Welcoming Week at the YMCA
September 13-22
As the President & CEO of the YMCA of Lincoln, I have witnessed firsthand the transformative power of community. Our mission has always been to strengthen the foundation of our community, promoting healthy living, fostering social responsibility, and nurturing the potential of every individual who walks through our doors. Welcoming Week, celebrated each September at our Lincoln Y, epitomizes these values by embracing immigrants and refugees.
Welcoming Week is not just an event; it’s a movement that acknowledges the contributions of newcomers and the contributions they bring to our society. This annual celebration, organized in partnership with Welcoming America, encourages communities to embrace newcomers and ensure that everyone, regardless of where they come from, feels they belong. At the Y, we see this week as an opportunity to reflect on our shared values and the integral role newcomers play in our neighborhoods.
Newcomers bring divese perspectives and backgrounds, innovation, and culture to our communities. They open businesses, create jobs, and contribute significantly to the economy. As we celebrate Welcoming Week September 13-22, let us remember that our strength lies in our diversity. By embracing our neighbors of all backgrounds, we not only uphold the values of the Y but also build a more resilient, innovative, and compassionate community.
