THIS IS LINCOLN MEMORIAL UNIVERSITY Lincoln Memorial University was founded in 1897 as a living memorial to Abraham Lincoln and his philosophy and ideals. Its inception dates from an occasion in the fall of 1863 when the President was meeting with General Oliver Otis Howard to discuss military operations in and around the Cumberland Gap and East Tennessee area. The President expressed his appreciation for the loyalty that the people of the region had shown to the Union during this time of Civil War. Pointing to the area on the map, Mr. Lincoln said, “General Howard, if you come out of all this horror and misery alive, and I hope that you may, I want you to do something for these people who have been shut out from the world all these years. If I live, I will do all I can to aid you and between us we may do them the justice they deserve. Please remember, and if God is good to us we may be able to speak of it later!” Mr. Lincoln did not live to see his dream fulfilled, but O.O. Howard (who also was a founder of Howard University) never forgot those words. In 1895, he traveled to the Cumberland Gap area to address a small academy that was operated by a Congregational minister, the Rev. A.A. Myers, and his wife Ellen. While he was there, the General remembered Lincoln’s request and joined with the Myers and several prominent friends to lay the groundwork for a university honoring the slain President. It was to be an institution whose mission and principles would exemplify the life of Abraham Lincoln. The philosophy articulated by these founders as a guide for University programs and curriculum was based on the following principles which were exemplified in the life of Abraham Lincoln: individual liberty; the privileges and responsibilities of the American government; love and respect for the fellow people; personal initiative, individual effort; unselfish leadership; an appreciation for the common people; free enterprise; and belief in a personal God. Now in its 115th year of operation, LMU has grown into a progressive university, offering over 30 majors. LMU’s Fall 2011 enrollment was 4,550 students and there were 153 faculty members at the main campus and twelve extended learning campus sites. The main campus is also home to the Abraham Lincoln Library and Museum, which houses one of the largest Lincoln collections in the country.

PRESIDENT / ATHLETIC DIRECTOR B. James Dawson, Ed.D. President
Roger Vannoy Athletics Director
A native Hoosier, Dawson earned a BA and a MA at the University of Evansville in Evansville, Ind., and began his academic career as an admissions counselor at his alma mater. While still working at the University of Evansville, he received his doctorate in administration of higher education from Indiana University. During his tenure at the University of Evansville, Dawson held a variety of administrative positions culminating with a vice president post. In 1988 he moved on to Fort Hays State University where he served as the vice president for student and institution development. He was responsible for development, alumni relations, public relations and governmental relations at the institution, which is part of the Kansas Regents system. Dawson gained national recognition for his contributions to the field of alcohol and drug abuse prevention. As a member of the Presidents Leadership Group, he joined five other college and university presidents in a concerted effort to involve the leadership of institutions of higher education in the fight against irresponsible and illegal use of drugs and alcohol. He also serves on the national board for BACCHUS and Gamma. The BACCHUS Network is a university and community based network focusing on comprehensive health and safety initiatives. Dawson served as president of Coker College in Hartsville, S.C. from 2002 until July 2009. With Dawson at the helm, Coker College successfully completed a $23 million capital campaign. This fundraising effort enabled the college to make significant investments in the campus community, including the construction of the 40,000-square foot, $6.5 million Charles W. and Joan S. Coker Library-Information Technology Center. Several millions of dollars also went to improving academic programs, residence halls and campus landscaping. Coker College also experienced considerable enrollment growth during Dawson’s presidency. Dawson served his first presidency at Tennessee Wesleyan College in Athens, Tenn., where he served from 1995 until 2002.
Vannoy became Lincoln Memorial University’s Athletic Director in the Spring of 2007. During that time, he has guided LMU’s transition from the Gulf South Conference to the South Atlantic Conference and the department’s development into one of the premier Division II programs in the nation. A native of Harrogate, Tennessee, Vannoy graduated from Lincoln Memorial in 1975. He immediately went into coaching the girls’ varsity team at Powell Valley High School, his alma mater. From 1975-82 he compiled a 133-58 record as head coach of the Lady Indians and won several district titles. In 1982, he took over the helm of a LMU women’s basketball program that had compiled a 52-50 record over the past four seasons. By his third season, the team posted their first of seven consecutive 20-win seasons. During his 25 years he would compile a 463-246 record, which ranks him in the top 25 Division II coaches in total victories. Seven of his teams were conference champions and one would boast the highest GPA amongst NCAA women’s basketball teams that season. Twelve of his 25 teams won at least 20 games in a season, and he coached 21 LMU hall of famers, 16 all-conference performers and 5 All-Americans. Vannoy’s retirment from the coaching ranks following the 2006-07 season aforded him the opportunity to take over as Lincoln Memorial University’s athletics director and to continue to serve his alma mater. Vannoy and his wife Pam reside in Harrogate.
Dawson joined the administration at Lincoln Memorial University in July 2009 and serves as president at the main campus in Harrogate, Tenn. He is a Paul Harris Fellow with Rotary International and completed the CASE institute for Advancement at Dartmouth University. Dawson and his wife, Karen, have two children and three grandchildren.

