1. Can you describe the PRP process?
The PRP (Platelet Rich Plasma) treatment process starts with a simple blood draw. We then use a centrifuge to produce PRP, which contains a mixture of concentrated platelets, including cytokines and growth factors, and anti-inflammatory properties. It is primarily these growth factors that are beneficial for the use of PRP in treating hair loss, thinning, and alopecia. The final product of PRP is finally injected using either a microneedle device or small individual injection technique, or a combination, to the scalp.
2. What are the benefits of PRP?
While research is still ongoing in regard to the effects of PRP on hair loss, thinning, and alopecia for both men and women, we have seen great results in practice. The growth factors in PRP obtained from our own blood helps in promoting thicker, healthier hair and preventing hair loss. Mainly, PRP injections to the scalp directly increase blood flow to the area, boosting the quality of the hair follicles. We use PRP for several aesthetic purposes, yet hair PRP treatments have proven to be a very effective way to boost overall hair health, specifically targeting conditions such as alopecia.
3. How long do results last?
Results can vary depending on the specific condition being treated, age of the patient, and whether they are male or female. Results typically last between one and 24 months, depending on the protocol used.
4. Is there a follow up, or series of treatments, to get maximum results?
Specific treatment plans of hair PRP can be tailored to each patient. The general recommendation is three sessions of hair PRP, performed one month apart, with one annual maintenance or follow up session.
5. Who is the ideal client for PRP?
Anyone who is experiencing hair thinning, breakage, alopecia, or overall decreased quality of hair is a good candidate for hair PRP injections. Patients who are not recommended to undergo this treatment are those who have abnormal platelet counts or platelet disorders. We may not inject PRP if you have cancer, an active infection, or anemia.
6. Are there any downsides or factors for clients to consider before the treatment?
The most common downsides of hair PRP injections are pain at the injection sites. A topical anesthetic cream can be applied prior to the treatment to decrease discomfort. Another downside is minor bruising or tenderness to the scalp areas injected. Overall, it is a very safe treatment, as it originates from the patient’s own blood and decreases the chances of any allergic or adverse reaction.
7. What is the recommended home care after PRP treatments?
Post-treatment instructions are as follows: do not wash your hair or use direct shower pressure on the scalp for 24 hours. After 24 hours, you may gently wash your hair with a sulfate-free shampoo. Do not wear hats, headbands, or ponytails for three days. Do not expose yourself to long periods of sun. Do not dye your hair or use harsh chemical processes for one week.

Less More is
Skincare gets simplified
By Lindsay Nahmiache
The age of overly complex skincare routines is over. New market data indicates the consumer is shifting from complex multi-product skincare routines to a “less is more” mindset. Following this trend, we are starting to see companies innovate in the sector by introducing their own systems for optimizing skincare rituals.
For example, Veriphy Skincare uses PhytoSpherix technology, a vegan glycogen power ingredient, that provides deep hydration, so you don’t need a ton of different products to get results. Its benefits include energizing skin cells, promoting collagen and hyaluronic acid production, reducing wrinkles and fine lines, improving skin hydration, and reducing pigment spots.
The solution is a five-product system for clean and healthy skin in a simpler, easier to follow routine. Five separate products play off of each other to maximize the overall effect, making the routine both easy and enjoyable to follow: cleanser, toner, exfoliating serum, moisturizer, and eye cream.
1.
Simplified Skincare Routine
A skincare system simplifies your daily routine. Gone are the days of juggling countless products, trying to remember the order of application, and spending excessive time in front of the mirror. With a systematic approach, you know exactly what to use and when to use it. This not only saves time but also ensures that each step complements the others, providing a more comprehensive skincare regimen.
Avoid counteractive active ingredients
2.
3.
It is important to ensure each product builds upon the previous one, optimizing the efficacy of active ingredients. Streamlining the amount of products also eliminates the risk of irritation and over-sensitivity from more product-intensive regimens. In the end, users get more out of the product while minimizing backfire.
