned Northwest Regional MVP laurels, and was named First Team Huntsville Times Elite Team.

He was ranked among the top 5 players in Northern Kentucky. In his career at Cooper, Maniacci started 49 games, scored 619 points, grabbed 490 rebounds, shot 42% from the field, and blocked 161 shots. Maniacci was named to the NKAC All-Conference First Team and honored as the NKAC Defensive Player of the Year.

2012-13: Gerel Simmons, a transfer from Brevard College, appeared in 26 games and started 17 of those contests for the Tornados during the 2012-13 season. While averaging 30.2 minutes a game, he ranked second on the team in scoring and rebounds, putting up 14.3 points per game and grabbing 4.5 rebounds a night as a sophomore for Brevard. Simmons finished second in the South Atlantic Conference in three-point percentage, knocking down 57 of his 120 attempts (47.5%). The Accokeek, Maryland native made 48.1% of his shots from the field and 84.7% of his free throws on the season. Gerel will have to sit out the 2013-14 season due to transfer rules and will be eligible for the 2014-2015 season.

Simmons starred at North Point High School under the direction of Coach Jimmy Ball. Simmons was a member of the 4A All-State Team and he played in the Maryland State All-Star Game in the 2010-11 season. Simmons was also tagged as an All-Conference selection and he was named a captain of the team prior to his senior season.

Simmons also competed on his prep cross country team, playing a leading role in his squad capturing the 2011 SMAC Cross Country Championship title. Off the court, he was awarded the four-year AFJROTC Award and was the acting Senior Master Sergeant when he graduated. He is the son of Gary and Sintrel Simmons.

Since arriving in Harrogate, Tennessee as the 17th head coach of the Lincoln Memorial University basketball program in 2008, Josh Schertz has engineered one of the more remarkable turnarounds in college basketball history. In his five seasons with the Railsplitters, Schertz has posted a 112-38 (74.7 winning percentage) record, won two South Atlantic Conference regular season titles and one league tournament championship. He has led LMU to four-consecutive 20-win seasons, three-consecutive NCAA Tournament appearances, nine postseason wins, and enters the 2013-14 season with a current South Atlantic record of 42-consecutive weeks ranked in the NABC Division II national rankings. The 20-win seasons, SAC regular season and tournament championships, as well as the postseason wins, NCAA Tournament appearances and national rankings are all first time occurrences for Lincoln Memorial basketball. In the five seasons prior to his arrival, Lincoln Memorial had won just 39 games overall, and had posted seven winning seasons all-time at the Division II level. A two-time finalist for National Division II Coach of the Year (2011, 2013), Schertz has helped shape the Railsplitter basketball program into a national power. Under Schertz, Lincoln Memorial has posted the best five-year (112-38; 74.7%), four-year (98-24; 80.3%), three-year (78-15; 83.8%), and two-year (51-12; 81.0%) records in the Southeast Region. Lincoln Memorial’s run to the South Atlantic Conference regular season championship in 201213 was quite an accomplishment after losing two first-team all-conference selections and three starters from LMU’s 26-6 team of 2011-12. In 201213, LMU won its third South Atlantic Conference title in the last three seasons and appeared in the conference tournament championship game for the second time in three years. In 2012-13, LMU advanced to its third-consecutive NCAA Tournament and advanced to the Southeast Regional semifinals for the second-consecutive year. Additionally, LMU was nationally ranked all 15 weeks of the regular season for the second-straight year. In 2011-12, Lincoln Memorial graduated its top two players but didn’t miss a beat as they became the first team in South Atlantic Conference history to be ranked #1 nationally. Lincoln Memorial went 14-4 in conference play, earned its second-straight NCAA Tournament bid and won its first NCAA Tournament game, advancing to the regional semifinals with a win over King University. In 2010-11, LMU had a record setting season, going 27-3 and ripping off a school and conference record 22-game winning streak. LMU also won its first ever South Atlantic Conference regular season and tournament championships and qualified for the NCAA Tournament for the first time in school history. For his efforts, Schertz was named South Atlantic Conference Coach of the Year and was a finalist for Division II National Coach of the Year. On December 7, 2010, Lincoln Memorial broke into the NABC/Division II national polls for the first time in school history. In 2009-10, Lincoln Memorial posted its first 20-win season at the Division II level and recorded its first ever postseason win. Lincoln Memorial was also regionally ranked for the first time during the 200910 season.

