When I walked into Skip’s original store on PCH in Dana Point, where Hobie Surf is now located, he was already a veteran in the home entertainment industry. September marks a momentous occasion for The Local DISH Magazine as we celebrate our 15th Anniversary with this issue. I can hardly believe that so many years have passed since I launched my publication. I recall that evening in the middle of July, 2007, when I returned from LA with a mock magazine in-hand and hit the streets to introduce myself and my new direct-mail publication to local business owners. My mission then, which continues to this day, is to help locally owned and operated businesses increase their awareness and drive revenue. Apparently it worked as The Local DISH Magazine continues to be the longest running, monthly magazine serving the homeowners and businesses in our coastal communities.
I take pride in working with wonderful business owners. Dennis’ tucked-away furniture showroom off the 5 in San Juan Capistrano needed help directing people to his amazing store. We were able to introduce his business to all our loyal readers. Clients rave about working with Dennis. His friendly disposition, honesty and quality furniture are unsurpassed. I was happy to feature Dennis on our cover several times, and I’m thankful for his business relationship, and more importantly, his friendship.
I’ve been fortunate to assemble an amazing team over the years. Starting out with my wife Kristin’s encouragement and editorial skills, along with a skeleton crew, we began our journey. Ali shared a recent story when a 92-year-old gentleman walked in with a box of coins. The customer asked Ali what he would give him for his junk silver. As Summer arrived in June, Ali Soltani proudly opened up his newest store in Capo Beach on Doheny Park Road. Taking his passion for collecting coins, which started when he was a six-year-old boy, Ali opened his first store in Tustin several years ago. The San Juan Capistrano Greek Festival, sponsored by Saint Basil Greek Orthodox Church, returns to San Juan Capistrano for its 9th annual celebration of Greek culture on Saturday and Sunday, September 24th and 25th. The event is chock-full of authentic Greek food and drink, live music, traditional Greek dancing, souvenir shopping at the Greek Bazaar, and a fully-loaded Kids Zone. There will be a raffle drawing for a grand prize vacation for two to Greece!