Higher Average Order Value (AOV) for Retailers
When consumers purchase a 5-step skincare system, the average order value (AOV) naturally increases. Instead of buying individual products sporadically, customers are more likely to invest in a system as a whole in order to get everything they need from a single purchase. This bundled approach not only boosts sales, but also fosters brand loyalty, as customers who see positive results are more likely to stick with the system and repurchase it.
Everybody Wins
A pared down skincare routine is the perfect case study for how a cultural shift towards a “less is more” mentality has far-reaching positive effects. For customers, it means a routine that is easier to follow, cheaper than most alternatives, and consists of natural cruelty-free ingredients. For the industry, it means retaining customers through trust while investing in fewer products to receive equal or greater returns. Lastly, for society and the planet, it means less waste and harmful chemicals in the environment.
Lindsay Nahmiache is the CEO and Owner Veriphy Skincare. She decided to invest in the company with the mission to help more people remember how powerful they are. She is a skin lover and a huge fan of less is more - for everything!
4.
Trust and Consistency
Having products organized in a solid skincare system allows for consistent results, which in turn creates customer loyalty. If the customer knows they're getting an easy-to-follow routine that delivers on its promises, the likelihood of repurchase skyrockets. In the end, systems are fertile ground for customer trust.
Rejuvenation Through Nano-Infusion
The ideal treatment for skin of color
By Kamani Ramlakan
Growing up in the continent of Africa, I remember the misconceptions surrounding sunscreen for melanin-rich skin. "We don't need it," they said, "Our melanin protects us." However, personal experience and a deeper understanding of skincare revealed the truth. Products and treatments tailored for darker skin were scarce, leading to a gap in skincare options and solutions.
Six years ago, I stumbled upon the revolutionary technique of nano-infusion. I found that for my clients of color, recovery from micro-needling was more extended, which led me to seek better alternatives. Upon discovering nano-infusion, I realized its potential and haven't looked back.
Challenges for Skin of Color
Skin color is influenced by a combination of different pigments, primarily hemoglobin, carotenoids, and melanin. Melanin is crucial as it determines the depth and shade of skin color. Research indicates that the types of melanin—eumelanin (brown-black) and pheomelanin (yellow-red)- or a mix with genetics and environmental factors, impact skin tone.
Risks for Skin of Color:
Hyperpigmentation due to melanocyte stimulation, triggered by:
· UV radiation from sunlight
· Hormonal changes (e.g., pregnancy or birth control)
· Inflammation or skin trauma
· Heat exposure
Traditional skin needling creates controlled trauma, posing risks like PostInflammatory Hyperpigmentation (PIH) due to inflammation, resulting in excess melanin production and darkening of the affected areas.
Why Nano-Needling is Ideal for skin of color?
Nano-infusion is a cuttingedge skin rejuvenation technique focusing on treating various skin issues without significant injury to the epidermis. It is non-invasive, offers a less painful experience with minimal downtime, and is crucial for darker skin recovery.
Traditional needling can cause erythema, which is challenging to recognize in darker skin tones.
Nano Channels are created and act as pathways for serums to penetrate deeper
“I found that for my clients of color, recovery from micro-needling was more extended, which led me to seek better alternatives.”
Rejuvenation Through Nano-Infusion
into the skin, allowing the active ingredients to work more effectively.
How It Works
Silicone/Steel Nanotip: Crafted with high-grade silicone and surgical steel that is nonallergic, it features a nanothin structure with tips, like the Apex of a pyramid, that creates the nano-channels in the skin and mild exfoliation. It enhances the delivery and efficacy of advanced skincare formulations.
Minimal Trauma
· Non-invasive - less risk of PIH
· Synergy with other therapies: inte grates perfectly with Microcurrent, Cold Therapy, LED lights, and light chemical peels.
Benefits for Skin of Color
· Exfoliation and penetration: nanoexfoliation and deep penetration of skincare products
· Refines enlarged pores and reduces acne
· Combating hyperpigmentation: combined with high-quality natural components like advanced peptides and vitamins to boost hydration, it improves elasticity, provides antioxidant
defense, and controls pigmentation.