Prior to his arrival in Harrogate, Schertz spent 10 seasons as an assistant/associate head coach at four different institutions. He was the Associate Head Coach at High Point University for five seasons as the Panthers went 87-66 and set school records for wins, conference wins, road wins, and highest RPI ranking. During his tenure as recruiting coordinator, two players, Danny Gathings (2004) and Arizona Reid (2007,2008) earned Big South Player of the Year honors a total of three times. While at High Point, Schertz signed some of the best players in school history including 2,000 point scorers Arizona Reid and Nick Barbour along with all-time assist leader Mike Jefferson and all-time shot block leader Cruz Daniels. Schertz came to High Point from Queens University (NC) where he spent two seasons as the associate head coach. The Royals went 49-14 including a school record 29 wins in 2002-03 when they advanced to the Final Four for the only time in school history. While in Charlotte Schertz landed Spencer Ross who was named 2004 National Division II Player of the Year along with 2003 CVAC Freshman of the Year Kendrick Harris. Before joining Queens, Schertz spent two years at Lynn University (FL) serving as the Knights recruiting coordinator. While at Lynn, the Fighting Knights went 37-18, but the five-man recruiting class he signed in 2001 became his lasting legacy as they went on to lead Lynn to a school record 29 wins and a Final Four appearance in 2005. While at Lynn, Schertz signed two players named Sunshine State Conference Freshman of the Year as well as four players who earned AllConference honors. Schertz began his career as an assistant coach at his alma mater Florida Atlantic University, where he spent one season working under Kevin Billerman. Schertz, a 2000 graduate of Florida Atlantic University, also has a masters in education from Lynn University. He and his wife Natalia have two sons: Jordan and Jaden. They reside in Harrogate, TN.

Assistant Coach Cameron Whicker High Point ‘11 Entering 3rd Season at Lincoln Memorial Bio

Cameron Whicker enters his third season with the Lincoln Memorial University men’s basketball program and second as an assistant coach after the Railsplitters finished the 2012-13 campaign with a 25-6 record that included a South Atlantic Conference regular-season championship and an appearance in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional. Whicker joined as a full-time assistant prior to the 2011-12 season after spending one season as the graduate assistant coach. In his first season as an assistant, Whicker played a pivotal roll in the Railsplitters’ 26-6 season that included yet another appearance in the NCAA Southeast Regional. In his first year with LMU, Whicker’s role in the program included scouting, film exchange, academics and player development. Whicker looks to continue to build on his success this season, as he embraces his new role and expands his responsibilities in his second season as a full-time member of the coaching staff. “Cam possesses the three things I look for in hiring people: Energy, Intelligence, and Character. He enhanced our staff in a variety of ways last year, and will tackle this expanded role with the focus and commitment necessary to help us get better,” said Head Coach Josh Schertz. A 2011 graduate of High Point University, Whicker earned a degree in Sports Management and served in various capacities with the HPU Men’s Basketball Team which included manager, student assistant coach and video coordinator. In his senior year at HPU, Cameron was a color analyst for the Big South Conference online broadcasts of men’s basketball games. Whicker’s passion for coaching basketball began at an early age when he coached in local recreational leagues and assisted with area AAU teams throughout high school. Whicker also served as a student assistant coach for Hopewell High School which made it to the elite eight in the North Carolina 4-A State Tournament in 2006. Cameron is a native of Huntersville, North Carolina and is a 2007 graduate of Hopewell High School.