ATHLETIC TRAINING The student-athlete at Lincoln Memorial University has the luxury of having one of the most dedicated health care teams in the Southeast at their disposal. Donald Grigsby, the Head Athletic Trainer, assistants Whitney Bailey and Celest Weuve along with a large contigent of student workers provide every Railsplitter student-athlete the best available care for his or her injuries. Grigsby and his staff are assisted by a wide array of community-based physicians and other health care providers from LMU’s DeBusk College of Osteopathic Medicine and the Knoxville Orthopedic Clinic in providing quick and effective medical care should the need arise. Housed in the Tex Turner Arena lower level between the basketball team locker rooms, the main athletic training room is a modern facility complete with the latest equipment. Satellite athletic training stations are located at Mary Mars Gym, the LMU soccer field, Lamar Hennon Baseball Field and the Dr. Charles Poteat Tennis Complex.

to 14 championship sports by adding women ‘s soccer (1990), men’s and women’s cross country (1993) and women’s golf (1999). The South Atlantic Conference was composed of the same eight member institutions from 1975 until 1988, when Wingate University replaced Newberry College as the eighth member institution. Newberry later rejoined the conference in 1996. In July of 1998, Tusculum College was admitted as a member of the league, and Lincoln Memorial University began play in the conference in the 2006-07 academic year. Brevard College was admitted as a provisional member in 2007 and a full member in 2008. In 2008, Echols retired after serving as Commissioner for 19 years and Patrick Britz was hired as the new Commissioner. In July 2010, Anderson (S.C.) University became the league’s 10th member. Today the conference is a group of ten private, liberal and civic arts colleges and universities, similar in size and athletic philosophy. Since becoming eligible for NCAA Division II postseason play in 1993, the league has sent representatives from all of its sponsored sports to NCAA postseason play. The league membership now includes Anderson University in Anderson, S.C.; Brevard College in Brevard, N.C.; Carson-Newman in Jefferson City, Tenn.; Catawba College in Salisbury, N.C.; Lenoir-Rhyne University in

The South Atlantic Conference is in its 37th year of athletic tradition and excellence. The distant forerunner of the South Atlantic Conference was the North State Atlantic Conference (NSIAC). The NSIAC was formed when the “Little Six”, as it was called, broke from the North Carolina Intercollegiate Athletic Conference in 1930. These charter members included Lenoir-Rhyne College, Atlantic Christian, Catawba College, Guilford College, Elon College, and High Point University. The North State continued to grow over the next 30 years, adding Western Carolina (1933), East Carolina (1947) and Pfeiffer (1960). A name change became necessary when the league accepted Newberry as its first South Carolina member in 1961. The league took on the name Carolinas Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (CIAC) on May 20th of that year. The CIAC saw several changes in the following years as East Carolina withdrew from the league in 1962. Appalachian State and Western Carolina followed in 1971 and 1976. All three landed in the Southern Conference. The South Atlantic Conference was founded in 1975 solely as a football conference. The league received its name from a contest in which Kurt Brenneman of Greensboro, NC became the first to submit the SAC-8 moniker. The SAC-8 consisted of Carson-Newman College, Catawba College, Elon College, Gardner-Webb University, Lenoir-Rhyne College, Mars Hill College, Newberry College, and Presbyterian College. Dr. Fred Bentley, of Mars Hill College, was named league president for its inaugural year, by a vote of the member institutions. After the first season of play in the SAC-8, the Bears of Lenoir-Rhyne College captured the first football title. In 1989, the league’s 15th year of operation, the South Atlantic Conference became a comprehensive, multisport conference. Doug Echols was named the league’s first Commissioner. That year the South Atlantic Conference sponsored 10 sports - football, men’s and women’s basketball, baseball, softball, men’s soccer, volleyball, men’s golf, men’s and women’s tennis. Later the conference grew

