YMCA OF LINCOLN HOSTING 4TH ANNUAL WINTER COAT DRIVE FOR PEOPLE’S CITY MISSION
As winter approaches, the YMCA of Lincoln is stepping up once again to bring warmth and relief to those in need. Throughout October, all four Lincoln YMCA locations are participating in a winter coat drive to benefit the People’s City Mission. Over the past three years, this initiative has collected more than 8,500 coats thanks to the generosity of YMCA members and the Lincoln community.
Community members who donate at the YMCA will receive a free pass to “Try the Y” for one week, valid through the end of the year. Current YMCA members donating coats will have a chance to win a free Y Membership for 2025.
“Nebraska winters can be especially challenging for those experiencing homelessness, and once again, we are committed to providing support through our annual coat drive,” shared Renee Yost, president & CEO of the Lincoln YMCA. “This effort is a testament to the strength and compassion of our community, and we are proud to partner once more with People’s City Mission to make a meaningful difference.”
With over 250 guests currently residing at the mission, that number could climb to 400 as the colder months set in. The drive will run from October 1-21, culminating in a coat distribution at the People’s City Mission Help Center starting at 9:00am on Friday, November 8. Donations can be dropped off at any YMCA of Lincoln location. Thank you for your support of this initiative and helping strengthen our community!

Out of School Days is a licensed child care program offered at the Cooper, Copple Family, Fallbrook, and Northeast YMCA locations on some Lincoln Public Schools non-school days for youth in kindergarten through age 13.

Join us for Teen Night at the Northeast Y! This free event is for teens (ages 12-15) to spend time shooting hoops, swimming, playing games, and connecting with community resources. Teen Night is open to both Y Members and Community Members.

Plan to get your flu shot at the Y! Vaccinations will be administered through Hy-Vee Pharmacy, courtesy of Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Nebraska. Clinics are open to anyone age six and up, regardless of health insurance coverage.

HOLIDAY WELLNESS CHALLENGE

On October 1, we launched our 2024 YMCA Annual Fundraising Campaign with a kick-off event at the Lincoln Children’s Zoo. All proceeds from this campaign benefit the YMCA’s Open Doors Financial Assistance program!

The YMCA of Lincoln Turkey Trot presented by Union Bank & Trust returns for its 16th year as one of the highly favored traditions on Thanksgiving morning. The race will be held on the streets of downtown Lincoln!