Serum
Infused
Using a high-quality serum is vital as it can provide superior hydration and nourishment. It's best to choose a natural, multi-functional serum with ingredients that support and complement each other. Look for key components that are beneficial for skin of color.
Key Ingredients in Serums
· Collagen Peptides are small proteins that signal collagen production in the skin. Collagen is a critical protein that provides structure and elasticity and is essential to improve skin tone and firming.
· Vitamin C helps in the production of collagen and offers antioxidant protection. Vitamin C also brightens the skin and evens skin tone by reducing pigmentation.
· Tyrosinase inhibitors help reduce hyperpigmentation, dark spots, and even skin tone.
· Soothing ingredients like aloe vera help irritated skin. They reduce redness and provide comfort to the skin.
· Hyaluronic acid is a powerful hydrating ingredient that helps retain moisture and plump skin.
Post-Procedure Care
Proper post-treatment care is critical and ensures enduring results and client satisfaction by using a serum with the essential ingredients mentioned above.
Our world is a tapestry of different skin tones. This diversity reflects beauty and individuality. Understanding and acknowledging these differences is essential, especially in the beauty and skincare industry. Products and treatments need to be inclusive and effective for all skin tones.

An Esty’s First Year Journey July
This month, we discuss with Sofia the importance of mentorship and its role in the esthetics industry.
1. Who would you say is your role model?
As cliché as it sounds, my role model truly is my mother. She has worked so hard to give my siblings and I a good life, even when she had to put her education and her career on hold to raise us. About two to three years ago, she finally finished getting her associate’s degree while still working and providing for my little sister and I. She also got her esthetics license during my freshman year of high school while trying to juggle taking me to and from school. She always teaches me that it’s never too late in life to try and accomplish your goals.
2. Is there anyone providing you with mentorship, professionally?
I have met a few fellow professionals who have been kind enough to share their wisdom with me. I am willing to listen to anyone who has been in the business for a while already and learn from them. Knowledge is power!
3. What have they taught you so far?
That it is crucial to understand what your client wants
to achieve, feasible ways to bring about the desired results, and how to manage client expectations.
4. What is the most important thing you have learned since you've gotten started in the esthetics industry?
The most important thing I have learned since joining the esthetics industry is building my communication skills. Making sure I can have in-depth conversations with my clients about their skincare goals and how we can attempt to attain those goals. I want all lines of communication to flow easily so we can establish a trustful bond.
5. Mentorship is a big key to success in this industry. Although you are still young, how do you plan to help those entering the field?
I hope that once I have more experience in the field I can offer guidance to those who are looking to enter the industry. I think the easiest way to meet people in this industry and in today’s age of technology would be to reach out through social media. Hopefully, once I can form some connections, I can establish some mentorship with future estheticians.
As cliché as it sounds, my role model truly is my mother. She has worked so hard to give my siblings and I a good life, even when she had to put her education and her career on hold to raise us.

Esthetician Spotlight
Kimberly Avalos Wax Junkie
What is your business called and where are you located?
My name is Kimberly Avalos and my business is called Wax Junkie. I am located in Chatsworth, California, in the heart of the San Fernando Valley in Los Angeles.
Can you give a little information about your background as an esthetician?
I have been a licensed esthetician for 11 years. After receiving my license, I worked at European Wax Center, where I practiced the art of Brazilian waxing. While working there, I perfected my technique in all things waxing and realized how much I enjoyed conversing with clients, educating them on intimate skincare, and helping them through what could be an awkward experience. I love seeing clients happy about their skin and their smiles after a fabulous wax session.
What inspired you to become an esthetician?
The most honest answer is, I’ve always had a passion for beauty, makeup, and hair! I truly wanted to help people feel and look their best while making them feel confident in their skin.
What beauty philosophy do you stand by?
I believe that each individual is beautiful and I take pride in embracing body positivity. When clients build up the courage to try something they “normally wouldn’t,” I prioritize their comfort. It is important for me to make my clients feel confident and empowered after their wax. I also believe in improving skin through education and staying updated on the latest products and techniques to provide the best experience from beginning to end.