ROGER HODGE HEAD COACH
First season
Roger Hodge became the 15th coach of the LMU women’s basketball program in April, 2011. He immediately faced the challenge of building a team from the ground up as only three players returned from the previous year’s team. After many long hours recruiting and installing his system, the team compiled a respectable 14-13 overall record and a 9-9 record in South Atlantic Conference play in 2011-12. Hodge arrived in Harrogate after a two year stint as an assistant coach at East Carolina University. Prior to that he served as the head coach at Atlantic Armstrong State University in Savannah, Georgia, for eight seasons. He is the winningest coach in AASU program history with a 138-97 (.587) record, and he led the Lady Pirates to their first-ever Peach Belt Conference tournament championship, first-ever WBCA Division II national ranking, back-to-back NCAA Division II Tournament berths and consecutive 20-win seasons.

1997-2000 2000-08 2008-10 2011-pr.
In 2007-08, Hodge led the Lady Pirates to a third 20-win campaign and a second appearance in the Peach Belt Conference Tournament Championship game as the No. 7 seed, finishing the year at 20-11. AASU also defeated at least one nationally ranked opponent in each season while he was at the helm of the program.
The 2003 season saw Hodge earn numerous honors, including Russell/WBCA South Atlantic Region Coachof-the-Year, Atlanta Tip-off Club Naismith Division II Coach-of-the-Year, Peach Belt Conference Coach-ofthe-Year and Division II Bulletin Peach Belt Conference Coach-of-the-Year. Hodge entered the collegiate coaching ranks in 1997 with Liberty University. He assisted Lady Flames Head Coach Rick Reeves with two Big South championship squads in 1997-98 and 1998-99, and helped Head Coach Carey Green in 1999-2000 when Liberty went 23-8 capturing the Big South Conference Tournament for the fourth straight year. Hodge has also served as an assistant coach at Summers County High School in Hinton, WV (1997), Mercer Christian Academy in Princeton, WV (1996) and Hinton High School in Hinton (1987-1994). Hodge and his wife Kristen have two daughters, Madison and Emmaline.

MATT ACTON ASSISTANT COACH
Acton came to LMU in 2010 after two seasons at Winston-Salem State University in WinstonSalem, North Carolina. A native of Owensboro, Kentucky, Acton has a long line of experience when it comes to the game of women’s basketball. Following graduation from Western Kentucky University in 1995, he served as women’s assistant coach at Brescia College in his hometown of Owensboro, Kentucky, from 1995 to 1998. During that time, Brescia tallied a 78-19 record while making two NAIA National Tournament appearances. During the 1998-99 season, Acton moved to NCAA Division II Francis Marion University as assistant where he helped guide the team to a 27-3 record that included a Peach Belt Conference regular season title and an appearance in the 1999 NCAA Division II “Sweet Sixteen.”
COACHING EXPERIENCE
From 1999 to 2001 he served as assistant coach at Lander University in Greenwood, South Carolina. During his stay at Lander, the team posted a 28-28 record while earning an NCAA National Tournament appearance in 2000.