Assistant Coach Keegan Bell Tennessee-Chattanooga ‘11 Entering 1st Season at Lincoln Memorial Bio

Keegan Bell is entering his first season as the assistant men’s basketball coach at Lincoln Memorial University. Bell was selected among a strong field of candidates prior to the 2013-14 season to fill the vacancy left by Chris Cottrell, who took on the head coaching job at Davis & Elkins College after spending the last five seasons with the Railsplitters. Keegan Bell comes to the Railsplitters boasting a strong resume with a plethora of playing and coaching experience against high-level competition. Prior to joining the LMU coaching staff, Bell served one year as the assistant basketball coach at the University of Alabama-Huntsville, a national powerhouse in the NCAA Division II. In his only season with the Chargers, UAH compiled a 25-6 mark, reaching the finals of the 2013 NCAA Division II South Regional. Among his many duties while at Alabama-Huntsville, Bell supervised offseason conditioning, assisted with scouting and weightlifting workouts, worked on player development and played a primary role in on-campus and off-campus recruiting. Before becoming a full-time assistant at Alabama-Huntsville, Bell worked as a gym manager at the UAH Men’s Basketball Camps from 2008-2012. Bell also assisted with team camp schedules, managed the camp money and facility, and assisted player’s and coach’s schedules as a part of his duties. Bell’s playing career has only recently ended, as he played professionally in Iceland from September to December of 2012. While in Iceland, Bell was an assistant coach for a KR Youth Team, where he assisted with nutrition and weight development, directed practices and worked primarily with the guards. After graduating Hazel Green High School (Hazel Green, AL), Keegan made his way to Vanderbilt University in the fall of 2007 to continue his education and his playing career. Following a one-year stay with the Commodores, Bell transferred to the University of Tennessee-Chattanooga to complete his career. With the Mocs, Bell left an indelible mark, leaving the program as the all-time leader in assists. Bell capped his career with 538 total assists, shattering the previous mark by 124. While at UTC, Bell earned a B.A. in Business with a specialization in Government and Non-profit Management.

Grad. Assistant Coach Tony Martin Lincoln Memorial â&#x20AC;&#x2DC;12 Entering 2nd Season at Lincoln Memorial Bio

Martin is entering his second season as the graduate assistant after a four-year career at Lincoln Memorial University, where he laid the foundation for one of the biggest turnarounds in Division II basketball. Tony, a native of Cincinatti, Ohio, helped transcend a program that won only eight games prior to his arrival into a national powerhouse, as the Railsplitters compiled a 87-32 mark in his four seasons. During his last two seasons in which Martin served as a captain, Lincoln Memorial notched a two-year stretch of 53-9. In four years, LMU asserted one of the top homecourt advantages in the country with a 54-7 record within Tex Turner Arena. For his career, Tony finished with 226 rebounds, 196 points, 25 steals and a .496 field-goal percentage. He ranks 14th all-time at Lincoln Memorial University in games played with 105. In his first season as a graduate assistant coach, Martin helped guide the Railsplitters to a 25-6 overall record, a South Atlantic Conference regular-season title and an appearance in the NCAA Division II Southeast Regional.

Volunteer Assistant Davis Fisher North Carolina ‘13 Entering 1st Season at Lincoln Memorial Bio

Davis Fisher brings a wealth of knowledge with him as he begins his first season on staff for the Lincoln Memorial University Men’s Basketball Program after graduating from University of North Carolina in May. He will serve as a volunteer/graduate assistant for the Railsplitters for the 2013-2014 season while looking to build upon the incredible success that they have had over the past few years. Some of his primary responsibilities will be handling the program’s film exchange, equipment management, recruiting, scouting, on-court coaching and player development, and assisting with the team’s academic progress. While at UNC, Fisher was a student manager for the Men’s Basketball Program for three seasons after transferring from High Point University. During that three-year span, the Tar Heels won the regular season conference championship in back-to-back seasons (2011-2012 and 2012-2013) and reached the Elite 8 of the NCAA tournament in those same seasons. During his time as a manager, his primary responsibilities included assisting the team with practice, games, travel, and other events such as camps, clinics, and community outreach. Fisher was a part of Carolina teams that saw five players drafted in the 2012 and 2013 NBA drafts (Harrison Barnes, Kendall Marshall, John Henson, Tyler Zeller and Reggie Bullock). Fisher served in the same capacity during his two years at High Point University while also having a more expanded role within the men’s basketball program. Some of his responsibilities included team travel, practice duties, equipment management, video scouting and editing, and various administrative responsibilities. He also helped set up, organize, work, and coach the individual and team summer camps for HPU. Fisher has worked numerous basketball camps throughout his career including North Carolina, Davidson, Elon, High Point, and various high school camps. He also helped coach the 17U Cary Cougars during the summer of 2011. 53

