RAILSPLITTER ROUNDUP -Two Decades of ExcellenceToday opens the 20th season of women’s soccer at LMU. Over those years the program has compiled a 206-127-22 record. -Season-Opening DominanceHeading into today, the Lady Railsplitters have won nine-straight season openers. In those nine contests, Lincoln Memorial has outscored their opponents by a commanding 38-3 margin. Their last season-opening defeat fell on August 30, 2003 with a 3-1 loss to Tennessee Wesleyan. -Welcome BackThe Lady Railsplitters return 19 letter winners from the 2012 squad. On offense, the Lady Railsplitters welcome back all ten players who recorded at least one score last season, paced by Savannah Pitt (Gallatin, TN) and Josefin Hedstrom (Burtrask, Sweden). The defense, which surrendered only 1.21 goals per game last season, returns five players who started at least nine games in the back row in 2012. That group is headlined by Preseason All-SAC First Team selection Sam Adams (Harwood, MD). -Taking to the RoadAfter opening the season at the LMU Soccer Complex against Asbury, the Lady Railsplitters hit the road for three-straight matches outside of Harrogate. Lincoln Memorial is set to travel to nonconference foes Alabama-Huntsville (Sept. 8) and North Georgia (Sept. 11) before opening the South Atlantic Conference slate at Coker on September 14. -Feeling at HomeOver the past two seasons, the Lady Railsplitters have compiled a 15-15-4 overall mark. However, over that same span, the Lady Railsplitters have tallied a 9-5-2 ledger at the LMU Soccer Complex. Against nonconference opponents, Lincoln Memorial holds a 12-3-1 record at home over the last four seasons. -Youth and ExperienceDespite returning all but one player from last year’s squad, the Lady Railsplitters boast a youth-laden roster. Lincoln Memorial’s roster is comprised of two seniors, eight juniors, ten sophomores and five freshmen.

Helio D’Anna - HEAD COACH, ELEVENTH SEASON Coach Helio D’Anna, or Coach “L” (as he is known throughout the soccer world), begins his eleventh season as head men’s and women’s soccer coach. Under his leadership, the men have accumulated four conference titles and two trips to the NCAA national tournament. The women have also won four conference titles and made three trips to the NCAA national tournament. In 2007, the LMU men’s soccer program won the South Atlantic Conference regular season and tournament titles, and won for the second time in the row the Appalachian Region title, on the way to back-to-back appearances in the NCAA Division II Final Four. The 2007 season run at the national title ended in the championship match where LMU lost 1-0 with less than two minutes on the clock. The Railsplitters also have clinched conference titles in 2004 and 2005. The LMU women’s soccer team won the South Atlantic Conference regular season and tournament titles in 2007 and advanced to the quarterfinal round match of the NCAA Southeast Regional Tournament. In 2004 and 2005, they also advanced to nationals, including a deep trip to quarter finals of the national tournament. The women also won conference titles in 2004 and 2005. D’Anna was named the 2004 NCAA South Region Coach of the Year with the women and the 2007 Appalachian Region Coach of the Year with the men. A product of São Paulo, Brazil, D’Anna served as head men’s soccer coach for nearby Union College before coming to the Lincoln Memorial University program. D’Anna guided Union to four Mid-South Conference Championships and was named Mid- South Conference Coach of the Year each of those seasons. Coach D’Anna’s 1999 and 2001 teams earned trips to the NAIA Region XI Championship match, and the 2001 team finished the season ranked No. 3 in the country. D’Anna majored in physical education at UniCamp-Brazil, and has a masters degree in physical education from Union College, KY. He coached and played at different soccer clubs in Brazil as well as the American High School of Campinas. He now possesses an overall winning record of 321-177-38 in his collegiate career as a head coach (219-111-25 with the men and 102-66-13 with the women). In percentage of wins, D’Anna is the 22nd winningest active coach in the NCAA II with the men and 31st with the women. He also ranks 26th in the nation in number of victories with the men. He and his wife Debbie reside in Morristown, TN.