Possibly Acton’s biggest contribution came during his tenure with South Atlantic Conference rival Carson-Newman College in Jefferson City, Tennessee. From 2001 to 2008, Acton helped the Lady Eagles to a 116-89 record while earning a trip to the NCAA Division II “Sweet Sixteen,” capturing one SAC Tournament Championship and finishing as tournament runner-up once and regular season runner up once. “We are very fortunate to have a person of Coach Acton’s skill and ability on our staff,” said Hodge. “His contributions to Lincoln Memorial women’s basketball are immeasurable and I am thankful to have his help. Coach Acton has immense experience in this profession and deserves great credit for his efforts in putting this team together.”
TASHA WASHINGTON ASSISTANT COACH
Washington joined the staff in 2011. She re-joined her collegiate coach, this time on the sidelines, after a four-year stint at Scottsdale Community College. She was a two-year starter for Hodge at Armstrong Atlantic where she helped lead the Pirates to a Peach Belt Conference title in 2003. She was named to All-PBC teams in 2003 and 2004 and was All-South Atlantic Region, Division II Bulletin Fourth-Team All-America and Daktronics All-America Honorable Mention in 2004. She is listed in the AASU career top-ten in eight different categories, and holds the school’s single-season steals record. Her jersey was retired in 2005. After college, the Texas native spent several years playing overseas in Greece PLAYING EXPERIENCE Armstrong Atlantic State 2002-04 and the Netherlands. Scottsdale C.C. 2000-02
“Tasha Washington has every bit as much talent as a coach as she did when I coached her as a player,” said Hodge. “Considering she was an All-American during her career, that is a big statement. She is articulate, knowledgeable and an extremely hard worker. I appreciate Coach Washington’s loyalty to me as a player and now as a coach. Together with Coach Matt Acton, I feel that I have a coaching staff as good as any in the country and I am very excited about what we can achieve as a staff.”

LMU ATHLETE’S HALL OF FAME
The LMU Athlete’s Hall of Fame was founded in 1981 and the first class of 46 was inducted during homecoming activities that year. The purpose of the Hall of Fame is to identify and honor those athletes that developed outstanding skills and represented LMU in a wholesome manner. The original location of the Hall of Fame display was in the Mars Gym but with the opening of the Turner Arena in 1991, the Hall moved to it’s current location in the Southeast corner of the Arena on the ground floor.

TIMELINE Ca. 1910 -- First LMU women’s basketball team formed. The actual year is unknown but the first mention of a women’s team in available records is in 1910.
1913 -- LMU publishes their first yearbook. Included in it is a photo of the women’s athletic teams, including basketball.
1924 -- The women’s basketball team plays the first game in LMU’s first gym, known as
“The Barn.” (Up to this point, LMU’s home games had been played in the building housing the auditorium. That building was replaced by Duke Hall and so LMU needed a separate gymnasium. The building’s official name, if it had one, is not known.)
1925-26 -- The first known LMU women’s coach, Mrs. Hobart Smith, died mid-way through the season. Remaining games coached by a Miss Atkinson.
1913 Team
Nov. 1930 -- LMU registrar Hugh Trent Ramsey assumes coaching mantle. His first game is a loss to Milligan. Their next loss would not come until 1934.