What is your favorite treatment?
My favorite treatment I offer is the Brazilian Wax and Mini Vajacial. If you haven’t tried it, you don’t know what you’re missing out on. A vajacial is a
treatment for the vulva post-wax and can help address concerns like ingrown hairs, hyperpigmentation, dehydration, and more! Not enough estheticians provide the vajacial, and it’s what has put my business on the map! I like to think of myself as the vajacial queen of Los Angeles!
What brands do you use and why?
I genuinely love using Bushbalm in my studio. I discovered Bushbalm on Instagram five years ago and haven’t found another brand I love as much. What keeps me coming back is their approach to intimate skincare. They’re bold with their ingredients, marketing, education, and inclusivity to all bodies!
daily with an ingrown oil after every bath or shower. This routine helps treat current ingrown hairs, brighten hyperpigmentation, and keep the skin hydrated. If I were stuck on a deserted island, these are the two products I
“I believe in improving skin through education and staying updated on the latest products and techniques to provide the best experience from beginning to end.”
and calm the skin after waxing and extractions. I store them in a cold mini-fridge and lightly massage the globe over the waxed area using the Bushbalm backbar oil to help glide the globe easier and introduce ingredients like jojoba, tea tree oil, and grapeseed oil. My clients love the cold globe!
Not to` mention the products are top-tier and affordable for both pros and clients.
What is your secret to beautiful skin?
Well... my secret to beautiful skin (down there) is to gently exfoliate with a sugar scrub 2-3 times a week to prevent ingrown hairs and to hydrate your skin
couldn't live without.
What are your favorite tools to use in the treatment room and why?
My go-to tool would have to be cold globes! They are a game-changer post-Brazilian wax and vajacial because they help to eliminate redness
What is your favorite part about working for your company?
I consider myself lucky to wake up daily and do what I love—being a solo esthetician! Yes, I have worked very hard, but sometimes I still need someone to pinch me! My favorite part about working for myself is that I can still be a mom to my beautiful five-year-old. I enjoy the freedom of creating my own schedule and working at my pace. I can’t forget to mention all the people I get to meet and interact with in and outside of my studio. Lastly, I love creating content and spreading wax awareness all over my social platforms.

Hot Spa Concept: Head Spas
You’ve probably noticed head spas popping up all across the country. These serene spaces are notable for their focus on total pamperingeverywhere above the neck!
Our Marketing Director, Anastasia, visited Toma Head Spa in Coral Gables to see what the buzz is all about. She had the Rejuvenating Deep Cleanse, which included a scalp analysis, tools to stimulate blood flow, a scalp oiling massage using a blend of oils made in-house, and a scalp repair mask with steam to open up the follicles and draw out all the buildup. Next, two different shampoos were used: the first was exfoliating to cleanse everything the mask drew out, and the second was selected based on scalp type. This was followed by a conditioner and hydrotherapy with deep relaxation effects. The treatment finished with drying the hair and a post-treatment scalp analysis.
The Inside Scoop
Maria at Toma Head Spa was kind enough to give us the lowdown on this hot new concept.
Why do you think head spas are such a popular option in the spa space? We’re just now realizing that the scalp has been overlooked for a long time, and deserves some love and care, just like the rest of the body. Head spas offer a blend of relaxation and therapeutic benefits that go beyond traditional spa treatments. People who love self-care are drawn towards new treatments to enhance their well-being and the health of their scalp.
What type of client are head spas attracting?
Absolutely everyone who has a scalp! Whether you’re very stressed out and need a physical and mental reset, or you are dealing with conditions like psoriasis, hair loss, or an oily scalp, our head spa is designed for you. Our approach is to serve everyone with tailored treatments based on a scalp analysis performed before the service.
What benefits of the treatment can a client expect afterwards? The cleanest scalp you ever had. Your hair will feel super silky, especially towards the roots, with no buildup or dandruff, and your scalp will be very hydrated. Those with conditions like eczema or psoriasis will experience significant relief from patchiness, dandruff, and flaking.