Lincoln Memorial University was founded in 1897 as a living memorial to Abraham Lincoln and his philosophy and ideals. Its inception dates from an occasion in the fall of 1863 when the President was meeting with General Oliver Otis Howard to discuss military operations in and around the Cumberland Gap and East Tennessee area. The President expressed his appreciation for the loyalty that the people of the region had shown to the Union during this time of Civil War. Pointing to the area on the map, Mr. Lincoln said, “General Howard, if you come out of all this horror and misery alive, and I hope that you may, I want you to do something for these people who have been shut out from the world all these years. If I live, I will do all I can to aid you and between us we may do them the justice they deserve. Please remember, and if God is good to us we may be able to speak of it later!” Mr. Lincoln did not live to see his dream fulfilled, but O.O. Howard (who also was a founder of Howard University) never forgot those words. In 1895, he traveled to the Cumberland Gap area to address a small academy that was operated by a Congregational minister, the Rev. A.A. Myers, and his wife Ellen. While he was there, the General remembered Lincoln’s request and joined with the Myers and several prominent friends to lay the groundwork for a university honoring the slain President. It was to be an institution whose mission and principles would exemplify the life of Abraham Lincoln. The philosophy articulated by these founders as a guide for University programs and curriculum was based on the following principles which were exemplified in the life of Abraham Lincoln: individual liberty; the privileges and responsibilities of the American government; love and respect for the fellow people; personal initiative, individual effort; unselfish leadership; an appreciation for the common people; free enterprise; and belief in a personal God. Now in its 116th year of operation, LMU has grown into a progressive university, offering over 30 majors. LMU’s Fall 2013 enrollment was 3,952 students at the main campus and twelve extended learning campus sites. The main campus is also home to the Abraham Lincoln Library and Museum, which houses one of the largest Lincoln collections in the country.

This guide is designed to assist the media with their coverage of Lincoln Memorial University men’s basketball. It is published primarily as a source of information for reporters representing newspapers, television and radio stations, wire services and magazines. If you need information that you cannot find in this guide, please contact the Athletic Media Relations Office at (423) 869-6376. We are always ready to serve you.

Requests for working media credentials should be directed to Scott Erland with the LMU Athletic Media Relations Department. Credentials can be acquired at Tex Turner Arena, which is located in the back of the Lincoln Memorial University campus.

PHOTOGRAPHER CREDENTIALS

Credentials will be issued only to accredited photographers or those individuals on special assignment. Please check with Scott Erland for instructions on allowed areas of access. No photographers are allowed on the playing floor.

STATISTICAL SERVICES

Statistics are provided using the Automated Scorebook (STAT CREW) program. Monitors can be placed on the press row to provide immediate access to statistics. Hard copies of final stats will be provided following each contest. Other items, such as statistics, are available in the game programs with more detailed statistics being available upon request from accredited parties. Game-by-game statistics will be e-mailed back to the sports information office of visiting teams at the conclusion of the day, if requested. If no sports information representative is traveling with the opposing team, arrangements should be made in advance for additional services to be provided in their absence.

RADIO BROADCASTS

Tex Turner Arena is equipped with wireless internet and dedicated internet lines. In order to access these lines, teams interested in doing a radio broadcast of a particular game need to inform the LMU Athletic Media Relations office in writing at their earliest convenience and no later than five days prior to the contest.