1931 -- Team steamrolls their competition, winning by an average of 18 points a game, a feat all the
more amazing when you consider that until 1932 all baskets in the women’s game counted only one point. Their closest contest is a 25-23 win at Middle Tennessee State Teacher’s College. The team is named the top women’s team in the Southeast by several media outlets. they are also named the Tennessee State Women’s Basketball Champions and would remain so until the lack of teams make the title stop being awarded (see below)
1931 -- Bowing to pressure from the Women’s Division of the National Amateur Athletic Federation, many
schools (including Tennessee and Carson-Newman) drop intercollegiate women’s basketball over fears of it being “too rough” and “becoming like the men’s game”. Over the next few years, more and more schools either disband their programs or change them over to intramural club teams.
Feb. 2, 1934 -- LMU loses their first game since the 1930 season, a 38-33 loss to Milligan (who were also the last team that beat LMU) in Harrogate.
1936-37 -- Coach Ramsey takes a sabbatical from coaching after the first three games in order to complete his Master’s degree. Team is coached the rest of the season by LMU men’s basketball and track coach J.D. Alexander. (Alexander is also one of the top officials on the U.S. Olympic Track and Field Committee during the 1930s, so he had a very busy schedule.)
Dec. 7, 1936 -- In a unique contest, both LMU teams played Olsen’s All-American Red Heads, which was a travelling squad of professional women’s basketball players who toured the country playing men’s teams, often playing seven days a week. (They were the first women’s basketball team inducted into the Naismith Baskwetball Hall of Fame.) In this game, the LMU women played the first half using the women’s 5-on-5 halfcourt rules and led at the half 35-31. The second half saw the men play the Red Heads using the men’s rules. The Red Heads beat the men by four points.
1937 -- Coach Ramsey returns to the sideline and would lead the LMU women for until the team was
Shirley Albright, 1920s
disbanded due in 1942 to World War II.
Feb. 12, 1938 -- LMU played a Clinton (Tennessee) Ravens Independent team made up of former LMU players. The teams battled to a 48-48 halftime score. Due to the length of time the first half took to play, the weather conditions and because the men had a conference game with Maryville coming up after this game it was decided to call the game as is, making LMU one of the few schools in the nation with a tie on their record.
1939-40 -- LMU goes 10-0. It is their last undefeated season to date. Feb. 21, 1942 -- LMU defeated Knoxville Business College 32-23 in what would be Coach Ramsey’s final game.
1942-43 -- Season canceled due to World War II. 1943-44 and 1944-45 -- LMU made an effort to have women’s basketball teams, but due to war rationing and other issues they only played five games each year, with LMU compiling an 8-2 record over both seasons. Former LMU men’s player and current P.E. teacher C.W. Bradley ran the team during this period.
1945 -- With the end of the war and attempt was made to field a team, but Coach Ramsey
declined to return as coach. By this time LMU was the only college in the area attempting to offer intercollegiate women’s basketball, so the decision was made to reduce it to club status, though the school would offer letters to women who competed in what was known as the Women’s Athletic Association until the 1960s.

