Brand Featured Interview by DWIMAYU BUDINASTITI

So tell me how was Nikicio created NIKICIO was created in 2007. The brand itself came from a very grounded concept, based on my philosophy of how clothes should be treated. That they should be treated as an investment rather than just some trendy shit that will go pass in 3 months.

Nikicio Founder

Nina Nikicio

What went through your mind when you came up with the name, “Nikicio”? NIKICIO is my family name. So that’s that.

MIXTÉ Autumn Winter 2012/2013 : WAR, what is all about? The collection basically about how I want NIKICIO girls to be dressed like when they have to go to war. You can translate the war in any kind, may it be your personal war or actual war like in Saving Private Ryan. But if you had to wear clothes to go die with, then this is the collection that I want you to be seen with. No regret.

4. What is your song inspiration when you were designing “WAR”? War - The Cardigans

5. If WAR is a movie, what would it be and why? Inglorious Basterds just because I like to picture the girls skinning the Nazis alive.

6. How would you define Nikicio in three words? Neat, Unpredictable, Unpretentious

Neat, Unpredictable, Unpretentious - Nikicio -

If Nikicio is a band/singer, who would it be and why? Cat Power. Boyish, understated sexiness, with a character.

Where’s the best place to wear WAR? Anywhere you want it to be really.

Who’s designing WAR’s fabric? Are you collaborate with anyone? What does it mean? My long time friend and photographer for NIKICIO, Evelyn Pritt, took this amazing series of ocean waves photos from Bali and I basically asked her whether I could use one of the photos for the collection. When the rolls of fabrics came, we were so

excited and ideas started flowing. I think the ocean waves are the best prints we have done so far.

Any styling tips for wearing WAR to a cocktail party? Wear your hair long and your black heels.

What’s color that never Nikicio being seen? I would never said never, because I used to say that I won’t designed anything in silver and then the silver motorcycle vest came along in the collection and took everyone’s attention.

Who (disney princess) do you see wearing WAR?

I have always liked Princess Jasmine because she ran away with a thief.

Tell us a secret about Nikicio We are pretty crazy and I myself is very blunt. But then maybe that’s not much of a secret anymore.

What’s your favorite local brand? Biyan. He understands market very well.

What is your take on the local fashion scene? It’s growing rapidly and everyone seems to own a brand now. I don’t know whether this is a good thing or the opposite, as I find it very confusing but also it has been very exciting to see new brands popping out everywhere, and to see which ones will survive. Monstore

Brand Featured 2 Interview by DWIMAYU BUDINASTITI

So tell me how was Monstore created Monstore was created in 2009, when 3 colleague were sharing about their interest in art, and think about how to use art in the daily life. The plan is to make a fashion label based on art itself, an art clothing line.

What went through your mind when you came up with the name, “Monstore”? Monstore is our own creature, it represent human as the object. And it tells story about human, about the behavior, the life, and the feelings.

Monstore Haven, what is that all about? Haven means a safe place. So our ideas is about the feeling itself. The feeling when you feel safe, that you don’t even care about your surrounding. When you can only enjoy the moment of your existence.

What is your song inpiration when you were designing “Haven”?? The song inspiration is more likely to a ‘calm as heaven’ tunes, like The XX’ songs or Sigur Ros’.

Who (fiction figure) do you see wearing Monstore?? Johnny Bravo. He wore dark tees a lot.

Tell us about the Monstore’s symbol. What do you call it? Its a double cross sign, a symbol of Human.

We’re not for babies - Monstore -

If Monstore is a movie, what would it be and why? It would be any of Tim Burton’s movie I guess, because its represent about the dark side of human, with an artsy touch.

How would you define Monstore in one sentence? Art clothing line.

Monstore never be catched worn at? The kinder garden or pre - school. We’re not for babies

Monstore identical with words (bitch please, you me bed now, desperate socialclub, life less, etc.) what’s inspire you? Is that something to do with 9gag? Its just a random quote that we think represent about our present time. The

What’s special with tees? Are you gonna use another fabric in the future?? Our fabric is already a custom-made one. We’re customizing a soft and light fabric for people in tropical countries..

Who’s the illustrator who design your tees?

Is there any particular illustration concept? All the illustration concept is based on the big idea for the collection. And every illustration have their own story that represent in each tee’s.

What colors that never Monstore being seen..? Light or shocking Pink

We have our in-house graphic designer. But we also have an art community called ‘Scene Stealers’, basically every artist can submit their artwork, and we can produce it as one of our article in the collection. We also gonna feature their name in the tees and website, and they get will also get a reward too. If you’re interested, you can be one of our scene stealers by submitting your artwork to scene.stealers@heymonstore.com

What is your take on the local fashion scene? We have an originality and uniqueness that brings a fresh idea to the local fashion scene. We also support art scene by taking it to ‘more commercial’ fashion scene. So everyone can appreciate the art. Photos by Monstore