LMU vs. Hiwassee, 1941
www.Railsplitters.com
TIMELINE 1972 -- Following the passage of Title IX in 1972, LMU restores women’s basketball as an intercollegiate sport. P.E. professor Dr. Phyllis Noah assumes the coaching duties.
Dec. 1972 -- In their first intercollegiate game in 27 years, LMU picked up the 65-48 win over Knoxville
College. This is also the first women’s game played in the Mary Mars Gym and the first women’s game at LMU played under the “modern” 5-on-5 full-court rules.
Feb. 22, 1974 -- Playing in the Tennessee College Women’s Sports Federation Eastern Division
Tournament, LMU plays three games in one day. They defeat Milligan, lose to East Tennessee State and beat Maryville. The loss to ETSU knocks them to the loser’s bracket, where they would get knocked out by Carson Newman two days later. (Future UNC coach Sylvia Rhyne scored 11 points for C-N in that game.) The tournament was won by Coach Margaret Hutson’s Tennessee Lady Vols, who defeated ETSU in the championship game.
1976 -- Coach Noah steps aside and is replace by Elaine Minton. Minton, a 1976 LMU graduate, becomes the first (and to date, only) former player to coach the women’s basketball team.
Spring, 1978 -- Women’s basketball offers scholarships for the first time. The first two signees (who both
signed the same day) are Sunbright High School’s Juanita Hall and Corbin High School’s Lesia Chadwell. The women will also be competing in a conference for the first time in the 1978-79 season, so Coach Minton (who will eventually become the Athletic Director) is replaced by Dennis Mann.
Juanita Hall
Dec. 7, 1978 -- LMU plays Roane State for the second time that season, losing 77-61. This game is
notable because of it features two future SEC coaches, Roane State coach Andy Landers (Georgia) and Bernadette Locke (Kentucky).
Summer, 1979 -- Coach Mann leaves LMU and is replaced by men’s assistant coach Dave Miller. Miller will also continue his duties with the men’s squad.
Feb. 19, 1981 -- Juanita Hall becomes the first women’s player at LMU to reach the 1,000 point mark in a 60-58 VSAC Tournament loss at Tennessee Wesleyan.
Summer, 1982 -- Dave Miller steps aside to focus on the men’s team after the 1981-82 season. LMU
Athletic Director Elaine Minton wastes no time in replacing Miller with Powell Valley High School’s Roger Vannoy, who had compiled a 133-58 record and won several district titles there from 1975-82.
Nov. 18, 1982 -- Coach Vannoy gets his first win at LMU, a 76-73 win over Union College. Feb. 16, 1984 -- LMU reaches the 20-wins in a season mark for the first time with the 89-65 win over
Lee in the VSAC Tournament. They would have seven straight 20-win seasons, a streak broken when LMU joined the NCAA in 1991. This season also saw LMU enter the NAIA top 25 for the first time. They would remain there until 1990.
1985 -- Terry Whitehead become’s LMU’s first All-American. Dec. 1, 1986 - Feb. 24 1987 -- LMU has the longest win streak in school history, winning 26 consecutive
games. They also won their first-ever conference title as they went 10-0 in the Tennessee Valley Athletic Conference and won the conference tournament during this time. The streak was broken in the NAIA District 24 championship when LMU lost to Union University.
LMU vs. C-N Jan. 25, 1986
Nov. 24, 1987 -- Carrie Shoffner scores the first three-pointer in LMU history in the second half of a 103-57 win over Bryan. Mar. 1, 1988 -- LMU caps off an 8-2 record in the TVAC regular season by winning the conference tournament with a 74-49 win over Tennessee Wesleyan. It is their second straight conference title.
1988 -- Sherry Chapman becomes LMU’s second All-American Feb. 28, 1989 -- The Lady Railsplitters make it three in a row as they win the TVAC regular season and tournament for the third consecutive season with the 85-46 win at Carson-Newman.
1989-90 -- LMU begins the transition from the NAIA to the NCAA Division II. In the 1989-90 season they play mostly NCAA II schools but are allowed to compete in the TVAC tournament, which they win for the fourth straight year.
Mar. 2, 1989 -- Robin Adams becomes LMU’s all-time third All-American and ends her career as LMU’s all-time leading scorer with 1,678 points,
having surpassed Carrie Shoffner earlier in the season. Shoffner ends her career as LMU’s all-time leader in steals with 252, a record which still stands.
Mar. 2, 1990 -- Monica Owens ends her career as LMU’s all-time leader in assists with 577, a record that still stands. Jan. 28, 1991 -- Playing in their final regularly-scheduled game in the Mary Mars Gym, LMU defeats East Tennessee State 86-78. 2012-13 LMU Women’s Basketball

* From 1978-86 the Volunteer State Athletic Conference was split into East and West Divisions. The top two teams in each division went to the tournament from 1978-80 with the overall winner representing the District in the NAIA National Tournament. From 1981-86 each division had their own tournament. The outcome of that tournament would determine the seedings for the District 24 Tournament, which was made up of the top four teams from both divisions. In 1986 the VSAC was split, with the East Division becoming the TVAC and the west the TCAC. The tournament format was set up so that the first two rounds were effectively the TVAC/TCAC tournament and the winner from each conference would meet in the championship to determine the district champion. Even though LMU was not a member of the TVAC after 1989, this format allowed them to still compete in the post-season while the school made the transition to the NCAA Division II.

TEX TURNER ARENA The B. Frank “Tex” Turner Arena has been the home of the Railsplitters and Lady Railsplitters since 1991. Since then, it has become known as one of the top basketball facilities at the Division II level. The arena replaced the Mary E. Mars Gymnasium, which had been the home of LMU basketball since 1948. The 87,000 square foot complex seats 5,009 for basketball contests with another 1,000 portable seats available for other events. The distance from the playing floor to the roof is 40 feet, the equivalent of a two-story building. The arena is 230 feet (east to west) and 282 feet (north to south). It contains over 81,866 square feet of floor space, and over 4 million cubic feet of space. The arena also serves as a practice facility for the golf, soccer, baseball and softball teams. The auxiliary gym contains batting cages and there is an indoor practice tee used by the golf teams. Over the years, several concerts as well as district and regional tournaments have been held in the arena. The LMU spring and fall commencement services and pinning ceremonies have been held there since 1991. LMU’s athletic offices are located on the lower level, with the exception of cross country, softball and volleyball. Also located on the lower level are the athletic training offices, the university press and the university post office. The LMU Athletes Hall of Fame Room, the Turner Room and a classroom are also located on the lower level and are often used by campus and community groups for meetings and other functions. The recently refurbished athletic training room and the weight room are located on the lower level within easy access of the playing floor and air-conditioned dressing rooms. The upper level contains a ticket office and other offices as well as the Dean Bailey Trophy Room, which houses trophies and other memorabilia dating back to the 1920’s and is a memorial to former coach Dean Bailey. The upper concourse also is open to the public as a walking track and is extremely popular with the local community. Entrances to the building are located on the north, south, and east ends. There are a total of 24 entrance doors to the arena (handicap access is available on both levels). The arena was named after former LMU football standout B. Frank “Tex” Turner, who donated the funds for it’s construction. Work on the multi-million dollar facility began on May 7, 1988, and on February 2, 1991, the Railsplitters and Lady Railsplitters held their first contests in the facility when they hosted the University of Alabama-Huntsville in a doubleheader. The women won 112-95 and the men lost 85-69.
LADY RAILSPLITTER HOME COURTS Prior to 1924, LMU did not have a gym. Most home games were played in Middlesboro or at Powell Valley High School.

GLADYS T. BRADLEY WOMEN’S BASKETBALL SUITE
Completed in 1991, the LMU Lady Railsplitter locker room is one of the finest facilities of its type at the NCAA Division II level. Officially known as the Gladys T. Bradley Women’s Basketball Suite (named for the wife of former Lady Railsplitter coach C.W. Bradley), the suite encompasses the main dressing area, office space for the assistant coaches, storage areas and a foyer that can be utilized both for meetings and as a place to study. The dressing area contains individual cubicles for 15 players, a big-screen television, restrooms, showers and direct access to the LMU Athletic Training facilities located next door. A clock connected to the scoreboard is on the wall allowing the players and staff to see the time remaining until the start of the half or game. The foyer is highlighted by a large bulletin board and several other displays with that highlight award-winners, individual and team records; and banners for all LMU teams appearing in the NCAA Tournament Recent renovations to the area include new carpeting and new furniture for the foyer and offices. Another renovation is currently underway that will include remodeling the entire suite to include wood paneling and a larger locker space for each player. 2012-13 LMU Women’s Basketball

COMMUNITY SERVICE
Winning and hard work are important to the Lincoln Memorial University women’s basketball team. But becoming successful and positive role models on and off the court is just as significant to the team. The Lady Railsplitters give back to Harrogate and the Tri-State community every chance they get.
ROHO SHOPPING DAY
SERVICE TO THE COMMUNITY
WBCA PINK ZONE
One of the events the student-athletes look forward to each year is the ROHO Shopping Day in early December at the Middlesboro Wal-Mart. The ROHO Club holds a fishing tournament each spring to pay for the event, in which local underprivileged kids are given money to buy Christmas presents for themselves and their families as well as a hot lunch and a visit with Santa. Only a small percentage of the money can be used for toys with the rest going to clothing and other necessary items. The LMU players take a child around and assist them with their purchases and keep an eye on the budget. For many of the kids helped this is the only Christmas gift(s) they receive.
- Assist and participate in the Harrogate Relay for Life - Manage a carnival at the local elementary school - Youth team presentations - Reading to elementary school - Aid other teams with their fundraisers for cancer and other causes - Visit local hospitals and nursing homes
The Women’s Basketball Coaches Association began the WBCA Pink Zone in 2007 as an initiative to raise breast cancer awareness in women’s basketball, on campuses and in communities. The late Kay Yow, former North Carolina State University head women’s basketball coach, served as the catalyst for the initiative after her third reoccurrence of breast cancer in 2006. The LMU women’s basketball team has taken part in the WBCA Pink Zone initiative from the start.
